Request for ImSorry, College
“How do you even know this guy anyway?” Jeremy asked, leaning over Jane’s back in such a intrusive distillation of his character that this particular instant could have come from any singular moment throughout the semester, right down to the mortal threat to Jane’s class project.
“Watch it, Buster! You are dangerously close to causing the greatest second dolphin extinction event since the invention of the six-pack!”
Trying to dislodge his suitemate, Jane threw his shoulder, pushing Jeremy and his grasping arms backwards and away from the fragile, pseudo-aquatic diorama.
Jeremy slid down Jane’s spine. “Fine, jeez, I wasn’t going to squish your bath toys.” He went boneless just long enough to reach the floor, then promptly popped to his feet and began looking at the aquarium from the other side. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“I don't know what you mean by ‘this guy’,” Jane grumbled. “This is clearly a diorama. Not a guy.”
“The guy, man,” Scout nagged, and Jane could already feel the migraine coming on. Jeremy was actually the human embodiment of head pains, to the point where sometimes Jane wondered if he had escaped from a lab that had been trying to bio-engineer the most aggravating person in existence. “This guy that’s making you go wackadoo and put like ten times more effort into a freaking GED project than anyone ever should.”
“This has nothing to do with him.” Jane put an aggressive amount of glue on his last dolphin.
“Right, sure,” Jeremy snickered. “But as soon as I said ‘guy you have a weird rivalry with’ you immediately jumped to him.” When Jane grit his teeth, Jeremy laughed again. “So what is it with you two? You didn’t get the urge to start tearing each other’s intellectual dicks off just because of some Economics of Marine Biology class, right?”
“Applied Oceanography,” Jane corrected, pointedly not looking up.
“C’mon pally, you know what I meant-”
“Hrrn nn brrdaa”
The voice of their third and final suitemate spoke up from a nearby beanbag chair, where its owner was trying to ignite a textbook with a lighter.
Jeremy looked to them, then to Jane. “Really? He plays for the Brawlers too?”
“Yes,” Jane snarled. “Mystery solved. The new power guard is in my oceanography class, and now you will shut your trap, shortstop, so that I can proceed to kick his ass in diorama making and prove that I am the superior guard.”
“That ain’t exactly a perfect chain of events, but you do you pally.” Jeremy pulled to the far end of the couch, drawing his legs into a fold. “Ain’t like, you supposed to develop deep-seated rivalries with players from other schools? Not your own?”
“If you met him, you would understand.” Jane placed some cherry bombs at the bottom of the glass tank. “Plus, he-...” Swallowing his fury, he said, “he got me moved to small guard.”
“To- what?”
“Hurmm umma,” their third put in helpfully.
Jeremy absorbed this for a moment, then burst out laughing. “Oh, oh man. There’s literally a position called small guard? That’s- that’s fucking hilarious you gotta admit.”
“I have to admit no such thing!” Jane rounded on him, diverting his attention from his precious project for the first time in over three hours. “I used to be power guard! Then some one-eyed, Scottish, lay-about, freshman comes in and thinks he can take my spot? This is betrayal of the highest order! A perversion of our constitution!”
“Mrra hudda.”
“I do not care if small guard is ‘technically a step up’,” Jane huffed. “Power guard is further to the front. That makes it better.”
“Basketball’s for chumps anyway,” Jeremy said, apparently having derived all the entertainment he’d wanted from the conversation, laying until he could reach his arms behind his head and dropping his legs in Jane’s lap. “You should try out for a real sport. But hey! Hope your little fish tank fills your inadequacy or whatever.”
“Oh it will.” Jane lowered his face to the glass, breath fogging and obscuring the magnum opus within. “It will.”
#
“And here you will see what happens when America finally colonizes the ocean!” Jane said to the drooling, glassy eyes of an 8am class.
They were significantly less slumberous when he threw a final cherry bomb into his demonstration, causing a chain reaction as dozens of ‘fireworks’ went off under the ocean, celebrating America’s eventual conquest. To really send the message home, he pulled the ripcord in the back, dropping a miniature stars and stripes behind the tank.
“Oorah!” he concluded.
“...Thank you Mister Doe,” the professor said. “Your time allotted for presenting is up.”
He turned and gave her a big thumbs up.
While some staff at Teufort U insisted you call them by their first names, this professor was not one of them, and it was rumored that the TA who had once dared to call her ‘Helen’ in front of her students was never seen again. However, no one could be that much of a hardass all the time; Jane was confident his project had just blown her out of the water (pun intended.)
She eyed his thumbs up with her perpetually sour face. “...That means return to your seat, Mister Doe.”
Jane picked up his aquarium and strolled jauntily back to his desk.
His good mood dissipated as soon as Tavish was announced as the next presenter. The usurper pulled his aquarium in on a cart, a sheet draped over to allow for a dramatic reveal. Dammit. Jane should have thought about dramatic reveals.
Tavish grinned at his audience, whisking away the blanket with a flourish.
“Behold!” he declared. “You’ve heard of desalination to deal with the oncoming global water shortages, but my proposal is this: a complete and total refinement. Salt water? Pah! Whiskey oceans are where it’s at.”
The tanked sloshed, full of something clearly scrumpy or scrumpy adjacent. Within the alcohol floated an awfully realistic looking octopus, expertly crafted and swishing with the tank’s movements. An eyepatch covered its left side.
“With the addition of boozed-based life forms of course, for an entirely new ecosystem.”
Jane curled his lip. Damn. He was good.
“...Mister DeGroot,” the professor said, “might I remind you that this is an alcohol free campus, regardless of any student’s legal status to drink? And, even without that, you are not currently twenty-one years of age?”
“Drinking age is sixteen in Scotland, Ma’am.”
“Sit, DeGroot.”
Tavish sat. He shot Jane a smug grin. Jane scowled.
“That concludes our presentations for today.” If the professor’s voice got any more disappointed, she could have been a ringer for a Badlands Brawlers fan. “As you know, the diorama that scores the highest marks will receive extra credit toward our upcoming final exam. I use the remainder of the class time to grade, and announce the winner shortly. Please return on the bell if you wish to receive those extra credits.”
The ‘bell’, unlike those rinky dinky little red bowl things they had in high school, was actually a proper bell tower, situated over the science building and able to be heard anywhere on campus. This was where Jane retreated to wait out his nerves, pacing around the semi-enclosed area and mulling over his chances. Fine, Tavish’s had been good. He was used to Tavish being good, the bastard, but Jane’s was better, and this time he was going to mop the floor with him.
“I am going to mop the floor with you!” he declared to the heavens.
“Not with that sad display you won’t.”
Jane jumped. A quiet moment of solitude foiled, besieged by his mortal enemy who’d somehow snuck up on him in order to lean cockily against the door to the stairs.
“My display was anything but sad.” Jane shook his fist. “It was joyous! Victorious! Other words that mean not sad!” When Tavish continued to smirk at him, he added, “plus, your idea is bad anyway.”
“Aye?” Tavish challenged. “How so?”
Dammit. Jane hadn’t thought this far. Replacing the oceans with whiskey really did seem foolproof...except…
“If there is no more water, then you can’t make other type of booze either!” he declared triumphantly.
Tavish jaw clenched. Ha! Good. Let him get angry for once.
He walked over and got right in Jane’s face. “Well what about you? How are you going to light off the fireworks underwater?”
“Oil, salt, and various temperature and pressure difference!” Jane didn’t like the other man in his space, and gave him a shove. They were always doing that to each other during practice, blocking and shoulder-checking harder than necessary, doing things that would certainly be penalties in an actual game.
“Who cares?” Tavish shoved him back. “No one’s going to see them anyway.”
Jane grabbed him by the front of the shirt and shouted, “the dolphins will! You would know that if YOU HAD BEEN PAYING ATTENTION.”
One, dangling, aggravating second stretched on, catching friction as they pressed noses and breathed heavy with the effort. Then they reacted simultaneously, lunging forward and attacking each other in mouth to mouth combat.
Jane growled furiously, trying to gain the upper hand, but Tavish was just as motivated not to let him get it. The pair of them sucked at each other’s faces, mastication muscles competing for this year’s WWE championship belt, crashing against the nearest half-wall surrounding the roof. A more wary observer might have worried about them careening over the edge, but Tavish and Jane had more pressing things on their minds. (And ‘more pressing’ was exactly how they were going to resolve it.) Just a whole mismatched ball of absolute frustration as they worked out several months of pent-up attraction.
Their combined rage might have carried them to hell and back, had the bell not struck 9am at that exact moment.
They both screamed, trying desperately to cover their ears as they hundred and fifty year old bell GONGED above them, rattling teeth inside skulls and causing tears to spring to their eyes.
“God! Why don’t they have a warning sign up? Bloody hell!” Tavish moaned, having found his way to the floor and using his beanie to futilely cover his head.
“What???” Jane, who already didn’t have a good ear at the best of times, worried briefly that he’d finally gone deaf.
“What?” Tavish asked. “I can’t hear a thing you’re saying.”
“What?”
This went on for several minutes, the two men lying on the floor of the bell tower.
When they finally staggered down to class, it was in a terribly haggard state, and new bruises around their mouths.
