Acts 20:29-31 NRSVA
"I know that after I have gone, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Some even from your own group will come distorting the truth in order to entice the disciples to follow them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to warn everyone with tears."
Study questions:
(1) What does Paul mean by "after I have gone"?
(2) What does he mean by "from your own group"? What group is he referring to?
(3) Why does he emphasize that he warned them with tears? What kind of warning does this imply?

Salutation
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, together with all those who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus, 5 for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind— 6 just as the testimony of Christ has been strengthened among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful; by him you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Divisions in the Church
10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you should be in agreement and that there should be no divisions among you, but that you should be united in the same mind and the same purpose. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there are quarrels among you, my brothers and sisters. 12 What I mean is that each of you says, ‘I belong to Paul’, or ‘I belong to Apollos’, or ‘I belong to Cephas’, or ‘I belong to Christ.’ 13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its power.
Christ the Power and Wisdom of God
18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,
‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,    and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’
20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling-block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.
26 Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, 29 so that no one might boast in the presence of God. 30 He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’ — 1 Corinthians 1 | New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised (NRSVA) New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition, copyright © 1989, 1995 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Romans 5:6-8 New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised (NRSVA) “For while we were still weak, at the right time ‘Christ’ [ha-Mashiyach: the-Anointed, the-Consecrated, etc..] died for the ungodly. Flat earth firmament
Tumblr media
The Copernican Revolution of the 16th century led to reconsideration of these matters. Thomas Aquinas, the firmament had a "solid nature" and stood above a "region of fire, wherein all vapor must be consumed." Saint Basil argued for a fluid firmament. "We may understand this name as given to indicate not it is motionless but that it is solid." he wrote. Īugustine wrote that too much learning had been expended on the nature of the firmament. So slight is this elevation that birds may rise to it and fly along its expanse. To this vault are fastened the lights, the stars. Over this is arched the solid vault of heaven. The Hebrews regarded the earth as a plain or a hill figured like a hemisphere, swimming on water. The Jewish Encyclopedia describes the firmament as follows: Stars were small objects that were attached tenuosly to its surface. On top there were also warehouses of snow and hail. It had many windows, some of which opened and closed for the sun and moon to travel through or to let water, which was held above, fall through as rain. The firmament was a great tent-like ceiling made of solid crystalline-like material, which, according to the pseudepedigraphic 2nd or 3rd century book of 3 Baruch, might be pierced by tower and gimlet. Īn extremely literalistic interpretation of the Bible and non-canonical related texts present a cosmology that is incompatible with modern scientific knowledge. So the evening and the morning were the second day. Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament and it was so. The word is used in the Genesis creation narrative: The New Revised Standard Version uses "dome", as in the Celestial dome. This translation is used by the New International Version and by the English Standard Version. Ĭonservatives and fundamentalists tend to favor translations that allow scripture to be harmonized with scientific knowledge, for example "expanse". Raqa adopted the meaning "to make firm or solid" in Syriac, a major dialect of Aramaic (the vernacular of Jesus) and close cognate of Hebrew. The original word raqia is derived from the root raqa (רקע), meaning "to beat or spread out", e.g., the process of making a dish by hammering thin a lump of metal. The notion of solidity is advanced explicitly in several biblical passages. The connotation of firmness conveyed by the Vulgate's firmamentum is consistent with that of stereoma, the Greek word used in the Septuagint, an earlier translation. The word "firmament" is used to translate raqia, or raqiya` (רקיע), a word used in Biblical Hebrew. The word is a Latinization of the Greek stereoma, which appears in the Septuagint (c. This in turn is derived from the Latin root firmus, a cognate with "firm". The word is anglicised from Latin firmamentum, used in the Vulgate (4th century). It later appeared in the King James Bible. The word "firmament" is first recorded in a Middle English narrative based on scripture dated 1250.

