“…Tell me who’s the loneliest of all.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(2/2) The nightmares about that bridge never stop, the screams, tears and panic. Trying to fight for her, in hope that it could give them enough time.
Doing anything in her power to honor her grandfather, just to watch it fade away.
Weiss felt helpless. She almost lost them both.

The Most Important Lesson of Them All
Jaune: Wait! (Holds door) I... I know who you are! I followed your clues!
???: Hh. Good for you. Now get the fuck out of my house.
Jaune: (Following) W-Wait! I'm here because I want-
???: I don't give a damn about your death wish, kid. Get out.
Jaune: But you're Nicholas Schnee. You were the last and greatest knight of Remnant.
Nicholas: Pah! "Greatest." You make me sound so noble. I was bested. Humiliated worse than I ever could have been. That's why I ran away like a child.
Nicholas: A child who'd seen Death herself.
Jaune: I don't care. I've been looking for you for years! Dad wanted you to train me first, but I knew you would be the last. Then I'll be ready. Ready to face the woman who made me.
Nicholas: Back to Salem so soon? ...What's with that look? You think I don't know who you are, Jaune Arc?
Nicholas: I know from the salt on your shoulder which Menagerie port you left from. The color of your sleeves tell me which Mistrali swordsman you learned your swordsmanship from. The green stains on your shoes tell me you trained your body in the art of no-aura combat to improve your aura restoration. The cut of your hair tells me where you learned to paraglide, and the callouses on your hands tell me where you learned to hold your shield. The scars on your knuckles tell me who taught you to punch. And if you're here, it means you've spoken to Klein Sieben, and you actually listened through his entire seven hour tale.
Jaune: But... But how-
Nicholas: (Opens door) See for yourself.
Jaune: (Steps in and sees broken armors, Finds walls lined with combat manuscripts) I... Teach me.
Nicholas: Hh... No. No, I think not. At least, I won't teach you what you came to learn, anyways. Instead, I'll teach you something different. Possibly the most important lesson of them all, m'boy...
Nicholas: I'm going to teach you how to lose.

Merry Schnees-Mas!
Tumblr media
It's Christmas, so here comes a short meta on the Schnees' secondary allusion, which is rooted in the founder of the SDC: Nicholas Schnee.
NICHOLAS AS SANTA CLAUS
Tumblr media
Nicholas alludes to Santa Claus:
He is called "Old Nick"
He has a white beard and wears a red cape with white fur
He lives in the Kingdom of Winter and is the Head of the Schnee (snow) family
He is famous for being fair and generous
He is the founder of a company who produces the equivalent of magic (Dust) and is known all around the world
Under his leadership the SDC is small, but famous for its quality, fairness and genuine values.
JACQUES AS A GOBLIN-JACK FROST
Tumblr media
Jacques alludes to Jack Frost:
His name Jacques is similar to Jack and his surname Gelè means frost in French
He is associated with cold, as he makes his family's life cold and lonely through his abuse
Jack Frost is often depicted positively and is even considered Santa Claus's helper. For example, he makes snow fall, so that Santa can camouflage himself in the sky. Obviously, Jacques is an inversion, as he tricks Willow and Nicholas in trusting him with the SDC. In short, he is a false friend to them: he acts as the embodyment of winter, only to reveal himself as a cruel goblin. Like the one who builds the evil mirror in The Snow Queen. Or like Santa Claus's most famous enemies.
Under him, the Company grows and starts exporting in the whole world. Still, the workers are exploited and more and more unethical methods are used. The SDC and the Schnee Family both lose their identity.
THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS
Tumblr media
Let's review:
Nicholas founds a company built on mutual help, fairness and quality
Jacques comes and makes it bigger and more successful, but sacrifices its people for it
Doesn't it sound similar to what capitalism does to Santa Claus and Christmas itself?
Tumblr media
Then the point may very well be that the Schnee Family needs to rediscover the "true meaning of Christmas" and Nicholas's original ideals.
Luckily, a certain snowflake is on it:
Weiss: I don’t know who you think you are, but let me tell you who I am: I am the granddaughter of a hero and a child of a villain. I am a citizen of a fallen Kingdom and an heir to nothing. I will not be defined by my name because I will be the one to define it. I am Weiss Schnee, and I am a Huntress!
Weiss is bound to rebuild the Schnee Family legacy and to define what her surname stands for.
Interestingly, our Snowhite is also tied to resurrection (as per her fairy tale) and to religious symbolism:
Tumblr media
And what is Christmas, if not the celebration of Jesus's birthday? The child who will die and be reborn to save humanity?
I would say our Snow Angel's chances to succeed are pretty high!
Merry Christmas to whoever celebrates! And Happy Holidays to everybody!

