Actually, it might be. When I went to that Storm game, they had the Storm mascot dressed like Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow??? Really? Right now? The Storm really made Jack Sparrow their mascot and didn't think anything of it. Like, if you want a pirate mascot, just dress him as a pirate! You don't have to say over the loudspeaker that he's Jack Sparrow! Think! Use your brains!
Ugh. I'm getting off topic. The point is, this journalist and Nneka are both sort of disgusting.

Nneka and Chiney are from Texas. They're not on the Nigerian national team. But they have been friends with Liz for years. Do the math.
People have been claiming Chiney Ogwumike is on the Nigerian national team. That's fake news lol. Both of the Ogwumikes played for Team USA in FIBA events. They can't switch teams unless FIBA decides it would promote global basketball. I think they could easily make a case that it would. But in order to make that case, they'd have to have a good relationship with the Nigerian national team.
The Nigerian team is led by NCAA/EuroLeague stars Victoria Macauley and Adaora Elonu. There are no WNBA players on the team. When they spoke to the press, they requested anonymity. They believe if they made their names public, it would hurt their careers. And the literal WNBPA president is now calling them liars. So they were right.
So, let's go over what we've learned.
Lindsay Kagawa Colas slipped up and failed to prep Nneka with a woke response.
Nneka is claiming the Nigerian national team is lying and spreading an agenda.
The Ogwumikes do not have a positive relationship with the Nigerian national team.
Macauley and Elonu have no chance in the WNBA as long as Nneka is running things.
Ezi Magbegor's silence isn't just shyness, but fear of backlash from her union president.
Nneka and Derek Fisher care more about winning than about anti-racism.
The WNBPA needs a new president. It can't be Sue because she's about to retire. It can't be Layshia because she's not in the league. So... little baby Satou Sabally, 24, is the best option. Satou for president.

Ethiopia’s warring sides have formally agreed to a permanent cessation of hostilities, an African Union special envoy said on Wednesday, bringing hope of an imminent end to a two-year war that has displaced millions and threatened to destabilise a swath of the continent.
Nigeria’s former president Olusegun Obasanjo, in the first briefing on the peace talks in Pretoria, South Africa’s administrative capital, also said Ethiopia’s government and Tigray authorities have agreed on “orderly, smooth and coordinated disarmament.”
Representatives of the Ethiopian government and a team sent by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a political organisation that has ruled the northern region for decades, have spent almost 10 days together in South Africa in the most serious effort yet to find a negotiated solution to the war.
An earlier truce broke down in August and violence has intensified as both sides sought success on the battlefield to strengthen their negotiating position.
Other key points in the new agreement included “restoration of law and order”, Obasanjo said, as well as “restoration of services” and “unhindered access to humanitarian supplies”.
The removal of all obstacles to the transport of food and medicine into Tigray would be seen as a breakthrough by many observers. Tigray’s six million inhabitants have suffered under a blockade since the beginning of the war, with limited humanitarian aid.
The UN said this month that the conflict was inflicting an “utterly staggering” toll on civilians while António Guterres, the UN secretary general, has described the conflict’s “devastating impact on civilians in what is already a dire humanitarian situation”.
“It is now for all of us to honour this agreement,” said the lead negotiator for Ethiopia’s government, Redwan Hussein. His Tigrayan counterpart, Getachew Reda, agreed, and noted that “painful concessions” have been made.
The war has seen a series of advances and retreats by both sides, bloody battles, drone strikes, alleged ethnic cleansing and a series of atrocities committed by all combatants.
“The level of destruction is immense,” Redwan said.
A critical question is how soon aid can return to Tigray, whose communications and transport links have been largely severed since the conflict began. Doctors have described running out of basic medicines like vaccines, insulin and therapeutic food while people die of easily preventable diseases and starvation. UN human rights investigators have said the Ethiopian government was using “starvation of civilians” as a weapon of war.
“We’re back to 18th-century surgery,” a surgeon at the region’s main hospital, Fasika Amdeslasie, told health experts at an online event Wednesday. “It’s like an open-air prison.”
The true death toll in the conflict is unknown but could be approaching levels that make the conflict one of the most lethal anywhere in the world. With no access for independent journalists and a limited presence of international humanitarians, reliable data is scarce.
Some estimate that hundreds of thousands may have died as a result of fighting and the blockade. Others put the number in the tens of thousands, including combatants.
The Ethiopian government accuses the TPLF, which played a leading role in the country’s ruling coalition until Abiy came to power in 2018, of trying to reassert Tigrayan dominance over the entire country. Tigrayan leaders accuse Abiy of repressive government and discrimination. Both deny each other’s accusations.
Eritrea, which has fought alongside neighbouring Ethiopia, was not part of the peace talks – an omission that analysts have said could seriously undermine prospects for a permanent end to hostilities. The authoritarian regime in power in Eritrea has long considered Tigray authorities a threat and has not yet reacted formally to the agreement.
Eritrean forces have been blamed for some of the conflict’s worst abuses, including gang-rapes, and witnesses have described killings and lootings by Eritrean forces even during the peace talks.
Forces from Ethiopia’s neighbouring Amhara region also have been fighting Tigray ones, but are not represented at the peace talks either. “Amharas cannot be expected to abide by any outcome of a negotiations process from which they think they are excluded,” said Tewodrose Tirfe, chair of the Amhara Association of America.