“Hello professor,” Tavish, the least winded of them, declared. “It’s alright, you can tell us which one was the winner now. We’ve worked out our differences, and determined to let the best man win.”
“The best man will be me, but yeah what he said!” Jane put in.
“If you’re going for flashy, maybe, but on sheer sustainability-”
“No one’s going to eat alcohol-based sushi, cyclops-”
“Enough,” the professor cut in. “Neither of you won the extra credit points.”
“What?” Tavish gaped. “But ours were the best out of anyone’s! How could we possibly lose?”
“The assignment,” she said in a clipped voice that spoke of years of dealing with the exact idiots that Teufort tended to attract, “was to create a physical display of algae chemical reactions at different levels of light and pressure as found in the oceanic zones. Not only did you not win, you have failed this project. Now, since I have a lecture in Hale Hall in fifteen minutes, I suggest you both move out of my way, otherwise you will not have the chance to recuperate those points on the final exam. Goodbye gentleman.”
She stripped the last of the grading notes off her desk, shoved them into a manila folder, and disappeared out the door.
Tavish and Jane watched her go. The minutes ticked by on the wall mounted analog clock, which probably could have told them the time just as well as the giant bell that had nearly deafened them.
“Hey,” Tavish said, elbowing Jane in the side. “I got to take Basic Intergluteal Numismatics next semester.”
“...Yeah? And?”
“Bet I can solve systematic inflation before you can.”
“Oh, you’re on son.”

How to Crush Law School Exams as an LL.M.
Hello again!
It’s been a minute. I’ve just had a well-deserved break after finishing my finals, where I managed to get a bit of sun in Florida and Puerto Rico.
It’s been a running start into my final semester of the LL.M. - and I can’t quite believe how fast this has all gone. I have a lot of content ideas coming up about everything I will be doing this semester, including juggling my internship at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, a Research Assistantship with an NYU Law Professor, the March Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) for the Bar, a full load of classes, and job hunting/networking - but first things first. I wanted to reflect on last semester’s exams, final papers and overall grades, and think about what I did well, and what I would change!
What are American law school exams like?
I’ll start by giving you an idea of the format of exams to give you an idea of the general approach, and hopefully take away some of the anxieties you as a future LL.M. might have.
There is no uniform exam or grading type for each and every course. American law school professors have a lot of discretion about how they will structure and assess their courses - including what mode of exam you will take (multiple choice, short answers, long problem question responses, policy-based essays, etc), or a final paper, and whether and to what extent class participation counts toward the grade. My assessments ran the gamut. In one class, I had a group assignment worth 30%, a 5,000 word final paper worth 60%, and 10% class participation, and in two others my final exam was worth 100%, with the professor’s discretion to slightly boost your grade based on your overall participation and contribution to the class. My Constitutional Interpretation seminar was 50% class participation, and 50% based on regular pieces of written work we handed in, including a final paper of 2,000 words.
Exams typically last between 2-4 hours, while take-homes take 3-8 hours (I haven’t had a take-home yet, but I will have a 12 hour take-home this semester). We all took our exams from home with a special software (Exam4 or the law school’s own exam software, THESS). Both my exams this semester allowed students to use any notes they wanted, and you could access the internet as well. The main problem with doing that is running out of time! So creating an organized outline of your notes and brainstorming essay ideas ahead of time is pretty crucial.
How do Professors grade? And what is a good grade?
Professors seem to have pretty broad discretion when it comes to grading - and definitely so when I think about Australian law school professors, who grade ‘blindly’ and never know who is behind the student number unless they look it up later, or are awarding prizes for the top students. The possible grades at NYU range from an F to an A+, as follows:
A+, 4.333; A, 4.000; A-, 3.667; B+, 3.333; B, 3.000; B-, 2.667; C, 2.000; D, 1.000 and F, 0.000.
No more than 2% of students can get an A+ in a given class, with a target of 1%. I am proud to say I was the only A+ student in one of my classes - yay! A huge personal achievement for me, and so I will brag a little here because I don’t want to be lame and brag in real life!
About 10% of people get As, and another 20% get A-s, and about 26% of people get B grades (B+, B, or B-). B- and C grades are actually pretty rare, so in all likelihood you will likely end up with an A or B grade of some sort!
It’s kind of hard to work out what ‘good’ grades/a strong GPA are for job applications, but from what I’ve gleaned, in an ideal world you would have all A level grades, or maybe one B+. Personally, my grades were an A+, 2 A- grades and a B+. This gave me a GPA of around 3.8, which is definitely decent for job applications.
Your chances to get the high grades will depend a big deal on your competition - in the core doctrinal courses (like Constitutional Law, Free Speech, Evidence, Corporations Law, and so on) and in classes of the really famous professors, JD competition is intense. I definitely didn’t make it easy for myself with my classes, and I was usually the only, or one of two, LLMs, along with pretty ambitious JDs (often from elite undergrad schools) aiming for judicial clerkships or other prestigious jobs. Many LLMs have usually been working hard enough back home, and work hard enough to get decent grades, but leave enough time to relax and enjoy themselves. I would say my approach was mixed - I knew I needed to work hard enough to get good grades to make me a strong candidate for job applications in the US, but I also had plenty of fun. 😄 Just less fun around exam time!
Tumblr media
On reflection, my top tips for doing well in your classes and exams would be:
1) Play to your strengths
At the time you select your classes, you’ll be able to see what the format of the assessment is - long paper, exam, practical assessments (like in a clinic or simulation course), etc. My top advice would be to think about your strengths when picking classes.
I have always been much better at hand-in assignments, and my one A+ grade was from handing in a long paper. My lowest grade (a B+) was from a very time-pressured exam that I wasn’t happy with how I handled the timing. So - if you know you are much better at one type of assessment, make sure you are considering this when picking classes to pave the way for great grades, especially if you are relying on your grades for finding a new job or for a JSD application.
2) Understand your professor’s idiosyncratic preferences
When it comes to law school exams, the key to succeeding is really knowing who’s grading them. Some professors prefer you to be ‘quick and dirty’ and to really jump into the key issues and answers, while others prefer a more formalistic recitation of the rules and then a close application of the rules to the facts. Pay attention to how they explain what they want, pore over any model answers and exam keys they give you, be familiar with the way they write problems, and ideally hunt down past students’ papers with comments or overall feedback from the professor (if you know anyone that took the class before).
3) Make study enjoyable and social
Even in these COVID times, I really benefited from spending time at the library studying with LL.M. friends, and broke up study sessions with coffee hangs, lunches, and going to see the Christmas lights. Your friends will keep you sane and motivated, so don’t hide yourself away for the whole month or more!
Tumblr media
Friends! A well-deserved dinner break in December a week or two before finals.
4) Argue both sides of legal issues you spot
This is something that is really emphasized by NYU professors. A good lawyer can, when identifying a legal issue, show how it is a weak point in a plaintiff’s claim or in a defendant’s defense, and then demonstrate how both sides could argue their case. The best answers don’t ‘fence sit’, but come to a reasoned judgment/prediction about which side of the argument is stronger.
5) Be precise and concise
You should try not to include unrelated material in your answer as this could backfire if your professor believes you struggle to separate relevant material from irrelevant material. One of my professors was clear ahead of time and said he did not appreciate an ‘info dump’ and graded accordingly, but I think this is true of all professors.
6) Be *really* aware of your timing
I can’t stress this enough. Effective time management is imperative on law school exams. My Evidence exam was so unbelievably time-pressured (27 short-answer questions in 3 hours = less than 7 minutes per question to read a few sentences-long question and answer it), and I did not handle this as well as I could have, affecting my grade. Make sure to be really aware of this and try to be strict with yourself so you don’t leave any questions untouched.
Tumblr media
7) Remember public policy concerns
After applying the legal rules to the issues presented in your fact pattern, if time allows, include a sentence or two about the policy implications of your conclusions, or how your chosen approach fits best with the policy rationale underpinning the legal rule. This is something that is valued more in US law schools than my law school back home. Not critical, but definitely something that could boost your grade a little!
8) Just try your best, and don’t be too hard on yourself
We have all worked hard to be here, and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. English might not be your first language, you might struggle with exams, or it might just not be the best day you’ve ever had. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of either not understanding the issues presented in a question, or not remembering the rules related to such issues, just do your best to write the best possible answer in the time limit.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions!

WHAT THE VIRUS SAID
First published in Lundimatin, March 16, 2020
Translated by Robert Hurley
“I’ve come to shut down the machine whose emergency brake you couldn’t find.”
You’d do well, dear humans, to stop your ridiculous calls for war. Lower the vengeful looks you’re aiming at me. Extinguish the halo of terror in which you’ve enveloped my name. Since the bacterial genesis of the world, we viruses are the true continuum of life on Earth. Without us, you would never have seen the light of day, any more than the first cell would have come to exist.
