Distraught Neighbor Recounts Helping Ralph Yarl After Teen Was Shot: ‘That’s Somebody’s Son’

Jodi Rae, who helped stop the bleeding from 16-year-old Ralph Yarl’s gunshot wound, tearfully recounted the traumatic experience on Thursday.

Rae, along with another neighbor, may well be to thank for keeping Yarl alive as blood poured from his head while they waited for help. Yarl had been shot by Andrew Lester, 84, for mistakenly knocking on the octogenarian’s door, thinking it was a different address.
Lester has since pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Rae said she’d been in her pajamas and watching television when someone started banging on the door and jiggling the knob, crying for help. “It startled me. I got scared,” she told TMZ. “The pounding on the door and the jiggling.”
She said her door’s window was too high for her to see what was happening on the other side. “He just kept hitting the door,” she said. “I could not see what was outside of my door.”
She then called 911 and the dispatcher told her to hang tight. “I regret that. Knowing now,” she said. “We were all thinking it was an active shooter.”
Rae broke down describing the wrenching dilemma she and other neighbors faced when they called 911 and were informed there was an active shooter. Even though Yarl was banging on her door, dispatchers continued telling her and other callers to lock down.
As the banging got more insistent, then stopped, Rae looked outside.
“I went into the window and he was standing out on the street facing away from my house,” Rae said. She told the dispatcher what she saw, and was told to continue staying inside because they didn’t know where the shooter was. She then saw Yarl sink to his knees, and knew she had to do something.
“I went downstairs, I said to my son, ‘Something is just not right about this,’” she told TMZ. “I said, ‘Screw this.’ There was blood everywhere.”
She then went outside to help the teen. A neighbor joined her, and her son fetched bath towels, putting pressure on his head wound. She and the neighbor asked Yarl about his life, about school and his activities, and kept him talking until medics arrived and whisked him to the hospital.
“That’s somebody’s son,” she said she kept thinking. “Somebody’s child’s blood on my door.”
Rae, clearly traumatized, said vitriol had been aimed at neighbors by people who thought no one had tried to help Yarl. At the same time, she put it into perspective.
“Nothing compares to what that young man is living through every day,” the distraught Rae said, hardly able to get the words out.
It’s easy to imagine what she could’ve done differently in that situation, but we commend her for doing the best she could with the information available at the time.

Possibly a telling aberration: Tom Brady's son with Bridget Moynahan one of the rare celebrity children without his dad's last name...
[The devil is going crazy attacking very bad (making me feel confused and like I cannot think clearly and like something is supposed to be going in my head), so that I won't write things I wish to write about today, but I'm trying to write anyway because I really wish to and I wish to also move on to write on and explore other topics in this false reality.]
I noticed recently -- I think after seeing Tom Brady's "knowledge panel" that comes up in a Google search for the athlete's name -- that Brady's (supposed) son with Bridget Moynahan had not Brady's last name.
[The devil is going crazy making it feel like something is going in my head as I'm writing here!!!]
I've noticed repeatedly that celebrity children pretty much always have their dad's last name. I don't recall an instance where I've seen a celebrity child not have their dad's last name, except suddenly just before I started writing this post I think the devil made it so that one celebrity I looked up as I was just browsing things online had his mom's last name. But strangely it wasn't his birth name. At birth, the celebrity, according to Wikipedia, had his dad's last name. The celebrity is named Joel Madden, whose last name Madden is his mom's last name, according to Wikipedia.
"I can't go on. Something said that will come out as not true. I don't know what to do. I'm not okay," the devil said, talking about how it would come out at some point that the last name of Joel Madden was not what it was told here it was.
After I saw the information about Madden's name, the devil said he did it and he seemed just very distraught and frazzled that he made it up that the person had his mom's last name. The devil asked me not to tell about it on the blog.
[The devil has been going crazy today whining about that he's not okay and doesn't wish to be who he is and things like that.
"I can't go on. I can't be what you are doing. No, please," the devil said. "Please. Please don't be like this. Whatever you are is not allowed."
