Elite's Ivan spent some time in South Africa in S4 of Blood & Water and had fun with Puleng. 💋 🥂 🪷 🌺

(I enjoyed it for what it was, a fun fling that was mostly unproblematic and angsty especially compared to their other romantic relationships. They didn't try to make it more than it was considering Ivan's limited time at Parkhurst but they definitely found something special and appreciated in each other. Good chem too.)

Hello friends!

So, looking ahead from here...

I'm not going anywhere just yet, I have a few more stories I want to tell. But now that HSMTMTS has come to an end, I can see that my time writing fanfic in this Fandom will, too.

That being said...

I've been so energized as a writer thanks to all of you, and I'm determined to stay writing! And pursue to idea of being a traditional or indie published author.

I am currently working on transforming a couple of my Portwell stories to true original fiction, and have plans to draft a completely original piece during November for NaNoWriMo.

So I'm wondering if anyone here would like to beta read for me? I would love to share chapters and get feedback, especially from those of you who know my writing style and have a sense of what to expect.

As a content warning, the new versions of these stories are 🌶🌶🌶 compared to the fanfic versions. They are intended to be adult romance novels so some of what's closed door in the original version is depicted on the page. So please be an adult to read!

Images of last night kept replaying in my head, a movie stuck on repeat. Long bruises lashed the tops of my thighs, peeking out from under the hem of my shirt. I traced a finger along the mottled skin, pressing down until I felt an ache, and a spike of excitement shot through my gut like a jolt of electricity.

“Fuck,” I murmured and hastily put my shoes on.

Sex has been good before, but never that good. He knew every part of me. He’d moved in ways no man or woman ever had. His tentacles had flexed inside me, stretching and pressing against my inner walls, striking me from the inside. In the moment, I’d been delirious with pleasure, lost in the sensation of him fucking me.

I could still feel him, even now. A fullness that I’d never experienced before and could easily find myself growing addicted to.

Leuce help me, I wanted more.

Leon stirred but didn’t wake. I sat in the grass, the blades tickling the backs of my thighs, and watched him, trying to connect the face in front of me with the one from last night.

Light spilled over him, casting a golden halo across his sun kissed body, highlighting the swells of his biceps that peeked out from the blanket, and the hard definition of his chest.

Was Leon’s cock still monstrously large or did it change when he was in human form? I didn’t even take all of him last night. I’d only managed to take a little over a half, and I didn’t know if taking his full length was even humanly possible.

Who knew Ali Hazelwood would be the one to get me interested in chess?!

“Check & Mate” follows Mallory Greenleaf, a former chess player working as a mechanic to support her family. Eager to leave the sport and the destruction it caused in the past, she plays one last charity tournament. Only, she manages to beat Nolan Sawyer, the current world champion and bad boy of chess. What follows is the opportunity to continue playing for sorely needed cash prizes and cross pawns with her fiercely attractive competitor. That is, so long as she can protect her family from the game that wrecked it.

I want to begin by saying that I agree reviewers that are saying that this book is new adult and NOT young adult. The characters are 18 and 20. Mature language is used. Sexual content is referenced. Please keep these factors in mind before reading.

Considering that this is an NA debut, Hazelwood is successful in branching out into this space. I adored Mallory, Nolan, and their rivals-to-lovers romance. The pacing of their relationship contributes to the ease with which I tore through this book. I feel like Mallory and Nolan truly started out as competitors too absorbed in their rivalry to entertain the idea of a relationship before finally giving in to their attraction. I devoured every single page.

I also really loved the depth of the characters in this book! As the eldest child in my own family, I really connected to Mallory and the pressure she feels to take on more responsibilities, set an example for her younger siblings, and step in as another parent of sorts.

As with her other books, Hazelwood explores the ways women are treated in male-dominated spaces. In this case, she does so by putting the chess world under a microscope. Going into the book, I knew next to nothing about chess, but Hazelwood made it easy to understand and digestible. It just worked and now I feel empowered to try my hand at it.

The portrait

My fingers drummed against my canvas, a nervous tic that often accompanied me when I felt most out of my element. I glanced around the dimly lit studio, taking in the dusty paintbrushes. This wasn't the first time I had been tasked with capturing the essence of another person, but it was the first time I had ever felt this… uneasy.

The model, a young man named Jack, stood patiently in front of a mirror. Adjusting his posture and occasionally glancing over his shoulder at me. His features were striking: high cheekbones, piercing green eyes, and a strong jawline. But it was his personality that I was struggling to capture. He's guarded, private, almost secretive.