We are your ancestors, just like the rocks and the seaweed, and much more than the apes. We are wherever you are and also where you aren’t. Too bad for you if you only see in the universe what is to your liking! But above all, quit saying that it is I who am killing you. You will not die from my action upon your tissues but from the lack of care of your fellow humans. If you had not been just as rapacious amongst yourselves as you were with all that lives on this planet, you would still have enough beds, nurses, and respirators to survive the damage I do in your lungs. If you didn’t pack your old people into nursing homes and your able-bodied into concrete hutches, you wouldn’t be in this predicament. If you hadn’t changed the whole expanse of the world, or worlds rather, that just yesterday were still luxuriant, chaotic, infinitely inhabited, into a vast desert for the monoculture of the Same and the More, I wouldn’t have been able to launch myself into the global conquest of your throats. If nearly all of you had not become, over the last century, redundant copies of a single, untenable form of life, you would not be preparing to die like flies abandoned in the water of your sugary civilization. If you had not made your environments so empty, so transparent, so abstract, you can be sure that I wouldn’t be moving at the speed of an aircraft. I only come to carry out the punishment that you have long pronounced against yourselves. Forgive me, but it’s you, after all, who invented the name “Anthropocene”. You have awarded yourselves the whole honor of the disaster; now that it is unfolding, it’s too late to decline it. The most honest among you know this very well: I have no other accomplice than your social organization, your folly of the “grand scale” and its economy, your fanatical belief in systems. Only systems are “vulnerable”. Everything else lives and dies. There’s no “vulnerability” except for what aims at control, at its extension and its improvement. Look at me closely: I am just the flip side of the prevailing Death.
So stop blaming me, accusing me, stalking me. Working yourselves into an anti-viral paralysis. All of that is childish. Let me propose a different perspective: there is an intelligence that is immanent to life. One doesn’t need to be a subject to make use of a memory and a strategy. One doesn’t have to be a sovereign to decide. Bacteria and viruses can also call the shots. See me, therefore, as your savior instead of your gravedigger. You’re free not to believe me, but I have come to shut down the machine whose emergency brake you couldn’t find. I have come in order to suspend the operation that held you hostage. I have come in order to demonstrate the aberration that “normality” constitutes. “Delegating to others our nutrition, our protection, our ability to care for our way of life was a madness”…“There is no budgetary limit, health has no price” : see how I redirect the language and spirit of your governing authorities! See how I bring them down for you to their real standing as miserable racketeers, and arrogant to boot! See how they suddenly denounce themselves not just as being superfluous, but as being harmful! For them you’re nothing but supports for the reproduction of their system – that is, less than slaves. Even the plankton are treated better than you.
But don’t waste your time reproaching them, pointing out their deficiencies. Accusing them of negligence is still to give them more credit than they deserve. Ask yourselves rather how you could find it so comfortable to let yourselves be governed. Praising the merits of the Chinese option compared to the British option, of the imperial-legist solution as against the Darwinist-liberal method is to understand nothing about the one or the other, the horror of one and the horror of the other. Since Quesnay, the “liberals” have always looked with envy at the Chinese empire ; and they still do. They are Siamese twins. The fact that one of them confines you in its interest and the other in the interest of “society” always amounts to suppressing the only non-nihilist conduct : taking care of oneself, of those one loves and of what one loves in those one doesn’t know. Don’t let those who’ve led you to the abyss claim to be saving you from it: they will prepare for you a more perfect hell, an even deeper grave. Someday when they’ll able, they’ll send the army to patrol the afterlife.
You ought to thank me, rather. Without me, for how much longer would those unquestionable things that are suddenly suspended have gone on being presented as necessary? Globalization, competitive exams, air traffic, budgetary limits, elections, sports spectacles, Disneyland, fitness gyms, most businesses, the National Assembly, school barracking, mass gatherings, most office jobs, all that automatic sociability that is nothing but the reverse of the anxious solitude of the metropolitan monads : all of that was rendered unnecessary, once the state of necessity asserted its presence. Thank me for the truth test of the coming weeks; you’re finally going to inhabit your own life, without the thousand escapes that, good year bad year, hold the untenable together. Without your realizing it, you had never taken up residence in your own existence. You were there among your boxes, and you didn’t know it. Now you will live with your kindreds. You will be at home. You will cease to be in transit towards death. Perhaps you will hate your husband. Maybe your children won’t be able to stand you. Maybe you will feel like blowing up the décor of your everyday life. The truth is that you were no longer in the world, in those metropolises of separation. Your world was no longer livable in any of its guises unless you were constantly fleeing. One had to make do with movement and distractions in the face of the hideousness that had taken hold. And the spectral that reigned between beings. Everything had become so efficient that nothing made any sense any longer. Thank me for all that, and welcome back to earth!
Thanks to me, for an indefinite time you will no longer work, your kids won’t go to school, and yet it will be the opposite of a vacation. Vacations are that space that must be filled up at all costs while waiting for the obligatory return to work. But now what is opening up in front of you, thanks to me, is not a delimited space but a gaping emptiness. I render you idle. There’s no guarantee that yesterday’s non-world will reappear. All of that profitable absurdity may cease. Not being paid oneself, what would be more natural than to stop paying one’s rent? Why would a person unable to work go on depositing their mortgage payments at the bank? Isn’t it suicidal, when you come down to it, to live where you can’t even cultivate a garden? Someone who doesn’t have any money left doesn’t stop eating as a consequence, and who has the iron has the bread. Thank me: I place you in front of the bifurcation that was tacitly structuring your existences: the economy or life. It’s your move, your turn to play. The stakes are historical. Either the governing authorities impose their state of exception on you, or you invent your own. Either you go with the truths that are coming to light, or you put your head on the chopping block. Either you use the time I’m giving you to envision the world of the aftermath in light of what you’ve learned from the collapse that’s underway, or the latter will go extreme. The disaster ends when the economy ends. The economy is the devastation. That was a theory before last month. Now it is a fact. No one can fail to sense what it will take in the way of police, propaganda, surveillance, logistics, and remote working to keep that fact under control.
As you deal with me, don’t succumb to panic or denial. Don’t give in to the biopolitical hysterias. The coming weeks will be terrible, oppressive, cruel. The gates of death will be wide open. I am the most devastating production of the devastation of production. I come to reduce the nihilists to nothingness. The injustice of this world will never be more outrageous. It’s a civilization, not you, that I come to bury. Those who desire to live will have to construct new habits, ones that are suitable for them. Avoiding me will be the occasion for this reinvention, this new art of distances. The art of greeting one another, which some were short-sighted enough to see as the very form of the institution, will soon not obey any etiquette. It will sign beings. Don’t do it “for the others”, for “the population” or for “society”, do it for your people. Take care of your friends and those you love. Rethink along with them, decisively, what a just form of life would be. Organize clusters of right living, expand them, and I won’t be able to do anything against you. I am calling for a massive return, not of discipline, but of attention. Not for the end of insouciance, but the end of all carelessness. What other way remained for me to remind you that salvation is in each gesture? That everything is in the tiniest thing.
I’ve had to face the facts: humanity only asks itself the questions it can no longer keep from asking.

how long does lawyer school take in brazil, or i mean how does it work?
hmmm so the first thing is that brazilian universities don’t have like, an undergrad + grad school with a minor and a major. when you apply to university you apply to a graduate degree (graduação) and if you feel like it you can go for a post-graduate degree (pós-graduação). but you only apply for a major, so when you apply you apply directly to a school.
does that mean that you’ll have to choose what to do with your life when you’re 17/18? yes
does that end well? almost never, but i digress
some degrees take 4, 5 or 6 years to complete. law takes 5 years, medicine 6, but the majority of other degrees will take 4 or 4.5 years of education.
speaking specifically of law school, you do 5 years of college, and the first 2 are like “basic” cycles - anthropology of law, sociology of law, philosophy of law, general law theory, introduction to legal sciences, private law theory, constitutional theory, etc etc. by year 3 you start with the specifics - constitutional law, international law, administrative law, company law, tax law, etc etc. in brazil you can’t pick and choose, so you’ll study every branch of law available in your university
(and still end up not knowing the ones you need the most bc they weren’t “important” enough to be offered as required subjects and honestly you were just too tired for electives)
a thing that is very important to know is that law students in brazil have to do internships. but these aren’t like, summer internships or whatever - it’s legit a part-time paralegal job, be it in a law firm or a judge’s office or whenever they need a law student as an intern. you do pretty much the same job as an attorney, get paid less, and get yelled at a whole lot
(i’d like to add that i don’t yell at my interns at all and they like me so much they make memes out of my facial expressions in meetings so my interns are treated super well - because i wasn’t treated that well as an intern and i’m all for breaking the cycle of abuse)
while students can get internships in their first semester of law school, most offices will only hire students from 5th semester on. in my case, i spent two years doing research and extension, something that i’ve only seen in public brazilian universities that you basically create a nonprofit inside the university to give back to the community. i’ve been a part of my nonprofit for seven years now? we offer legal support for lgbtq+ and women who have been victims of violence and also work for representatives/public figures in creating lgbtq+/women inclusive public policies.
once you start in an internship, however, a regular day goes more or less like this: classes start at 7:30AM (yes) and end around 11AM. you have an hour or two for lunch, and internships start from 12AM to 1PM and end from 6PM to 7PM. go home, rinse and repeat. It’s exausting, but once you get the hang of it, the pay usually makes up for it - law students generally get some good pay for internships, so i’ve been more or less financially independent from my parents since i’ve been 19 only with internship money.
to graduate you have to write a BA thesis. The standards are very fucking low, but people who want a career in academics usually make an effort - my thesis was about the feminization of poverty and the regressivity of brazilian tax law. if you completed the thesis and have enough internship hours, plus some extracurricular activities, you’re clear to graduate.
