More Motorcity X Pixar Cars Stuff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was too lazy to digitally color everybody. I did have a design for AJ, Rayon, Thurman, The Oracle, Ruby, and Jenzen, but I think I lost them.
Some design notes:
-Kane is based on his roadster from Vega
-Tooley is a Maru (Planes 2) Styled Forklift
-Tennie, The Duke, Red, Bracket, Foxy, Junior, and Jacob are based on their own cars
-Babs/No. 2 is based loosely on Finn McMissile's early design from Cars 1
-Kaia is now a Road Rumbler/Road Warrior-styled car with military plane wings on her back to reference the wings from Mayhem Night
-Claire is a sports car.
Anyone I missed?

Little details/things to think about/things to appreciate in Motorcity:
- Mike is always dropping un-prompted compliments into conversations with his friends (calling Dutch “the best mechanic in Motorcity” in “Like Father, Like Daughter”, calling Chuck a genius in “Vega”, etc). It’s really sweet. X3
- The Duke’s security system said “Ouch” when Julie shorted it out in “The Duke of Detroit”
- Mike is very protective of his bobblehead dog. He held onto it during the Detroit Doom Jump, so it wouldn’t get damaged in the explosion. And he made sure to take it with him even when he abandoned Mutt in the finale. He really loves that thing.
- In “Vega” when the Duke is proposing that they team up, it looks like Roth and Cyborg Dan are about to fight. Do they have beef with each other? XD
- In “Like Father, Like Daughter” when they’re all discussing what they would do to torment Kane, Chuck is the only one whose idea would have instantly killed him
- In Texas’ imagination sequence in “Texas-ify It” everyone else gets carried (semi)comfortably on Texas’ back, while Chuck gets dragged behind him like a sack of potatoes. Even in an imaginary scenario Chuck can’t catch a break.
- Chuck only has nine toes, and he’s afraid of cats. These are both canon facts that the show mentions once, then never brings up again.
- Claire was just casually watching cartoons, while everyone else was fighting for their lives with the climator. XD
- The show never states or gives any hint that Motorcity has any sort of government
- Claire was so excited to help during the big battle at the climax of “Julie and the Amazons”. It’s cute. :3
- Based on “The Duke of Detroit” and “Vendetta” it seems Chuck has a big appetite
- Chuck and Texas are both visibly amused by Julie’s “Their moms forgot to pick them up from hockey practice” joke in “The Duke of Detroit”
- Kaia sounds so awkward when speaking to Mike after she left him for dead. Like she legitimately didn’t think he’d survive and now she doesn’t know what to say upon seeing that he has.
- Kane hates cars and banned them... but he’s actually a really good driver?
- Mike is the only one of the Burners who doesn’t have friends outside the group
- Claire seems a lot more receptive to Chuck’s advances when he acts more confident (see “Fearless” and the ending of “Reunion”)
- Chuck and Claire both like puns (see “Ride of the Fantasy Vans” and “Mayhem Night”)
- Mike stress-cleans
- Most animal species are probably extinct in the show’s setting
- The brown parts of the Duke’s hair don’t seem to be attached to the blond parts. They look like extensions.
- Julie has a paper with little cat sketches on it pinned to her bedroom wall. Did she sketch them herself? Or was it one of her friends?
- Julie wears high heels, but is still the shortest person in her friend group
- In “Julie and the Amazons” Claire could have said “Then you met the Burners” or “Then you came to Motorcity” instead of “Then you met Mike” and gotten the same point across. But she felt the need to single Mike out. My Jukebox brain refuses to let that go. X3
- Jacob suffers from chronic night terrors (see “The Robo-Roundup”) :(
- Jacob immediately goes to Mike for comfort when it seems like the Mama’s Boys have killed Roth
- The location captions in “Threat Level: Texas” are perfect. “The Duke’s Stupid House” is my favorite. XD
- In “Mayhem Night” Mike says “You remember last year” when addressing the whole group. The Burners were definitely already formed by Halloween of the previous year.
- Julie seemed pretty happy about Claire kissing Chuck. Does she ship them as much as Mike does?
- Dutch was so ready to throw hands with the Duke in the finale

Motorcity Viewing Order
Bonj-aloha, folks!
I'm a little over halfway through Motorcity (episode 12) and I've just realized that the order in which I'm viewing the episodes was probably not the intended viewing order. Thanks to @zombiezonk for letting me know! I'd heard that something wonky happened with the airing of the show, but I thought the episodes were numbered in the order the studio intended them to be viewed.
I found possibly the correct viewing order on a post by @peopleofmotorcity, and I think maybe from this point forward I'll follow that viewing order?
Conveniently, the first twelve episodes are not swapped with any of the last eight, so I can switch very easily from this point. You can see in the little chart all of the episodes I've watched (green) and episodes I haven't watched (red).
Tumblr media
As @zombiezonk pointed out, Chuck's arc makes a lot more sense with Ride of the Fantasy Vans after Fearless and Blond Thunder, and looking at this chart I can also see a little more narrative logic in delaying Vendetta; the reveal of Mike's history with Kane has a bigger impact with a little more time to build up.
So I think I'm going to watch Reunion next instead of Mayhem Night - if anybody has input about whether or not that's a good idea, I'd absolutely love to hear from you!

hey Mikey, whatcha dreaming about?  //  hey Chuckles, what are you so afraid of?
The more power Mike gives other people, the more he has to give; the more Mayhem takes from other people, the more he can keep on taking.  His powers are horribly reminiscent of Kane’s, with one major exception; once Kane has taken everything his victim has to give, they’re no use to him any more.  When Mayhem drains somebody dry, he can just keep feeding.
rollerskatinglizard said to livelivefastfree:  Superhero au, Mike and Fearless 8)  rollerskatinglizard said to livelivefastfree:  *brilliant idea* oooooh, a matched set -- superhero au, Chuck and Mayhem!