After watching this latest episode of Ice Queendom, and in particular finally seeing Nicholas Schnee in the (sort of) flesh, I was reminded of this one idea that’s been bugging me ever since we first got a proper look at Nicholas back in Volume 7 when we saw his portrait.
Tumblr media
Is it just me, or does Nicholas’s design look weirdly like Ruby of all people?
Specifically his hair-style, which has that messy, short-cropped look with the single bang standing up which looks fairly similar to Ruby’s, particularly Ruby’s Atlas-arc redesign.
Now ordinarily I’d write this similarity off to coincidence. But then we also have Nicholas’s iconic RED cape and oversized weapon, and suddenly this similarity starts feeling less coincidental. Particularly when we add in how Nicholas is celebrated as a folk-hero who risked his life to help others.
And the memory between Weiss and Nicholas that we see in this latest episode seems to further reinforce this idea, specifically a lot of Nicholas’s dialogue:
“My joy in life comes from help others, not from becoming a king.”
“Eventually, however, you yourself will become a castle who protects others.”
“Inside your heart, build the grandest, most noble castle you can. Build it together with the friends you will one day meet.”
Honestly, this dialogue feels a LOT like something we might hear from Ruby, particularly early-series Ruby. It definitely has a very similar vibe to “Well that’s why we’re here. To make it better.”
Seeing all of this play out, I really have to wonder if Nicholas is meant to draw deliberate parallels to Ruby. And more specifically, if we’re going to find out at some point that this was one of the things that drew Weiss to Ruby in the first place?
In the sense that Weiss always looked up to and idolized her grandfather as a child, hoping to one day be a hero just like him as we see in the memory. But growing up under Jacques and all the trauma that brought gradually eroded away that positive drive Weiss once had.
Until she met Ruby. A girl who seemed to embody all of the positivity and idealism Weiss once idolized in her grandfather. And it was thanks to Ruby that Weiss regained that idealism and heroic ideals she once aspired to as a child.
Basically, we might find that Ruby and Weiss are actually very similar, with Weiss idolizing Nicholas as a young child in what seems to be a similar way to how Ruby (and Yang) idolized Summer. It was just that Weiss forgot what it meant to see the best in people and world, and it was RUBY who reminded her.

Fucking me up so bad that Weiss shows attraction to Ever After Jaune who’s pretty close in appearance and knightly aesthetic to Nicholas Schnee, I would like Freud to leave my head now.

Spider-Knight: Edge of Time.
Jaune would be in a file room looking at a computer that he would try to access but a password screen would appear.
Spider-Knight(J): Ok, i'm here so how do i access it?
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Enter my password: PENNY, P-E-N-N-Y.
Jaune would enter the password that Nicholas had given him but the computer would give it as an incorrect password.
Spider-Knight(J): Great. You got any other ideas?
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Hmph let me think...
Nicholas was thinking about another password and Jaune would just sigh and say in a joking tone ''grant me access'' which would work and opening the files on the PC.
Spider-Knight(J): That was weird, Okay let's go over the start-yo procedures.
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Slow down, Arc, it's no that simple!
Spider-Knight(J): Did you fire up the quark enhancers? Activate the tachyon relays?
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Yes, Yes. I did all that! Will you...
Jaune continued working on the computer, opening various files while Nicholas spoke and ended up cutting him off.
Spider-Knight(J): Uncouple the heinsenburg compensators?
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Yes of course I... shock it, No i didn't!
Nicholas would be slightly irritated for having forgotten to do that step that Jaune mentioned. Jaune would listen and be surprised at himself.
Spider-Knight(J): Wait i was right? Wow i...
Jaune opened a file written ''Snow Fall'' and read the file with a sad expression and tone of voice. Nicholas would notice and ask why Jaune had changed his tone of voice.
Spider-Knight(J): Weiss dies tonight at alchemax?!
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): How did you know.. For shock's sake Arc! What part of ''dont poke around in the archives'' was unclear!
Jaune was listening to Nicholas complaining to him while he read the entire file trying to see how Weiss died that night.
Spider-Knight(J): Fine. i'm a nosy Arc! But now that i found out its-
Nicholas would speak with a slight tone of anger cutting through Jaune as he spoke.
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): It's what? My job to save her?I've got enought ot deal with!
Jaune would be irritated by Nicholas comment and would speak with a slightly aggressive tone towards him.
Spider-Knight(J): You can't mean that! You just can't ignore that she's in danger!
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): Hey im trying to focus on what's important.
Spider-Knight(J): What's important is not standing by and allowing someone to suffer or die beacause you do nothing, If you don't get that, then you don't get the first thing about being Spider-Knight.
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): You're the one who doesn't get it, Parker. The future depends on...
When Nicholas would finish the sentence Jaune would punch both fists on the keyboard angrily and speak in an angry tone.
Spider-Knight(J): My future is meaningless without her!
Nicholas would think and sigh and leave where he was and go towards where Weiss was to prevent her death.
Spider-Knight 2099 (N): This is gonna be a huge mistake.
Jaune would hear Nicholas' comment and he would have a smile on his face and he would come to his senses and speak in a calm and happy tone to Nicolas.
Spider-Knight(J): I owe you, Nicholas, Big time.

