Neil Young & the International Harvesters - "Interstate" (Hampton Roads Coliseum, Hampton, Virginia, September 12, 1985)
We checked in on Neil last week, getting the details on his 1973 encounter with Gram Parsons. By the mid-1980s, Gram was long gone — but Neil was still out on the interstate, bringing country rock to the masses. And as the photo above shows, it was going great!
Actually, 1985 is an interesting transitional zone for Shakey (though maybe every Shakey zone is interestingly transitional when it comes down to it) — he was touring with the very down-home International Harvesters, but was writing and recording synth-pop tunes that would end up on Landing On Water.
However! Neil seems to have still had a country-ish LP running through the backroads of his mind; his new material included the awesome "Grey Riders" (officially unreleased until A Treasure) and the even more awesome "Interstate" — the latter of which Jimmy McDonough called "one of the loneliest songs Young's ever written." Which is saying something!
Anyway, "Interstate" is a magnificent deep cut. The ghostly Ragged Glory rendition is now more readily available on the recent Official Release Series set, but the OG International Harvesters version remains generally under the radar. Neil and co. played it nine times in 1985; this Hampton, VA, performance is particularly windswept and forlorn — though I'll have to admit I wish Neil was playing electric here. It could be contender for the "Cortez" throne with Old Black in the mix.
Will a 1985 "Interstate" be on Archives, vol. 3?! Time will tell. But in the meantime, Neil has been revealing some enticing specifics about that ginormous set, now due in the summer of '24 ... read it and weep!

Guy Pearce in Ravenous (Antonia Bird, 1999)
Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, David Arquette, Jeffrey Jones, Jeremy Davies, John Spencer, Stephen Spinella, Neal McDonough, Joseph Runningfox, Sheila Tousey, Bill Brochtrup. Screenplay: Ted Griffin. Cinematography: Anthony B. Richmond. Production design: Bryce Perrin. Film editing: Neil Farrell. Music: Michael Nyman, Damon Albarn.
When the only thing critics can agree on is that your movie has a distinguished music score, you kind of have to admit that the film's a botch. Ravenous is an interesting botch, however: a horror Western about cannibalism, a topic that tantalizes anyone who has ever heard the story of the Donner Party. It has a strong cast, filled with actors who are gifted at playing baddies and weirdos, like Robert Carlyle, Jeremy Davies, and Neal McDonough. The cannibalism in the film is based on the Algonquian legend of the wendigo, an evil spirit that possesses humans and turns them into killers with a desire for human flesh. Yet the movie comes off scattered and sometimes clunky, with the grisly violence arriving without the buildup of suspense. The central character, Capt. Boyd (Guy Pearce), is given a confusing backstory. During the Mexican-American war, he tasted flesh, sort of, when he was wounded, heaped in a pile of corpses, and, unable to move, swallowed the blood of one of the men stacked above him. It gave him a brief surge of strength, during which he struggled out of the pile and performed the act of heroism for which he was honored. But when the commanding officer realizes Boyd is really a coward, he punishes him with a post in an isolated fort located in the Sierra Nevada. The fort is staffed with misfits, and soon falls prey to a mysterious stranger named Colqhoun (Carlyle), who claims to be the survivor of a wagon train that got lost in the mountains and had to resort to cannibalism to survive. Colqhoun is not what he seems, of course, and the rest of the business is bloody. Some of the movie's disjointedness stems from the disagreement between the original director, Milcho Manchevski, and the producers and a subsequent conflict between his replacement, Raja Gosnell, and the cast. Finally, Antonia Bird was hired to complete the film, but even she had problems with the producers and was critical of the cut that was released. Critics generally disliked the movie, but everyone seems to have been pleased with the innovative score by Michael Nyman and Damon Alborn, which relies on instruments from the historic period in which the action takes place and echoes of hymns and patriotic anthems.

in your opinion, what are some of the worst fancasts for the RE characters that you have ever seen? I'll reveal one of mine: Jens*n A*ckles for Leon
Bro I HATEEEEE that casting so muchhhh oml. Idk I haven’t seen a lot of fan casts recently but if I had to go with stuff I’ve seen before, probably any Marvel actors (like Chris Hemsworth) playing Chris Redfield, one of like three black female actors that are mainstream playing Sheva (Zoë Kravitz, Zendaya, Zoe Saldaña) and the canon casting of Oded Fehr as Carlos in the Resident Evil movies because Fehr is Israeli and neither Latin American nor indigenous to South America. I know the movies are older but c’mon it’s just treating all brown ethnicities as interchangeable. While I’m talking canon casting I guess, I hated most of the casting in WTRC including Tom Hopper as Wesker, Neil McDonough as Birkin and Kaya Scodelario as Claire. WTRC was so hit or miss with their casting and characterizations. And Lance Reddick as Wesker in RE Netflix oy. Glad that got canceled
Sorry, got distracted there. Anyway, here’s my own fan casting