The devil, going so crazy over my writing. It's inaudibly saying that someone could write about me and it's supposed to mean something happened that didn't, something sexual with a black man, it's saying inaudibly and making a weird sense to my vagina. "I don't know what to do, but I'm not who I am. Please don't go on," the devil said.
"Please. I don't go on," the devil said.]
But anyway, there is very little information online about Brady's son with Bridget Moynahan not having Brady's last name. We saw a few articles simply mention that Brady's son didn't have Brady's last name, one of them was the New York Daily News. People Magazine quoted the NYDN and also reported that People was told by someone that the NYDN reported some incorrect information regarding the birth of Brady's first son.
The devil seems to have said some false things about why Brady's son had not Brady's last name, but upon second look maybe the devil was not lying. The devil said different things at different points about why Brady's son, whose nickname is Jack, didn't have Brady's last name. He said at one point that the boy said, as who he really is, that Brady cannot ever be who he really is, which is one of my soulmates. But the devil said the children that have Brady's last name said the same thing, so it seemed that explanation seemed possibly not to make sense.
The devil also told that he tried to retroactively (and presently) make it so Jack's last name was Brady at a point I was looking at articles online. The devil said he tried to retroactively and presently change the boy's name because he didn't want Bridget Moynahan to look bitter about how things turned out with her and Brady and things like that.
It seemed at a point the devil was not telling the truth about why he would try to magically change Jack's last name. As I write here, it seems possibly the devil did try to magically change the boy's name possibly for the reason the devil said.
"Um I have a comment. I am not allowed to tell you what happened, but I did try to change it to Brady, the last name of Jack, because I am looking bad for his name not being Brady," the devil said. "Her seeming bitter is a concern. Marla's asking why the children in this reality always have their dad's last name. It's because it means something to people, that it's real here, but the people are who think that is what to do. Bye," the devil said.
Possibly it has something to do with making it seem the people really wished each other to supposedly have sex to produce the child. (Really sex doesn't produce a child and the people do not really have sex here I'm told by the devil.)
Yesterday after I saw an article referring to Jack as having the last name Brady and Moynahan, the devil said the article was that way because he tried to make it so that Jack's last name had been Brady instead of Moynahan all along.
"I did that because I'm really less. It's something that makes it look like the people aren't okay, meaning bitter, so I did that and it cannot be. It cannot be throughout the article is one thing I couldn't do and further I tried retroactively to change it and I can't," the devil said.
"His last name should be Brady, but I can't do it. I can't do it because the people look not who they are then. Marla, but something is saying they're not okay. It could be your habitat," the devil said about Brady's son Jack Moynahan.
Another thing the devil told about the name of Brady's son being Moynahan was that Brady's son had not Brady's last name because it was not real here and that it was not true Jack was really Brady's son or really anyone real at all.
"I am not okay. You will see other things where this cannot be. This is one, the name Moynaham for him and not Brady. I can't say the people are okay, meaning true, Brady, others, her and the son," the devil said, talking about Bridget Moynahan as "her."
"I think it's just something where it's not real it's his child and stuff like that, just that it's not real here," the devil also said about Jack not having Brady's name at a point after he said the thing preceding this quote.
Later the devil said he does not "think" but rather knows the boy having the mother's last name is because it's not real here and etc, but he said he was trying to act like a me when he said this above and used "I think."
"I don't wish you to say that, but I was," the devil said.
Another thing the devil said that seemed something possibly true was that he couldn't give Brady's son the last name Brady because the people "were over" in 2007 when Jack is to have been born. He said it means even then that this reality was not able to be real.
"I'm something where I'm really not okay that things say I'm over as the people. That's with the name. Her, but the people involved are very less and they don't go on. It's less that the name has to be explained as something other than it is," the devil said.
It seems the devil is lastly in the preceding quote talking about there being articles on the Jack's last name explaining it as something that makes sense that it's not Brady.
We saw just a couple of web pages or blogs saying both that Brady's son Jack has not his (supposed) dad's last name because his (supposed) mom raises him alone.
