The character sheet for Toshio Furukawa’s role in the upcoming Birth of Kitaro movie has been revealed 💛🩶

Although the staff play coy by describing him merely as ‘a mysterious boy’, this is no doubt a younger Ratman! It’s possible Kitaro won’t learn his name during the movie events however, and thus the mystery. Very curious to see how involved he’ll be! Kitaro has had quite a long past with him after all.

They’ve made some tweaks to his design here which interest me - it’s probably in an effort to give him a more youthful look, but his head isn’t as egg-shaped, and his ears far less pointed.

This supports a pet theory I’ve had based on the 2018 series, which is:

Hanyou predominantly start off looking human-ish, and become progressively more youkai-like as time passes.

Basically, I figure their human cells would die off and be replaced by the youkai portion that continues to persist.

Is this to explain why I draw Reiji with rounded human ears?? Maybe!!! But I also appreciate good lore expansion.

Recently, I watched the 2018 anime "Gegege no Kitarou" because I like legends and creatures especially their cartoon and anime adaptations. It was out of curiosity and by chance that I started reading scans of the manga of the same name. Honestly, both manga and anime are good, and I'll be watching the other adaptations. I have chosen Nezumi Otoko, he's a half-yokai, half-human character, sometimes an ally, sometimes an enemy (anti-hero or anti-villain, I don't know where to put it), he'll never stop swindling humans out of large sums of money. Hate him or love him, that's what I think makes him so appealing. I opted for an Occidental chara-design (even if it's a little closer to the mange style, I don't know from your point of view) to see what he might look like.