001 Legends of Tomorrow?
Thanks for the ask!! And thanks for giving me an opportunity to talk about this amazing and underrated show 💜💜
Favourite character: Ava my beloved
Least favourite character: The first one that comes to mind is Bishop, because I hate everything he did to Ava, but in terms of main characters, I don't really like the hawk people from series one. They were pretty bland.
5 favourite ships: Avalance, obviously, Steelhacker is great, and Darhkatom too. Those are my main three, but I guess I also liked John with Desmond, and Gwyn was really cute with Alun.
Character I find most attractive: I wonder..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Character I would marry: Ava again lol
Character I would be best friends with: Probably Sara, but I also feel like I would befriend Nate, Zari 1, Ray, Mona, Gary and Spooner.
A random thought: Ava's imposter syndrome about being a clone was such a good choice for her character and definitely could've been explored more! That's why I loved s4e4, because Ava finally got to experience what being a child is like with Sara 😭😭
An unpopular opinion: I really like s4's main storyline and finale. I know most people hate the finale but I found it really moving, and exploring Nate's relationship with his dad was a great focus and it really made me feel closer to Nate as a character. The finale may be a bit muddled but it is definitely not the worst. I just feel like it gets unnecessary hate.
My canon OTP: Avalance obviously
My non canon OTP: I've noticed that I don't tend to ship non canon ships, but I guess Esperastra seems the most plausible (in a purely romantic sense ofc.)
Most badass character: You can't make me choose between Sara and Ava.
Most epic villain: The Darhks by far. Not only were they genuinely scary and threatening, they consistently made me laugh and somehow also managed a plausible redemption arc. Props to Neil Mcdonough and Courtney Ford for their god tier acting.
Pairing I am not a fan of: John and Zari 2 by far. I don't know what on earth the writers were thinking, they have literally zero chemistry and nothing in common. I mean, I also don't like Behrastra, and Gary with Gideon seemed weird, but at least they were somewhat plausible. Any time John and Zari had a moment I wanted to fast forward or just turn off the show. Zari deserves a million times better.
Character I feel the writers screwed up: John, but only after he started dating Zari 2. I just feel like he got more unlikeable every episode, until it got to the point I was glad he left. Also Spooner, because they had her come out as ace in the second to last episode of s7 and then immediately cancelled the show. The fact that we only got two episodes of ace Spooner is a crime.
Favourite friendship: I'm partial to book club, but other highlights include Nate and Ray, Ava and Zari 2, and Spooner and Astra. It's a found family show gosh darn it, so pretty much all of them are great.
Character I most identify with: Ava again. So many autistic traits, and the relatability is off the charts.
Character I wish I could be: Sara. The best captain ever, I wish I was half as confident as her.
Okay now everyone go watch this show, it's crazy in the best way possible 👌

