Me: Wondering how Silver Thread went from constant fluff to dark and depressing.
Also Me: Watching the movie I first heard the name Veda from with tears streaming down my face. 🥲
The movie in question: My Girl 1991, for those of you who have been fortunate enough not to see this gut-wrenching film staring Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd, Anna Chlumsky, and Macaulay Culkin, consider yourself lucky. For those of you who have, I'm so sorry.
Update: I'm going to try to finish chapter 9 this weekend, possibly the epilogue too if I find the will. I know I promised to do Silver Bells right after I finished Silver Thread, but honestly, I might end up doing the Cash fic, The Birds and the Bees first, and for that I apologize. I'm just having a really hard time writing for Veda and Terry, I think I've finally hit the burn out stage and I think it might be beneficial for my writing and creativity if I focus on something else for a little while. I still plan on working on Silver Bells on the side, I'm just saying it might not be out to you this month after all. I hope you guys don't mind too much @karatekels , and I have been talking about my plans for the Cash fic for a while and I think you guys will end up really enjoying it in the long run!

Decided to do some more Disney Villain Backstories, this time featuring our first male Villain, Gaston!
(Well, first Male one I've done anyway, not necessarily first Male Disney Villain )
Gaston was the younger of two sons of the Legume family, his elder brother Avenant died in war when he was small, causing both his parents to become bitter and distant, not sparing much care for their younger son
Was actually fairly weak and scrawny as a kid, his family was poor and so he was undernourished
His physical weakness caused him to be picked on a lot by the other stronger boys in the village, as well as being shamed and beaten by his father for being so weak and unsatisfactory next to his beloved and seemingly perfect older brother
He wanted to be seen as strong and brave though, which lead him to once try and defend a young LeFou as he was also picked on by the town bullies for his small stature
They both still got beaten up badly but this lead to Lafou devoting himself to Gaston in genuine gratitude, and his friendship and admiration lead to a boost in self confidence (and ego) in Gaston
LeFou's family owned a large chicken farm, (it's LeFou's older brother we see driving the wagon with the birdcage on back of it in "Bonjour" and his father selling the eggs) and once Gaston befriended LeFou he started eating dinner (and many eggs) at their house, which began to improve his health/strength
This lead him to begin a training regime to continue improving his strength, during which he discovered he also possessed a talent for tracking and hunting, which also improved his fortunes
By the time he was 15 Gaston had become bigger and stronger than any other boy in town and he made sure that all of his former tormentors knew their place
Your basic 'bullied becomes the bully take'
When war rolled around in his 17th year, Gaston was eager to sign up and further prove his metal/that he was just as good or even better then his brother--and his ruthlessness and cunning served him well on the battlefield (though his nose did get broken). He came home a decorated hero, richer and more respected than ever.
His parents had both died by then, a fact he found bitter as he wanted his victory to cause them to finally acknowledge him
But the townsfolk lavished him with the attention he sought, seeing him as their own personal Hometown Hero, and he was happy to settle in and play the role. He bought the tavern and began decorating it with his trophies as his home away from home (to the delight of the tavern keeper's three young and very besotted daughters) and continued to be top dog of the town in all physical pursuits,
When he was 20, Belle (14) and her father moved into the town, seeking a new start after the death of Belle's mother and younger sister, Clarice, from illness
Gaston didn't take much notice of Belle until a couple of years later, when she began to start really coming into her full beauty and he started feeling that perhaps it was time he settled down and brought some more Gaston's into the world…
