Program Title/Movie Title: The Book Thief (2013)

Movie/s description:

The Book Thief is a movie adaptation of the novel of Markus Zusak in 2005. The Book Thief is directed by Brian Percival, it is produced under the Fox 20th Century Studios. The setting of the movie is at Germany in World War II. Liesel Meminger was played by the actress, Sophie Nélisse. Geoffrey Rush played the role of Hans Hubermann, the kind-hearted father of Liesel Meminger and Emily Watson played the role of Rosa Hubermann the wife of Hans and the strict foster mother of Liesel Meminger. Nico Liersch played the role of Rudy Steiner the first bestfriend of Liesel in her new home. Ben Schnetzer played the role of Max Vandenburg, a injured Jewish that the Hubermann helped. These characters played an important role in the making of the whole film.

Theme:

The film, The Book Thief (2013), these have several of themes one of that is the importance of education wherein in the film, we can see that Liesel Meminger is being bullied because she do not know how to write her name and how to read. Also, it is amazing to see how Liesel, Han, and Max are both willing to learn more by reading more books and exploring ways to share their knowledge with each other. Another one is the power of words, in the movie wherein the setting is at Germany in World War II, the words of the Nazi soldiers to the people are have a powerful impact to the minds of the people wherein the people only believe what they say even if it is wrong, this results to most of the people at that time became racists. Amother is the cruel effect of war to the people especially to the children, in the film, death is evident because in wars we cannot avoid that men are being scouted and brought to war to fight for their country, young boys are being trained to be a next Nazi soldiers, there are children and innocent people are being killed, physically tortured, and also being treated judged and treated unfairly.

Content:

The movie started with the narration of “the death”. The main character, Liesel Meminger, is a courageous girl who witnessed the death of her younger brother and she also has been adopted by the Hubermann couples, in their care Liesel’s new life continues. Liesel met Rudy a neighbor who later became her first best friend. Rudy taught her how to enjoy life. Liesel was bullied by her classmates because she do not know how to read and write. Her foster father, Hans Hubermann taught her how to read and even created a board wherein Liesel can write all the words that she will learn. One night, a parade or a ceremony that is being celebrated by the whole town wherein a Nazi chief did a speech and later ask for the town people to burn their books, one of Liesel’s bully asked her to burn a book that is why Liesel burned the book that she treasured the most, the book that reminds her of her dead younger brother. After the ceremony, Liesel picked up a book even if it is illegal, a woman in the car saw her and also Hans saw her but, Hans said to Leslie to keep the book. One night, Max, a Jew knocked to the door of the home of the Hubermann, Max was injured, the Hubbermanns help him and decided to keep it as a secret since it is illegal that time.  One day, Rosa command Liesel to give the washed clothes back to the Mayor’s house. In the Mayor’s house, Liesel was shocked to saw the woman from the car who saw her picked up the book in the ceremony, Liesel was scared but, it changes to joy when the woman who happened to be the Mayor’s wife asked her to follow her to the library. The mayor’s wife told Liesel that she can visit any time to read a book, Liesel found out that the library was a tribute to the dead son of the mayor and his wife. When the mayor found out the friendship of Liesel and his wife, he immediately banned Liesel to their house. Since Liesel have a passion for reading she decided to stole a book from the Mayor’s library, Rudy caught her in the act and confronted her but later, decided to keep it as a secret. The Nazi soldiers went to Hubermann’s residence and search up the whole house because of some reports that the Hubermanns keeping a Jew, fortunately, the Hubermanns fastly hide Max but, after that Max decided to leave them in order to protect their safety. Fast forward, the bombs that are secretly planted to their whole village exploded; Liesel lives but, unfortunately Hans, Rosa, and Rudy died. Years passed, Max and Liesel had a sweet reunion.

Lesson:

The lesson I learned after watching the movie is that we should be appreciative that we are able to have the freedom to go to school and learn academic-related things that will be a great help for our future. Also, I learned that we can use our knowledge to fight against unjust people without shedding blood. Most of all, I understand more the value of peace and respect because without it war can happen again and war have a lot of negative effects on us.

Okay I have to say it's kinda funny to me that you're using Nico Liersch a german actor as face claim for a young Steve. Most of all because the icons you're using are from the movie "Die Bücherdiebin/The Book Thief" that takes place during WWII and in nazi germany.

Please don't get this wrong I don't mean it in a bad way. I just find it funny because I love this movie but just realized now that this is an american-german movie and the actors and actresses aren't even all german. Until now I thought it's just a german movie and had no idea this movie also exist in the english language. Didn't even noticed that the actor who plays Hans is actually Geoffrey Rush even though he also played one of my favorite characters in Pirates of the Caribbean. I just didn't recognized him in The Book Thief.

But most of all I like this because until now I never met someone who seems to know that movie let alone someone outside of Germany. Many people only know the book and have no idea that this movie exist and even there I couldn't find that many who knows the book.

Idk kinda makes me want to make a character with Sophie Nélisse as face claim to interact with your young Steve 😂

Thank you. To be honest I just looked for an actor that looked the most like a young Steve would look without worrying if they were American because actors are suppose to be able to play outside their region but thank you. If you do I will gladly play with you