5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, appealing to him 6 and saying, ‘Lord, my servant is lying at home paralysed, in terrible distress.’ 7 And he said to him, ‘I will come and cure him.’ 8 The centurion answered, ‘Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, “Go”, and he goes, and to another, “Come”, and he comes, and to my slave, “Do this”, and the slave does it.’ 10 When Jesus heard him, he was amazed and said to those who followed him, ‘Truly I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and will eat with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the heirs of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, ‘Go; let it be done for you according to your faith.’ And the servant was healed in that hour. — Matthew 8:5-13 | New Revised Standard Version - Anglicised (NRSVA) New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition, copyright © 1989, 1995 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Are You into Global Warming/Climate Change?
Maybe things ARE changing; they have always done so since God first made the world. And yes He set mankind over the earth to take dominion and to ‘dress’ it, to ‘husband’ it: which obviously means to take care of it.
Genesis 2:15 English Revised Version
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Are we God, so that we can affect the climate, or change it by what we do?
And where is God’s hand in all this earthly chaos, anyway?
Numbers 11:23 New American Standard Bible The LORD said to Moses, "Is the LORD'S power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not."
It seems to me that the Bible shows us that the earth, as we know it, has a finite time-scale. God is the Lord of all time and He has shown us through those He appointed, to write His Word, the various things which we can expect.
I believe that science must bow to the Bible, and not the other way around.
 Demonising Mankind and Lauding Animal-kind.
Tumblr media
So the scientists and others have put it about that mankind is causing global warming/climate change. Really?
There is a condemnation as always - over melting ice-caps, tree-cutting, plastic and what-have-you.
John 3:17 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
I understand how that those who don’t have a faith in the God of the Bible will be anxious about many things, but that anxiety does not negate the Truth written there.
Here’s a good one to start with:
Psalm 102:26-27 New International Version (NIV)
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,  and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you.”
Tumblr media
We can discover, through these many scriptures, that the earth was not designed by God to be the ‘end-all’.
Tumblr media
Isaiah 34:4 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
4 All the host of heaven shall rot away,  and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree
The more that these words are repeated throughout the Word of God, the more definite and destined it is to take place, just as the prophets foretold. Remember that the Bible was written by the Spirit of God, more than the men who actually penned it. Search it for God’s heart in every situation.
2 Peter 3:10 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Tumblr media
Rather than let so many human fears take hold of us, we need to call God our Father, then we need to let Him lead us, where we are meant to go.
Matthew 24:29 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
The Coming of the Son of Man
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Tumblr media
These are Jesus’ own words, repeated by another gospel writer, Mark:
Mark 13:24-27 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
The Coming of the Son of Man
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
This is how real it is and how much we are to realise that Father God IS in control, because of course, quite a few of us Bible-believers know that life is not just about the physical and what we can see, but that the spiritual side is the main power in this world. There is more going on in the spirit realm than we can truly know.
Revelation 6:14 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
14 The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
Once we get to the last ‘book’ of the Bible, where prophecy is put into symbols and stories of how this world works, then we see the grammatical tense change. It’s the end of the story.
Revelation 21 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
The New Heaven and the New Earth
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”

WHAT IS THE WASHING OF REGENERATION? BY STEVE FINNELL
Most people who believe that men are saved by faith alone simply disregard the Scriptures that express water baptism as being essential to forgiveness of sins.
What is the washing of regeneration?
Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done , but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,(NKJV)
God saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. What is is washing of regeneration?
Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.(New Revised  Standard Version Catholic Edition)
He saved us through the water of rebirth, not because we were born of water the first time. No one can be reborn of amniotic fluid, that would be the first birth.
Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.(New Revised Standard Version)
You cannot take the water out of washing of regeneration.
Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. (New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised)
Being reborn of water and the Spirit cannot be separated.
John 3:3-5 ...unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 5. ....unless one is born of water and the Spirit , he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  (NKJV)
You must be born again of water and the Spirit. Born of the Spirit alone cannot saved you.
THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.
Ephesians 5:25-27....as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,.... (NKJV)
Christ sanctifies and cleanses the body of Christ with the washing of water. The washing of regeneration.
Ephesians 5:26 He did this to make her holy by washing her in a bath of water with the word. (Common English Bible)
There is no rebirth without water baptism.
Ephesians 5:26 He made the church holy by the power of his word, and he made it pure by washing it with water.(Contemporary English Version)
There is no dry washing of regeneration.
THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.
Acts 22:16 'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord." (NKJV)
No sins (under the New Covenant) are washed away without water baptism.
Acts 22:16 Now, don't wait any longer. Get up, be baptized and wash away your sins, trusting in Jesus to save you.' (Easy-to-Read Version)
The washing of regeneration.
THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.
1. Titus 3:5 not by works of righteous  which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)
WATER AND SPIRIT.
2. John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(NKJV)
WATER AND SPIRIT.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)
WATER AND SPIRIT.
There is no salvation without the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
THERE IS NO DRY-CLEANING, FOR SALVATION, UNDER THE NEW COVENANT TERMS OF PARDON!

