Wednesday, November 8.
Mass Effect fanart.
Yesterday was November 7, known to Mass Effect fans as N7 Day. Today, as you may have discerned, is November 8. And so, we thought to ourselves, why not celebrate N7 on N8 and stretch out the celebrations for another 24 hours? It's crazy, sure—but it might just be crazy enough to work.
Voila. Hey presto. Here's some #mass effect fanart. You deserve it, quite frankly.

N7 Month 2023 ‑ Day 28 Prompt: Contact
.
in 2157, turians found human explorers reactivating an inactive mass relay known as Relay 314. This was forbidden under the Citadel regulations, but instead of negotiating, the turians opened fire.
To the turians, it was merely a police action against an ignorant species violating Council law; to humanity, it was their first encounter with another intelligent race - and it would shape their views of the galaxy for decades to follow.
Eventually the turians broke through to attack Shanxi, the closest human colony to the mass relay, and settled in for a protracted orbital siege. With the turians able to kill any human soldiers from above, the Shanxi defenders began to starve, unable to get food or supplies without risking civilian lives. Eventually General Williams, Ashley Williams' grandfather, was forced to surrender the Shanxi garrison.

N7 Month, 2023 - Day 3: Flight
“Happy birthday.” Kaidan pressed the box to Shepard’s chest and leaned in for a kiss. Their lips brushed momentarily and Shepard came away looking suspicious.
“I thought you said you weren’t getting me anything?” Shepard limped to a little table by the window. More than a year of recovery following the destruction of the Crucible and Shepard still walked with a limp. The whole planet seemed to be limping along, though. The salarian atmosphere scrubbers working day and night, convoys from some of the untouched outer Earth colonies showing up to help rebuild infrastructure. Alliance brass had sent Shepard to Corsica to recover, and he’d brought Kaidan with him. They’d only been in the Mediterranean for about a week, and Shepard had told Kaidan that Kaidan’s presence was more than enough of a birthday present for Shepard.
“I wasn’t going to get you anything, but it’s not every day you find one of these, so it felt special. Felt right.” Kaidan sat across from Shepard, the breathing in the warm air that wafted through the open window.
The box was small, and precisely wrapped in brown paper—probably the best Kaidan could find. Shepard removed the paper without tearing it, and then opened the box…
“It’s… a…”
“A T-970 mass effect field generator and flight control module!” Kaidan declared, leaning over the table to tap the label on the inside of the box. It was a mini mass effect module, made to go inside the brand of model Shepard was so fond of collecting. It made them fly. “These were always on back-order before the war. I couldn’t believe I fond one the other day that a guy was pawning.”
Shepard held the drive in his hand, maybe the size of an old silver dollar. It felt unusually heavy for its size, but none of that would matter once it was synced with him omni-tool and switched on.
“Wow, I’ve never installed one of these before.” He stared at the little black disc. His eyes burned ever so slightly to look at it, to think of Kaidan’s excitement, finding this for him on the street. “Th-thank you…”
“I know it’s not much,” Kaidan scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “I know how much you like those models, and I know you really haven’t had any to build lately. Figured you might try flying one around. It’ll work on any of them: standardized to work with all their sets.” He kept talking about the specifications, but Shepard barely heard them for the sound of Kaidan’s voice. Truthfully, Shepard had never thought of getting one of these little model flight modules for his models: the fun was in putting them together, not in flying them around. But it was just like Kaidan to see an old model like that sitting on Shepard’s shelf and imagine it should be flying. Shepard grinned.
Twenty minutes later, and they were sitting outside their little house with the Normandy SR-1 model hovering silently in front of them. Shepard made it rise up high above their heads, then swoop down in mimicry of the old ship dropping off the Mako on a planet’s surface.
“Flies beautifully!” Kaidan exclaimed, chuckling when the Normandy brushed over his shoulder as it whisked up above the trees and back down in a lazy arc. “Did you ever think you’d see the ol’ thing flying again?”
Shepard smiled, took his eyes off his model to study the grin spread over Kaidan’s face as he tracked the ship up into the sky. He really hadn’t ever think he’d see the old Normandy flying again. He hadn’t expected anything like this, wouldn’t have believed it, but here he was: Kaidan holding his hand as he learned to fly again.

N7 Month Day 5: Elcor
(AO3 Link - Shepard and Garrus get a cultural education.)
Days after Shepard's discharge from the hospital, Garrus walked into their living room to find a couple of elcor wearing… odd outfits on the vidscreen. After watching for a moment, he asked, "What is this?"
"Elcor Hamlet. It's 12 hours long, and I figure if I'm going to be stuck on this couch all day every day, I might as well finally take the plunge." Shepard adjusted her blanket and patted the couch next to her. "Come on, it's kind of fascinating."
"Suspicious: Something is rotten in the state of Denmark."
He took the invitation and sat down, quickly becoming hypnotized by the low, droning voices (which his translator was rendering in a turian dialect that hadn't been spoken in centuries) and the way the elcor slowly ambled back and forth on the stage to punctuate their words. "Huh."
The next time Garrus checked his omni-tool, he was startled to find that an hour had passed, and he shook his head and stood up. "Sorry, I need to go back to work."
"Suit yourself," Shepard said with a smirk, her eyes never leaving the screen.