As if sensing my thoughts, he turned to face me, his expression unreadable. "Is something wrong?" he asked softly.

I cleared my throat, forcing myself to meet his gaze. "No, no. I'm fine. I'm just… trying to figure out how to capture you. You're… different from any other subject I've had."

He smiled, a small, self-deprecating gesture. "Yeah, I get that a lot." His voice was smooth, almost musical. "I guess it's because I'm an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, stuffed into a turtleneck." He chuckled. "Or some kind of bullshit like that."

I forced a laugh, trying to put him at ease. "Well, it's true. You're… different. And I mean that in the best possible way." I stepped back, studying his form. Trying to find the angle that would reveal the parts of him hidden. The parts that he tried so hard to keep hidden.

"Maybe if I approach it from a different perspective…" I murmured, picking up my brush.

As I paint, I found myself drawn to the subtle lines of his face, the way his jaw tensed when he was deep in thought. I painted the way he held himself, as if he were trying to protect something precious. I painted the shadows that danced across his skin, hinting at a life lived both in the spotlight and in solitude.

"How's it going?" he asked softly, his voice breaking into my thoughts. I glanced up at him, meeting his gaze once more.

"It's going… well, I think." I swallowed hard, self-conscious. "I think we're almost done for the day."

He nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "I hope I'm not too much of an enigma for you."

I laugh, raising an eyebrow. "Let me guess, something Mr Matthew's has said?"

He chuckles, shaking his head. "He's one weird teacher, that's for sure."

I grin, setting my brush down. "Well, I think I've gotten a pretty good start for today."

He walks over to study my progress. His expression is thoughtful. "You really capture the essence of people, don't you?"

I smile, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "I try." "Same time next week Em?" He asks.

"Of course, Jack. I'll see you then." I reply, stepping back to admire my work. Even though I had only been working on it for a few hours, the painting already felt alive. As if it were breathing and growing right before my eyes. There was something about capturing the essence of another person. I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in my ability to do so.

"Can I walk you out?" He asks lingering at the door.

"Oh, no thank you,I need to clean up before I leave." I gesture to my brushes and palette.

"I can wait?" He asks, "It's getting dark out."

"No, really, it's fine. I'll be alright" I reply with a small smile.

"Ok then." Jack says, nodding slowly. There's something in the way he looks at me, something that makes my stomach flutter. "Well, have a good night, Em."

I smile back at him, feeling a strange sense of warmth spread through me. "You too, Jack."

As he turns to leave, I can't help but watch him go, admiring the way his shoulders roll with each step. There's something so effortless about the way he moves. He seems to glide across the room, almost like he's floating. It's strange how such a large man can move so gracefully. I shake my head, chiding myself for losing focus again.

Cleaning up takes me only a few minutes. I pack away my supplies and head out into the hallway. The lights dimmed, casting a warm glow over the worn linoleum floor. I make my way down the hall, my footsteps echoing softly against the walls. As I round the corner, I'm hit with a wave of exhaustion. It's been a long day, and the prospect of going home and crawling into bed is more appealing than anything else.

Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann

About: Alice's girlfriend just broke up with her because she's asexual. Alright, she didn't put it in those words exactly, but otherwise, she might have just followed a script. Alice has had more than enough of dating when the new guy at her library job turns up looking like a model in a male fragrance ad, effectively breaking her tried and tested Cutie Code. As they grow closer as friends, Alice has to decide whether to risk their friendship for a romance with someone who may not understand or accept her orientation. Trigger warnings: acephobia (countered), sexual harassment, parental manipulation, violence references.

Thoughts: This is a fluffy, adorable romance with great biromantic/asexual representation, and you should read it for all the reasons people say you should. I really enjoyed the perspective of an ace character, and Alice's narration does an excellent job in breaking down the differences between aesthetic, romantic, and sexual attraction. She literally has a code for it to help make it clearer for herself and the reader. I liked her a lot as a main character. She's cute and a little self-centered, and I like main characters who acknowledge their flaws. She also loves food and pop culture references, which I'm here for (we’re both Dean girls), and the writing itself is often funny.

Unfortunately, I had zero feelings whatsoever about her love interest, Takumi. He never felt fully like a real person to me, but ace romances deserve that too-good-and-beautiful-to-be true male lead as much as hetero romances, and the genre as a whole is littered with those. There also just isn't much going on here besides fluffy cutes between Alice and Takumi, aside from some minor conflicts with her friends and family that don't get quite enough development or attention. Again, this is something I struggle with in the romance genre as a whole, since I prefer to have things going on outside of the romance, but that's more personal preference than anything. If it sounds like a book you'd like, it probably is.