Schnee family sword names have had my interest for quite some time now. So here, I'll be figuring out what they look like, along with their names.
Up first, we have Nicholas Schnee.
Tumblr media
This man is quite literally a knight in shining armour. But his sword isn't one of the Oakeshott typology. According to The World of Remnant Short, Nicholas actually uses a sabre and pistol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Contrary to what may be popular belief, there is a discipline for this style of fighting in HEMA, and yes, it involves using a sabre - specifically either a spadroon or a boarding cutlass according to David Rawlings.
Regarding what sword he would use, I believe his hands are very big. He was a miner, after all, and he's clearly shown wielding a pickaxe as well.
Therefore, I think his sword would be a two-handed sabre, like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More specifically, it would have the swept hitl guard, and the grip. But I picture the blade being a little wider, and the pommel having a more 'flowery' shape. Something like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Separate thought here: take note of the pommel in the picture. Does it look a bit familiar?
Tumblr media
I think so. :3
Regarding a name, I think this sword is called Wurzel, which is the German word for Root.
The reason being that Weiss explains how her father wasn't the man who started the Schnee family, and she also refuses to be the last of it.
I agree. Her motive is honorable. Jacques was a jackass after all.
But something tells me that the true Schnee legacy doesn't go back much further than Nicholas himself. Therefore, I view Nicholas as the Root of his family tree.
Incidentally, I believe the sword was forged using part of a meteorite, which landed in the mining areas in Mantle, hitting a vein of ice and absorbing the power from it.
From the unique metal combined with the ice dust, the blade was especially good at freezing through objects and other weapons. The sword was retired from service not long before Nicholas died and has seen no action since.

Weiss: *holds baby* Look, he looks like you.
Jaune:I’d be concerned if he didn’t. Has your hair though. Healthy blend.
Weiss:He’ll probably act you too. It’s a little unfair.
Jaune:Not exactly how genes work.
Weiss:Nah I can tell. He’s already glowing positivity and wants to friends with everyone.
xxxxxx
School girls: *cheering for Nick*
Weiss:Look, you have fans.
Nick:I…don’t really care about this noise. I’d rather be asleep or hidden.
Weiss:… *hugs* I win.
Nick:Win what?
Weiss:Nothing. Everything is perfectly balanced.
Meanwhile at a concert
Summer: *extends mic out*
Crowd:WE LOVE YOU SUMMER!
Summer:I LOVE YOU TOO!!!! *starts shredding*
Technician:This is her third encore performance…
Jaune:She has two more in her, tops.

