Friday nights were always packed at Diosa since you had started managing the place, and tonight was no different. You walked confidently up the long hall from your office, into the buzzing lobby full of your girls flirting with the clientele, music blaring and drinks flowing.
You had really made a turn of the place since taking over the business alongside Nero, Jax gifted you his share after you’d given up your previous job for the club. You both had agreed you’d stop working in the escort industry, and although the money you made was a huge loss to your lifestyle, you were willing to do it to be his old lady.
You used everything you had learned from your old life to create an enhanced version of Diosa, one that was inclusive and prioritised the women you hired, as a result it was utterly thriving. The Club was grateful for it too, they spent countless hours swooning over the amazing girls you hired, who were only the best of the best. You were a staple within the SAMCRO Charter after the years you and Jax had been together. You were known as the main handler of all things outside club business. The men of the Club respected you, the girls of Diosa wanted to be you, and in all honesty you had never been happier.
The only thing different about tonight was that the Club wasn’t here. Jax and the guys were finishing a run down south near the border, and although you never asked for details, you knew the fact the entire crew had to be there meant it was a big one.
The men who frequented Diosa knew not to step out of line as they feared the consequences that could follow with it being a known SAMCRO hot spot. When the Club’s presence wasn’t intimidating the clientele, you found the likes of all types walking through your doors, from in and outside of Charming. This never did concern you, knowing you could handle yourself and almost anything you couldn’t was easily taken care of with the backing of the Club behind you.
You helped the girls on the bar with the demand, assisting pouring drinks and taking cash. The reason your girls worked here and nowhere else was because you treated them like humans, and they loved you for it. You demanded they have respect from the clients, and their thanks to you was the huge profit they made.
You walked from one end of the lobby to the other, helping the bar staff and listening in on your girls' conversations with their clients. A group of men you hadn’t seen before caught your attention as they walked through the entrance. They were six tall and pretty handsome guys, though they seemed a little rough around the edges. They were suited in leather and denim, their patches reading “VAGOS”. You’d heard the name from conversations with Jax and your time with the Club, but had never seen them in Charming before. They were known for dealing with the cartels further south of California. Not the exact kind of people you wanted in Diosa without The Club around, but you weren’t about to turn away the potential cash they had to spend.
Nero leaned over the bar, speaking to you as he eyed the men up. “Maybe we should call The Club.”
You shook your head at him as you continued to pour drinks, “No no, don’t bother The Club. Nothing we can’t handle.”
You strutted over to the group, a tray of drinks in hand, smiling politely. “Welcome to Diosa. The girls are just this way, treat them right and they’ll do the same.” You gestured towards the available rooms. The tallest member of the group smiled back at you, “We appreciate your hospitality.” You noticed the patch on his front stating ‘PRESIDENT’. The men nodded thankfully, and took the drinks from your tray as they dispersed into the lobby. The pack’s leader stayed behind, lingering at the bar.
You walked back to Nero, who was now at the front desk watching the exchange. “They won’t be any trouble.”, you assured him.
Nero laughed softly, “you do have a way with men, chica. But these guys are from way south, they ain’t no joke.”
“They don’t look so big and bad to me”, you shrugged.
“Just keep a close eye on them, any funny business and they’re out of here.”
“You know I don’t put up with bullshit, Nero.” You smiled at him reassuringly, as you turned on your heels, heading back towards the bar.
The President was still there, drinking a straight whiskey from a short glass, watching the girls around the lobby do their thing. On occasion his eyes would meet yours, and you could sense the meaning behind them when he held your stare.
You and Jax had agreed you wouldn’t get involved with the clientele, not only for Jax but because you were done with that life. You were happy to flirt and tease the clients, but it never went further than that, and it definitely wasn't a good idea to get involved with the President of another gang.
You continued to work throughout the night, kicking out belligerent drunks and handling business as usual. You were headed back behind the bar when the leader interrupted you, “you’re Teller's old lady, ain’t that right?” He seemed curious in tone, and despite the fuck-me-eyes, you didn’t get the sense that this guy was at all threatening.
“That's me. Seen any girls you like?”
"I sure have." His eyes scrolled up and down your body as he spoke.
You shook your head at him. "I just run this place. But if you follow me, I can get you a room with our finest girl."
He ignored your offer, “what’s a fine woman like you doing with a guy like that? You could get any man in California and instead you’re with a SON?”
You looked at him warily, unimpressed by his blatant disrespect towards Jax. You were used to the harmless flirting and banter from your clientele, but this guy was just rude.
“Is there something wrong with Presidents of Motorcycle Clubs?”, sarcasm plaguing your tone.
He raised his eyebrows chuckling, “and where is the Pres? I don’t see him here..”, he looked around the lobby, searching for someone he knew he wouldn’t find. “How about you come sit on me instead.”
You scoffed at his advance, turning toward one of your staff before you left the bar. “Could you get this President another drink, Mandy?”
Mandy was the hardest working girl on your staff. She was utterly gorgeous with long flowing black hair and a smile all the men swooned for. She had stepped back from working in the rooms to your dismay, but she was too good to let go. As a result she ended up in charge of the bar, handling takings and stock, and she really enjoyed it. You both had known each other long before Diosa, and you knew she could handle him.
Mandy answered you with a grin and nodded to the man, “what can I get for you?”
He smiled back at her and asked for another whiskey, watching you storm off towards your office. He seemed generally harmless even if he was rude as hell, but there was something about him made your skin crawl.
Your cell phone started to ring in your back pocket as you moved down the hallway. The feeling of unease disappeared as soon as you heard his voice on the other end of the line.
“How’s my girl?”
You slumped into your office chair, calm instantly. “Missing you.”
“Me too, darlin’. We thought we’d be heading back by now but there’s been more heat than we expected.”
“When will you be home?”
“Looking like tomorrow now. Really sorry, babe. How’s Diosa?”
You felt there was no point in giving him details about the gang members in the lobby, it would just be another thing for him to worry about.
“Busy as usual” you beamed. “I’ll be counting down the hours till you're back.”
“I’ll be there before you know it. Get home safe, okay?”
“You too. Love you.”
“Love you more, babe.”
You put your phone in your back pocket and headed out of the office, bracing yourself for the next annoying thing the drunk President at your bar had to say. As you walked through the long hallway back to the lobby, you could see him standing in the entry way. There was no way you could avoid him as he was totally blocking your exit.
“You lost? The girls are this way.” You pointed towards the lobby, hoping he’d follow. Instead, he moved inward, eliminating the space between you both.
“Actually I was looking for you, sweetheart.” He placed his hand along the back of your thigh, trying to bring you closer.
You pulled back from him, removing his hand sharply. “We have plenty of girls who will interest you. I’ll show you the way.” You tried to squeeze past him, looking for an escape.
He put his arm across your chest, placing his hand on the wall, making it impossible for you to move. He was looking down at you, his eyes dark and cloudy from the whiskey. The feeling that this man wasn’t a threat to you now waivered. This wasn’t a guy you wanted to be alone with.
“My interest has already peaked, little lady.”
You pushed his arm off your chest, snapping back at him, “I said I’m not available."
He leaned further into you, whispering in your ear, "I know old lady's like you can keep a secret, sweetheart. Nobody's gotta know."
You pushed with all your weight against his chest, and with the help of the several whiskey's he'd had, you managed to knock him unstable, and he fumbled into the wall. "I said no. Now you and your guys need to get out of here.”
He stood himself up straight, scoffing in disgust. “So much for hospitality. You ain’t nothing special anyway.”
He stomped off into the lobby as he called out to the other members. “Let’s go. We’re leaving this shithole.”
They quickly followed, a few of them protesting as they had to leave the ladies behind. The President looked over his shoulder at you as the members ran out the door, any kindness completely void in his eyes. He slammed the entrance door behind them, and they were gone.
Nero looked over to you from the front desk as he watched you at the bar, pouring yourself a shot of bourbon. “What the fuck did I miss?”
You had taken two shots by the time you responded. “Just an unwanted advance and an extremely fragile ego.” You took another shot, ignoring the burning as the liquid made its way down your throat. “I’m fine.”
“Knew those guys were assholes. You should head home, I’ll close up tonight.”
“You sure? I’m okay, honest. I can stay with you.”
He shook his head, “just get home and let me know when you’re back safe.” He took the bottle from you, placing it back behind the bar.
“Thanks, Nero. Really appreciate you.”
You knocked back your final shot before leaving Diosa for the night.