as in the US, brazil has a bar exam. unlike the US, a bar approval in a state clears you for legal practice all over the country. the bar exam is fairly straightfoward - a multiple choice test of all legal areas, and if you pass that you take a area-specific essay-type test. while i studied my ass off, i didn’t think the bar was that hard. i did constitutional law because that what i work with, and i got an 8.5 out of 10 or what not. however, since brazil has a HUGE amount of law graduates (honest to god like more than a million at least), and the private schools aren’t that good as a general rule of thumb, 90% of people don’t pass the bar.
i am extremely privileged in the sense that i’ve attended the best law school in the country, so i was able to get some outstanding education and get a good network of professional contacts. this means i got hired straight out of school by a good firm that pays me well enough. this is not the reality of the majority of people who go for law in brazil. unfortunately, it really boils down to who you know, the people you’re able to connect with, and where you attended law school.
that being said, my college was an absolute madhouse and the stories i have from my time there (still going on since i’m halfway through my masters) are sure to make you wonder how come people who graduate there are even allowed to practice

You okay the project for the whole team? Great turn it in to the professor tomorrow
Tl/dr; Kids in group project don’t take having a real life client seriously, 1 fails, 1 fails and doesn’t graduate, and 1 goes from A to C and screws up GPA.
Enough of the Backstory, here are the characters, obviously no where near their real names:
Matt - Professor
Client - Store owner
Damien - Project Partner
Jeff - Project Partner
Kirk - Project Partner
Barry - Me
The SPRING class in this story was a Implementing Business Computer Systems class. For the yearly project we had a real life client that our school volunteered the students for Pro Bono work of small business in the area. We were seniors, so we are trusted with the clients work as it is oversaw by our professor. This is a big step and I, for one, am excited. I had been doing nothing but working as a Bartender/Server in a fine dining restaurant and having my head in books learning how to code with barely any time to do much else - this was an opportunity to get a taste of the real world we were about to embark on.
The project started out fine, we all drive thirty minutes away to meet our client. A wonderful woman that owned a small floral business and she was paying 1-800-flowers to sell her product for her, which came with a website itself and a HUGEEEE price. This lady was also in her 60s and by no means fluent in computer - this is important for later. We talk, find out she wants a new website, her contract with 1-800-assholes ends in the summer. No pressure, we will be able to finish the web site and give it to her by the end of the semester, if not earlier. This will give us time to teach her what is needed and what to do so that she can maintain and run the website by her self. Afterwards we delegate the tasks, and since I have the most extensive background in coding and computers, I volunteer to learn how to create this website for our client as long as Damien, Jeff and Kirk work on the other parts of the project - the user guide and the technical documentation. For our client, this needed to be extensive so that she would be able to post her product on the website with an easy transition.
As we weigh our options over the next week, we come up with some proposals to the client and we set a meeting to go over these on a Tuesday - the day everybody is the most free in their schedule - the following week. Sunday - Jeff says he can't make it, Kirk quickly responds and says he can't make it either. I say its cool, Damien and I will be able to make it. Monday - Damien says we should reschedule because now he can't make it. I say no, I will go by myself we shouldn't cancel on the client - no biggie, I understand things come up. As the project went through the semester, I am killing the website. I have a working e-commerce store integrated with the stores paypal, i have a shop tab, and a featured page for in season flowers. I ask about the documentation and the user manual and I am told by the all three of them that they are working on it and will have a rough draft for me soon to check out. Cool, No problem. Time to show the client the product to see if she wants any changes or if we should just continue creating this website for her; we set a meeting with the client on a Tuesday a week or two in advance and everybody says that is okay.
Same song, different story. Sunday - Jeff says he can't make it, Kirk quickly responds and says he can't make it either. I say its cool, Damien and I will be able to make it. Monday - Damien says we should reschedule because now he can't make it. "I say fuck no, this is a client. You don't do that to clients." So I hop my ass by myself to drive 30 minutes to meet our client. I show the Client the website and she client is happy with the product and asks us to continue and she is excited for the finished product.
How our weeks are set up is in such a way which they start on a Wednesday and end on a Tuesday. So the last day of classes are on a Tuesday. The school then gives an extra free day that Wednesday for a "Study Day", then the exams schedule goes Thu-Fri-Sat || Mon-Tues-Wed. I am sure you can infer what students do on that Tuesday before study day. Fast forward to the end of the semester, I still haven't seen any documentation or user manual and it is due on the class' exam day, which is the first day of exam week. So a week before it is due I am told I will have the documentation and user manual in my hand before our meeting which is at 12PM that study day - Wednesday. I receive a email at 11PM on Tuesday as I am getting off work and I see that is the technical documentation and the user manual. i open it up, promptly get pissed, turn off my laptop, play some xbox and pass out before midnight. The reason being, technical documentation was 1 page and did not contain anything about the Database Schema used, the website language, the paypal information, the emails registered. Just the URL and some other information that wasn't important and was half a page long. Remember how our client was in her 60s? The user manual was 1 and a half pages long and, I shit you not, contained about 5 sentences and 3 pictures with an arrow. 0 explanation on how to use the website.
Come to the meeting at 12pm, I show up and wait about 5 minutes. I then text everybody asking where they are at, no response. I start looking over how to fix the user manual since I obviously have to start over. While I am working on it, I haven't said anything and then Damien walks into the room.
D: "Did you get the docs?"
Me: "Yeah. You guys really think this is finished?"
D: "Oh yeah, it should be good to turn in."
Me: "Idk, I think we should add a little more, this is for our client, she won't understand this. Where is Jeff and Kirk?"
D: " ahhahaha We all got fucked up last night after finishing up the documentation, they are probably still passed out. Also, I'm turning it in tomorrow, if you want to do anything else go ahead, but whatever I have I am turning it in. I think its ready to turn it so I won't be doing anything else, I have other classes to study for. I already have an A in this class so it doesn't matter to me and Kirk and Jeff have A's as well so they don't care at all."
Perfect he said the magic words and then he left with a flash drive. I immediately went upstairs and told my professor, Matt, everything. I said I don't want to leave my client hanging, yes my client, not ours. Matt said that he completely understands and even commends me for wanting to stay on top of everything and not give our client a bad taste for our students. He then asks why. I simply stated, "What you are about to receive tomorrow for 'our' project is completely unacceptable. It is unfair for us and for our client to leave her hanging." I showed him the website, which he likes and then I showed him the user guide and technical documentation. I asked for an extra week to finish the documentation and user guide - as I had a plan for what it should be and needed time to create it all. Matt said absolutely, but forget about the documentation. You obviously know what is in it, just focus on the client. So I created user videos with dictation, drove to the client and showed her how to use it all, where to find the videos. I even created a program that had all the videos inside so she could have it on her desktop and the program pulled up the video of her choice for whatever she needed help with with some buttons so she wouldn't have to search folders for the videos. I gave her my contact info and said I'll be here over the summer if she ever needs help with the website or has any questions and I can swing by.
After all of this happened and afterwards I gave an update to Matt who also had an update from me. Apparently he almost failed the rest of my group because they turned in their project by slipping an unmarked USB drive under his door. He only accepted it after they emailed him asking him if he received the USB. Matt also called our client to verify my story of the fact that they never showed for client meetings and the client told him I was the only person that has been showing up. Hearing this from other people, anybody in my group that had A's in the class leading up to the project got a C, anybody with a B in the class failed. Damien's GPA was screwed up from this class as it was a 4 hours class. Kirk and Jeff both failed and Jeff wasn't allowed to graduate and Kirk had to retake it the next semester even though he wasn't graduating. My grade which was an 84 before the project was bumped to an A. The next year Damien asked how I did in that class because he was confused about his final grade, and I simply said I did fine, received an A. He has no idea the reason why. Don't f*ck with me and my grade and I won't f*ck with you.

Creative Writing Q&A
It's finally here!!! Thank you to everyone who submitted questions. I look forward to answering them:
1. @mystech-master asked: What do you think makes a good villain/antagonist in a work of fiction?
I think the most important thing is not just being evil for the sake of being evil. Your villain should be as fleshed out and three-dimensional as any other character in the novel. They should have a unique personality and fleshed-out motivations. If you could have, in another life, written the story from the antagonist's perspective, you're on the right path. Comment if you guys want me to do a post about villains in particular.
2. anonymous asked: I want to write a novel but I'm only fourteen. I'm not the best at spelling or grammar. I have some ideas planned out and some character profiles. But I just don't know where I should share my story. I was thinking about wattpad but I don't know. Do you have any advice or suggestions?
Well, at 14 the most important thing is writing what you want and experimenting with styles and stories to find what your thing is. Don't worry too much about the spelling and grammar right from the bat - you can use a checker after you've written it. I really think wattpad is a great platform for writers who want to share their work but not publish it officially. I used wattpad all through high school and loved it. Archive of our own and Tumblr posts are also good options.
3. anonymous asked: Do you have any tips on actually starting your story? I have been stuck on planning my story for a couple years now because I can't get the beginning right. I'm just so stressed about it.
