Replacing physical buttons and controls with touchscreens also means removing accessibility features. Physical buttons can be textured or have Braille and can be located by touch and don't need to be pressed with a bare finger. Touchscreens usually require precise taps and hand-eye coordination for the same task.

Many point-of-sale machines now are essentially just a smartphone with a card reader attached and the interface. The control layout can change at a moment's notice and there are no physical boundaries between buttons. With a keypad-style machine, the buttons are always in the same place and can be located by touch, especially since the middle button has a raised ridge on it.

Buttons can also be located by touch without activating them, which enables a "locate then press" style of interaction which is not possible on touchscreens, where even light touches will register as presses and the buttons must be located visually rather than by touch.

When elevator or door controls are replaced by touch screens, will existing accessibility features be preserved, or will some people no longer be able to use those controls?

Who is allowed to control the physical world, and who is making that decision?

#i get why this is happening; it's way cheaper to buy an off-the-shelf touch kiosk or tablet and run your ui on a web server #rather than integrating with custom hardware and physical inputs #but that should not just removing accessibility features #and I know that digital devices can help a lot with accessibility: e.g. screen readers #but I wouldn't rely on any of those being installed on someone else's device

#this is like the time I spraypainted a bunch of screw heads gold #because I was putting up gold spraypainted shelf brackets and wanted these black screws to not stand out #and to make it easier I took a piece of thin cardboard and cut a series of Xes in it #then pushed the screws in a little bit and positioned it over the gap between boards on the back deck #and used my hammer to just plonk those screws into place so I could spraypaint them! #i felt so clever I posted a video of it #(gold spraypaint makes me feel giddy and childlike) #and everyone was like #“GIRL NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT DON'T TRY TO *HAMMER* YOUR *SCREWS* INTO A DECK!” #it took like. so much work to try to explain to people why this was a problem I wanted to solve #much less the mechanism by which i solved it #my brain is just. So fun fact: when bunnies are mad (or just wanting to get your attention) they will thump their hind feet on the floor very loudly!

Does Dusty (or his lil' dust bunnies) do the same?

He is a pretty relaxed and reserved kinda person, so it would be extremely rare for them to actually do “thumps”. And his lil dust bunnies are too tiny to really have noticeable thumps, they just kinda hop around (or roll in a light breeze)

However what he WILL do often is flop on his side whenever he’s very happy/comfortable with someone!

My own fault for going on Twitter, but I just saw the most astounding argument I've ever seen, and I can't believe this has to be said, but the phrase "White savior narrative" means something and you really shouldn't use it if you don't know what it means.

What a White savior narrative is: a story where a White character rescues non-White characters, taking up the "White man's burden" of moral and ethical leadership because, in the text of the story, non-White characters are unable to help themselves and each other and need a White character to save them from their suffering.

What a White savior narrative is not: one partner in a romantic couple helping their partner in hard times while consistently treating them with love and respect.

I have to believe that this is not a common idea even in certain circles of the OFMD fandom for my own sanity, but if your argument for why Ed hasn't been abused in the text of the show is because "that would mean Stede saving him is a White savior narrative," please examine why you think that. Ed is a survivor of abuse, this is simply a fact, but Stede helping him work through the resulting trauma isn't a White savior narrative, that's one half of a couple loving and supporting his partner. I get that there aren't a lot of mixed-race couples in fiction, but if you think that a White man in a relationship with a brown man can't support his partner without that being Problematic, then it really just implies you don't see people of color as, like, full people who are just as deserving of support and sympathy as anyone else.