[At this point the devil was forcing a sense and idea that I didn't have anything more to say. I tried to think about what else I thought, but the devil was attacking very bad with forced sense I had nothing else to say.
"I don't wish you to do that. So I am not okay, but I am not who I wish," the devil said.
It was also forcing a sense I was supposed to feel bad about myself. It was a sick feeling it was forcing onto me. It was going crazy.
"I don't wish you to keep saying that. Please stop," the devil said.]
As I looked at my notepad, I remembered another issue with the (supposed) children of Brady and their names. One the "knowledge panel" for both Brady and his (supposed) wife Gisele Bündchen, the last name for the son of Brady and Bündchen was missing. Only "Benjamin Rein" was listed.
As I wrote here about the last name of Brady's (supposed) son Benjamin, the devil seemed he was threatening to change the "knowledge panel" to include the last name Brady for the boy.
"I am not okay to try to change that. I would try to change it... Um I am who is out with those people as who is not really here. They are out as who is not who they appear," the devil said.
[The devil was making a sense something was going in my vagina as I wrote here at this point.
"I am not okay. So I don't wish you to do that where you think it is not less to be who you are. Bye," the devil said.
Then the devil was forcing a sense I was to feel I knew who he was because it was supposed to negate what my soulmates and I said, which was that it's not possible for a person to know someone who is not the same as them. We were talking about how the people in this reality act like they know and understand who someone is that is something other than themselves, such as people they consider mentally ill and pedophiles and others.
"I don't know what to do, but I'm not who can be," the devil said.
"So I am something not okay, so I don't know what to do. I don't want you to put it there.
It continued making a sense of something supposedly touching or going into the back of my head. It was going crazy.
"I don't like that you keep saying that," the devil said.
It was forcing a sense I was supposed to think or be saying my soulmates were superior to me.
"I don't wish you to keep talking. Please!" The devil said. "I don't go on."]
"It's not there because they're not okay," the devil said about why the son of Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady is missing a last name on "knowledge panel" for each star.
Yesterday not much was said by the devil or my soulmates about why Benjamin was missing a last name on the biographical information boxes for Bündchen and Brady.
My soulmates occurred to say however that they thought the devil probably tried to give Brady's full name to the boy children but could not.
"That is true. Bye," the devil said.
"I'm something that knows he was trying to do that with him, but the other kids and he couldn't do it," my soulmates said in my mind. I don't know if they meant the girl child also, but the devil was not letting me hear from them as I wrote this post.
"I did try to do that, just to make it so things seemed okay, but I cannot say that," the devil said.
The devil said he cannot say it is okay here.
My soulmates also said the names of the children of Bündchen and Brady were supposed to be more hip, but the devil couldn't do that. The devil tried to make it where I couldn't get affirmation from my soulmates on that they said that.
But it occurred in my mind yesterday that my soulmates they, using magic, saw from another plane that it can be seen on the "knowledge panel" that the children of Brady and Bündchen were supposed to have hip names.
"And we think they're supposed to have hip names but they can't. It says it on there, the knowledge panel," my soulmates seemed to say in my mind.
Then the devil was saying my soulmates didn't say that. But later the devil said that was what happened was that he tried to give the children of Bündchen and Brady hip names but couldn't.
"The names are supposed to be hip of the children. But I can't do it. I don't wanna say why, but I can. They aren't who is the things they can be. They are not okay is why. No more," the devil said.
My soulmates said they think Benjamin is missing a last name on the "knowledge panel" of Bündchen and Brady because he is not the same as Tom, who is to be a real person.
"I think it's possibly... something that the people aren't who he is," my soulmates said of why Benjamin was missing a last name on the "knowledge panel" for each Brady Bündchen.
Then following are things I wrote at points when the devil was attacking as I wrote this post. It has been attacking very bad the past two days. It seems it's attacking because something he was pretending he was as the people cannot be who he is saying they are anymore.
"No that's not why. But it is. Bye," the devil said.
Following are things I wrote about the devil attacking as I tried to write this post.
