Sonja Ainsley

Figuring out Sonja's personality and who she is as a person was a challenge. I tried hard to make sure she wasn't a cookie cut out of other characters I've written. I wanted to see more vulnerability in a character, and write a person who is bold but uncertain of themself at times.

Sonja is someone who has been through a lot in life. Maybe nothing extreme like Karl, but trauma is trauma, and negative experiences can impact the way we approach ourselves and others. I wanted to show that she's careful because of her past, but assertive when she needs to be.

I try to write Sonja as the yin to Karl's yang. While he's brash and blunt, she's more calm and playful. Both of them want to emulate the other in some capacity. They're opposites in many ways, but it's these qualities they both admire and respect in each other that make them a good match.

Fic Updates

The Sacrifice is gonna have multiple endings. I tried to go with one or the other, but couldn't. One is going to be more canon compliant to RE8 and what we see in the game, while the other will do its own thing. There may be a third option, and I'm playing around with some material before I decide.

I don't know if you saw this post, but there is a little snippet of an upcoming chapter!

Hope that answered some questions! I know this fic has been on a LONG ass hiatus, but I think the updates will be worth the wait once it's all finished on my end.

oooo okay this is a great question because eye color actually is a BIG thing in my story!! There's two main schools of magic that humans use- light and dark magic. Neither is inherently good or bad, and it's kind of like a yin and yang thing. The ability to use magic in any safe and meaningful capacity is somewhat rare, and it's determined by birth. Those who have a natural affinity for light magic have eyes the color of cut emeralds, and those who have a natural affinity have eyes that are the color of orange flames. Ori, being a dark mage, has orange eyes, and Darius, being a light mage, has emerald eyes. Elves are also a thing in this story and one of their most iconic traits is their eyes that come in unnatural, startling shades of blue- ranging from the exact color of ice to the inkiest midnight blue. Nero and Chrion, the major elven characters, both have blue eyes. Nero's eyes are more in the icy range, while Chiron's eyes look more like the sea. aight lads this post has gotten a lot longer than I intended (this is actually a lot of questions orz) so I'll put everything else under the read more so my followers don't hate me lmfao

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

Ori- Feelings of inadequacy and uselessness. It's what spurred her to try to master each Art and be listed as one of the true greats in magical history. She wants to learn, she wants to do, she wants to be of use. If she can't help or be needed or of use she feels lost, wilts, and retreats into herself.

Darius- Anger. He doesn't look like it, and it's pretty difficult to rouse his anger, certainly, but if someone manages to truly piss him off he tends to do some highly unethical shit and it's very hard for him to cool down afterwards. He gets all shaky and restless for a while and has to pace and then meditate to calm himself down. He holds a lot of grudges and it's hard for him to forgive. It's a part of his personality that he's deeply ashamed of and he hates it when people see that side of him.

Nero- Resentment. Boy is a petty, salty bitch (not that I blame him) and it affects pretty much every facet of his character. He's been treated like shit for a good chunk of his life and so it completely colors his worldview and influences the things he does and says throughout the story. Chiron- Ooooo, this one's hard! Chiron is probably the least developed out of the main four, which I hope to remedy soon. For now, I would say it's arrogance. The man is good at magic- more than most humans, by virute of being an elf, and he's pretty good for an elf. He's extremely confident in his abilities and it gets to his head sometimes. 🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?

Ori- A small doll that Isra, her mentor at the abbey, made for her when she was a little girl. When she got a little bit older, her friend Asar put tiny little bracelets on it made out of bronze and glamoured them to look gold, to match the bracelets that the people at the temple wore. They were her two dearest (and kind of only) friends at the monastery so she treasures it a lot. If she ever lost it, she'd be absolutely distraught, and probably bawl like a baby. Darius- A handwritten book of prayers that was given to him by his nonnus, Evander- the monk that was his surrogate father and main teacher at the temple that he grew up in. He got it when he turned ten and he still carries it around with him to this day, flipping through it to find the right prayer to ease his mind. If he ever lost it or it got irreparably destroyed, he'd be pretty out of sorts for a good while, and then he'd probably write to Evander and apologize for losing it because he loves his dad v much and feels like he's dishonoring him by losing his hard work. :( Nero- A sword and scabbard that his father gave him before he was sent to live at the Lucerian royal court at age 13. It's a piece of his Elven cultural heritage (one of the few he still has) and a sign that his father truly viewed him as a proper elven man. If he ever lost it, he'd be genuinely inconsolable. Man would still be mourning that sword a hundred years later. Chiron- A silver and carved moonstone necklace given to him at 13. Traditionally, necklaces like this are given to youths once they turn sixteen, but since he was also sent to live at the Lucerian royal court alongside Nero, his parents gave it to him earlier. It's a beautiful peice and Chiron wears it near constantly. If he ever somehow lost it or it was irreparably destroyed, he'd certainly be upset by it, but would eventually come to terms with it. If he ever got his hands on moonstone, he might try to make a replacement, similar to the one that he lost but different enough to show how he's changed in the 52 years since he got the original necklace. 🌙 MOON - what is your oc’s greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