Price: [price_with_discount] (as of [price_update_date] - Details) [ad_1] 36 Disturbing True Crime Stories of Murder and Deception Readers Love This Series - Over 7,000 Five-Star Ratings on Amazon & Goodreads Three Book Collection: Volumes 7, 8, and 9 of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2022) *** This series can be read in any order ***If you’re a fan of true crime, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the big-name cases: Ted Bundy, BTK, David Berkowitz, Christopher Watts, Diane Downs, Casey Anthony, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jodi Arias, Ed Gein, etc. The list of well-known, notorious cases throughout history is seemingly endless. Books, websites, podcasts, streaming television series, and magazines are filled with their abhorrent tales of mayhem. They’re some of the most foul killers the world has ever known. In my books, I do my best to find stories you may not have heard of. To do this, I count on my readers to send me stories that may have gone forgotten and aren't found all over the internet. Inside, you'll find 36 True Crime stories from the 100 years. Many of which you may never have heard of. You'll read the story of five-year-old Stephanie Hebert, who walked only three houses down her quiet suburban sidewalk and disappeared forever. Her case went cold for forty years before other children from her neighborhood came forward in their adulthood with information leading to the killer. There’s the story of the sadistic mother who viewed her children only as the spawn of their demon father, torturing them for their entire short lives. You’ll also read of the deranged husband and wife team who started their own cult and made it their life’s mission to rid the world of witches. Another story tells the disheartening tale of a toddler’s skeleton found in a suitcase on the side of the road. Motorcyclists discovered her mother’s skeleton more than 600 miles away. Five years had passed, with no one even realizing they were missing. There’s also the heartbreaking story of a single mom, drowning in debt, who did the unthinkable for insurance money. Many of the stories in this book feature women killers, three of whom took the time to meticulously dismember their victims—a task that can take great strength. Another woman manipulated her two teenage boys into killing for her. Plus many more disturbing stories. The stories in this volume are shocking and exhibit human behavior at its absolute worst. Pure evil. However, these things really happen in the world. We may never understand what goes on in a killer’s mind, but at least we can be better informed. Included in this volume: Stephen McDaniel, Lauren Giddings, Leonard Tyburksi, Dorothy Tyburksi, Cheryl Knuckle, Greg Rowe, Ellen Boehm, Bevan Spencer von Einem, Alan Barnes, Neil Muir, Peter Stogneff, Richard Kelvin, Omaima Nelson, Betty Freiberg, Kimberly Hricko, Steven Hricko, Hilma Marie Witte, Sky McDonough, Leanna Walker, Carol Carlson, Daniel Carlson, Gerard John Schaefer, Evans Ganthier, Rebecca Koster, Gary Vintner, Mikhail Drachev, Chris Andrews, Dennis Tsoukanov, Sean Southland, Konstantin Simberg, Jason Massey, Brian King, Christina Benjamin, Sheila Keen, Debbie Warren, Michael Warren, Marlene Ahrens, Charles Albright, Travis Lewis, Martha McKay, Grant Amato, Cody Amato, Chad Amato, Margaret Amato, Robert Willy Pickton, Marty Dill, Heather Teague, Joe Ball, Jared Chance, Ashley Young, Theresa Knorr, Robert Knorr, William Knorr, Jason Vendrick Franklin, Stephanie Hebert, John Joubert, Danny Jo Eberle, Christopher Walden, Ricky Stetson, Anna Maria Cardona, Lazaro Figueroa, Charles Schmid, Jeremy Gipson, Jessica Thornsberry, Justina Morley, Domenic Coia, Nicholas Coia, Eddie Batzig, Jason Sweeney, Angela Stoltd, Jimmy Sheaffer, Vincent Tabak, Joanna Yeates, Edmund Arne Matthews, Lisa Ann Mather, Daniel Holdom, Karlie Pearce-Stevenson, Khandalyce Pearce-Stevenson, James Carson, Michael Bear, Suzan Bear, Susan Barnes Carson From the Publisher

Welcome to my blog containing an original OC tied into an original universe with bits of deadspace thrown in. Robert Carson is owned by me and is part of the current world I've been building around my character Izzy Nova. This blog will have many triggers and dark themes so please be aware before you interact. There will be a lot of nsfw that does not revolve around sexual themes. There will be very dark topics and if you cannot handle them then please don't follow. Rules will be under the cut.
I do not claim any ownership to any images or art on this blog unless otherwise stated.
FC: Neil Mcdonough
Aesthetics and art by Nightshade.
Follow back from @thedemonicpunks
Mun does not equal muse. Mun does not condone Carson's actions.
There is no redeeming Carson. He is set in his ways and will not change. He is a zelot and drunk on power. He is rotten to his very core.
He can die but has a countless amount of backup bodies to download his consciousness into. The bodies will vary in age.
There is a lot of dark topics including but not limited to: torture, abuse, genocide, murder, brain washing, kidnapping, torture of children, forced surgical procedures, cult like behavior, worship of non god entity, religious trauma, racism, classism, xenophobia, gore, non consensual sexual acts (will be described not role played and only as story elements will not be graphic and only if discussed beforehand), forced pregnancies using eldritch materials, genetic modifications. More will be added if they come up.
Regarding sex: it will not be written in rp format. If sex is involved it will be implied. If sexual torture is mentioned it will not be written in a sexual way. It will be written to explain what will be involved. It will not be written explicitly and will not happen unless given written consent by other party.
He is rich beyond compare and will pay to control local authorities and other groups to ensure that no crimes are brought to light. News is moderately controlled by the church. Muses from a reporter background will not be able to post groundbreaking stories about what he's done. The media will censor everything about him as he pads their wallets.
He enjoys tormenting children as they are weaker than him. If this bothers you do not bring up children around him.
Don't be an asshole.
I reserve the right to stop an rp at any time for any reason. I will not rp in dms. I will not rp Carson off tumblr outside of a few trusted discord servers.
He is tied to the world I've been building and most of it is headcanon based. I can put him in new worlds but he will be tied back to his original world.
Unless otherwise specified all interactions are their own separate worlds. No timelines intersect so no two characters will know what is going on between them.
No godmodding or trying to steal my character.
If you don't like him don't write with him.