Okay, I absolutely adored your last Jaune & Weiss social standing reversal!
So how about one where their family dynamics are reversed?
Weiss is the one who leaves her loving parents and siblings behind, intent on becoming a hero like her grandmother....
...While Jaune is the one desperate to leave his strict, manipulative mother and drunkenly depressed father. Meanwhile, all 7 of his sisters, apart from Saphron the eldest, are either very distant or cold to him.
Weiss Schnee had everything a woman of her status could ask for. Since her grandfather's passing of his position as CEO of the Schnee Dust Company to his daughter, and her mother, Weiss had been the perfect example of how a Schnee should be at her age. Her sister, Winter, dismissed the offer to take her mother's place and instead chose her own path to become a huntress like her grandparents and her mother. Weiss would also choose this same path, mockingly called a copycat by her siblings. Speaking of said siblings, Whitley, the youngest of the three, threw himself into his studies to pick up the slack left by his sisters. He was always the odd one, loving mathematics and probability and statistics and other such complicated business jargon that made any other thirteen-year-old's head spin. Their father, Klein, seemed to be the only member of the family who seemed to understand him, or if he didn't, he hid it very well.
Weiss was now at Beacon, modestly packed with only the barest of essentials as the representative of the Schnee Dust Company. If said "bare essentials" required three suitcases and a trolley to carry them, then so be it. Still, she was confident she would excel in her classes and establish herself as the team leader in time at all. And if she didn't, then oh, well, right?
Even if she really wanted to be team leader so badly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaune Arc was living in hell. Saphron had the right idea to run away, just like he was doing now. The only difference between them was that Jaune had enough sense to take a weapon with him. If only he held that sense when his mother had one of her "fits". Not like Dad would do anything to stop him. He'd been deep into the bottle since his time in the war, and in a way, he was still there. He felt pity for the poor man, though it was cold comfort for him when seven other women were screeching at the only two men in the house. And now, that pity would be long forgotten, hopefully like his mother and her underhanded manipulation of his family's actions would be. Y'know those stories about the "perfect man who does everything around the house"? That was him, being groomed by his mother to be perfect at everything so that someone would look his way and decide, "Yeah, I'll definitely marry someone tall, blond, and scraggly!"
The last he saw of his family before boarding the bullhead was his father sitting on the porch, bottle in his hand. He didn't say anything. He didn't do anything. He'd been the same man for the past seventeen years of Jaune's life. Most motion he made was taking an especially long sig of his liquor until it was only the bottle left. As the alcohol soaked into his blond, graying beard, Jaune made an oath, a promise; Jaune Arc would never become his father.
He'd say he'd give his word, but what good would that do? An Arc never kept his word before.

I would like to let everyone know I’m an advocate for the theory/headcanon that Whitley Schnee will look like his grandfather, Nicholas Schnee, when he’s older. If he exercises and takes good care of himself
Right now he’s all gangly because, and prove me wrong, Jacques fed him only the necessary amount and had him confined doing nothing but desk work. That would mess up everyone’s build, and he’s a growing kid;;
Also, as we have come to know, the Schnee genes overpower any other that try coming in contact with them. So yeah, Whitley looks like Jacques because he’s still young, give him a couple more years and good choices and you’ll see.
and finally, the strongest reason why he’s like his grandfather…
Tumblr media
Ahoge.
thank you. I rest my case.

Am I allowed to be offended by the fact that NO ONE in the show addresses the connection Between the Arma Gigas and Nicholas Schnee.
I can certainly understand that. It would definitely be pretty interesting to see the show discuss that connection openly.
Though at the same time, I also understand that the show really hasn't had a good opportunity to do that so far. The connection between the Arma Gigas and Nicholas is clearly something that would be very personal to the Schnees, and Weiss in particular. I don't exactly see a situation so where where Weiss would feel a great need to discuss/reveal this to her teammates or other friends.
The only person I imagine Weiss has spent any real amount of time with during the show that she might have a reason to discuss this with would be Winter in Volume 7, though given how Winter was actively working to distance herself from the Schnee family name/legacy at the time, I think it's understandable that this topic wouldn't come up between the two sisters.
Really, I think the only person who would have a strong reason to discuss this connection with Weiss would be her mother. Though again, it's not like Weiss had any real time to have the opportunity for such a discussion with her mother during Volume 7 or 8. That being said, I could see this happening in future volumes, say if Willow actually sees her daughter summon the image of her father into battle. I think that could certainly kick off some interesting conversations.
Additionally, one other idea came to me just now: The way Weiss has been trying to live up to the 'legacy' of her grandfather has a lot of potential parallels and contrasts to how Ruby has been implicitly trying to live up to the legacy of Summer. So if future volumes show Ruby continue to grapple with the legacy and name of her mother, I think that could lead to some VERY interesting conversations between her and Weiss, which would be a very natural place for Weiss to discuss how she summons the image of her grandfather into battle.