Ori- To be the very best mage there ever was and to help people from all over any ways that she can. She literally raised a man from the dead solely to make him to teach her light magic because light magic is a lot more conducive to directly helping people, so I'd say she's ready to do just about anything. Darius- Currently, it's to regain his lost memories from the last seven years, and to find out who murdered him and why. He is fully willing to go across the continent and break into some rather secure places to figure it out. He is usually pretty hard lawful except when it comes to this stuff, lmao. Nero- To be back among his people instead of at the human Lucerian court. He'd genuinely be down for murder if it got him home, but the knowledge that a very tense geopolitical situation that could put his people in jeparody rests upon his shoulders prevents him from ever actually doing anything meaningful to acheive this goal. Chiron- To become genuinely respected in his field. He knows that he isn't fully taken seriously due to his elven nature, youthful appearance, and status as a hostage, and while it doesn't make him seethe like how it does to Nero, his ass is a tad bit chapped over it. People in the court recognize that he's certainly talented, but don't seem to realize that he's worked extremely hard to get to the level of precise skill in magic that he has and that it's not due to elven genetics like many who dismiss him claim- especially when he's practicing a human school of magic, which is much harder for elves to do. He generally lets that stuff roll off his back like water on a duck, but occasionally he'll show off more than he needs to to prove his worth to the naysayers. 🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don’t want to show other people?

Ori- She doesn't like to show off her insecurities or feelings of inadequacy. It makes her feel lame, and Ori wants to be the diametric opposite of lame at all times (by virtue of being a teenager, she fails in the "be cool as fuck at all times" category. repeatedly. bless her heart.) Darius- As mentioned earlier, he hates it when he gets into a rage, especially around other people. It's very shameful for people to see him lose control like that, particularly because it's normally really hard to get him worked up. Nero- Man actually has a heart under his jaded exterior, but only about three people (including a certain princess 👀👀👀) actually know that, and he would like it to stay that way. Chiron- He's made kind of a reputation of his "go with the flow" and "it is what it is" nature, so he doesn't like it if someone can tell if something is seriously affecting him. He has a brand to uphold, after all. 🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them? Ori and Darius came to me in a dream, actually. I dreamt I was a young mage who found a dude dead in a ditch and I brought him back to life with woo-woo magic necromancy powers. So that's where the very spark of inspiration came from! I would also say that Ori initially took some inspo from Megumin, lol. The first thing that I decided for both of them were their color palettes, as well as their hair and eye colors! Nero was based lowkey off of a character from a very old and very abandoned fantasy story of mine. I loved him as a character too much to throw away with the rest of what was a kind of unsalvageable story, so I adapted him and made him his own thing. I think one of the first things that I decided about him was that he was going to have incredibly short hair for an elf, which would end up becoming pretty symbolic since it showed his ironic disconnect with his birth culture. Chrion's inspiration was HIGHKEY inspired by Mathis Quigley from the wonderful webcomic Unsounded. (Absolutely read that if you get the chance, btw). The pale pretty boy looks, the arrogance, the skill at magic, the fondness for dark blue... man takes a lot after Quigs, I fully admit. He's diverged a lot from Quigley, though, since his inception, and I think that he stands as his own character. The first thing that I decided about him was that he'd be a magic user, to compliment Nero's very martially oriented build, and to give Ori and Darius someone to have cool magic duels with. 🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you’ve ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version?

Ori- She was a LOT more morally fucked, I would say, and she's already pretty morally fucked so you can imagine how bad she was. Originally dark and light magic were a lot more black and white but I found that kind of boring so I ditched it within like a month of the story's creation, and Ori's original, significantly darker characterization went with that. Darius- He used to not have a background as a solider- went straight from the Monastery to [REDACTED]. I decided that that was kind of boring and that he needed some more development to make certain aspects of his personality make sense, and to better connect him with people to help facilitate the search for his memories, so I decided to have him join the Lucerian army in the mage division. This ended up being great for his character development and it gave us his CO, Marcus, who is one of my favorite characters because he's just fucking funny and also Darius' bestie.

