if you wanna listen to naddpod you should know this about the hosts: brian murphy is a straightman to his inner most core and he's the funniest person alive, these things exist simultaneously and would not exist without the other. emily axford is clinically insane to a point where it's easier to not try to follow her logic when she says things. jake hurwitz is a certified cool guy but he's the biggest loser in a room of nerds playing dungeons and dragons. caldwell tanner can only be described as exactly what a 1930's cartoon describes as a rascal. three of them are a throuple and the fourth is their boss.
A new episode of Game Changers is out now on Dropout!
Join Sam Reich as he invites Caldwell Tanner, Kiana Mai, and Nathan Yaffe to put their art skills to test with his brilliant ideas. Featuring special guests Brennan Lee Mulligan and Sarah Natochenny!
everything about Caldwell Tanner's presence on naddpod makes you forget he is a man with an incredibly chiseled chin and jawline. his main campaign characters are 1) a teenage halfling boyscout with braces 2) a tired and scrawny elf who likes licking mysterious substances and 3) a frog. he's silly and does dubious intro rhymes (turdis) and can sing in a haunting boy voice and then every time i see a picture of this guy i'm like. damn. that's a clark kent bone structure.
Murph, mid thought: --it's like, you can keep the stakes up without…
Caldwell: M-hm?
Murph: … are you coming up with a new?
[Everyone else laughs.]
Murph: E--Emily's face was right up against the mic. Smirking?
Caldwell: Are you--
Emily: (defensive) I wasn't gonna say anything!
Murph: I guess came up with a new spell?
Caldwell: You gotta say it now!
Murph: Well what do you-- how are we supposed to look at you and not respond?
[Emily groans.]
Jake: Say it.
Murph: What was your new spell?
Emily: I turned Geas into peas.
[The others laugh.]
Murph: (laughing) You turned… Geas… into peas.
[Emily laughs.]
Caldwell: That's so good. Every time you disobey, peas come out of your mouth.
Murph: Peas come out of your mouth when you-- when you say the wrong--
Emily: (defensive) I wasn't planning on sharing!
Murph: (laughing) Okay.
[Jake laughs.]
Emily: Murph called me out!
Murph: This is a show! You have to share! [Emily and Caldwell laugh] By definition! It's a show, you have to show!
Caldwell: See--
[Emily continues laughing as they talk.]
Murph: You have to show your thoughts! You have to participate! You can't just quietly think of three cases ago, and come up with fun things in your own head! Then smile at them while not commenting while the rest of us speak!
Caldwell: Yeah, Emily, we're always thinking Fred Flintstone and his delicious cereal!
Murph: Yeah, always.
Caldwell: But we're not interjecting constantly with that!
Murph: Yeah.
Caldwell: Only every fourth or fifth case!
Fucking incredible episode of Game Changer tonight. Love the artist crew coming through with some fun cameos thrown in. The tramp stamps. Brennen Lee Mulligan appearance. Really good stuff. Love Caldwell, Kiana and Nathan. As a huge fan of Naddpod (on which Nathan has been a guest several times) and Drawfee (on which Kiana has appeared as a guest) this was really great.
Really this episode has Caldwell at its nucleus because he worked at CollegeHumor, started Drawfee with Nathan, is a PC on Naddpod and worked with Kiana as a storyboard artist on Big City Greens.
People referring to Caldwell as the NADDPod guy makes me feel a million years old. Circa 2015 my at the time best friend got very into early Drawfee and I started watching it because them. I’m a NADDPole now but in my mind Caldwell will forever be the guy who drew Pokémon from memory.
Pencils Down was such a fun episode of Game Changer, I just HAD to try some of the drawing challenges out! For each prompt, I set up whatever background I was drawing on, and then set a timer for 3 minutes and drew like the wind. I’m adding blank versions of each “canvas” at the end, so anyone who wants to can participate as well!
LP Artistry (design and title a vinyl album cover for Sam): I was so happy to find this picture of Sam. I immediately knew I was going to make him a cheeky baby, basically the same exact energy he has as a gameshow host
Tramp Stamps (think early 2000s and permanent regrets): When I think 2000s I think of tamagotchi, Nickelodeon, and classic commercials like the Quiznos rat-filled fever dream. Plus I can never pass up a good double entendre
The Next Big Thing (pitch your best get-rich-quick idea): Hello, sharks. Aren’t you tired of reservedly nibbling your pasta for fear of staining your shirt? Well no more! Slurp safely and to your heart’s content with the Spa-guard-i ™️! The super easy, dinner plate-sized fork attachment that slides easily over any fork and shields your clothes from errant sauce splatters. Twirl your spaghetti without fear, with the Spa-guard-i™️!
New Pokémon (design, name, and describe one power of a new Pokémon): Introducing Snide, a nosey little guy who’s not overly popular in social settings. Watch out for his physic attack, Passive-Aggression!
Last-Minute Monster (the Dimension 20 needs a finale-worthy Big Bad and fast): For this one I used a fantasy villain name generator and got Duke Church. Following Brennan’s criteria of terrifying, emotionally resonant, and mechanically interesting, I concocted a monster who will appear toxically masculine, but in fact be uncomfortably submissive & masochistic. Duke Church is incredibly tone-deaf (terrifying), indicative of the dangers of enforcing a gender-binary (emotionally resonant), and he can’t be defeated with damage as that only makes him stronger/hornier (mechanically interesting)
This was so incredibly fun to do, I hope they do more Game Changer episodes like this in the future. Here are the blanks so you can play along yourself! 😊
i love the state of bev when he meets up with his friends at the end of the hellfire chronicles. like hey guys what’s up. god is dead and jesus kidnapped my boyfriend. im in the ruins of my hometown surrounded by corpses. i knitted that big turtle some kelp gloves. this horse is so mad at me.
