vox machina: half of a coed secret society currently facing university crackdown due to excessive rowdiness and flagpole scaling get a sizable townhouse; there they handle lizard escapes, child support requests, police scrutiny, many villainous professors, and members who won't stop getting engaged to each other.
the mighty nein: paranoid houseboat owners renting the absolutely cheapest moorings at a marina in a midsized european canal city band together against judgemental neighbors/local boat safety inspections/the concept of decay/ecosystem degradation in their waterways/their own dark pasts/two art-student ass cults; against all odds succeed at everything.
bell’s hells: posters on a queer housing page in toronto pack 6-11 people (depending on the day) into a two bedroom; ping-pong between icily polite spy warfare and cloying codependence, all while ostensibly working together to save a critically endangered species of salamander—end up involved in years old industrial drama opposing their friend’s shady mining corporation mom.

So as we're heading into the American primaries, now is a super good time to see if you're registered to vote. Remember: even if you've been registered in the past, it's possible you've been removed from the registry without being notified. Go check.
Also, now's a really good time to put into your calendar when the relevant dates are for voting. If you plan on voting for election day, this link lists when that is in your state.
Note that voter ID laws may have changed since last time you voted. This map by ballotpedia shows the requirements by state. These rules may be different in the event that you are showing up to register and vote at the same time.
Tumblr media
If you're unhappy with all of the options, remember that voting is not the only form of civic engagement you can engage in - getting engaged in your local community is still very much an option that is on the table and is effective. Voting and community organizing are not mutually exclusive acts. While the presidential race is the most prominent it is not the only race that's happening, and that local races that will affect your life far more directly are also on the ballot. Go vote.

that slate article about rehnquist "secretly" making the country worse with his "behind the scenes" "editing" of other justice's opinions and his loud memos? yeah none of that is surprising and it is beyond frustrating that supposedly "liberal" media is only recently figuring out that the courts have been the arena for misogynist racist fascist policy-making since the beginning of goddamn time.
oh, rehnquist liked the plessy v fergusen ruling? but didn't say so loud and proud all the time? why are we all so behind on treating justices like politicians. rehnquist presented his disdain of the reconstruction amendments in an "acceptable" way. gorsuch is just lying about taking all "text" at face value. legal discourse IS rhetoric, y'all. this shouldn't be groundbreaking.

The new 52,000 sqft Lubbock Police Department Headquarters in Downtown Lubbock, Texas was designed by Parkhill and built by Lee Lewis Construction.
Amenities such as multi-purpose meeting spaces, collaboration rooms, break areas, and a fitness center create a comfortable space that promotes the strong mental and physical health of officers.
The facility will host the motors division, records, criminal investigations, key personnel of the patrol division, communications and dispatch staff, as well as the City of Lubbock Fire Marshal's office. This co-location of the various departments will encourage collaboration and communication during investigations.

Overwhelmed U.S. Immigration Court System
The U.S. immigration court system is overwhelmed with its current 2.5 million open cases with those seeking asylum waiting an average of 5.8 years for a trial or hearing on the merits. This primarily is due to shortfalls in the federal immigration budget.[1] A leading example of these problems is the immigration court in Omaha, Nebraska with jurisdiction over cases in that state plus Iowa, which…