Police deny role in Miyetti Allah’s security outfit formation
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State, Shehu Umar Nadada, has denied the command’s involvement in the formation of a 1,144-man Fulani Nomad Vigilante team which was recently established in the state by the President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.
CP Nadada disclosed this to Journalists on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the state police command’s headquarters in Lafia.
Bodejo had on January 17 inaugurated the team saddled with the responsibility of fighting against banditry, cattle rustling, and all forms of insecurity in the state.
According to Nadada, the command was not officially notified about the formation of the Fulani Nomad Vigilante team, hence will not be liable for whatever challenges they encounter as a result of their actions.
He said, “I am assuring you that the Nomad Vigilante as they call themselves are on their own. There was no formal report to the police concerning the issue. Nobody wrote to me or called me that he was coming here (command headquarters) for anything.
“We have been working with some vigilante groups that are recognised by the government, but we will not work with any vigilante that is not recognised by the government”
Residents in the state had alleged the involvement of the police in the formation of the nomad vigilante group as officers of the command were seen providing security for them during the inauguration ceremony.
But reacting to the allegation, CP Nadada said the police command provided security at the venue of the inauguration ceremony for the 1,144-man nomad vigilante members in order to avert the breakdown of law and order at the event.
“Nobody informed the command in written form or verbally about the vigilante group, but ordinarily, if there is any gathering like that, we cannot allow people to gather without providing security for them so that hoodlums will not go and hijack the gathering,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Nasarawa State Council, Salihu Alkali, while congratulating the CP for his recent posting to the state, pledged to give the police command the needed cooperation to ensure the success of their programmes.

This Governor is not loud but strong, resilient – Commissioner
Rivers Information Commissioner, Mr Joseph Johnson, said Gov. Siminialaye Fubara was resilient and committed to the development of Rivers.
Johnson said this during an interaction with executives of Rivers Correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, on Friday in Port Harcourt.
The chapel had visited the commissioner to present him with an invitation ahead of their forthcoming Correspondents’ Week in December.
The commissioner assured the chapel of cooperation with journalists, especially representatives of the national dailies in the state.
He also promised to always key into laudable programmes of the group.
According to him, the synergy will assist to reduce unverified news reports about the government.
“Gov. Siminialaye Fubara is not loud but very strong and resilient; he is committed to the development of the state.
“Therefore, we must be able to bond as a family because if we keep bikkering and thinking we are impressing the public with unverified and embellished reportage, we end up hurting our very existence by scaring away potential investors,” he said.
Johnson also said that he was planning a visit to the state commissioner of police to make some appeals and urged force to rejig its crime fighting strategies.
“I will plead with the police to stop parading suspected criminals and allow room for adjudication, as such parades rather created stigma on the status of the state and affected individuals, wether proven guilty or otherwise by competent courts.
“My second appeal would be that the Police stop roadblocks; it’s a lot easier catching a criminal in the act than letting them know that the police had sited a roadblock to hunt them down.
“The police should begin to rejig their entire crime fighting strategies because when crime is reduced, the state will enjoy a more positive ambiance for business and development,” the commissioner added.
Earlier, Mr Amaechi Okonkwo, Chairman of the chapel, commended the commissioner for his willingness to collaborate and promised to uphold the relationship in line with the ethics of journalism. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

