Just today I found out about an old 1960's cartoon that featured a prehistoric superhero who teamed up with Moby Dick, the literal public domain white whale being the plucky animal helper back in prehistoric times and I find myself wanting to see someone's long winded essay on that and what it means for the novel to incorporate that into continuity. Just, deranged alternate history the god in the shape of a whale that turned against man with the loss of his superhero buddy. I haven't actually read Moby Dick and media analysis is not a skill I managed to develop very well so it will never be.

It's called the Mighty Mightor and from the look of the guy I think they wanted to use Thor but likely ran into copyright issues (I don't know this, I'm guessing it based on 'He-Man is kid-friendly Conan' sort of trivia) so amusingly in the opening Moby Dick gets top billing as the one with the name recognition.

From the Hanna-Barbera vaults comes one of the odder animated pairings in Saturday Morning cartoon lore. Moby Dick is a friendly white whale to teens Tub and Tom, and together with their pet seal Scooby, they battle the dangerous villains of the undersea world like the Iguana Man and the Crab Creature. 

You can almost feel Herman Melville turning over in his grave - but maybe laughing a little too.

I was wrong - apropos of my mentioning the “God has abandoned us” Moby Dick movie (2010: Moby Dick). I forgot about the time that Moby Dick was underwater superhero.

Es una serie de televisión animada estadounidense de los sábados por la mañanaproducida por Hanna-Barbera Productions que se emitió en CBS desde el 9 de septiembre de 1967 hasta el 6 de enero de 1968, y se transmitió en reposiciones hasta el 6 de septiembre de 1969. A pesar de que el nombre de Moby viene primero, solo tuvo un episodio corto por media hora, intercalado entre dos con Mightor. La misma estructura se usó la temporada anterior para Frankenstein Jr. y The Impossibles.

I would always be stayin up on weekends to watch Boomeraction because it was like a buncha cool new superheroes i had never heard of. Space Ghost in particular was my SHIT. But there was also shit like Godzilla and the Moby Dick Show (i s2g Hanna Barbera) where you got to see shit like Godzookie and Mighty Mightor. And then shit like Thundarr, the Centurions, Super Friends, it was all some really neat stuff to watch as a kid!

#mind you it kinda sucks because i have so many childhood memories no one else will get #but still i treasure them

''LOS HERCULOIDES''

Fue una serie animada producida por Hanna-Barbera Productions. Al igual que la mayoría de dibujos animados sobre superhéroes producidos por Hanna-Barbera en esa época (Shazzan, Moby Dick y Mighty Mightor, Birdman y el Trío Galaxia), etc, los personajes de Los Herculoides fueron creados y diseñados por el dibujante Alex Toth, quien originalmente creó la historia del programa. El primer episodio fue mostrado a las 9:30 del sábado, 9 de septiembre de 1967, y fue transmitido por CBS los sábados por la mañana, en 18 segmentos de 30 minutos de duración, (dos capítulos por segmento), hasta el 6 de septiembre de 1969, fecha en la que el programa fue cancelado, después de 36 episodios, debido a que algunos grupos comenzaron a protestar en contra de la violencia que se mostraba en él, provocando así que la serie fuera reemplazada por la que en el futuro se convertiría en el próximo éxito mundial de Hanna-Barbera: Scooby-Doo. Fueron creados once nuevos episodios en el año 1981 como parte del programa Space-Stars.
