Thanks to NaNoWriMo, I wrote 62,000 words this month. It would have been a lot more, but some real world stuff came and rained on the parade a little. The next two months will have a slimmer schedule to conserve energy and health. :)

In November, I realised how powerful my Ream account can be going forward (a mirror subscription of Patreon that cleans up very nicely, with its own in-built e-reader), and that has inspired me to create books or compilations of all of the previous Chapter Commentaries so no one needs to search anymore to find them all. They're (almost) all now in book or compilation form at both Patreon and Ream. I will eventually be doing this for Song Spotlights and more :D

I've activated Collections over at Patreon, so for folks looking to quickly find things who don't want to scroll a lot, they can check the Collections tab!

MERCH TIER RELOADED: I've also revamped the Evan+Vexteria tier, so it's now a merch tier as well. Not only do you get everything in the previous tiers, but you also will get a merch drop every 5-6 months, as long as you've been subscribed in that tier, during that 6 month period, for four consecutive months. The first merch drop went out about a week ago.

On the writing side, I started strong with NaNo, but hit the wall after about 60k. It's been rough. I'll be taking care of my health over the next few months in a more conscious and deliberate way.

Constellations is officially launching on AO3 in December!

For those who remember the Merchantverse novel Tradewinds, this is coming in book / e-book form to Patreon and Ream only in the Gary+Efnisien Tier or higher. It is a completed Fae Tales Verse story, that focuses on merchant fae in the southern hemisphere, and Seelie vs. Unseelie merchant traders. This will come either in December 2023 or January 2024.

I'll see you all in December! Which is now! We've just passed our first heatwave, which saw a fire severe enough and close enough to the suburbs that several members of my family needed to evacuate. They are safe, thankfully. My flowers are doing well, and I've kept everything alive despite the heat, and the stonefruit is officially in season. Cherries, nectarines, peaches, apricots and more? Summer might be oppressively hot, but the fruit is wonderful.

sorry for the little delay in posting this! school started up and it’s been hectic, but here’s some of the top songs i had on repeat during the month of august and boy was it a hot month for music 

hold the girl- rina sawayama: this song makes my ears orgasm!!!!!!!!!!! the vocals!!!! the BEAT!!!!! the lyrics!!!!! teach me the words i used to know, reach inside and hold you close, i won’t leave you on your own it’s about healing now and healing your younger self and trying not just to hold onto to who you were but to comfort them and hold them close. the entire song is a love letter to your inner child. everything about it sends me through the roof but especially the absolute magical moment between 3:17-3:30 HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!??!!?!?!?!! INSANE. BITING AND RIPPING THINGS AND CRYING!!!!!!!  

it gets dark - sigrid: this song is so punchy i LOVE it. it’s about finding your own path and self and making a life and reaching those little pitfalls and stumbles but still having hope and learning lessons through them!! it’s about it getting dark so you can see the stars!!!! definitely a montage-worthy song. could definitely picture myself walking down a street or in a moving vehicle/train/bus at night listening to this 

the boys of summer - first aid kit: i love first aid kit so much and honestly? this is how this song was supposed to be sung. no i don’t take criticism. it’s achingly sweet and soft and nostalgic for that last breath of summer august chased away. 

out of my head - first aid kit: imo this is their best song to date. they just keep getting better and better. i couldn’t group it with the previous one because of that. it deserves to have its own little paragraph for me to talk about it. the instruments, the vocals, the lyrics. they know just when to pull back and push harder and it makes for suuuuuch a good listening experience. also the harmonies are *pinches earbud wire like pacha* so good. sometimes you DO have to get out of your head to truly see yourself and wonder who you are and where you’re going. stuck inside my dreaming, falling behind shook me. unrelated but i feel like this is a song i’ve heard in the background of my dreams before

shadows - bears den: @preux-chevalier put me onto this song and i haven’t stopped listening to it since. first of all the strings throughout are gorgeous. i’m always a sucker for a violin. second of all- the devotion woven into every line of this is breathtaking. it’s so earnest and loving and yeah i DO want someone who wants me and all my shadows

if it’s not god - maddie zahm: listen. i was attacked. wig? snatched. it captures that wrestling with religion and beliefs you grew up with and finding your own identity and what/how you want to believe. the line in particular what father picks a few just to leave the rest? SCALPED me. holding onto blorbo-ing this for the tags. but the cover art??????????? HELLO???

lucid dreaming - alice kristiansen: this was just rude. still haven’t recovered. never will. it has the rawness very few songs have that just guts me to the core and scrapes everything out without remorse. i had to sit quietly for a bit and just stare at the wall after my first listen. every lyric hits so fucking hard. the entire song is a repeated sucker punch to the stomach. it leaves me winded and aching. i can’t pin point a favorite lyric or else i’d be putting the entire song on this post but this one in particular made me lose my mind: are you tired? are you sleeping? cause i woke up with your ghost again. but the lyrics aren’t the only part doing the heavy lifting in the song because alice kristiansen’s voice is so delicate and the way she sings every line... literally no one else could perform this song as well as she does and that’s that. 