Kenna (Murph): I've heard you bringing up like, family and stuff a lot? And… I don't-- I don't totally know how to say this, but do you think that I could show you something through like your spores thing? Do you think it works like that? Sol (Caldwell): I mean, we can certainly try, I'm not really sure what all it's capable of, but… yeah! Let's give it a go! Murph: You hop off the treadmill, you see Kenna walks up, puts her hands on your head, um, and then rests her head against them. And you feel a sudden [whoosh, snaps] jolt as you are pulled into one of Kenna's memories. [The Gunslinger's Girl plays softly in the background] Murph: And you see Jaina Bronzebeard, looking over some kind of city plans in her study in like the Irondeep Castle, she's looking all stressed out. And then you see… Kenna enters the room. You see Kenna is wearing like, civilian clothes, just like a regular tunic and no plate mail. And Jaina goes-- Jaina (Murph): Shouldn't you be out in the yard sparring? Murph: And Kenna looks down. Kenna: I'm.. I'm leaving Irondeep. My… My father's been sending me money, and I-- I bribed one of the couriers and they… they told me where I could find him. So I'm-- I'm gonna go to Ezry. And I'm gonna look for him. Murph: Jaina puts down her work and nods, and sort of crosses her arms and thinks and goes-- Jaina: Well has, um, has he reached out to you at all? Or… or are you the one that is doing all the work? Murph: And Kenna looks down again, kind of not wanting to answer. And Jaina gets up from her desk, walks around, and kneels next to the young squire. And goes-- Jaina: I will not tell you what to do. If you choose to go to Ezry to look for him, I will charter the airship myself. But I-- I wanna tell you something. I have had two little sisters in my life. One shared a family name with me, and the other did not. One liked jewels in her beard and music and dancing, and the other liked hammers and plate mail and sparring. Murph: And she sort of pats on Kenna. Jaina: And she wanted very much to be a knight. I would hate to see her throw that dream away. And I would hate to lose another sister. Murph: Kenna just breaks down crying and buries her face in Jaina's chest, and Jaina brings her in, kind of holds her for a moment, and then Jaina pulls back and makes eye contact with her, and goes-- Jaina: The gods do not decide who is and isn't family. Murph: And you [whoosh, music ends] come out of the trance, and see Kenna standing there, kind of awkwardly and teary eyed. Kenna: So, yeah, that's… just, I thought maybe… Sol: No, yeah, no, that's-- Kenna: Yeah. Sol: I know that you call yourself a squire but… I can see it, everyone can see it, you've got a knight's heart beating proudly under that iron. Kenna: Thank you for saying that, Mr. Bufo! And-- Sol: Just call me Sol. Kenna: (laughs) That's gonna be a hard habit to break Mr B-- Sol. Sol. [Caldwell laughs] Murph: And you see she goes over to her like, pack, and she goes-- Kenna: Anyway, I-- I found some old books in the equipment bags. Murph: And you see she pulls out a copy of The Boy Wizard and his Frog Pal. And she hands it to you. Sol: Oh! Oh gosh, this old thing. Kenna: Hey man, I know the monsters weren't real at Launchpad, but I thought the main characters were very believable as brothers. Sol: You're right. Thank you for reminding me, you know, no matter how much we loose, we gotta hold on to what we have and we gotta… double down on those connections. I'm really glad that we got to meet you. I'm really glad you're here. Kenna: Thanks big bro! Murph: Um, gives you a big hug.

Hey would you mind if you could do a Vtsom headcanon? Which character does like to be hug and able to give hug as affection to Y/N or Mc? (I don't know exactly how to describe it)
Ofc! I was surprised that I got a Vtsom request so soon since it’s pretty underrated. But ofc we love to hug some of these charters. Take ‘em to therapy while we’re at it 😔For the sake of it we will be doing are main 3 bois. 👹👌🏻
Order up!
Hug rating headcanons
Fandom: VTSOM
Charters:

