REVIEW
It’s a Date (Again) by Jeneva Rose
Losing your memories wouldn’t be easy ~ Waking to three attractive men claiming to be your boyfriend and not remembering any of them wouldn’t make it any easier. Throw in friends willing to help you figure out which of the three was the one you had decided you loved, dates to be gone on that might trigger or assist your memories, and wanting to get it right and you have a bit of a dilemma. One of Peyton’s friends told her to wait till she remembered but if she had…this book wouldn’t have happened so…off to the dating game Peyton went.
This was a fun, easy, sweet read that was somewhat predictable. It was a nice escape to spend time with Peyton, meet her friends, and find out how she finally decides who the man she loves truly is. You can’t always know what is inside a book by the cover and that is true of the men in Peyton’s life. I was pretty sure who she would end up with and the conclusion was satisfying as Peyton did end up with the best man for her.
The characters were well developed and easy to get to know. Mayba, Robbie, Debbie, Hank, and Anthony were supportive, kind, and honest. Nash, Tyler, and Shawn were worthy potential beaus ~ at least in the beginning and a few might be worth of stories of their own.
This was the first book I have read by this author and would like to thank her, Montlake, and Netgalley for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
BLURB
One lovestruck woman. Three handsome boyfriends—and strangers. A unique dating adventure awaits in a hilarious and heartwarming romantic comedy by New York Times bestselling author Jeneva Rose. A guy told me he loved me tonight. Peyton Sanders hopes it’s not too late to say it back. Done with dead-end relationships and swiping right, she knows who her heart belongs to. But as she races to tell him how she feels, she’s hit by a car and wakes up with amnesia. It gets worse. Peyton has no clue who the three men who show up at her hospital bed are except they each claim to be her boyfriend. They’re certainly worth remembering. A rustic-looking contractor—heaven in flannel. A tailored consultant with a smile to die for. And a tattooed chef with a box of homemade chocolates, both delicious. Peyton’s friends Maya and Robbie have an idea: date each man again. Recognizing her soulmate should be as easy as one, two, three. On a wildly romantic and dizzyingly funny journey, Peyton runs once again toward love. This time, hopefully, her heart can guide her where her mind cannot.

Q: Describe your experience as a traditionally published writer. I feel very lucky that my traditional publishing experience has been a phenomenal one thus far. When I started my journey, I knew that the style of rom com I write is quirky and hard to categorize–contemporary rom com that deals with bigger themes–so finding an agent and publishing house who were willing to take a risk on a book…

MIDNIGHT DUET🎶
Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the free review copy. Book available now.
I haven't really watched Phantom of the Opera, but when I was approached to read and review Midnight Duet, a gender swapped version, I jumped on it. A friend of mine in middle school was obsessed with the musical, so it always makes me think of her.
I'll start out by saying that I enjoyed this one overall. However, the main characters in this dual pov book (Erika and Christof) are INCREDIBLY horny and could barely be in the same room together at the beginning without wanting to rip each other's clothes off. As a sex-averse asexual, I found the frequency of sexual thoughts/actions off-putting and almost DNFed at the 18% mark. There was a semi-public masturbation-for-show scene that icked me out, but I pushed through and am glad I did because I enjoyed the overall story:  struggling ex-broadway performer inherits historical opera house (and attached brothel) in small-town Nevada and is on a mission to save it despite her family's reputation in town; German Hair Metal front man has just been dumped in the worst way and is looking for a distraction by renting out said opera house to work on the band's first album in English. The chemistry is undeniable. It was just super heavy-handed, in my opinion, but I know a lot of you like that kind of thing. Think Chloe Brown level spice.
The characters were well developed (the dual pov really helped set the story up), I absolutely adored Sybille (spelling?) the gothy/witchy bassist, and the fact the Erika had rats made me super happy (don't worry, nothing bad happens to them). It was well paced, engaging, funny, and steamy.
If you enjoy steamier and open-door romance, forbidden romance, unlikable heroines, gender-swapped stories, forced proximity, insta attraction, and/or German Hair Metal, this is the book for you.
Rating: 4 stars Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

The Protector by Susan Stoker
 4 1/2 stars
Tumblr media
This was a great balance of intrigue and emotions! This is the start of the series, and it starts by us meeting the characters at their worst and in trouble. We fast forward and meet them as they are now, still dealing with their past trauma, but living their best planned lives now.
Our hero has an isolated cabin he escapes to, and this is where we have our story. From a dog showing up, to a woman on the run stranded, and an untimely illness, sets everything up. These two connect before they even really know each other, but the more they get to know, the more they bond. They just know where things are right, and this is what feels right for them. This is two people, in forced proximity, both with their own problems, finding out about each other, and falling in love. I loved the characters, their story, and cannot wait for more!

