Welcome to Dimension 20: Dungeons and Drag Queens, a new 4-episode season that premieres June 28th on @dropoutdottv! Starring Monét X Change, Alaska Thunderfuck, Bob the Drag Queen, Jujubee, and Brennan Lee Mulligan. FAQ here: https://bit.ly/DandDQFAQ
I did not expect to like Dndrag queens as much as I do, I just expected it to be a nice little distraction before the next big season.
But it's so fascinating to see 4 new players approaching the game in different ways, and I want to categorize them
Alaska : she's understated but she's clearly engaging with the plot (the way she immediatly figured out the corrupted wraith clasp was great). She has a simple character and a simple backstory and she is a bit cautious with the roleplay but she is having fun (she reminds me of me during my first campaign)
Monet : She has a more complex and edgier backstory. She's in it for the power fantasy (who doesn't want to be a super powerful half-elven half-merfolk assassin with mommy issues?) but she still cares about the narrative and she takes things a bit more seriously
Jujubee : She's the embodiment of chaos, a future Axford. Brennan gave her the power to shape a world with her mind and imagination and she is having the time of her life. Also she cried during one of Alaska's scene showing that she cares about the other Pcs as much as she cares about Twyla (also a very Axford trait)
Bob : She's the most theatre kid of them all. She lives for the drama. She immediatly went for a very complicated and dark character (in the AP they revealed a part of Gertrude's backstory and it was genuinely fucked up and terrifying) She may struggle a bit with the rules but once she'll get the hang of it she'll be an amazing player
It’s such a small little thing but the queens reactions when Brennan laughed at the Michelle Visage joke made me so happy. He didn’t draw attention to himself or pat himself on the back. It’s like you could see the queens relax a little and feel like they could fully be themselves in a space they all weren’t really used to being in. They know they don’t have to appeal to Brennan, but it’s also fun to know they’re at a table where their work is known and respected and it’s such a small thing but it means so much