"Asks Tobacco Dealers Ignore Early Closing," The Globe and Mail. October 3, 1942. Page 4. ---- Harry Rohrer, president of the Toronto Newsdealers and Tobacconists' Association, said last night he had requested members of the association to remain open after the 10 p.m. closing deadline in protest against sale of tobacco after this hour in restaurants and hotels. Mr. Rohrer said the association has 354 members and he had advised many of them by telephone to remain open in protest. His own shop on Bloor Street West would remain open until midnight, he asserted.
"We are going to disregard the closing by-law until such time as Mayor Conboy lives up to his promise that restaurants and hotels would also be prevented from selling cigarets at 10 p.m." declared Mr. Rohrer. The early closing by-law became effective Thursday, Oct. 1 It stipulates that drug stores and tobacco shops, which formerly remained open until late hours, must close at 10 p.m. with the exception of Saturdays, when the closing hour was set at midnight. Opposition to the by-law was expressed by Mr. Rohrer and other members of the Toronto Newsdealers and Tobacconists' Association when the matter was pending before City Council. "During the fight against the bylaw, we questioned the ability of the city to regulate tobacco sales in restaurants and hotels," asserted Mr. Rohrer. "We pointed out the city could not stop Sunday selling of tobacco by drug stores and restaurants. The mayor said that when the by-law was passed he would make certain that there were not sales in restaurants and hotels after ur closing hours." Members of his association consider the by-law was "railroaded" through City Council, Mr. Rohrer maintained. Its effect is discriminatory against newsdealers and tobacconists, he contended. Legal counsel has been retained by the association to test validity of the by-law if prosecutions follow action of the tobacconists in remaining open after 10 p.m., Mr. Rohrer sald. "We took the matter up with the police when we found hotels and restaurants were selling after 10 p.m.," asserted Mr. Rohrer. "They told us they had no power to do anything. We then decided to stay open and test the by-law." Mayor Conboy is attempting to regulate tobacco sales in restaurants under new licenses to be is- sued in January, Mr. Rohrer stated. This will mean that restaurants will "have a harvest of sales" for three months with resultant loss of business to tobacconists, he claimed. "We found that our business dropped about 10 per cent on Thursday when we closed at 10 p.m.," stated Mr. Rohrer. "It will drop further if people get to know they can obtain tobacco in restaurants and hotels. "As president of the association, I am remaining open after 10 p.m… and have advised members who have contacted me to do the same thing. "As regards hotels, we know the city cannot regulate their business because they come under Provincial jurisdiction," he continued. "However, the mayor told us he would fix this up with the Ontario. Liquor Commission." Mayor Conboy could not be reached for comment

Holy crap, I didn't think Biden would be able to get the Climate Corps established without Congress. This is SUCH fantastic news.
--
"After being thwarted by Congress, President Joe Biden will use his executive authority to create a New Deal-style American Climate Corps that will serve as a major green jobs training program.
In an announcement Wednesday, the White House said the program will employ more than 20,000 young adults who will build trails, plant trees, help install solar panels and do other work to boost conservation and help prevent catastrophic wildfires.
The climate corps had been proposed in early versions of the sweeping climate law approved last year but was jettisoned amid strong opposition from Republicans and concerns about cost.
Democrats and environmental advocacy groups never gave up on the plan and pushed Biden in recent weeks to issue an executive order authorizing what the White House now calls the American Climate Corps.
“After years of demonstrating and fighting for a Climate Corps, we turned a generational rallying cry into a real jobs program that will put a new generation to work stopping the climate crisis,” said Varshini Prakash, executive director of the Sunrise Movement, an environmental group that has led the push for a climate corps.
With the new corps “and the historic climate investments won by our broader movement, the path towards a Green New Deal is beginning to become visible,” Prakash said...
...Environmental activists hailed the new jobs program, which is modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps, created in the 1930s by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a Democrat, as part of the New Deal...
Lawmakers Weigh In
More than 50 Democratic lawmakers, including Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, had also encouraged Biden to create a climate corps, saying in a letter on Monday that “the climate crisis demands a whole-of-government response at an unprecedented scale.”
The lawmakers cited deadly heat waves in the Southwest and across the nation, as well as dangerous floods in New England and devastating wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, among recent examples of climate-related disasters.
Democrats called creation of the climate corps “historic” and the first step toward fulfilling the vision of the Green New Deal.
“Today President Biden listened to the (environmental) movement, and he delivered with an American Climate Corps,” a beaming Markey said at a celebratory news conference outside the Capitol.
“We are starting to turn the green dream into a green reality,” added Ocasio-Cortez, who co-sponsored the Green New Deal legislation with Markey four years ago.
“You all are changing the world,” she told young activists.
Program Details and Grant Deadlines
The initiative will provide job training and service opportunities to work on a wide range of projects, including restoring coastal wetlands to protect communities from storm surges and flooding; clean energy projects such as wind and solar power; managing forests to prevent catastrophic wildfires; and energy efficient solutions to cut energy bills for consumers, the White House said.
Creation of the climate corps comes as the Environmental Protection Agency launches a $4.6 billion grant competition for states, municipalities and tribes to cut climate pollution and advance environmental justice. The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants are funded by the 2022 climate law and are intended to drive community-driven solutions to slow climate change.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the grants will help “communities so they can chart their own paths toward the clean energy future.”
The deadline for states and municipalities to apply is April 1, with grants expected in late 2024. Tribes and territories must apply by May 1, with grants expected by early 2025."

I hate texas liquor laws w every fiber of my being
Why did my current county decide beer and wine and liquor were ok like ten years ago so we don’t have to cross county lines
Why do i have to wait till noon on sundays to buy alcohol anywhere in the state
Why does my hometown not allow liquor and spirit sales and make me drive across city lines to get anything but beer and wine