🎮 Mᴀss Eғғᴇᴄᴛ Aɴᴅʀᴏᴍᴇᴅᴀ ℹ️ PʟᴀʏSᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ 4 | Lɪɢʜᴛʀᴏᴏᴍ
.
Liam: "Did we really let a Krogan take up residence in our kitchen?”
Vetra: "You say that because you haven't tasted his specialties yet! Do you know what else a Krogan with 1000 years of experience can do? To cook!"
PeeBee: "If he promises not to make me wash the dishes, I'm more than okay with it!"
Drack: "Now shut up you three, and let me prepare the meal! Don't you have anything else to do? Shoo! Get out of my kitchen!"
Jaal: "I'm really curious to try this _pijak_ stew, is that why you keep that animal on the Tempest, Ryder?”
Ryder: "Haha, no. It's not real pijak in the stew, it's just a name. Right Drack? RIGHT?"
Cora: "To be safe, I prefer to continue eating military pre-cooked meals, no offense Drack."
Drack: "I'll be more offended if you don't get out. GET OUT OF MY KITCHEN! OUT!! NOW!!!"

N7 Month - Day 2 - Tension
Tumblr media
N7 Month Challenge 2023
Prompt List - @n7month
The moment I saw this theme name, I immediately thought of the tension parts of mass effect 2 where you have to break off arguments with several of the crew members or else you lose their trust & loyalty. The one with Legion and Tali stuck with me the most, so I wanted to portray that! This is also my first time drawing them both so. sweats. i didnt plan to put as much effort into this as i did but here we are <3

N7 Month, 2023 - Day 8: Crash
It's a little mshenko pre-relationship drabble.
++
“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe you actually did it.” Kaidan’s tone was ambiguous to Shepard’s ear, and he tried not to imagine either mockery or genuine pathos in it.
“Sometimes I can hardly believe the things I do myself,” Shepard responded, bitter though still in Command. The two marines stood, fully armored but without helmets, on the barren expanse of an alien world—grasslands as far as the eye could see. Before them, at the base of a massive grassy mound, the Mako was lying upside down, one of its wheels still idly spinning as the mass effect field generators tried in vain to right the vehicle.
It wasn’t Shepard’s fault, not really, and he would swear it up and down. After all, it wasn’t the first time the damn thing had flipped on the rough terrain of a distant world. The fact that it always righted itself—at great strain to the field generators—had sort of given everyone the impression that truly crashing the Mako would be impossible.
“And yet, here we are…” Shepard muttered under his breath.
“Hm, Commander?”
“Nothing, Kaidan. Can we… let’s just try one more time, huh?” Shepard began to glow blue.
“Shouldn’t we wait for Wrex?” Kaidan glowed sympathetically, stiffening his posture, apparently expecting not to wait. And, honestly, Wrex had climbed out of the crash and proceeded to track off over the hills to find a quiet place to relieve himself—that had been 30 minutes ago.
“Afraid the two of us aren’t enough to do ourselves, Lieutenant?” Shepard grinned slyly at Alenko, the other man’s mouth twitched just barely into a smile.
“You know what they say about trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results…”
With that, they both tried their best to surround the Mako with a mass lowering field, hoping to give the Mako’s own field generator’s a little help.
The thing rocked back and forth, even animatedly for a moment, but they couldn’t get it to flip back onto its wheel.s
“Alright,” Shepard sighed, powering down his biotics. “Get Joker on radio, tell him we need him to find a place to land close to our position, then we’ll need a detail out here to get this thing flipped.”
“On it, Commander.” Kaidan walked off a few paces to make the call, and Shepard tried not to listen it. “…yeah. ….completely upside down… …trust me, we’ve tried…”
Shepard kneeled down and felt the grass, or rather, didn’t feel it through his gauntlets, but it seemed like it must be soft. He sat down and watched the clouds drift by overhead—something denser than earth clouds… Before long, he had laid his head back in the grass, stretched out at the base of the hill.
He lost track of time staring up before he noticed Kaidan returning.
“Joker’s ETA is 42 minutes to have us out of here.”
“Might as well take a load off. Have a seat, Alenko.”
Kaidan opened his mouth as if to say something, but then merely shrugged and lowered himself to the grass beside Shepard. They passed a long moment like that.
“Funny, we visit all these planets and I feel like I never just stop to breathe in the… air, or whatever. To take in the sights. It’s beautiful here. Probably no human eyes have ever seen it before.”
Shepard turned his head, examined the lines on Kaidan’s face as he wistfully stared out at the countryside below them.
“Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing we crashed,” Shepard said, his tone thicker with the intimacy of the moment than he had wished. The laugh lines appeared around Kaidan’s eyes and his cheeks dimpled when he smiled wide.
“That’s what I admire about you, Shepard, always seeing the bright side of things.”
“Not always,” Shepard replied softly. He continued to study Kaidan’s face, the way he leaned back on his elbows, the way the alien wind played in his hair. “I just think I’m lucky, that’s all.”
“Well, I’m happy to be out here with you, then.” For a moment Kaidan turned that warm smile on Shepard, and he felt himself beaming in response.
“Likewise, Kaidan.”