REVIEW
Hot Mess Summer by Melissa Foster
Not sure how to review and rate this book. When I saw it up for review and saw the author’s name I was eager to read it no matter what…I postponed starting till the book was about to disappear from my feed of books to read, and though in an accident a week or so ago…tackled it today…and…it was not the Melissa Foster I have read and grown to love in the past. Melissa Foster has always been a writer of steamy stories that drew me in quickly made me care about the characters and think about how the main characters would find their way to their personal happily ever after. This did not feel the same and I wasn’t sure why so…Google being my friend and not wanting to read a whole lot more after reading the beginning, the end, a bit in the middle, and some online reviews…I realized, after reading a bit on Google,  that this is probably a cathartic writing by the author to deal with her own recent life issues  that may have included a divorce, a move, and a whole lot of personal insight.
Big breath…this author is a skilled writer and her personal journey with insights shared through fiction is a generous gift but perhaps not for everyone – especially as this is not included in the book description. I am still on the fence and a bit stumped because I am not sure if this is a romance or an autobiographical fictional look at the author’s life and a summer spent in a recently purchased home, perhaps with female friends while exploring the area and people she meets BUT am glad that it seems, from blog posts, that she has settled into where she now lives and has the potential for a wonderful future.\
And, with all of that said, I chose NOT to read the book but am hopeful that in writing this book the author will soon find her way to writing the books that I grew to love and look forward to BUT should she have found a new vision for her writing, I will give her next book a try.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.

BLURB
Who buys a cottage in a New England fishing village on a whim? A stressed-out, twice-divorced romance writer and single mother looking for a fresh start, that’s who. Despite what my besties say about my three-year dry spell, I’m not looking for a man. Or drama. Or sex. I’ve got enough on my plate with writer’s block and a daughter who refuses to grow up. Community. That’s what I need. Unfortunately, it seems the universe has other ideas. Either Chatemup, Massachusetts, has a serious shortage of single women, or I’ve become a hot mess magnet for the male species. At least I’ve found one funny, good-hearted friend: fish peddler Declan Miller, my brainstorming adventure buddy who stirs my creative juices. I’m his Writer Girl. He’s my Dimple Dude. Just scruffy, granite-chested, deep-voiced, ex-military brawn who happens to be—oh, Nicole, what are you doing to yourself?—stoking a long-neglected fire without even trying. A self-confessed hot mess, divorced single dad Declan is too old for relationship games. Not interested. Same here. So why do I keep thinking about him? Preferably naked. Because I’m a hot mess, too? At least he’s inspiring me to write. If only real life were like one of my novels. At least then I’d have a better idea of how this was going to end.

Stars Collide by Rachel Lacey ARC Review
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Stars Collide is a lovely sapphic romance that takes its time with all the delicious details!
Anna and Eden are two stars in the music industry who decide to collaborate for a shared tour. Anna is a 27-year-old rising star who wants to grow her fan base and generate a larger presence in the music world, while Eden, a 36-year-old, seems to be fading out of the limelight as a recent divorcee whose most recent album release did not do as well as she had hoped. Anna has been obsessed with Eden since girlhood, and since she has left her abusive ex (Camille) in the past, she can't help being starry-eyed over touring with her childhood idol. Eden is lonely after ending her marriage with her husband and is uncertain about what to do next with her life and her career. Anna is an out and proud pansexual while Eden is hetero… Or so she has thought for many years.
As the two women launch their tour and deal with the difficulties of being celebrities in the spotlight, they develop a close relationship with each other. Anna is afraid of scaring Eden off since all initial signals indicate that Eden is straight, and Eden's role as Anna's newfound mentor- and the fact that she has the upper hand in their tour contract- reminds Anna of the old power dynamics between Anna and her abusive ex. Eden has always believed that she just can't connect to romance in the same way other people seem to, so when she starts experiencing fireworks around Anna, it throws her for a loop. Can sexuality change over a person's lifetime? Has she learned something new about herself that she simply did not know before? The need to generate positive responses from fans to save Eden's failing career, alongside Anna's inexperience in the music industry creates an urgent background as the two women bond and develop feelings that have the power to change the course of their futures.
I loved the entire ride! Stars Collide is a slow-burn romance with two extremely likable FMCs. I read a lot of sapphic romances, and sometimes I skew toward really liking one character and not liking the other one at all, which ruins the book for me. Not so with this one! Lacey has done a superb job creating flawed characters who are 100% human, but who are people I would love to meet in real life. Watching Anna mature as a stage performer and Eden find her confidence in intimate relationships made the book unputdownable. I read it in a single afternoon! I am so thankful the author wrote an older (not old, just older than the average 19-year-old FMC in romances) character who discovers her sexual orientation later in life, rather than in teenagehood. I often find myself going to read YA contemporaries to find coming-out stories, but there aren't as many in adult fiction. I know so many people will feel seen because of this representation since many people do not figure out their entire sexual or gender profile in their teen years. Self-discovery takes place all throughout a person's life, and I love the fact that this was explored in Stars Collide!
Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel Lacey, and the publishers at Montlake for sending me an e-ARC! I will definitely be placing this on my list of top sapphic romances to recommend to friends and followers.
