Replacing my bag strap
Unlike many of my clothes and accessories this bag isn't thrifted. It's a bag by Jawbreaker that I absolutely love the look of, it has multiple pockets, tons of space inside, and is clearly great quality as I've had it for over 10 years and it's almost good as new. It's the only handbag I own, and I've no desire to get a new one.
Tumblr media
However the one bit I've had to replace multiple times is the shoulder strap, since that's the bit that gets most wear and tear.
It originally had the kind of strap which clips on, but the problem with those is that after years of metal rubbing against metal, eventually it wears away to the point where the clip is thin enough that it snaps. Last couple of times I just put a new clip on, however this time not only were the clips worn away but so were the d-rings you're supposed to attach them to, so I did a more thorough job.
First of all I unpicked the stitching attaching the d-rings to the bag and replaced them with these large rectangular ones. I always save metal hardware from clothing items I mod or that are finally old and worn enough to be thrown away, and I think these came from a skirt. Happily I had two the same, so I used bits of the old strap which weren't too badly worn to make loops to sew them on.
Tumblr media
I sewed them by hand with thick top-stitch thread doubled over, and I even did those criss-cross stitching lines to make them extra secure.
I then went to a nearby charity shop hoping to find a cheap bag I could steal the strap from, but even better, I came across this belt, the construction of which was extremely similar to the detailing already on the bag. It was £1, way cheaper than a replacement strap from ebay, which I have also bought in the past.
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to cut the buckle off because the belt fabric would fray, so I unpicked the stitching around the buckle instead, and put the buckle away in my crafting box to hopefully reuse in the future - like I said, I save everything.
Tumblr media
I wanted the eyelets on the belt to be visible as they match the rest of the eyelets on the bag, so I put the belt through the rectangle and folded it over as far as I could while still showing all the eyelets, then sewed it shut. Again, I did multiple rows of stitching to keep it secure, and I also oversewed down both sides.
Tumblr media
I don't have a sliding buckle that would enable me to adjust the strap length, but I never adjust my bag strap anyway, so I just put the strap over my shoulder, adjusted it to a length that I liked, and sewed that end together too. This was a long belt so I ended up doubling it over quite far, but that's good as it will make this section of the new strap extra thick, so hopefully it's extra strong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there we go, it looks as if I bought it like this!

Is vulture culture mean to animals?
More people need to understand the difference between overconsumption and recycling when it comes to animal products. I am a bone collector and a furs collector but I refuse to buy from a fur farm-as should everybody-yet some people just don't understand how I could collect animal byproducts without doing that.
Pretty much I live in a mountain woods town and there is roadkill everywhere so it isn't hard to find bones. I only get bones from the ground (meaning already decomposed bodies with no flesh left and they are usually already pretty sun-bleached) and I would consider getting them from ethical hunters if I had the need (meaning hunters who kill animals to feed their family and never take more than they need, they usually use all of the animals and have no problem selling the carcass or the bones and fur if they have the time and energy to skin it themselves).
All of the furs (mostly tails) I have are from ethical farmers or roadkill, I only buy from trusted people who I know didn't get them from a fur farm or aren't a fur farm themself. Most of them are taxidermists (who by the way can be ethical about this too) who found roadkill or had to kill a fox that was eating their chickens or something and decided to use most of the body to honour the dead animal. Admittedly some things do go to waste though like the meat and guts, but in my experience, people usually leave them in the woods for the crows and vultures to eat (or small mammals sometimes).
This is how most vulture culture esc people I know do this and the majority of us do not give in to overconsumption of animal products.
It's actually better in my opinion to use all of the animals like our ancestors did rather than throw it out. Soooo next time you see someone wearing a tail on their backpack or who collects bones or something. Please don't just assume they are anti-vegans and hate animals or something because most of us actually love animals. For me, that's why I do this, to honour the poor dear or possum who fell victim to someone's car. And also remember that not everyone who is not a vegan or vegetarian is eating store-bought animal products, even if most of them are.
PS: I also think everyone should educate themselves on the overconsumption of animal products and think about their actions. I live in Canada so most of what I have learned pertains to that and the Hudson's Bay Company. But even just looking up the type of farm that beef you bought from the store came from is a good idea. If you are uncomfortable eating meat from a place like that, you should think about what you buy. This modern human world is full of overconsumption and disrespect for other animals, 'we' justify it by thinking humans are superior. But how can a species be so cruel and superior? The truth is they can't, we are animals just like the rest of them.

You know what I'm thinking about.
About going green
Vegan
No waste
People convinced me those small acts of doing your little work are worthless. That the big companies are the problem. They are right. Big companies ARE the problem. We should be going to strike. But. In a big scale thing is, in my opinion, that lots and lots of people doing the thing isn't strike? So refusing to buy plastic. Refusing to eat animal products (or reducing to maximum in my case). Refusing to shop from Amazon (when you can afford it). Refusing to buy new cheapest thing and repair the old one (I'm saying the clothes technology is garbage and we know it) or going second hand or going only natural materials (fuck "eko leather")
When lots and lots and lots of people go on the streets is the strike, but lots and lots of people refusing to do the thing is worthless?
Ofc voting and strikes and fighting is activism we need. But hell some people have their own problems and just can't do that.

Process and Progress
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started my Disrupt project with these two basic materials.
I turned them into a 3 D piece.
Tumblr media
I then did a drawing of it and brought it back to 2D
Tumblr media
Because I changed my brief to omit this piece, I decided to Disrupt it by taring and cutting it up.
Tumblr media
I didnt want to waste it so I turned it back into a 3D swingy swing, with a bit of wire that I found.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I am back to 3D.
There is movement now.
Tumblr media
Now there is colour and light.
Tumblr media
This is light and shadow.
I need to do more in the photography studio, with a better camera.
But, I am happy that what started as very basic materials have gone through a few lovely processes.
I am so looking forward to the next installation.

Really interesting finds!
On my walk to the bus stop today I came across some stuff that the neighbors had put to the side of the road. The metal shelf/rack is what really caught my eye before anything else did; if you can’t tell it’s a very dark green with leaves all over it.
The white stand was the second thing to catch sense I’ve been looking for a drying stand for clothes so the dryer doesn’t degrade the designs of my tshirts or wear out the elastic bands in my boxers. It might need some really light repairs like paint touch up but I’ll have to really stop back by and look. I literally did a drive by look as I was walking and only stopped for the few seconds it takes for my camera to focus the best it can on it.
The poor lady in the car… I think I scared her or made her nervous by taking a picture. I didn’t even notice she was there until we locked eyes 😅.

One of my favorite meals at the Grange was pierogies with haluska from Helen's stand. Last year Helen passed away and Rosie's pierogies took over her spot. Of course I had to try them but was very disappointed. No onion and very little butter on the perogies and the Haluska was very plain and seemed under cooked. So I brought it home and today I tried to doctor it up and was very successful. Started by grilling some onions in bacon grease then added the perogies followed shortly after by the Haluska. The onion and bacon fat gave the noodles a nice flavor and the bit of grilled char on the perogies was a game changer. This was just half so 2nd supper is going to be awesome later tonight!