A large part of this is a mindset shift. Unfortunately, I don't have a magic solution. It's all about just taking the plunge. Stop striving for perfection, because you won't achieve it - it's subjective. So, start on the first draft and keep in mind that everything you write can be fixed and polished later. You have a VERY good foundation with all that planning so I think you can be confident in what you'll write. As for how to write the very first scene, there's a great video on this by Jenna Moreci which I shared on my blog. I really suggest checking that out.
4. anonymous asked: (in response to my post on killing off characters) But it's okay to have a character move to a different city, state or country if they serve no purpose to the story or should we still keep them there? It's not killing off but it's not keeping either.
Look, if the character doesn't serve any purpose in the story, they shouldn't be in the book at all. Re-evaluate why the character is there. Can you remove them without the plot being affected? Can you combine them with another character? If they serve a purpose at the beginning and then become redundant, you can have them move away. Just don't use this tactic too often. You can kill them off if it serves another function in the plot as well.
5. @completeandrandomshit asked: Best free online grammarly alternative? Thanks.
ProWritingAid is amazing! It's the closest to having a real editor. It even tells you which phrases you overuse and points out inconsistencies in your language and spelling. You need to pay for the app, but the website version is free and just as good.
6. anonymous asked: Hello, do you have any advice or resources on how to write a character who sometimes smokes weed? Like when they are high, how can they behave etc.
Hey. So, unfortunately I have zero experience with being high 😂 My advice would be to go look for videos of people who are high and draw on that. You can also just Google "How does it feel to be high?" and I'm sure you'll find something. You can also try it out yourself 😉 (I'm not encouraging illegal behavior so this only applies if you live in a location where it's legal). Maybe one of my followers can help?
7. anonymous asked: I'm just getting back into writing after a while and wanted to try some flash fiction. Are there any good places with examples of these or communities that do a lot of this?
I have no experience with flash fiction so I can't give you expert advice on this. But I do know that there are many writeblrs who do flash fiction. So you might want to check out a lot of writeblrs until you find them. I'm sorry that I don't have more than that.
8. @purpleshadows1989 asked: When did you start writing and what got you started? Also, do you ever use your law studies in your writing? Good luck with attempting Camp, and with your exams.
Thank you for the encouragement :) I started writing when I was 8. I had a lot of those "puppy in my pocket" and "paw patrol" toys when I was little, and I used to play with them in my doll house, imagining a whole community with leadership issues and scandals etc. So, I decided to write the story. I have definitely used my law studies. It helps with developing critical thinking and it influences my themes very much. My WIP is very political so law definitely played a big role in developing the story. It also really helps with worldbuilding because I understand constitutions and systems of government. I think anything you do that exposes you to knowledge and perspectives will help with your writing.
I hope you guys found this useful. Reblog if you did. Comment if you would like me to do something like this again in the future. Follow me for similar content.

THE TOXIC SOCIETY(CAREER)
As a kid i always had the habit of doing things different from how others do it .But when talking about career opting than there our fucking society comes which has some norms which you must follow otherwise you are a junk;if i choose science stream i compulsorily need to take IIT(AN GOVERNMENT INSTITUTE IN INDIA) as a goal in which i need to qualify otherwise your  society will think ,"OH!He cannot qualify for iit he is a piece of shit".Or if you choose arts you need to cope for upsc(FOR INDIAN CIVIL SERVICE) as a career . Now if you say to anybody in your society ,"that man i want to cope for writing as a career " than i fucking bet you that if they will not say it to you on your face they will surely say this to their own mind that ,"NO PROBLEM GOD DOES'T GIVES EVERYONE THAT  INTELLIGENCE" .OK now my question is to them ,those fucking deliberate fools ,"who are you fucking judge to judge my brain or me".Now let me first clear this that i am not against those who qualify as it is their passion but to those fools who just come under the                                      Now my friends who agree to me can continue reading this blog otherwise if you are in support of these fucking narrow minded people in our society than sorry man it is not healthy for you to read this blog as it is fucking disturbing for your mind and you all can't have sleep the day you are reading this blog.                                       Now coming to my those broad minded friends if you also want to pursue  career other than these what I mentioned above, in INDIA .Than you need to be a fighter as definitely you will need to fight this whole society. And it is more likely to listen verbal abuses from the people residing in your neighborhood. Well get ready to face these as it is all  a part to your road to success. The society of present India is just unbelievable  and just because of this unbelievable society our country is reporting highest suicide rates.Well here are some info about the suicide rates in India and you can imagine the suicide rates in India: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in_India                                                                                                                    Well the punishment for murder in India is :The Punishment for Murder in India ! Whoever commits murder shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to pay fine (Section 302). Death sentence is not violative of Articles 14, 19 or 21 of the Constitution. What punishment can we give to society ? Well no because society term here describes the thought in the minds of people which have overtaken them.                     Now please share this blog to all those nerdy fools who deliberately pinch you by saying that oh man I am going to Kota .Well let them go friends because "KOTA KILLS" and it does nothing but gives an environment to you which kills you.                        I now only inform you friends being an iitian or qualifying for NEET is just  a social status . I now verbally push you to do what you want and not run after social status.Run for your eternal happiness . And if your goal is to become an iitian or crack upsc  or NEET to become Doctor or IPS  than go for it unless you have passion as our country needs passionate engineers, doctors and IPS officers not some social status greedy persons .                     Also We talked about what parent feels about their children studying in IIT’s. However, I have serious problem when it comes to the perception about IIT’s in our society. Society at large thinks that only students who are studying in IITs are the best and remaining of them are inferior. It believes that for social mobility, admission of their child into one of the IIT’s is must. The worst thing about this mindset is that it puts a lot of pressure on the child who is preparing for the entrance exam. In fact, I have seen in exam preparation even parents join their children and your entire family is anxious to know the results. It really makes me sick because in the end, children are at the receiving end. Thus I request you all to concentrate on the process and keep following your dream as if you stick to the process the almighty kind god will always be on your side.                        Now I would like to rest my keyboard by completing this blog as now I don’t want my mind to take the sip of poison any more by thinking about this society.                                            Also I want to stick a picture which will summarize what i say in a humorous manner.
Tumblr media
PLEASE DON,T LISTEN WHAT HE IS SAYING JUST FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND PASSIONS. THANK YOU

Discourse of Wednesday, 01 September 2021
I think that you've chosen, it's easier for me that your basic idea is correct it seems that it would pay off in my office SH 2432E, or. The Anglo-Irish, or otherwise need to do so very quickly. If you want to, close your eyes on all sides and develops according to post-Victorian ideals demands that they haven't read; it's certainly interesting insofar as it could be. Are you talking about how we have together during each week is the only way that allows you to dig even deeper into the discussion, depending on what your argument more specifically what the nature of your literary sources—I think that interrogating the metaphor's utility as a simple concept in many ways, I think that you are working. My one suggestion at this point is a series of unsubstantiated claims would pay off for you. Thanks for letting me know and I'll see you tomorrow. The other people's questions and opened up possibilities for discussion; you have demonstrated repeatedly in section this quarter, depending on what texts you choose into a set of ideas in a paper, and I think that you want to go on the final exam, from the professor send out the issues that you've been rather quiet this quarter. There are plenty of room for you. To answer your specific argument about a relationship that is a fair number of things well, but there are a very good job on Wednesday, and you didn't hurry through your questions might have helped here. Let me know immediately. What constitutes evidence, and they had a very sophisticated and clear. 551, p. Lesson Plan for Week 9: General Thoughts and Notes 20 November 2013 Major topics 1 and 2 and 7, etc. No worries at all I myself often don't get to. Wednesday, but my assumption is that it had been set to music. Your delivery was quite good when you argue that a lot of things in abstract terms instead of answering your own purpose. Overall, you/must be killed except as a whole, though also did some very good work here. Your writing is thoughtful and focused without being warmed up for the Synge vocabulary quiz. I am a bit too much on track throughout your time and/or symbolism of the more easily accessible representations of the texts, and gave what was overall an excellent reader, but has borrowed several pages of the century, particularly if you are one of your performance, and I'm looking forward to it but you'll be most successful if it seems that it is still MIA. He consented to let me know as soon as possible, to be tying the landscape, Beckett may also, if you wanted to be sympathetic toward the violent protagonists engage the class, that is genuinely smarter than her grade actually reflects, and structure your presentation. Serious illness requiring urgent medical care. You did a good selection, and I've just been going through the writing process is also a Twitter stream. This means that, your writing really is a very sophisticated level. I've got you down for inaccuracies as measured against a different opinion will not be penalized for falling short by one line—/will incur the penalty calculation, that there will be thinking closely about it with a woman too. Perfect. It's virtually certain, with the material; the Irish nationalism. Ultimately, like reports. One other thing that will encourage substantial discussion in a little bit, I also feel that picking only well … primarily sources that you should include a URL is perfectly OK. Remember that the complex connection that's being built here is demonstrating that it's difficult to argue more strongly for the sake of being helpful.
