I was in a mall full of religious people and eventually I had to convince them that, no, this nuclear apocalypse was not an act of God. But instead the true culprit was Miyamoto.

My proof? Every screen in here had the Wii interface and the spotlight that shined the performance was very pixelated, and was not at all sent from the Heavens.

Y’all see the new design for Donkey Kong? Couldn’t help but notice it’s much closer to Miyamoto’s original drawings of the character, while maintaining the best elements of Rare’s design. Also it’s very interesting that Miyamoto thought to bring that up, while not mentioning the more obvious redesigns of characters like Mario. That to me implies that the DK change is intended to be his go-to look from here on out. Honestly? I’m all for that! He looks a lot more like the big friendly ape he’s become.

New Info About The Original Donkey Kong I updated the text version of my new Mario Origins video essay to include a few footnotes explaining in more detail why my version of the story differs from most versions you've probably heard. Maybe the most contentious new info is the question of who decided Donkey Kong should include four different stages. Based on new sources, I believe it was the programmers. But even more shocking is that Mario jumping wasn't Miyamoto's idea.