I just got done rewatching Motorcity, and I noticed something in Mayhem Night. In the episode, the team is attacked by the Terra Dwellers and Mike, Texas, Julie and Claire are all forced to face their fears. Julie and Mike's fears involve Kane, which makes sense, but I never got why Texas' fear was candy. I mean, he was chowing down on a bowl of it seconds before the attack, so it's not like he was scared of it until now.
Then, it hit me.
It's not so much that they're seeing their deepest fears, but something that they love that hurt them; Texas overdoes it on the candy every year, and obviously Kane was someone who Julie and Mike looked up to at one time, but were let down. The resolve in the episode was each character confronting their fear head on.
So, why would Chuck be Claire's fear?
The two don't interact much unless prompted to by the team. (i.e. Mike convinces Chuck to stay behind in Ride the Lightning or even Dutch in this episode). Claire is reasonably annoyed as she comes to Motorcity to hang out with Julie, but that seldom ever works out. Claire even admits to the Amazons(if you watch in the intended order, with Mayhem Night being episode 18) that she doesn't hate the Burners, but isn't used to their antics. This is fair, since Claire isn't usually out of harm's way while the Burners are around(her pod gets destroyed in Reunion, her Safety Suit breaks after she gets hit by Texas' car, some dude grabs her while she's at Antonio's, ect).
Mayhem Night was one of the only times we see Claire and Chuck going off on their own, with the other time being in Fearless. They actually seem to get along pretty well when they're by themselves and not under attack; Chuck even gets Claire to laugh! Seconds after this, however, they're attacked, leading to Claire's hallucination.
Claire's fear involved being married to Chuck, with a kid, and living in his car in Motorcity (Side note, anyone notice the baby holding a toy cat, which is one of Chuck's phobias). Now, what bugged me this go around was, Claire was actually the first to confront her when she says she's not living in a car or in Motorcity.
Obviously, this didn't work.
Actually, Claire went a completely different route that the others, who tackled their fears by literally tackling them(or in Julie's case, verbally telling them off). So, why did a kiss get Claire over her fear? If anything, that would've been the perfect moment for her to completely reject Chuck. I know the show has a limited time frame, but still. What was the point of all that?
My takeaway was this; I think Claire's fear was her own feelings for Chuck and not him in general. The Burners live dangerous lives and the thought of being caught up in all that is frightening. Actually, it makes her a nice foil for Tennie, who wants to be apart of the action in this episode.
The writing for these two was tragic, but I don't think Mayhem Night was supposed to come off the way it did when it first aired.

Album Review: Dumb - Club Nites
Best Tracks: Club Nites, Cursed, My Condolences, Columbo
FCC Violations: Beef Hits, Some Big Motor Dream
This is probably the most indy album I’ve ever heard in my life! Insert “LOL” anywhere you’d like and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Filled with underground angst and shenanigans intertwined with a few unknown characters that are roasted through a narration-style of vocals, Club Nites is out there in the stratosphere somewhere but I can be sure of one thing: I’ve never heard anything like this before. It’s aggressive, out of the box, covered in a blanket of punk rock, and pulls you in with its weirdness and colorful textures.
‘Club Nites’ - it’s that title track heavy-hitter that starts off the record while basically showing you what to expect in its entirety with short songs just over the two minute mark, in-your-face belligerence while holding the title of definitely not being the music your parents… well, probably grandparents listened to. Yeah, I’m just old enough to have a teenager. Where has the time gone!
Anyways, back to the intro-track. Midway through, the lines “I got punched out dissing whining trading favors for regrets/I get it you’re an artist yeah you’ve got so much to say,” has that airy pretentiousness with a hint of hypocrisy and elitism but maybe that’s what Dumb is going for here: being hipster within the hipster realm and as such, trashing out your own social community in a satirical way. I dig it and if this sample of sound was regurgitated into television, it would be a Netflix original series comedy. Maybe baby Franco could reprise his high schooler counterculture role from 21 Jump Street as a spin-off series.
The bass tracks are superb, especially in ‘Cursed’ and ‘My Condolences’ where the bass keeps a clean ride while holding the fort down so the other instrumentation can glide effortlessly in the chaos. Shelby Vredik is a talented bassist for sure. I mean, you’d have to be to keep the foundation strong in a band that excels in organized mayhem.
There’s even a cowbell! Used in ‘Some Big Motorcity Dream’ as an eight-count in the intro, it kicks in with the gritty, paving the way to an abruptly placed pre chorus with Vredik’s vocal harmony and upstroke guitar chords.
Oh, I forgot, De Mas is sung entirely in Spanish which is just another reason to take this band at more than just its name and musical ambiance. This track is a fun one with fantastic drumming and by gosh a breakdown? Yep, that’s what ended the song, lasting no more than 8 seconds.
Somehow, everything works here for the Canadian four-piece who seem to be experts at blending noise effectively to give the listener a rollercoaster of a ride. It should be known, the band made some noise while playing on the Vancouver independent music scene from 2015 to 2016, releasing three EPs and two albums in that small timeframe. Dumb is a workhorse that more than deserves a look see.

another thing I really like about motorcity is that they divide focus eps p obviously....... chuck has “blonde thunder” + “fearless” + “ride of the fantasy vans” and it follows a good character arc..... julie has “off the rack” + “like father like daughter” + “julie and the amazons”..... dutch has “going dutch” + “reunion” + “mayhem night”...... texas has “texas-ify it” + “the robo roundup” + “threat level: texas”........ mike has basically all the other eps but everyone’s always involved...... plus there’s eps for character development and eps for character consistency.... I like it