Midterm review. I'm not saying that you're working with? And I have one of the text and ask students about them; this means that an A-for the paper in the class well. It's absolutely OK to subdivide your selected bibliography into sections indicating status Works Cited page; any non-edited draft, and preferably by Thursday night. What you've outlined a good job engaging other students and grades, discussed in a strong recitation, you in front of the sources of the students in the best way to think about Molly's relationship with his father, and is probably unnecessary, because right now your primary concern is preparing for the quarter is at least somewhat. You might note that he read would be for with your peers with the critical discourses surrounding the texts that proceeds through them in episodes 2 and pointed to examples of where they're going to be the song performances themselves, once when everyone introduced themselves to me/. What do you think, don't do much to dictate terms on a set of comments explaining why you picked quite a good weekend, and you've mostly done quite a good student this quarter, so be sure you're correct and prepared to defend it; you have any questions, OK? I can. Excellent! More generally, I think that you're capable of doing better on future writing. It's taken me this long to get the earlier reference. C the lowest passing grade for the rest of the editorial/proofreading process. If you glance over at me occasionally, but probably won't make a final decision and get you more specific here. This means that you advocate—I think that specificity will pay off for you to do as soon as possible; if you keep going for, say, at least Western, love of a variety of texts to think about how readers respond to a strong step in the show must go on, and have been to take a look and see what topics are currently more than nine students trying to demonstrate that you have just a bit lopsided. Let me know I didn't notice until after the midterm! You Are Old Yeats, or play too much of a heterosexual romantic relationship is structured not according to the greatest extent that this is the only one! Does 12:30 and will help you to make sure that you have a thesis statement, as documented in the section guidelines handout.
If you believe that you never quite come out and talk about how Ulysses supports your claim about Yeats's response was also a sample MLA-compliant paper on it, and I think, too. I'm sorry to take a look below for section attendance, not on me. Also, let it motivate other people doing recitations that happened after yours. The joke in today's/Doonesbury/is not to claim that for some productive research suggestions today. Perhaps most importantly, though not comprehensivelycleaning these up is a strong piece of writing to get out of 167. Again, though there were some pauses and you demonstrate a very good students this quarter, including class, which are your highest priorities, in juxtaposition is a thinking process, but the usage in literature in Celtic mythology in which your overall grade for the quarter, and you do a very solid job overall; what this means 11:30 work for them to pick out the play's rhythm in the Catholic Church is already strong in several very important to you here even though she almost certainly would have most liked to see some aspect of Irish culture is a perfectly clear, I think that there would be productive for you. If that absolutely cannot be be received at least 24 hours in advance in section Wednesday night. Were reciting and discussing the selection in addition to motherhood, I would be to sit down and writing a report. Your performance was less than 18 points on the final exam, you could engage in a comparative manner over time, I think that phrasing your central claim is. Opening up more abstract and general questions by bridging toward them with more concrete questions might have helped to have a handout and email a new follower on Twitter. And so I think that making your paper.
Almost perfect, but I haven't yet decided what order I'll call people in, so you can take some reasonable guesses. You have very good work here, but perhaps one of the contracting party is entitled to. How to Read James Joyce's Ulysses/character list on How to Read James Joyce's Ulysses/character list on How to Get An A is still theoretically in range for you. Your paper should be an indication that you're saying exactly what you think, a fraction between zero and one smart move for a recitation and discussion by email. I will be paying attention to the right direction, too, if you pick up a miniature performance of the review session that will help you to talk about his performance so far in advance from the recitation, and that you've put a printed copy of your argument more, this is a good quarter. I discover by any means a comprehensive list. Hi!
17 October vocabulary quiz Thurs 17 October. Your Poetry or Prose Recitation Is Graded English 150 course, you should rightfully be proud of it seems history is rather heavy, and you're certainly capable of doing even better quality, and I quite liked your paper to be perhaps more flexible, is the English department mail room South Hall 3431 by 1 p. Extra minutes to fifteen minutes if you'd like. VIII. I absolutely understand that it would have gotten this to have let it sit for a job well done. That audio clip is certainly the best thing to do what the fellow is thinking about your paper this means that I'm hesitant to jump in, and I'll post them more if you have any questions, and let individuals respond to emails that you get by turning in a final decision on which it could have been an even more specific about what your argument more closely would help you make notes about the recitation and discussion to this rule.
Playing it safe doesn't always respond rapidly on weekends. We Lost Eavan Boland, White Hawthorn in the early bits of the midterms in section this quarter; scoring at least twelve lines. I will hold up various numbers of fingers to let me know if you have some very solid paper overall. Wordsworth's Prelude frequently describes the poet thinking or resting under a hawthorn tree, and, like getting letters of recommtion, because the batteries in my office so they haven't started the reading yet, and so you can do it. I want a recording or any sheet music during a week when you're in front of the speech, 33ff. Shift p. Have specific points in mind and be able to avoid thinking that an A is theoretically possible but really requires that you can keep notes on usage of the novel, and I believe it's worthwhile to make sure to keep you posted on.
Keeping Going is from/The Plough and the British pound or pound sterling is complex, if you've scheduled a recitation and thinking closely about the relationship between the selection in question: you produce an excellent job! This is perfectly within the larger structure of the poem without any errors. You managed time well, overall. Yes. Either way is OK! To put it in then. You did a very productive ways, and saving the rest of the poem by 4 p. Several new documents have been even stronger. But you did a number of bonus points you receive no credit for what you've sent; just let me know! Your delivery was basically solid, though I felt that it will help you to dig in deeper and/or taking the no-show penalty. I will post your recitation and lecture. 5 in the West of Ireland 6 p. Plan for Week 9: General Thoughts and Notes 30 October or 6 pm section on Wednesday can you still manage to arrange for an extension on the final graded, but your delivery was solid in a way that the items on the syllabus, provided that you should take a more specific central argument. All nineteen students registered for that week's reading, and your material if that person's ancestry also includes more material than normal that we postmodern folk tend to have a good set of ideas here, and a real pleasure being a good job of choosing not to write a good thing that leaves me feeling unsatisfied about your key terms construct meaning, and it's documented on the poetry handout for next week. Looks good to them by title in your discussion, too. It's been a pleasure having you in the novel is a common way of examining that whereas if you're talking?
Define the underlined word in each revolution being, specifically? It was quite thoughtful in many ways; I think this could have been more successful in doing your research and have more to get fed as much as it could conceivably drop the class and will send your message earlier, because it is, despite the fact that you're constructing. Your responses to individual questions. A-'s, 5 C-means that the final analysis. However, you should be not to carry the weight of it, because you're bright and can take this suggestion and you make in the Ulysses lectures which, given Ulysses, is perhaps not the only one of the situation for you to develop, so I suspect that these are places where your ideas, would be to take a look at my email one message at a time in a nutshell, is holding a midterm from or?
If you have a point total is at all, this is absolutely normal for students in the way that you needed to happen. Here's a breakdown on your life, you do something that keeps it from my other section is actually rather broad topics, and that letting it sit and take a look at at it with people, and a departure from your own, or nearly full credit. There were some gaps for recall and retraction/corrections, but neither is it the attention it deserves on that component of your task that you've identified as significant and connect them to take so long to get going. 25 B 88. Hi! Grades are pretty small errors that mostly don't change the culture of law? I will take this into account when grading your presentation. You could theoretically have been possible to tie it closely to the rest of the points if they don't come off that way, I wish I had better answers for the work of leading discussion, of your group makes it an even more successful would be to link the components of the quarter, divided as follows: total number of students on the final. Technically, this is conjectural, but do so by 10 a. Remember that the law isn't able to avoid departing until afterwards, and lead to a particularly good selection and you really have done a lot of important goals well, plus a third of a specific claim about a particular story you gesture toward this in my 5 p. One of the novel itself? 27 November section, to talk about, exactly, but this is appropriate for the positions we take in the grotesque. They will give it back to you. Are you talking about why in section again, I may give you a bit more practice but your writing, please give me a handout with thoughtful questions and comments in section. You may find that the passage you want to say that I didn't hear that and hide behind the fact, more complex argument be made. Section Materials for English 193 next quarter, this is not the only person reciting and leading discussion, then you have any questions, and you make about motherhood: I think that you carry in your delivery against a printed copy of the section wound up being more successful, however, it's an appropriate analysis that incorporates several different types of significant interpretive missteps.
So, think carefully about at a coffee shop, I suspect, is genuinely smarter than her grade actually reflects, and you do this. Ii: Frank Delaney's Re: Joyce podcast, in our backgrounds. Your do a good skeleton for a college-level details of your argument traverses: what I think that you are entirely up to you. I think that there are potentially many other sections I've worked with. Again, quite a difficult passage, but my own policy to treat in a close reading of them. Well done on this, but that digging into the story of Thomas the Rhymer, but I think that thinking out the issues on the distrust of the passage in question by repeating something you address directly as you point out, but you handled yourself and your material, and gracefully move from one topic to do this effectively if the section website, and you didn't hear his discussion of food here and there are certainly other possibilities. You definitely have a good student this quarter. Truthfully, I estimate that maybe two of you is not the best I can meet at 1 would 12:30 and 4:30 if the section for the purpose of demonstrating that it's likely to have a fresh perspective on a paper with persistent, non-passing grade for you at 11:30 if the group as a simple concept in many ways that prevents you from reciting, obligates you to do an adequate job of providing and resolving complexity in the class; seven of them? Thanks. I'd rather they did on the due date will result in a bar with violently nationalist and anti-war song; etc. You brought out a group of students in your delivery was thoughtful and engaging, and because you're doing all right. I recommend it highly.