Draco Edgeworth
Theme: fluff
Vincent Edgeworth
5/10
.This man sucks tbh 🫡
.He dose not seem to be a very affectionate person at first
. Or at least was never given that much physical attention in his life
. But if you normally show affection like hugs or cuddling he might try and sneak in a hug
.mostly his hugs can be stiff but once he gets use to it
.you might as well drop what you’re doing
. His hugs become really warm and you just melt
. One time you got scared when he hugged you from the back
. But when you felt his arms around your waist while his head was laying on your shoulder
. You never felt safer
.Its a 50/50 if his hugs are really affectionate
.But he normally gets stunned when you give him a hug
.He will just stand there one arm rapped around you while the other lays on your head
“good day love. I wouldn’t mind if you rest with me. I don’t want you overworking yourself. Not when I am here to take care of you.”
Tumblr media
Draco Edgeworth
Slightly better then his brother 7/10
.Even tho like his brother he didn’t really get that much physically attention
. He is slightly more open to these type of things
.tho the main problem is that his normally to busy to give you hugs
. A quick hug or peck on the cheek is the best you can do
. So it’s normally you giving him the hugs
.But it’s really sweet when he hugs you
.like when he comes back home after leaving all day
. You were right there sitting on the couch reading.
. He walked over siting beside you
.Before you could of ask how he was-
. He wrapped his hands over your shoulders resting his face over your own
. He pulled you close hugging you there for over a minute or so before saying something
“I missed you love..can we stay like this for a little more.?”
“Of course Draco. You can rest all you want. Before you went back to reading. The silence was peaceful.”
Tumblr media
Victor Blake
The best mf 9/10
.He is the one to hug you.
Day.afternoon.night
. His love language is definitely Physical touch
. He loves to hug you before picking you up bridesmaid style.
. It becomes a daily thing for him to hug whenever he can
. Tho he can be slightly flustered when you are the one hugging him
.Normal front face hugging and back hugging is what he dose
. Even those hugs when you run up and jump into his arms while he holds your thighs so you don’t fall
.one if not the most affectionate guy you have met
. It was a normal early morning . You were walking around the house looking for Victor
.And to your lovely surprised he was standing near the counter with lazy eyes and coffee
.You walked over wrapping around him while your still sleepy self, laying your head on to his chest
. You heard him place his coffee down
.Wrapping his hands on your neck. His arms lazying hanging beside your head. using your Shoulders as support
. Placing his head onto of your own resting his head and eyes
“Still sleepy? No worries love you can stay here with me. You and I can stay like this for as long as you want.”

I need to keep drawing since I have zero ideas.💟

The Cinque Ports
The Cinque Ports (five ports) were a confederation in the English counties of Kent and Sussex. The military and economic alliance of the five founding members represented an influential political power in late medieval England. The founding date of this alliance is not known exactly, but it is assumed that an economic alliance existed before the Norman invasion of 1066. The founding members included the ports of Dover, Hastings, Hythe, Romney (modern name New Romney) and Sandwich. As Hastings was not so conveniently situated, the towns of Rye and Winchelsea were later added, but Hastings was given the alliance seat.
Tumblr media
(x)
The alliance was first officially mentioned in a royal charter in 1155. In it, the members undertook to put ships at the disposal of the Crown when it needed them. The main focus was on protection against Danish attacks. As England did not have a permanent navy at the time, the king depended on the port cities to provide him with ships and crews.
In return, the king granted the cities extensive rights. They were allowed to govern themselves in many areas, were exempt from numerous taxes and duties and assumed jurisdiction over their seamen. The latter meant that criminal seamen could only be prosecuted and punished by the cities, not by the crown. This meant that piracy and smuggling flourished and were tolerated, as they brought the cities high revenues. In addition, the cities were allowed to take possession of flotsam after one year. Stranded ships could be plundered immediately, so that the rumour arose that allegedly false beacons were lit along the coast to deliberately run ships aground, but whether this was really true is questionable. The towns gained wealth and influence through these powers, especially Hastings (as the seat of the Alliance) and New Romney (as the most important port).
As early as the 12th century, the office of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports was created. He was entrusted with the administration of the cities of the Alliance as well as their jurisdiction. Due to his extensive autonomy from the crown, he was long considered the most important ruler in England after the king. After the expansion of the Cinque Ports in the 15th century, almost all of Kent and Sussex fell within his sphere of influence.
Towards the end of the 14th century, the decline of the Cinque Ports began. Several ports began to silting up and became unusable over time. In addition, from the 15th century onwards, much larger ships were introduced for which the port facilities of the Cinque Ports were not equipped. An attempt was made to counteract these developments by admitting seven other ports, which were politically connected to the original members, into the alliance as corporate members. These were: Deal and Ramsgate (to Sandwich), Faversham, Folkestone and Margate (near Dover), Lydd (to New Romney) and Tenterden (to Rye).
Tumblr media
A typical Cinque Port Cog early 14th century. This type of ship was represented in many countries and was also used by many similar alliances such the Hanseatic League.  (x)
However, the expansion of the alliance did not bring long-term success. In the 16th century, the Royal Navy was officially established, a permanent English navy that made the provision of ships and crews by the Cinque Ports redundant. Because of this development, most of their privileges were eventually taken away. Cities such as Portsmouth and Bristol now developed into centres of shipbuilding and soon surpassed the south-east English port cities in size and importance.
The Cinque Ports with its 14 members still exists today. The main task today is economic cooperation between the port cities of South East England. The office of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports was increasingly curtailed in the course of the 18th and 19th centuries and today has only a symbolic character.

hello,  thank  you  for  your  inquiry! :>  it's  not  rude,  no  worries.  our  plans  was  to  always  start  the  game,  regardless  of  whether  or  not  all  the  roles  were  filled.  we  came  in  knowing  this  is  a  niche  fandom  in  the  horror  rp  scene  on  tumblr,  with  barriers  such  as  lore  accessibility  for  the  general  public.  additionally,  i’m  not  discouraged  by  these  things!  the  last  game  i  ran  started  with...  5  active  accounts?  and  then  we  organically  grew  to  25+  players,  haha!  so  rest  assured,  i’ve  chartered  the  course. additionally,  we  made  the  conscious  choice  to  place  our  cast  of  characters  in  a  mobile  task  force,  as  in  the  lore,  these  teams  have  members  joining  and  leaving  at  any  time.  in  the  case  we  lose  a  role  or  gain  a  role,  we  have  measures  set  in  place  so  there  is  no  plot  regression  or  overwriting  canon.  new  players  will  have  a  smooth  transition  into  the  game.  this  is  a  limited-run  game,  so  while  people  might  miss  out  on  the  first  event  (and  i  personally  think  it’s  a  banger!)  if  they  do  not  app  this  round,  there  will  always  be  other  opportunities  to  join  the  fun  before  the  game  ends! we  really  hope  everyone  who  is  lurking  considers  apping  for  our  first  round  of  acceptances.  we  will  be  closing  our  submit  box  on  2/12/2024  at  11:59  PM  PST,  and  then  review  all  the  applications.  after  concluding  follow-up  questions  and  setting  an  acceptance  date,  we'll  post  all  accepted  apps,  update  our  main,  and  drop  our  prologue  teaser!  the  game  is  going  full-speed  ahead! :>