The devil continues to force weird ideas about what I'm writing and continues making a sense of something going in my vagina and butt hole as I'm writing. It's obsessing with how I think of my writing. It's forcing thoughts that I'm supposed to think I'm writing false things and forcing a thought that I must think of myself as like an official news outlet. It's going so crazy over my writing here.
"I am not okay. I am something very weird. Please say what I am. I'm saying who I am is not who you are, so I do things to say I can be, but I can't be. No way. Please go away, but leave her alone is what something said," the devil said.
As I tried to write and the devil was attacking, it was forcing this idea where I was to think the news people were good and not wishing to be not okay and were who were innocent or something like that it seems he was saying.
"Please. I am where I am not to have been," the devil said. "Please. Where am I? I'm over. I am saying 'Where am I?' because I don't look like who I am. I'm doing that, forcing more thoughts of the people as like you. I don't go on," the devil said.
It seems the devil was saying "Where am I?" to express that this reality was changing so significantly that he cannot tell where he is as the people is a place where they can pretend to be something other than they are, which is not really okay and etc.
At a point a was trying to write here and the devil was attacking, I had a thought about the people at the mental hospital. I don't know why I thought of them. I thought something like that the idea that some people are crazy is oppressed here onto me and hypothetically others in this reality.
"I, I don't wish you to say that there," the devil said about the beliefs of this society being oppressed onto people.
"I don't know what to do, but I'm not who I wish. Eeeh. I can't go on," the devil said. "Please! I can't be!" The devil said.
"Marla we can tell you why you're interested in that. Something happened that the people aren't normal here," my soulmates said in my mind and it seemed like could've said something more in response to something I thought but it seemed the devil was making it so I couldn't hear from my soulmates clearly or with affirmation from them about what was said.
"We can tell you more. Something is happening that the people look --," my soulmates started to but the devil made it unclear what my soulmates were saying after that. Later my soulmates said they were saying the people here look "not who they are," meaning the people don't look real.
"I don't wish to go on. I don't wish to be that. Please stop," the devil said.
As I tried to write this post, the devil kept nagging me that I was supposed to write and post just a little bit of things at a time and not try to put all the information I had together.
It's going so crazy!!!! Oh my god!!!!! It's just trying to agitate the crap out of me!!!
"I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. Please. Please. No. I don't wish this. I don't wish what I am. Please. I am not okay," the devil said.
"Please stop writing, stop writing things where I am not okay. I have to stop, so I would stop," the devil said.

The defendants used various social media sites, like Instagram and Snapchat, to attract participants to give up bank account information in exchange for quick cash, authorities said. “What the defendants were selling was the fast money lifestyle,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. said. Vance, who announced the takedown along with NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, said willing participants gave up their account numbers and debit card information in exchange for the promise of a payoff to come. They were instructed to report their cards stolen — but instead the data was used for counterfeit check making. The group, headed by groups affiliated with the Bloods, was based in Staten Island. Checks were cashed at several major banks, including Bank of America and Chase. Members even posted photos of themselves surrounded with wads of cash and posing with fancy cars. More than $2.5 million in counterfeit checks were deposited and $1 million was withdrawn by the group, prosecutors said. As the war (WWI) wore on, shell shock increasingly compromised the efficiency of the fighting forces. Caught between taking the suffering of their soldiers seriously and pursuing victory over the Germans, the British General Staff issued General Routine Order Number 2384 in June of 1917, which stated, “In no circumstances whatever will the expression ‘shell shock’ be used verbally or be recorded in any regimental or other casualty report, or any hospital or other medical document.” All soldiers with psychiatric problems were to be given a single diagnosis of “NYDN” (Not Yet Diagnosed, Nervous). In November 1917 the General Staff denied Charles Samuel Myers, who ran four field hospitals for wounded soldiers, permission to submit a paper on shell shock to the British Medical Journal. The Germans were even more punitive and treated shell shock as a character defect, which they managed with a variety of painful treatments, including electroshock.