General quiz time: which country tops the global corruption table? Which country is the worst for piracy? Which country lost more than 29,000 children under five to famine in 2011? The answer is Somalia, a country of such horror that it has fallen from sight.
James Fergusson, freelance journalist and author of several books on the Taliban, has a talent for shedding light in dark places. None is darker, or more dangerous, in his view, than Somalia, the "outlaw state". While most reporters – and some two million Somalis – have opted to stay away, Fergusson has risked his life to cover the ground and, an even greater achievement, succeeded in making the Somali mess understandable and relevant.
Somalia was two countries during the colonial period and one of the more hopeful African states at independence in 1960. But a military coup at the end of the 60s led to two decades of misrule and corruption, and then to civil war. Much of the tension was caused by inter-clan rivalries. As if that wasn't bad enough, the country then became a happy hunting ground for radical Islamist groups. In southern Somalia, the Salafist Islamic Courts Union imposed a strict sharia. When they were expelled by a liberating Ethiopian force, much of the country then fell even further.
The al-Qaida-affiliated al-Shabaab organisation turned the country into "a zone of total grief", a place where life was short and brutal and where one's brightest hope was martyrdom, although even that prospect was tainted. Islamic martyrs die in the belief that they will be pleasured by 72 virgins in paradise. Fergusson reports that al-Shabaab manipulated this hope by showing recruits films that they claimed were recordings made by martyrs already in heaven, but which were shot in Bollywood. It is this sort of insight, alongside his harrowing account of life in the grief zone – a description of Mogadishu hospitals sticks in the mind – that gives Fergusson's book its power.
Even more troubling, in some ways, is the fact that the grief did not stay at home. Fergusson tracks the Somali diaspora across four continents in an attempt to understand their sense of identity and the ways in which they are led astray. The British ambassador in Somalia talked of "a kind of threat we haven't seen before", a threat beyond borders, with disaffected Somalis involved in many international terror attacks, including the July 2005 London Underground attempts. The more than two million Somalis in Kenya seem particularly vulnerable. As chaos spreads across Africa, from conflict in Mali to hostage-taking in Algeria, and as our prime minister talks of a "large and existential threat… a generational struggle" against jihadis, Fergusson's portraits seem all the more terrifying. But there is hope.
Fergusson's introduction, written as the book went to press last autumn, reports the unexpected retreat of al-Shabaab, whose units had pulled out of Mogadishu. Since then, they have lost their other stronghold of Kismayo to a combined force of Kenyan, Ethiopian and Ugandan-led African Union soldiers. The threat of piracy has also reduced. And Somalia has a new president, elected by MPs and promising to broaden the country's democracy. Trouble continues – there was an assassination attempt on the new president even before he had been sworn in. And it remains to be seen whether the rump of al-Shabaab hardliners continue to fight in Somalia, or whether they unite with other al-Qaida affiliates, Boko Haram in Nigeria and al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb. But the one thing Fergusson's book makes very clear is that unless the country's – and the region's – underlying problems of poverty and lack of education are addressed, David Cameron's prediction of a generational struggle might come to seem optimistic.

Police deny role in Miyetti Allah’s security outfit formation
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State, Shehu Umar Nadada, has denied the command’s involvement in the formation of a 1,144-man Fulani Nomad Vigilante team which was recently established in the state by the President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.
CP Nadada disclosed this to Journalists on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the state police command’s headquarters in Lafia.
Bodejo had on January 17 inaugurated the team saddled with the responsibility of fighting against banditry, cattle rustling, and all forms of insecurity in the state.
According to Nadada, the command was not officially notified about the formation of the Fulani Nomad Vigilante team, hence will not be liable for whatever challenges they encounter as a result of their actions.
He said, “I am assuring you that the Nomad Vigilante as they call themselves are on their own. There was no formal report to the police concerning the issue. Nobody wrote to me or called me that he was coming here (command headquarters) for anything.
“We have been working with some vigilante groups that are recognised by the government, but we will not work with any vigilante that is not recognised by the government”
Residents in the state had alleged the involvement of the police in the formation of the nomad vigilante group as officers of the command were seen providing security for them during the inauguration ceremony.
But reacting to the allegation, CP Nadada said the police command provided security at the venue of the inauguration ceremony for the 1,144-man nomad vigilante members in order to avert the breakdown of law and order at the event.
“Nobody informed the command in written form or verbally about the vigilante group, but ordinarily, if there is any gathering like that, we cannot allow people to gather without providing security for them so that hoodlums will not go and hijack the gathering,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Nasarawa State Council, Salihu Alkali, while congratulating the CP for his recent posting to the state, pledged to give the police command the needed cooperation to ensure the success of their programmes.