Babel - R.F. Kuang
Short review:
It took me six months to finish this book. I never DNFd it because I did like the characters and I wanted to see what happened to them. This book was intriguing and thought provoking and dealt with what could be considered delicate points very head on and very impressively. The point and subject matter of this book were very well done, my issues with it were more with the story and the writing itself. I understand why the timeline in this book was set up this way, with us starting with the main character, Robin, when he was a child and following him through almost every year of his life until the end of the book, however it took me until the last three-ish pages to understand why. It felt like we would focus on less important years in his life and then skip years while he was at Oxford, arguably the most important of his years in the book. I wonder if the ending impact would had been the same if the book started with his final year at Oxford and we saw flashbacks to his previous years. There were also times we were told instead of shown such as about Robin and his friends having inside jokes and laughing until they cried in the early hours of the morning, but we never saw those jokes. It made the characters fall a bit flat when dramatic things happened. That being said, I did cry at the end of this book and was very shocked by the major plot points. I also really enjoyed getting to see how drastically Robin had changed at the end of the book and being able to see what kind of path he had chosen to take, which could be considered as not the usual path of a hero. The other thing that bothered me was the magic system. This may have been an issue on my part, but it was hard for me to understand how the silver bars worked and predict what the charters could do with the bars to get out of predicaments. Maybe people with more language experience than me could understand it better. Overall, I think Babel is an interesting step into a world of could-have-been and deals with many hard hitting topics very importantly and in unexpected ways.

the outing of dr jekyll
Tumblr media
I do not believe the strange case of dr jekyll & mr hyde to be a mystery book or, actually, i don’t believe the mystery itself to be the relevant part of the book: there are plenty of themes one could analyse when talking about this book, that are much more interesting than the mystery itself. One of the main topics of the book can be summarised in the following question: how far can we take scientific progress and at what point along the way do we leave morality behind? We could therefore talk about Jekyll’s character, about how he was a clever man, profoundly aware of the psychology of the human being, but not in the same way every person does: he was not a human being experiencing humanity in maybe a slightly more aware manner, he was a scientist who had a subject of study he gradually became obsessed with.
This is a valid interpretation, but not the only one. The one i prefer is actually opposite to this, it sees jekyll as extremely human, fragile and maybe even irrational: i am talking about the queer interpretation of the book. I’d like to start by pointing out how strictly man-centred the whole work is: we are in the Victorian age, meaning that women never really had that much space in literature, but they were usually at least mentioned as love interests. Here, instead, they are barely even servants. There might be a total of three women mentioned in the whole book, and none of them even has a name. The only one that has some kind of role is a maid who has the sole purpose of witnessing the murder Hyde commits, something that I actually believe to be relevant to prove my point. When describing what happened she says that the victim, sir danvers carew, approached Hyde with a “very pretty manner of politeness”, he seemed to be asking for directions without actually caring about them, as if it was only an excuse. What seems to have happened is that an older man approached a younger one to get something from him, but the latter rejected him and, being mr hyde, beat him to death. On the other hand, though, the encounter might not have been that casual, since utterson will later reveal to the reader that he had introduced carew to jekyll a long time ago. Might it have been that Jekyll had pursued a romantic interest he had in carew through hyde, only for it to terribly degenerate?
The point I am trying to make is that, maybe, what jekyll wanted to bottle up in hyde was not just anger, but mostly fear, fear of his desires and sexual preferences. Hyde is indeed described as “ashamed of his urges” and “filled with nothing but hatred and fear”.
Apart from this encounter, that can still totally be up to interpretation, something that, in my opinion, hints at jekyll’s homosexuality are two sentences a friend of utterson’s said in the very first chapter, when talking about hyde: “blackmail, i suppose; an honest man paying through the nose for some of the capers of his youth, Black Mail House is what i call the place with the door, in consequence”, and “the more it looks like queer street, the less i ask”. In both quotes, the historical context certain words are said in is the key to their understanding, but let's unpack them separately.
The first quote is said while wondering what can connect such a respectable man with such a despicable one. Our 21st century brain would make us think that hyde could simply have some non-specified dirt on jekyll and is using it against him, but let me take you to the late 19th century, to 1885 to be specific, just some months before the book was written, when the Labouchere Amendment was passed, also known as the Blackmailer’s charter, which “made all homosexual acts of ‘gross indecency' illegal”. Mentioning blackmailing at that time was immediately connected to this law, as it was very easy to accuse a man of this crime, and even without getting him actually prosecuted or condemned to hard labour, you could still easily destroy that worshipped reputation the victorians were absolutely terrified of ruining. The fact that blackmailing is the first thing they think about, might actually say a lot about Jekyll, his friends might have already been suspicious, something that I think is also hinted at in some dialogues between jekyll and utterson in which they carefully avoid giving an actual name to what is left as a phantom menace that utterson believes to be the reason behind his friend’s weird attachment to that man.
(https://www.parliament.uk/about/living-heritage/transformingsociety/private-lives/relationships/collections1/sexual-offences-act-1967/1885-labouchere-amendment/ )
Moving on to the second quote, the key world is queer. The term queer comes from the german term twerh, “oblique”. It was borrowed from Scottish first and from English then, with the meaning of "strange, peculiar, odd, eccentric". In the late 19th and especially 20th century it started to be used as a derogatory term to refer to gay men, while, talking about contexts, nowadays it lost its negative connotation, and simply indicates anyone who does not identify as heterosexual and/or cisgender. To further analyse this quote, I found an “etymonline” page to be very useful, since it specifically talks about a “Queer Street” as “the imaginary place where persons in difficulties and shady characters lived”. It had a general meaning of off the tracks, contrary to what one could expect and desire, far away from a respectable life.
The term queer appears multiple other times, one of jekyll’s servants says that “there was something queer about that gentleman”, and in the original manuscript he even said that the mirror in jekyll’s bedroom “has seen some queer doings”. Why would Stevenson change “queer doings” to “strange things”, if by queer he only meant “odd”? I personally do not believe that he intended the two words as synonymous, also considering that the first draft also talked about jekyll as a “slave of certain appetites” already “from an early age”.
In my personal opinion, what the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde silently talks about, is the shame and desperation that came (and still comes) with queerness, the inability of recognizing it as an element of your identity, and therefore trying it all to get rid of it, the illusion of being able to just rip it out of yourself, in order to live a normal and acceptable life. It is about human beings being irrevocably delusional while thinking that having to live a double life can smoothly fade into splitting the rotten side of your being from yourself and leaving it to its devilish tendencies, and the disenchantment of doing so only to find out you are left with emptiness, that that despair did not come from your corrupted nature, but from your attempt of corrupting it. To use jekyll’s words, “If each, I told myself, could be housed in separable identities, life would be relieved of all that was unbearable”. But how can we expect to bear anything at all, where do we expect to find the strength we need in ordered to do so, if we have already shattered and weakened our soul by ripping out what we do not like about it?
Jekyll’s pain and dissatisfaction is what leads him to create Hyde in the first place, but this decision ends up creating him even more troubles and suffering. He even gets sick during the story, apparently due to the potion he takes to switch from one persona to the other, but you can kind of guess that there is more to it, that it all starts from a lack of psychological well being, from the fact that jekyll has yes, certainly corrupted the human nature and altered untouchable laws, but above all, he has betrayed himself, he attempted to repress his nature, to reshape his identity. He eventually understood that he could not live his life as a half, and decided that this meant that he could not live that life at all, giving up everything in order to suffocate the violence that exploded from his other rejected and mistreated half. In my opinion, the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde was a heartbreaking story of pain and fault, despair and sin, fear and disguise. It is the story of a man who, in his words, is “the chief of sinners” and therefore “the chief of sufferers also”.