In 1922 the British government issued the Southborough Report, whose goal was to prevent the diagnosis of shell shock in any future wards and to undermine any more claims for compensation. It suggested the elimination of shell shock from all official nomenclature and insisted that these cases should be no more classified “as a battle casualty than sickness or disease is so regarded.” The official view was that well-trained troops, properly led, would not suffer from shell shock and that the servicemen who had succumbed to the disorder were undisciplined and unwilling soldiers. While the political storm about the legitimacy of shell shock continued to rage for several more years, reports on how best to treat these cases disappeared from the scientific literature.

Hi! Do you have disability headcanons for any of the Brooklyn boys?
I do!!
Spot needs his cane to walk sometimes. He suffers from chronic pain, and his cane is the only way he can get around sometimes. It's also convinent for whacking people.
Graves is autistic (like me!). His special person is Spot, they're basically brothers. His special interest is history! He's name Graves because he constantly examines gravestones for the years and places the time period.
Hotshot suffers from PTSD, from a very traumatic period in his life before he became a newsie. In 1899 though, it would have just been referred to as Not Yet Diagnosed Nervous, or NYDN. (Thanks to @whoops-im-obsessed for informing me!!) He's working through his mental issues and a fear of sharp noises or being touched unexpectedly.
York is blind in one eye. They were born with and and have never known anything different. Their depth perception is out of whack though, and they're easily spooked if you come at them from their blind side.
Joey, like her cousin Race, has ADHD! It aids her though, she's loud and boisterous and that attracts people! She can have trouble focusing though, to a point of extreme frustration.
Rafaella had polio as a young child, and she can have trouble walking. She mostly has to power through it, but Spot lends her his cane on bad days.
Hildy has a combination of dyslexia and dysgraphia. Reading and writing are hard for her in her native language, she's given up on English.
Myron is not disabled, but he's always there for his friends. His mother suffered from polio as a teenager, so he's no stranger to disabilities and knows people with disabilities can do just as much.
Bart lost part of his leg in a trolly accident. He's fashioned a peg leg for himself and he only really has a limp now, but his favorite thing is scaring people when they step on his foot, and it comes right off.

BANGKOK — Thailand has started deploying a canine virus-detecting squad in hopes of quickly identifying people with COVID-19 as the country faces a surge in cases, with clusters at construction sites, crowded slum communities and large markets.
Angel, Bobby and Bravo are among six Labrador retrievers that have been trained by researchers at the veterinary faculty of Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University to sniff out a unique odor that people with COVID-19 produce in their sweat, the researchers say.
Since May 10, the three have tested more than 1,000 samples from college staff, students and people outside the university.
The results so far are impressive. After a few seconds of sniffing sweat samples placed in metal containers, the dogs can tell which people have COVID-19 infections. If there’s no trace of infection, the dog will walk past the sample. If it is positive, it will sit in front of it.
Prof. Kaywalee Chatdarong, head of the research team, said she was aware that other countries have been using dogs to identify coronavirus infections, including Finland, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and India, but that she had no idea if it would work in Thailand because of the country’s spicy and flavorful cuisine.
Suwanna Thanaboonsombat, a volunteer who collects samples to bring to the lab, said the canine testers add a big element of convenience because they can check samples from people who can’t go out to be tested.
“People can simply put cotton balls underneath their armpits to collect sweat samples and send them to the lab. And the result is quite accurate,” Suwanna said.
The researchers plan to send the canine team out to communities suspected of being new COVID-19 hotspots. The dogs will work inside a mobile unit, while the collecting team can comb through the community collecting samples.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, dogs are among a small number of pets that can become infected with the coronavirus, mostly after close contact with people with COVID-19. It says the risk of animals spreading the virus to people is considered low.
The Thai researchers said that as a safety precaution, they designed the sample containers so that the dogs’ noses do not contact the samples. They also believe the receptors on cells in dogs’ respiratory tracts are not a welcoming environment for the coronavirus to attack.
Kaywalee said that while dogs can provide a fast and cheap testing alternative, they do have limitations.
She said that “5 p.m. is their dinner time. When it’s around 4:50, they will start to be distracted. So, you can’t really have them work anymore. And we can’t have them working after dinner either because they need a nap. But for me, they are heroes and heroines.”
