"I think overall, the reason Penelope's heel turn was so poorly received is that it pretty much f*cked up everyone's characters simultaneously. I think Penelope could have been at least an okay villain (I mean, she started off as one in 3), but her portrayal made a brilliant character portrayed as Bentley's intellectual and inventing equal as vapid, whiny and shallow. It made Bentley look like a complete idiot, Sly's typical offbeat playfulness veered into an annoying devil-may-care snark, and Murray was just not there at all despite his emotional intelligence being a huge part of 3's dynamics. It's hard to salvage because it screws up so much in one fell swing."