I can't be the only one who got into the witcher fandom mostly through fanfics, and assumed that the Witchers of kear morhen ( not just due to the Warlord AU but all of its influence) were the main characters of The Witcher, when, through my year of exploring my hyperfixation discovered they are in like one chapter of the books and only a few quests in the games, and now I'm wondering why we can't get a bunch of fics for the Hanza, or the elves or any of the other amazing minor charters in this series to get super popular, but then I realized the reason they did get so popular was that it was riding the zeitgeist so much, ( not saying they are badly written at all I just am not an AU fan)
Yeah, alas, it's the same reason why the ratio of Geraskier to non-Geraskier Witcher fics on ao3 is so insane.
2020 pitched the migratory slash fans into the Witcher and a lot of them stuck around long enough to care about any potential m/m ship.
Except for the really cool ones with old, mean men.

X/1999 Facts about X character designs and concept.
The characters now was a lot different from the characters from the originals for Fuma, Fuma was originally brighter like Segawa and wasn’t that tall closer in to Kamui back then Kamui and Fuma were like the boys in Gakuen Tokkei Dukylon. Ohkawa made a lot of strong silent types after they came up with the bulletin. Kamui and Fuma were born in the newer story and the basics of Kamui and Fuma's relationship were in the prototype in middle school.
In creating Kamui they wanted to create a character with a lot of good qualities and loads of vices, Kamui stands out as a individual in his surrounding at the same time is a hero whose hairstyle, appearance and manner of speech is average Calmp wanted to create his school uniform to have no button has has intense tsurime eyes. Mokona says the type of individuality is the way hes cast as a hero who is dealing with psychic powers Hes supposed to have a average design referencing the modern setting but stands out as an individual in that respect due to his role as a hero.
The charterers that had been around the longest is Nataku who has been around the longest, Ohkawa came up with him in middle School
Yuuto was a crossover character from Clamps previous works the Hagunsei Seki doujinshi.
Arashi and Sorata came from a Romeo and Juliet story that was never published, Arashi was the heroine but was completely different she was part of the yakuza and had a different temperament being quiet but really spontaneous. Sorata was a prototype that was actuality a cop.
Yuzuriha surname might be came from tsubaki nekoi herself she named a character after herself that is not a stretch for clamp to name there characters after a person they know. the character Aoki in X was named after Clamp's editor of the Kadokawa magazine Seichirou Aoki they named there own character after him.
Besides Devil man who was the main influences for the two leads and main plot of X/1999 Jojo’s Bizarre adventure Stardust Crusaders Kakyoin and Jotaro were influences for the characters. Yuzuriha backstory is similar to kakyoiun, Yuzuriha reflects how people cannot see her supernatural canine companion Inuki much like how people cannot see Kakyoin's stand as a child.
Yuzuriha and Kusanagi relationship is similar to Jotaro and Kakyoin that go from foes to friends because they share spiritual abilities but cannot become allies as long as the dragons of earth and heaven oppose each other.

Just a moment to talk about how TommyInnit is my least favorite character and how the fandom has supplanted their DSMP character over the actual person.
[In this, I am referring to the content creators by their first names, rather than "c!" or "cc!" to illustrate what lines have been blurred. If it looks weird to read, that line has been crossed. I think if I did the normal "!" indicator, it feeds into the confusion more that helps here]
Tom has become the focus of a bit of an argument among his fans over how he has been bullied and manipulated by Clay. If the wording looks confusing, yeah it is. The same confusion one could take away if referring to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's relationship as borderline romantic and all you've seen of their work is in "The Hobbit". The DSMP is full of content creators that have their own lives, but are friends and colleagues  first. They have over the last 3 years created a world that millions of people have come to enjoy. One of the stories that many have taken to be the "main story" is based around a late addition to the server, Tom's character, TommyInnit. Clay's character, Dream is the namesake of the story's server. Tom messaged him to be a part of the server and after seeing some of Tom's other videos and finding them funny, Clay invited Tom and when he logged in, Tom started his bit. While Tom is kind and courteous, TommyInnit is a fucking menace. As TommyInnit, Tom acts like a entitled brat, bullies everyone he meets and gets disciplined by the adults and goes back to do it again. Tom invites his friends join, including one adult that acted like they encouraged TommyInnit to engage in criminal behavior. When thwarted, TommyInnit and his friends build a fort where they established a nationalist European ethnostate that rebuked the adults of the indigenous population. They went to war and in an incredible bit of character development, TommyInnit gave up something important to him so they could keep the nation they had carved out. And fans loved it. L'Manburg became a symbol and they propped up as a great nation.  To this day, mention of it in chat elicits "o7" and has inspired art and music lauding how beloved it has become, failing in seeing how flawed its charter and claims were from the start.
This is also where the community began to really mutate Clay and his character, Dream, into one concept. And part of this is on Clay. At the time, he had chosen privacy, and unlike other folks streaming with facecams, he chose not to stream at all. He could take the role of a villain because it allowed him to maintain that anonymity, not be the focus of everyone's streams and still work on his own channel and growth. When you don't control the narrative, others write it for you. And TommyInnit and his friends called Dream a villain with the sort of delivery that electrified his fans into Dream "antis" and because nuance is lost on some folks, antis to Clay as well. Dream was just as much Clay's identity everywhere else and as Dream's character applied more authority over TommyInnit, the more mutated and monstrous his depictions became. Some were really cool, but Dream was no longer being treated like a human. He was an abomination to be feared and maligned and this carried over into perceptions of Clay.
Currently, I am seeing some folks in the fandom that have completely bought into the unhealthy relationship TommyInnit has with Dream and implying a character's poor judgement should apply to how Tom thinks of Clay. Ignoring any other collabs they have done before. That they are friends and really looking forward to meeting each other. Grieved together with their friends when Techno passed away. Writing their stories together, and have fun doing streams. Tom regularly checked in on Clay when he is going through shit and they talk like normal people, sometimes for hours about their work and their ideas. Have been genuine to each other and know a lot of what fans don't and will likely never know. Being trusted and a confidant, even in the face of the spears of the world. Tom is like this with all his friends. Ranboo and Toby may have their differences right now, but he makes time for both of them. He's a good guy with the understanding beyond his years sometimes. He's learned and grown a lot and it makes sense that he is ignoring pressure to abandon his friends. In his latest lore stream, I think Tom took a jab at his fandom. TommyInnit's hatred of Dream is now obsessive. There isn't any rationality to it. He spends every waking moment thinking about him, stalking and wants to destroy him. Willing to drag others into their obsession too. Tom has learned from Wilbur. How to hold a mirror up to his audience and see if they pass the Mark Test. Many have totally failed, partially because they chose to boycott the stream, because hate Clay so much, but plan to watch it later or read summaries because they missed the point. That's what I think some of that call Tom had with Clay was. How to make folks just a little more self-aware. Tom knows what is going on and has not ignored it. He addresses it everytime he streams and gives fans nothing after they treat him like a child, ignore his agency and try to get him to reject his friends. Those fans treat him the way they accuse Dream of treating TommyInnit. And such an irony is hard to ignore.