the watching silence - michael & michelle: this duo has the most delicious harmonies and songs that simultaneously hurt me and comfort me. the chorus is pure perfection and i’ve caught myself singing it multiple times when it’s stuck in my head

canyon moon - andrew mcmahon in the wilderness: talk about songs that make me get up and dance!!!!!!! i literally can’t help myself whenever i listen to this song and for that reason i simply cannot play it whenever i’m working or in the studio. andrew mcmahon delivers banger after banger and this is one of the best ones. i crank that shit up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dance away the pain - number one popstar: got read to filth by this. i enjoy how hopeful it is and ofc it’s an absolute bop but a very specific one. as @whatdoyoumeanif said, it has sad twerking and disco ball vibes. the type of song you hear for the last call in an empty karaoke bar

Another friend’s first illustrated graphic novel, Super Pancake, is coming out on Valentine’s Day

Reading a ton of library ebooks lately thanks to my two library cards. I kind of hate that the Libby app tells you how long it took you to read at the end cause that makes me rush, but nonetheless, I love having lots of books on my phone at all times.

Absolutely hectic I tell you! There were an extra six chapters not on the schedule. Madness :D

I soft launched my Ream account, which is a subscription site that is a mirror of Patreon. For anyone who's ever had any payment processor issues with Patreon, doesn't want to support that site, or is super pro supporting a site that allows the kind of written content AO3 does with no censorship, then Ream is the place to be. :D If you ever want to ask me any questions about it, please do, but all-in-all it's the same. The only difference is you're charged only once a month instead of twice!

My favourite part about Ream so far is that you can actually just follow for free, without paying a cent, and give the space a try and see how it feels. It means you'll get the round-up posts and November schedule directly to your email, which is awesome because Tumblr can bury things super fast. :D

For me on the writing side, I was technically on holiday! I wrote a lot of Underline the Red and a lot of Palmarosa. I played a whole lot of different video games, started watching Bridgerton, and did a bunch of gardening. 

All in all, we landed in a space of 31,041 words! And I'm absolutely raring to go for NaNoWriMo, where I'm aiming to write either 60,000 words or write 20 chapters, whichever comes first. Wish me luck and to remember to hydrate :D 

In November, I'm going to be smashing out a lot of our core stories - Underline the Black, The Nascent Diplomat, Constellations and then likely also fanfic like A Stain that Won't Dissolve and hopefully there's some time for Palmarosa in there! 

I will probably launch Constellations on AO3 in December. 

November is likely to be another hectic month with updates, and hopefully it means you get to pick your favourite stories to focus on :D

I'll see you all in November! It's definitely getting hotter now, and we have snapdragons and moss roses in our garden, and soon - hopefully - some dahlias too. Many of the Australian native plants have stopped flowering in preparation for the heat, because our plants know summer is not the best time to flower - pretty weird when you compare that to much of the southern hemisphere!

home by now - MUNA: this song had me by the throat for all of june. all of the questions in it makes me need to sit and think for a while. once again the overall theme of searching for home and never getting there or knowing where it is hurts so good. 

human - gretta ray: i want to violently rip things apart with my teeth when i listen to this song!!!!!!!!! especially at the lyrics ‘i don’t wanna know life outside this room’ ‘i don’t wanna know sights besides this view’!!!!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!!!

call me - gabrielle aplin: a complete 180 from the rest of her music right from the start and i dig it so much. the chorus full of yearning just hooked me in. 

lullaby - aidan alexander: this song reminds me of end of a dark age in the best way possible. it’s that same raw feral love that terrifies and excites me at the same time. also all the ocean/sea mentions got me

as i walk into the sea - allie crow buckley: oh god. this song speaks to just how lonely adulthood is ‘i can’t make it on my own’ immediately followed by ‘i just want to be alone’ literally makes me want to walk into the sea and never return

gemini - brynn cartelli: oh a WHOLE bop!!!!!! i have no opinions on people who are gemini, but excellent song to dance around the living room to

scared of getting what i want - annika bennet: i got called tf out with this song. ‘i’m so scared of what i want, scared that it’s not really what i need’ ah. AH!!!!!

want want - maggie rogers: as @whatdoyoumeanif said, maggie’s taken a hard right turn from her usual synth with this song but it goes hard and it is wild in the best way and definitely a song you listen to when you “boss walk down the sidewalk in a dense urban area” 

seventeen - sharon van etten: stole this from @152glasslippers whose taste in music is sublime. i was instantly captivated by the cover art and then promptly hit across the face by the lyric ‘i used to be free i used to be seventeen’ it’s so wistful and bitter. i want to hold it in my hands and squeeze until it bursts

nothing - jetty bones: i have to include this one since 152glasslippers and i have fallen down the eddie/chrissy rabbit hole. i don’t know if it’s the incredible 80′s vibes or the lyrics ‘i don't know if you want me to run or if i should be fighting for my life’ blorbo from my shows brain has me thinking about this entire song as a love letter to chrissy if she lived and broke up with jason and left hawkins with eddie ok? ok