unpacking Chrome Dreams. . .
well I'm listening to the same albums for comfort and understanding in this hellish phase of life so please allow me to deviate from the usual formula of my Album of the Month posts with my completely crazy fun Chrome Dreams theory.
Tumblr media
The story goes that this album was prepared and shelved for >45 years. In the interim, its original running order was re-sequenced for official release. Which invites all kind of speculation as to why, especially when it clearly wasn't to shuffle the seconds into two neat 20-minute sides (as, we are told, maximizes sound quality). I love Neil but he still keeps pulling this album-and-a-half trick and I'm getting less enthusiastic about it with time, as it seems wasteful. But alas. Not the point of my post.
Chrome Dreams is not the only album that sat around for a few decades (although it might be the only unreleased album that got a sequel)...Neil is wont to move on to his latest creative endeavor and leave the old stuff to gather dust. Sometimes it's reportedly because the new thing is more sonically exciting (how I wait in longing for the release of Oceanside, Countryside) and other times the material is too raw to share right away (like Homegrown and Toast).
With this history in mind, with repeated iterative listens on loop under my belt, with the utmost respect for the role of happenstance in his artistry, I strung together this idea that the new running order tells a very personal story. Maybe it fell out this way, maybe it was intended. We begin at track #2.
2. Will to Love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neil's own words in Waging Heavy Peace set the scene for this track written in late 1976: lonely, imaginative, and intense. In the first movement of the Chrome Dreams saga, the protagonist is merely surviving (the wordplay on "will to live" is not lost on even casual listens). His determination is desperation, and he stokes it like a fire in the dark of night. Which brings us to...
3. Star of Bethlehem
Tumblr media
A late night at the fireplace leaves him weary and hopeless the following morning (it happens to the best of us, it seems). The song's lost verse suggested the protagonist is looking for help and meaning anywhere he could get it.
4. Like a Hurricane
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another anecdote of a composer seemingly possessed by his muse (courtesy of Jimmy McDonough's Shakey) reveals that the encounter that might have inspired "Hurricane" did not end in Neil's favor. In the Chrome Dreams chronology, this can be seen as another episode of frustration, a test of endurance for that "Will to Love."
5. Too Far Gone
Tumblr media
For this to work in my reimagining, the protagonist's attempt to "pick up on" the woman at the bar was a success, but led to nothing stable or real like he'd hoped for in his fireside lament. "Too Far Gone" is a sweet and simple track took the longest of anything on Chrome Dreams to make it to official release (1989's Freedom features a re-recording). Neil repeatedly presented this song to be about himself on his 1976 tour. It's the perspective of separation from infatuation, though the sting of lost potential love still lingers. I mean, look at this gif and tell me he isn't thinking of a very specific person...
Tumblr media
6. Hold Back the Tears
Tumblr media
The final phase of this sequence features the protagonist pep-talking himself yet again. Only now he's cataloguing his mistakes in previous affairs ("two crying fools and then four crying eyes") to compound the burden of more recent missteps. Another lost verse shows that the ghosts of his past still plague him, but he keeps going. Ultimately, what choice is there? And so the lesson of this story, intentional or accidental, real or imagined, may be that such a cycle takes courage to enter, resilience to weather, and hope to survive.

Neil Young & The Transband - Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, West Germany, October 11, 1982
Just about 40 years ago, Neil Young was in Europe supporting Trans, one of his weirdest albums with one of his weirdest tours. The beginning of a very weird decade for Neil!
"That was a depressing tour," he told Jimmy McDonough. "Started out to be such a high point, by the end I was goin' 'Oh, fuck.' I lost $750,000. It cost me seven-hundred-and-fifty grand — and we sold out every show. It was just too big. Way too big."
Musically, though? Not too bad, as this audience tape from West Germany shows. Neil had assembled a motley crew of players from various stages in his career: Ben Keith, Nils Lofgren, Bruce Palmer, Joe Lala, Ralph Molina, Larry Cragg, Joel Bernstein. Sound-wise, it's actually kind of a precursor to Promise of the Real — and not just because of the bongos. This band can kind of handle everything Neil does, from shaggy country rock to blown-out epics. The glorious spirit of Crazy Horse isn't quite there, but that's probably because of the giant stadiums they were playing.
Also, the Transband were a little out of it. "They had to be so fuckin' drunk and stoned just to walk out onstage," David Briggs complained. "I'd say to 'em, 'Man, you guys should get yourself a new fucking gig if gotta get this fucking twisted to go out in front of twenty-five thousand and be adored.'"
And how about those Trans electronic tunes? Well, they're pretty solid — but the crowd hates them. Not sure how many tapes I've heard where Neil Young gets booed, but he definitely gets booed here. What, these Dortmundians weren't Kraftwerk fans?! Come on, dudes.
One final note: a rarity here is the performance of the featherweight blues number "Soul of a Woman." Except I checked Sugar Mountain and it's not really a rarity at all — Neil played this song 162 times between 1982 and 1988. He played it with the Transband, he played it solo, he played it with the International Harvesters, he played it with the Bluenotes! But he didn't release it officially until 2011 (On the Int'l Harvesters comp A Treasure). I don't have anything valuable to say about this except: Neil Young, what a kook.