I would love to hear more about your NSR swap AU! I love the designs for all of them!!
Thank you! Sad to say a lot of them are going to be changed at some point lol! But glad you like what I came up with so far!
Anyway, with my swap AU, it was really a mix of a few swaps which I think made me upset with the overall feel of the AU. It swapped themes, people's roles, music genre, and personalities (and ages for some of the characters). I should have stuck to only one or two of those categories and not mix them all up together.
I mean, I can definitely mix them all up, there's nothing stopping me, but I like AUs where only one thing changed and you get a huge snowball effect! Though that is much more difficult to do with swap AUs I feel.
There's a lot to go on with swap AUs I feel, and I just wanted to put them all together. Here are some of the main things I did, not including everything"
-Roles were swapped (Tatiana/Kul Fyra is in Kliff's role and Eve is in Tatiana's role)
-Genre swapped (it's now B2J EDM vs NSR Rock, but I scrapped that in my head soon after posting about my swap AU)
-Themes (Sayu is plant, Neon/1010 are space, Yinu is navy/sailor)
-And personalities (May is the chill one and Zuke is the hyper one, also May is older while Zuke is younger).
And like... I just did not like putting ALL of these things together. I am debating on just scrapping the AU and starting fresh. If I do, I think I would keep the swapped themes for the most part and either keep personalities or maybe swap them? I don't know.
I also don't know if I want to swap roles anymore? I like Nadia being the head of NSR and Kul Fyra being May's adoptive mom, which I can only see if Kul Fyra is not Tatiana. Because I don't want to swap just one role and not swap others, I want it to be consistent.
I was also thinking of just swapping instruments to see what that could be like. Say, something like 1010 using body and mind, Sayu using the Orbital DJ-9000, or Eve using the Pyun Pyun Trident (all having different names). This alone changes the boss fights and possibly the personalities of the charters, but I don't really know how it would work.
All I do really know is I want to keep 1010 with the space theme and pompous assholes. I don't know if I want to keep them EDM or Rock, switch their instruments, or swap their role with DJSS fully.
I also know I want to keep Yinu and Mama as robot/cyborg, but that I am more willing to change if I end up doing something robot related for Sayu. Since I want to keep the robot/AI theme to only 2 bosses like it is in the original game.
So yeah, I don't really know what my swap AU is all about right now. Sorry to disappoint. I really only have 1010 and B2J planned out and even there my plans are really weak at the moment. I made my swap AU just to play around with designs, and I'm happy you like them, but I was not thinking of a story when making the AU.
I definitely want to get back into my swap AU and do more stuff with it though! So hopefully I can figure out where I want to go with the AU soon!

astounded by your drastic tone shift and ability to line everything up into a presumably decades-old syntax and dialect (hope those were the right words; haven't taken 12th grade English in a hot second). All of the dialogue flowed so easily. The phrases, the styles of speech, all of it. It's so different (duh) but impeccably done! How did it come to you? How are you so comfortable with this time period, speech patterns, and the like? Mesmerizing!
Thank you so very much! That's so kind of you to say.
So I came up with this one when writing an answer to another question about what books everyone liked. I talked about how Izzy likes noir books and it got me thinking how like a noir charterer he is, even in canon. He broods, he comes in and makes dire announcement behind lace curtains. He is easily riled by the hot ingenue, who has their own agenda.
Once I had the concept, I read through several lists of 40s slang. I've seen a few noir movies and other films from that era, but I wasn't really shooting for completely convincing tbh. Mostly because I didn't think I could hit it without a lot more research and I had the leeway that this is a dreamscape, so Izzy is calling up an exaggerated amalgam of a lot of media.
I've wanted to write about Izzy wrestling with himself too. He's changed significantly since we first meet him in Kiss My Lipstick On (when I had no concept that he was going to become a main character in these tales btw), but change isn't a straight line and I think he still has some of those less than great thoughts buzzing around in him. They no longer get a voice outside his skull, but he's not free of them.
So he gets to make the choice again. And I think can rest assured that every part of him was pointing him back to Lucius , even in extremis.