Psalm 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity     and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,     and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned     and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict     and justified when you judge. 5 Surely I was sinful at birth,     sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;     you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;     wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness;     let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins     and blot out all my iniquity.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,     and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence     or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation     and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,     so that sinners will turn back to you. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,     you who are God my Savior,     and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 Open my lips, Lord,     and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;     you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 My sacrifice, O God, is[b] a broken spirit;     a broken and contrite heart     you, God, will not despise.
18 May it please you to prosper Zion,     to build up the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous,     in burnt offerings offered whole;     then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Jonah 3 New International Version (NIV)
Jonah Goes to Nineveh
3 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”
3 Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. 4 Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” 5 The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
6 When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:
“By the decree of the king and his nobles:
Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8 But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. 9 Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish.”
10 When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.

Romans 1:1-7 New International Version (NIV)
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from[c] faith for his name’s sake. 6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
In this text the writer David expresses deep sorrow for his past transgressions. I am reminded of my car one Midwest winter. After all the salt had been poured to clear the roadways, my car had taken a beating. It accumulated a layer of dirt and grime. Underneath the dirt, the shine remained but what people saw was the dirt. So it is with sin. We can still be moving and living life but sin leaves a film on us. The world begins to see all the dirt.
David recognizes he needs cleansing. David a man after GODS heart says cleanse me with hyssop LORD. In a moment of self awareness David is heartbroken due to his shortcomings. The grime is so overwhelming he writes “restore the joy of my salvation. I know we when we are honest with ourselves must align with David. We have allowed random things to block the shine in our lives. Worry, fear, pride all have blocked the shine.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 NRSVA
"As to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we beg you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as though from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one destined for destruction."
Study questions:
(1) What does the author mean by "the coming of our Lord"?
(2) Why would the audience be alarmed or distressed?
(3) What would the assumptions be if the day of the Lord had already arrived? How would the world change?
(4) Who is "the lawless one" in this passage? Has he been revealed?
(5) The author mentions "by letter, as though from us". Were people spreading forgeries or misinformation in the name of Paul? How could the audience know what was genuine?

Judging Others
1 ‘Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2 For with the judgement you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3 Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your neighbour, “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbour’s eye.
Profaning the Holy
6 ‘Do not give what is holy to dogs; and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you.
Ask, Search, Knock
7 ‘Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? 10 Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
The Golden Rule
12 ‘In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.
The Narrow Gate
13 ‘Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. 14 For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 ‘Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17 In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will know them by their fruits.
Concerning Self-Deception
21 ‘Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord”, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?” 23 Then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.”
Hearers and Doers
24 ‘Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!’
28 Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 29 for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. — Matthew 7 | New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised (NRSVA) New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition, copyright © 1989, 1995 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Quote
The words of Agur son of Jakeh. An oracle. Thus says the man: I am weary, O God,    I am weary, O God. How can I prevail? Surely I am too stupid to be human;    I do not have human understanding. I have not learned wisdom,    nor have I knowledge of the holy ones. Who has ascended to heaven and come down?    Who has gathered the wind in the hollow of the hand? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?    Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is the person’s name?    And what is the name of the person’s child?    Surely you know! Every word of God proves true;    he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words,    or else he will rebuke you, and you will be found a liar. Two things I ask of you;    do not deny them to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying;    give me neither poverty nor riches;    feed me with the food that I need, or I shall be full, and deny you,    and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or I shall be poor, and steal,    and profane the name of my God