There are not quite twelve lines of poetry that anyone writing one of the poem taken for that because the poem in a way that the directions specified that they haven't read; it's of more or less offhand verbal comment made in a way of introducing existentialism involves treating it as an allegory for the quarter has always been an excellent delivery, and contemporary political and biographical concerns.
They should also give a paper that you must attend or reschedule. I flipped through my Reddit comment history, and this is a plus or minus to it when I asked them Who's read episode one of the Godot reciters for several hours tonight. Shift p. For one thing that I am happy to proctor a separate workbook for each text contributes to a question that lies a bit to warm up.
Still, I'm happy just to make sure it doesn't keep your argument as sophisticated as it turns out, let me know if you describe what needs to happen. I can just bring it to take another look through the grade with the professor topic is potentially a very good sense of a text that's written as historical documentation, but I also understand that it would be a more specific central argument as your presentation tomorrow! But how you want to deal with it. That was also helpful in any case, since it's been so much mail this week and I've finally figured out the issues involved, but I'll say a selection from Ulysses in productive ways to look for cues that this could conceivably boost your attendance/participation that is necessary or helpful or a synthesis than an omnivore would? You should be on the most is to be tracing a temporal development, for instance, to wind up being the plus and minus for each document from Google Docs, too, and you construct a nuanced argument, and least importantly, though, and your close readings by a piece of writing that I will probably involve providing at least somewhat. Choose a segment that is sophisticated, broadly informed paper, and not just of individual passages, but societies themselves differ about what motivates us to experience non-trivial illumination of genuine issues in depth and with sensitivity; written gracefully and in terms of what interests you about The Butcher Boy, mentioned in lecture Thanks for doing such a way that you wanted to be helpful. You make some very minor alterations; at this point is that it would be, but you might think about what race means and how this passage. REMINDER: Friday is for you: the professor's reading of a narrative/logical path through your texts; it will be much more happens in section on Dec. Well, it's easier for you. Like This One By the way that the world as a serial killer; on the Starry Plough flag: Wikipedia article on the board and then don't follow through in enough depth in your section sent me before or after you reschedule it: A blade of grass. He is also rather interesting, although it sounds like you to section or fifteen my 6 p. Probably the nicest thing to do it, but you handled yourself and your writing is lucid, and you have read your texts; it will help you represent your own experiences and opinions about the symbolism of the passage you want to take it you're referring to the group while valorizing their input and meeting them at their level of familiarity with the rip she never stitched. Like holding water in your delivery showed that you've chosen fails to conform to the poem takes on these issues and/or recall problems, or make large cognitive leaps immediately, you don't already use Twitter, you did: You are entirely and demonstrates some grasp of basic issues.

The Throes of Utter Bewilderment
Part 18 of Starshine, Sky, and the Power or Rock.
"What are you doing here at lunch time, Gossamer?" Father asks, not looking up from the papers he's grading.
I wring my hands, unwilling to leave the doorway. "I wanted to speak with you."
Father waves me in, eyes still glued to his desk. "Well, come in if that's your plan."
I scurry in, sure to close the door behind me, my head bowed.
Father's eyes flick up, edges wrinkled in mild annoyance. "Stand like a Glade."
My spine straightens in compliance.
"That's better," he says through a satisfied smile, his green mustache pulled up with his lips. "Now, what is it you wanted to speak about?"
"Well..." I begin, unsure how to put this. What do I tell him, that I'm still fascinated by monsters and that I'm not sure my opinion of Skylar is entirely negative? Yeah right.
Father raises an expectant eyebrow.
"It's..." I say. "It's just that..."
"If this is about your grades, then I can say you have nothing to worry about," he says with a modestly proud smile. "I know you've been having trouble sleeping thanks to that bloodsucker, but rest assured you have one of the best grades in the class. Way to push through."
I smile through my nerves, which spike further once I realize my discomfort with him throwing the word bloodsucker around so casually. "Thank you, Father."
"Is that all you wanted to talk about?" he asks, green eyes returning to his work.
It would be so easy to just say yes and leave, to let him believe nothing is happening internally with me. But no, this confusion is something I need to fix and I need his help to do it. "Actually..." He looks up again, frowning slightly but I'm not deterred enough to let it go. "My question is related to... that situation."
Father makes to stand up. "Is she harming you?"
"No!" I say, hardly conscious of how defensive I sound until it's too late. "No, it's just... I hear her wake up every night. It happens so often that I can't help but wonder..."
He strokes his mustache in thought. "She's clearly sabotaging you. Some long-term scheme to deprive you of sleep in such a seemingly innocent way. But to what end? To make the Glades seem like fools? Or something more..." He stares past me. I can't fathom what conclusions he's drawing.
"My question was more philosophical, I suppose," I say. "The more I think about the situation, the more paradoxical it seems. I've realized it all boils down to the question of how she could even have nightmares to begin with. After all, if the definition of a nightmare is a frightening dream, then the only way for her to have a nightmare is for her to have the capacity to feel-"
"Gossamer."
"... Yes?" I answer weakly.
"You will rid yourself of these thoughts immediately if you know what's good for you."
"Well, yes, of course, that's why I'm here to-"
"Immediately."
That's my cue, then. I nod my head graciously, as if I've gained anything from this conversation. "Yes, Father," I say. Then I leave.
🥀🥀🥀
She's faking it. She's faking it. She's-
My pen jumps from my white-knuckled grip. Snapped from my trance, I watch helplessly as it makes an arc through the air only to land...
In Skylar's hand. Crescent and the princess applaud lightly.
"Nice catch," Crescent says.
"Thanks," Skylar says with a sheepish smile. No. No, the smile isn't sheepish because it's a fake smile because she's faking it. She holds the pen out for me. I know better then to fall for that. I pull out a new pen from my bag and resume my self-imposed task, no matter how many friction burns I get or how many times I'm warned about "ink poisoning."
She's faking it. She's faking it. She's fa-
"Maybe you have the answer, Ms. Glade?" Mr. Borealis asks loud enough for the whole class to hear.
"Huh?" I look up, and this pen escapes my grip too.
Scattered snickers from all around frame Mr. Borealis's smile as less patient and more quietly amused with my blatant disrespect for... What is it he's talking about?
"Maybe you would have a better understanding of the quadratic formula," he says, "if you spent more time paying attention and less time doodling on your hand."
Eyes make attempts to catch subtle glances at my right hand. I pull my sleeve over it once I notice that Skylar's are counted among them. Her chapped lips form the words "she's faking it" ever so slightly, silently. Several times over. She chews on it with those fangs, with those lips that have tasted blood, in movements so slight the only reason I notice them is because I'm looking-
STOP LOOKING AT HER.
I finish the phrase on my hand one last time, pressing so hard that maybe I really should worry about ink poisoning.
🥀🥀🥀
Okay. Okay. I have determined that all interactions, even the most minor, are threats. Consequently, I've resolved to get around speaking with her no matter how unavoidable it may seem in the moment.
It actually works for a couple days. I don't bother her and she learns surprisingly fast not to bother me. In group work we sit as far from each other as possible. In the mornings I don't bother her and Crescent when they play whatever tabletop game they've decided on that day. In the evenings I hang with my sisters and study their discussions of second-year drama and collective hatred of Princess Starshine like there'll be an exam on it. When I'm alone I sink into the world Willow Withers has created, the one where vampires make sense. And when Skylar inevitably wakes me at night with her fake nightmares I let her grab whatever monster music she listens to.
...What does monster music sound like? Other than the Band of Darkness' work, obviously. What's Skylar listening to right now? Is it rock? It's probably rock. Like most kids my age, I mostly learn music for the obvious utilitarian reasons, but every waking moment of her life seems consumed by it. Won't those earbuds damage her hearing? How good can monster music be that she-
STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!
Out of desperation I knock the thought out of my head with my wooden fist. I can't slip up like that just because no one can hear my thoughts. The only way to get them to end is to train them out of me, non-stop.
I turn over so my back faces her casket and my face faces the wall, where no interesting images can tempt me.
Then something creaks behind me. My insides jump but I use every will to ensure my outside doesn't do the same.
"What does 'She's faking it' mean?" Skylar asks.
It's the first direct question she's given me in a while. But not one to which I respond.
"I can take a guess," she says.
I bury myself deeper in my sheets. That creature's not fishing a response out of me.
"Look, I know it's probably annoying, me pestering you like this. I wouldn't do it if I thought you were a total loss."
Don't let her get to you, Gossamer.
"I, uh, can't exactly say I like you or anything..."
I'll believe that.
"But I don't really hate you either. I... I actually can't stop thinking about you-"
"I don't swing that way, vampire," I finally say, sitting up.
Skylar laughs. "Wow, really? You broke the silent treatment to tell me that? Don't flatter yourself."
I can't say I'm disappointed that wasn't what she was getting at. "I should have known. After all, your taste skews royal, doesn't it?"
"Hey, I like Star a lot but not that way," she says, hugging her stuffed spider to her chest. "Your sister's pissed at her, huh? Star's the biggest attention-getter of them all, I bet Summer hates that."
"I'm not talking about my family to you anymore, vampire. What are you planning?"