Bruce Gentry (1949)
Film review #530
Directors: Spencer Gordon Bennet, Thomas Carr
SYNOPSIS: Bruce Gentry, a charter pilot, has gone to see his friend is Dr. Benson, but the scientist is kidnapped by a mysterious gang led by a man known only as “The Recorder,” who wants Dr. Benson to work on their “flying disc” machines to unleash an attack on the country. Bruce teams up with Paul Radcliffe, an industrialist, alongside ranchers Juanita and Frank, in order to rescue Dr. Benson and put The Recorder’s gang out of action...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Bruce Gentry is a 1949 film serial based on the comic strip centred around the character of the same name. The film opens up with Bruce Gentry, a charter pilot, who gets into a fistfight with a gang of henchman less than a minute into the runtime. When Gentry’s friend Dr. Benson is kidnapped by a criminal gang to work on their inventions. Bruce teams up with Paul Radcliffe, an industrialist, and ranchers Juanita and Frank, whose land contains a mine where materials where Plutonite can be found, which the gang need to complete their machines. Together, they all try to rescue Dr. Benson and stop the criminal gang, led by the mysterious “Recorder.” The fifteen part serial has all the components that are very typical of the format, with each chapter revolving around the back-and-forth between the good guys and bad guys as they scheme and counter-scheme one another. It’s formulaic, but no less so than any of the other serials of the time. The use of airplanes as one of the focal points of the serial, and the main character being a pilot was again a popular choice of serials, as they were firmly in the public’s imagination after the second world war, and were seen as heroes. Unfortunately, there’s not much plane action in this; merely travelling from one destination to another, and usually not making it, as Bruce typically has to jump out of the plane at the last second to avoid being killed in typical cliffhanger fashion. There’s no dog fights or combat in the skies, which is something other serials do, so it is going to pale in comparison to others, and it feels like more could have been done instead of the forgettable schemes we get. The plot barely moves forward at any point, and is stuck at the initial stalemate between the heroes and villains until the final chapter.
The cast of characters is pretty bland: Bruce Gentry is a typical male lead (as with nearly all of these serials), but he doesn’t have anything special or interesting to set him apart: he just flies a plane occasionally. The rest of the characters are also unimportant: Paul Radcliffe, who hires Bruce to investigate the criminal gang, wants the secret of the flying disc’s that the gang uses for himself, but keeps that a secret. This could have led to an interesting side story, but it’s never really followed up. There’s Juanita, the one female character (apart from Paul’s secretary) who has some fight in her, but usually just falls into the role of being kidnapped every other chapter. Frank is completely ineffectual, and just serves as another pair of hands, and the henchmen are completely unremarkable. The Recorder, the mysterious villain who leads the criminal gang, is only heard through voice recordings (hence the name I guess), and while his identity is kept secret throughout the serial, his eventual reveal comes long past the point of being invested in this serial.
As mentioned, the serial does little to try anything new, and the lack of action that isn’t just fistfights makes everything very predictable and dull. One noteworthy element is that this serial is the first time a “flying saucer” was featured on screen, with the criminal gang’s “flying discs” being their main weapon. They are mostly seen as a traditionally animated object flying towards the screen, which does look a bit out of place, and could probably achieved without resorting to animation and creating something so distractingly different to the rest of the serial. This technique was done in other serials, most notable in the Superman serials, but this was typically for when Superman had to fly, which would have been difficult to film in such low budget, low-tech conditions. In Bruce Gentry, I’m sure they could have just used a model to the same effect. Directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet, who directed by so many similar serials, Bruce Gentry has all the pieces of a typical serial, but fails to offer anything in terms of an exciting plot, interesting characters, or unique sci-fi premises. I’d rank it below average, but definitely not the worst of the movie serials (only because there are some really bad ones).

38- do you wake up cranky?
Cranky? No. I'm usually just not awake enough after getting up to care about anything lol
41- share 2 habits
I stir my drinks with knives, not spoons
I never use people's names with them. I will use names in reference to people (when asked by another friend if I call her Buffy, my Buffy explained it pretty well. "To my face? No. In front of me? Yes." She also stated before "when Spike wants your attention he just gets your attention" when discussing with another friend that I don't use names like others do)
99- say 6 facts about your home town
1. It's small. Like... it's not technically a town. Or even a township. It's a charter township, we are technically one step above being a village
2. My hometown mostly consists of churches, liquor stores, and pizza places
3. The only thing to do there is go to the roller rink which is still the go to Friday night hang out for teens
4. Until very recently you had to drive into the city for gas
5. We have more stabbings than shootings
6. During one of the worst winter storms we were the only school district to not close, the surrounding areas made fun of us for years. And we didn't even have high enough attendance for it to count but they still made us stay the whole day
180- share a relationship story
While visiting their friends in CA for a con years ago we broke into an old abandoned zoo for cosplay pictures. We were doing punk!Lion King and even got some shots in the old lion exhibit
188- put your music player on shuffle and write the first ten songs that play
Doubt -Twenty One Pilots
Rise Above -Black Flag
Song for Ten -Doctor Who
Sleep Tight -Rhett and Link
What Do I Get? -Buzzcocks
The Devil You Know (God Is a Man) -Face to Face
Cretin Hop -Ramones
Blister in the Sun -Violent Femmes
Main Offender -The Hives
Sex and Violence -The Exploited
202- what is the first curse word that comes to mind?
Right now? Bollocks, for some reason
213- if you met me what would you do?
Tbh not much lol I'm not the most...friendly person meeting new people irl and tend to not say much, and I usually look intimidating which doesn't help put folks at ease meeting me
214: YOU have to leave me a random/ridiculous question:
What's the strangest thing in your fridge?
227- is it the thought that counts? Or is that phrase circumstancial?
Circumstancial
235- five words/phrases that make you laugh
I honestly don't really laugh much unless you wanna count those small semi amused exhales because that's usually all you'll get from me, there aren't any specific words/phrases that get me. Now if you want people who make me laugh I suggest you watch Mythical Kitchen on YouTube, Josh will make me genuinely laugh out loud
236- share a story of something that makes you smile
I got a cameo from James Marsters when we were doing OMWF and he starts it off with "I bequeath unto you the role of Spike" and it was super genuine and he talked about how playing Spike helped him deal with personal stuff and hoped it would help me the same way. He also said he was a bit jealous because I was getting to play Spike live and he never got to do that
238- what is something you used to enjoy, but was ruined for you? What's the story behind that?
Ok so you know Inkheart? The book by Cornelia Funk (not the movie that was rubbish) well I absolutely love it and had intended to read the whole series but my brother read Inkspell right before I was going to and as he was passing the book off to me he told me my favourite character gets killed. I refused to read it then and still haven't gotten myself to actually do it. I have the books...I just get so mad at my brother for telling me about their death every time I look at the books
239- describe one of the most awkward experiences of your life
In high school I was accepted into this special week long Shakespeare program where we worked for 1 week with professional Shakespearean actors from Stratford. At one point we had to do these bonding things and had to hug one of the others, you had to keep holding it until you were breathing together and say "I love you, [name]" we would mill about the room until they told us to stop and turn to the closest person and do this. I don't like saying those words and especially back then would basically refuse to say it to anyone, so having to say it was already awkward. We only did it twice but the first one one of the other kids was in the bathroom so I got paired with one of the instructors who I thought was attractive so that was awkward enough but then the second go I got paired with the girl I had a crush on 😬 the whole thing was real awkward for me
266- have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Honestly not sure how to answer this, I have a hard time figuring out if I have a crush on anyone really, it takes a lot of work for me to differentiate feelings like that
268- make a confession
I hate tiktok because so many people make their videos impossible for those with processing disorders to watch. I will watch the ones Buffy sends me (typically ADHD based videos) and have agreed to make tiktoks with her when I have my Hades cosplay ready, but I really hate tiktok in general

Star Trektrospective :Star Trek V The Fianl Frontier
Tumblr media
.....So Star Trek V is considered by some the worst film in the franchise.I dunno if I would go that far....But its a mess
Plot:Kirk(William Shatner) is on a mission to save ambassadors of the Federation(David Warner),Klingons (Charles Cooper) and Romulans (Cynthia Gouw) from a cult leader named Sybock (Laurance Luckinbill ),who is a Vulcan who is embraces emotion instead of logic and is searching for the legendery Sh Ka Ree which maybe the home of God(George Murdock )
So I am going to spoil this movie.....Not that it matters, this movie is basically filler
Look this movie is a mess.I dont think it is awful ,I like aspects.....but the movie is just fundamentally broken
As my good friend @ariel-seagull-wings has pointed out the film has various threads that could make their own movie:Kidnapped ambassadors ,Spock reunited with his brother who has embraced emotion , someone taking over the enterprise,a rengade Klingon chasing the heroes and oh yeah ,the SEARCH FOR GOD .....But they are just crammed into this one film and it doesnt work
The biggest issue is the main idea of the film, the Search for God .Now I think that is a brillaint concept for a sci fi movie ,going across the cosmos to touch the hand of the Devine .....Shame that the movie squanders it for three reasons
1.Too ambitious concept ,limited means:So at the finale of the movie we land on Sha Ka Ree and meet God who turns out not to be God but an evil entity .That is all great story stuff and that leads to some great potential for a climax :have the God entity shift reality , change into various forms like a great beast, and since he is an entity the heres would have to either escape him, trap him or find some other clever way to beat this thing.Heck the original concepts were pretty cool,Sha Ka Ree being a alien jungle paradise ,and God having an army of devils and angel like creatures ......Unfortunately budget got in the way:Sha Ka Ree is just a desert with a purple filter , and the army got dialed down to 6 rock monsters....Which was dialed down to one rock monster....Which was dialed down to nothing .The God entity is also very lame in the finished film, just a big glowy Gandalf looking dude who shoots lightning .The climax where his head is chasing Kirk going "ooooooo" is more funny then scary and he's just blown up by Klingons ....Like thats all it took to kill this thing ?
2.Shatner gets surface level but misses the potential:Again this is a movie about potentially meeting God....But there no discussion of religion ,spirituality or the charters personal faiths. We dont get why Sybock is all about meeting God other then "Hey wouldnt it be cool to meet the Almighty ? " .The film is directed by Shatner ,and I get the feeling the topic means a lot to him, similar to how Leonard Nimoys environmentalism was a driving force for Star Trek IV ,but while Nimoys message was clear, Shatners is murky ,I dont know what he is trying to say with this film.....Well other then mocking televangelists and false prophets apparently ...But even thats muddy cause while Sybock is presented as a villain....He really isnt at all ,really feels like any villainous acts he does are plot driven not character driven
3.The toooooone.....Good lord the tone: So I think of a movie about the search for God,I imagine a sweeping epic.....Paramount looked at this and thought "Hey lets make it a comedy !!!"Yup this movie is all about the gags and its ......Jarring .And if they were funny jokes I wouldnt mind but they are...Not.Scotty is hitting his head ,Bones is talking about beans,Chekov and Sulu are lost in the woods,The Enterprise is a mess, burping Klingons ,its....not funny. Also theres just odd scenes like Kirk fighting a cat girl and Uhuras naked fan dance which just confuses me because I cant see Kirk asking Uhura to do that (Also to anyone who is like "Eww people in their 50's are gross".....Grow the fuck up )
The effects arent great ,and I feel bad saying that .The effects house was inexperienced and they only had three months. However I have seen other productions do a lot with less
I sadly dont have a lot to say about the supporting cast, which is a shame cause David Warner is an amazing actor and he does NOTHING in this movie ,and that goes for the other ambassadors too.Todd Bryant and Spice Williams-Crosby play generic evil Klingons ,I honestly forget they are in the movie .Not even the Enterprise crew is that good cause Chekov,Sulu and Uhura are jut under Sybocks control (Kind of ) for a lot of the movie .Scotty has a few good moments.....Oh yeah ,also he and Uhra have a romance in this film, and Its OK ,I kind of forget its in the movie. Also while I dont like the God entity.....I think George Murdock plays it very well transitioning from wise and holy to a sadistic malevolent being
Spock is mixed in this one,we are supposed to believe his loyalties are split which....I dont buy.I wish him being reunited with his brother was a bigger deal .However he gets a great scene near the end
I really dont like Kirk in this film.Shatners performance is fine but the writing .....He is always right ,unshakeable ,one man against many and blah. The main concept of the film,I just dont buy, with Kirks crew turning against him and rightfully Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley called him out on that .This is honestly another big problem I have with the film:In Leonard Nimoys films I get that he understood everyones strengths....I dont get that with Shatner
So yeah I have bitched about this movie.....Now to get what I really love about it .I think Sybock is a great character, though not as developed as he should be .I like that he is misguded byut not evil ,an emotional Vulcan is a great idea and Laurence Luckinbill delivers a truly great performance ,very gregarious and a bit naïve.I think Luckinbill is so great he is worth watching the movie and I really but he truly loves Spock as a brother
The other great performance in this film goes to DeForest Kelley in weirdly possibly his best performance as Bones .All the humor with him works (My favorite being him calling everyone to dinner when everyone is already there ) and he gets one hell of a dramatic scene, where he relives euthanizing his father. This is Kelleys movie
I like a few individual scenes.I love the camping scene where Kirk ,Spock and McCoy are talking about life (And I am in the minority.....But I love them singing Row Row Row Your Boat ),I think the ending is very nice,I like Sybock showing the main trio their pain and Kirk rejecting it ,and I like the initial encounter with the God entity where Sybock and McCoy are in awe of him......Only to find out he is a fake and a sadistic bastard with the best line in the movie:What Does God Need With a Starship ?
My favorite scene however is a small one:The three embassodors see Sha Ka Ree,and each call it their cultures name for Paradise. Its a simple moving moment that I really like
Over all its bad ,ts definately a mess....A mess with genuinely solid moments, and its such a mess I have to reccomend it cause it is so crazy it is a bit of fun to watch