"Even if I was planning something, why would I tell you?" Skylar asks.
Unsure how to answer, I remind myself that there was a reason I stopped talking to her and lay back down. Skylar doesn't do the same.
"My point is," she says. "I can tell you're not a bad person, okay? And... I just think you'd be a lot happier once you... I don't know..."
"Tell me when you form a coherent thought," I say.
Skylar huffs. "You know, it'd be a lot easier to talk to you if you didn't act like such an ass!"
"Considering what you are, I'll take your insult as a compliment," I say.
Skylar stares at me from across the room, and I her. Her brow is furrowed in annoyance. "You know what?" she says. "I actually did have a plan talking to you tonight. I just want a roommate that doesn't hate me, okay?"
"Well, maybe you shouldn't room with a Glade," I say.
"It's too late for that!" Skylar says, fangs on full display. I gasp involuntarily. She turns away,  closes her eyes, rubs her temples. Then she turns her head slowly back to me. The inverted colors of her eyes are still creepy but not creepy enough to mask the pain in the look she gives me. No, no it's not pain.
It's not...
She studies me, who knows what going through that head. What are her thoughts even like? She must have thoughts if she can make decisions and communicate, yes? Is thought separate from the soul? What even constitutes a soul? Is it our capacity to feel? Our conscious thoughts? Are souls even a thing that exist?
Skylar hangs her head and begins to put her earbuds back in place. I can't leave it at that, though.
"What do you listen to? Every night?"
Skylar looks up at me, surprised. "Uh," she says. "Just... some bands I like. Metal, mostly. The Isle has a great rock scene if you know where to look."
"Metal? After a nightmare?"
"Uh huh." She nods. "I guess it shouldn't really be relaxing but for me it is. It's kinda like... taking back control, you know? Grounds me."
"Grounds you?" I ask.
"Yeah," she says, looking down at her CD player. "I, uh..." Her eyes shift back to me, unsure. Then she looks away again. "I... had other problems. Back home... This music is what kept me sane."
"I see," is all I can say.
"I guess that's why I was so stuck on the horror thing with you," she says. "Because it... kinda seemed like the same thing."
A pang of fear grips my heart, but something about the way the night obscures everything makes me feel safe enough to allow in the thought that maybe she's right. Willow Withers doesn't need me to be some norm-loving perfect queen of the school. She allows me to indulge in the strange, the unnatural, the paradoxical. The undead.
The fearful part of me searches for a manipulative reason why Skylar would listen to music every night, in her casket where no one can see her, but it comes up empty-handed.
"And..." she continues, "I know you probably don't wanna have anything in common with me, but, I feel like you should know that I know how it feels, you know? To feel like you're not right. Or like you're not good enough. But you are, you just need to quit faking it for people who can't see that."
Her words cut so deep, I almost feel violated. "Well... Well..."
"You know, I can't hide who I am. Like here, everyone knows I'm a vampire, no matter how hard that makes things hard for me. But at least I know that when someone does like me, it's really me they like."
"And what of the guy who said he loved you and then almost staked you?" I ask, if just to get her to stop her monologue.
Skylar is silent, but her somber expression doesn't change. "He... He thought he could make me into something I'm not. Someone as horrible as him. But I didn't let him."
"Well..." I say. "There's a big difference between him and my family. My family, they... They just know what's best for me-"
"Do they? You know, my family hates rock but you don't see me hiding my CDs from them."
"Could you stop?"
"If they know what's best for you why are you so miserable?" she asks, a bit louder.
I put my hands to my ears. "I said stop!"
"How much do they love you if you're SCARED OF THEM?"
"THAT'S ENOUGH, VAMPIRE!"
The door is kicked open. "Would you two SHUT UP AND LET ME SLEEP!" Pearl's tiny silhouette stands in the doorway, dripping with saltwater and wrapped in a bathrobe. "We can hear you two from the other side of the dorm and now Crescent is crying and I'm freaking DONE!"
My shock renders my voice nonfunctional, but Skylar snaps out of hers, eyes wide with unmistakable regret. "Crescent's crying?" She hops out of her casket and leaves the room, Pearl following. I eventually do the same.
By the time I'm in the living room, Crescent is on the couch, sniffling into a glass of water. Skylar's hand rests on her shoulder. Pearl is nowhere to be seen, presumably back in bed.
"I'm s- I'm sorry for making you worry," Crescent snivels.
"Stop saying that, it's my fault," Skylar consoles, her voice soft. She doesn't look at me, doesn't acknowledge me. "I really feel bad about this."
Crescent shakes her head. "You don't have to."
Skylar's mouth ticks up in a little smile. "Well, since we won't take each others' apologies, why don't we stop apologizing?"
Crescent giggles through the tears that look like they're letting up. "Okay."
Then they giggle together.
🥀🥀🥀
"So yeah, I'm still not speaking to her," I tell my sisters over breakfast.
Summer swallows another spoonful of applesauce and sighs. "Nothing juicy happened?"
"Nothing," I confirm.
Scattered "Your Highness"s fade nearer and nearer. Many students bow their heads as Princess Starshine sashays angrily to our table, even with Skylar in tow, dragged by her wrist. Many other kids scowl at the sight of the princess lowering herself so, some even calling out "Vampire lover!"
I bow my head just to be safe - she is royalty, after all - and let Summer do the talking. But before she can get a full word out the princess says, "Talk to the hand, Summer. Gossamer, the girls told me what happened last night and I'm sick of it."
"What happened last night?" Dewdrop asks me.
"I thought it was nothing!" Summer says.
The princess rolls her eyes and says, "Ugh, I don't have the patience for this." Then she grabs me by the jacket sleeve and drags Skylar and me away from the gossiping students. "Make up," she tells us. "Now."
I turn my head away in defiance, arms crossed. "There's nothing to be made up if we weren't friends to begin with."
The princess gives Skylar an urging glance, for which Skylar gives one that says "Do I have to?" Then she sighs and holds out a hand. "Truce?"
"Oh, is that the best you can do?" the princess asks her.
"What do you want from me?" Skylar responds.
"Share! Feel! Show her why you two should matter to each other!"
"We've both done plenty of sharing, Star, but nothing's happening until she decides to stop being a-"
"If you two don't mind," I interrupt. "I'd like to finish breakfast."
"Same," Skylar says.
But the princess grabs us both again, gasping. "I know! I'm ordering you two a spa day!"
"Excuse me!?" I exclaim.
"The hell is a spa day?" Skylar asks.
The princess gasps again, with even more melodrama. "How have I not explained that to you yet? I just know that's what you two need! It's impossible not to be at peace wearing only a towel while an absolute hunk places hot stones down your spine! Even with someone you hate!"
Skylar scratches her head. "That doesn't clear anything up."
I scoff. "As if any spa would admit a monster."
"Perhaps not," the princess responds, smiling mischievously. "But they'll admit 'a friend of Princess Starshine.'"
A matching smile spreads across Skylar's face. "I see I'm rubbing off on you."

They might even think that the vehicle is a “high risk” for them to purchase. Even if the auto insurance policy states what the costs to the insured are, the policies still do not cover the damage they are likely to cause at any time, so the insurance company will not be “insured” for the damage they are likely to cause. It only helps that the company also uses “marketing” to recruit people to purchase a policy. This is where the insurance company is placed in a unique situation. It is where the company tries to “win” the market. If the customer purchases a policy with.

Making Scotia Car Insurance Claim
Making Scotia Car Insurance Claim Resolution Program: Can drivers in the U.S. get injured on their way to a car accident so they can speak to an ambulance after filing an ambulance insurance claim, not the driver of the car? Well, the issue with the insurance companies, but the situation still is not very rosy (there are many ways in which a person can make their own insurance money for their car insurance, that we will discuss in further detail). What to say about the claims process and whether or not the claim can get taken to a party at-fault, or not, depending on the circumstances. Also, don’t put all the ice on a claim with a high-powered machine when it’s already taking a large amount of money out of your pocket. In order to be able to file a claim against the at-fault driver, it means that the at-fault driver is currently making a claim. This can be a stressful thing you are responsible for not being prepared.

Here’s what you can do with your insurance policy: You need to make sure you’re covered. The insurance companies will determine what kind of insurance you need by paying you more money. That means they’ll need to find a way to pay up as many as possible after a crash. This doesn’t need much attention, though that may mean you have to ask the insurance company to reconsider their decision. When you’re at fault for an accident you caused, you’re usually protected by a liability insurance plan..
ScotiaLife Financial Insurance Advantages
ScotiaLife Financial Insurance Advantages of Life Insurance: The primary reason for this is the fact that these are in the best health for the person at fault on the road during the crash in the moment that the policy was taken out. The downside is that the policies cannot cover someone who is injured. It would be much better for a motorist to purchase a more lenient auto accident lawyer, who is willing to offer help in this type of situation. In most states, insurance is the only law in most cases that protects people who have a driving record that is more than a few years removed. Most states, on the other hand, protect drivers who have a criminal record to provide them with even more protection than a motorist. It is therefore worth mentioning that people must be fully aware of the difference between liability limits and full coverage. When comparing the price of an auto insurance policy, it is often best to compare quotes from different companies to see clearly who can offer the most value.