Nero- His original-original characterization from the first abandoned story was that he was an older brother tracking down his younger sister who he viewed as a traitor to their people and their kind for helping two human princes escape death. That all has gone clear out the window in this new story, but a lot of fundamental personality traits remain. Chiron- He's more ambitious than he was originally, and he's a little less nice to humans than he was originally- he's kind of ambivalent towards them now compared to his initial positivity. 💚 GREEN HEART - what things make your oc feel comforted? hugs, kisses, food?

Ori- Girl loves cuddles and hugs. Having someone's arms around her helps her feel safe, grounded, and most importantly, loved. Naturally, she craves this like how a cat craves sunlight and will bask in the cuddles and affection if you give it to her. Darius- A good bowl of soup is always a nice comfort for him. He doesn't mind hugs and cuddles, though, but it has to be from the right person. If he gets them from the right person, this man will literally melt in their arms. Just goes boneless. Nero- He'd literally die before admitting this, but he loves it when someone runs their hands through his hair, and especially so if they kind of gently scritch his scalp while doing so. The man may be an elf but he's a doggo at heart.

Chiron- A steady hand on his shoulder and some kind, appreciative words can rally Chiron from an emotional, mental, or physical low. Just knowing you appreciate him or trust him can make him go from :( to :)

Ooooo can you do harry x luna for the ask thing? I think it's a cool pairing!

I'm not a Harry/Luna shipper - but here's what I got:

They both enjoy the quiet unsaid things.

When they come across a candle display they go from candle to candle putting the different scents under eachother noses until they go nose-blind from the combination of scents.

Harry does the cooking, but it quite happy when she helps with chopping and such (but her wilder experiments with spice, pickles and condiment combinations has made him firmly try to control the cooking process after initial prep/mechanical processes.

Their home is awash with sensory experiences that are soothing- cozy soft blankets, hall with wood you can run your fingernails down and it makes this great thrrrroom noise, tinkling chimes in the garden. Luna helps Harry sit down and actually experience them.

Farmer's markets are their absolute favorite.

Luna gently curls around him and can find this one spot that if she rubs it he goes boneless.He passionately kisses her and can make her let out unrestrained sounds she'd never thought she'd make with anyone. She'd always been so in control of how she acted and what she did. People always thought she was a relaxed hippie-type, and she was in some ways- but they didn't see how much of it was how she protected herself.

They both can gently see behind their carefully built walls. She can help him open up and feel all the pain and sadness and let it out- he can help her open up and feel all the anger and frustration and let it out. 

He's the sun- bright, fiery, direct. She's the moon- subtle, calm, gentle.

When Lan Zhan and Nie Huaisang entered the Conversation Room Lan Xichen, and Masters Xiao and Song were already there.   Xue Yang was already kneeling in the center.  An Iron ring had been attached around his neck, which was chained to post in the center of the room.  His…remaining arm… was shackled to the pole from behind, as well as his ankles, forcing him into the kneeling position.  He laughed when they walked in.

“Well if it isn’t the two LEAST intimidating people they could have POSSIBLY sent.”  Xue Yang laughed.  “It’s a shame Chifeng-Zun had to die.  He would have been MUCH better at this.  Instead I’m stuck with the pathetic little brother who is so inept it’s a miracle his Sect hasn’t fallen to pieces yet.”

Nie Huaisang didn’t rise to the bait.  Instead he sat down at the table and started to serve the tea.

“And you brought a LAN with you, and not just any Lan, the one who is SO famous for following the rules that he had to go hide himself away after he broke them himself.  Am I supposed to believe that the two of YOU are going to come up with anything more interesting than what I’ve been subjected to before?”

Lan Zhan joined Nie Huaisang at the table.  Apparently Xue Yang had already finished insulting the others in the room, because he was ignoring them.

“You know, it would just be better if we came to some sort of deal.  Jin Guangshan was very open to a partnership, rather than trying to use force.  He was interested in demonic cultivation, and I happen to have some experience with it.  Also, he needed someone to help break his bastard boy and the Yiling Patriarch himself.  Something that I was MORE than happy to help him with.”

Xue Yang had a grin plastered on his face.  He laughed again, as if he had said something amusing.  “I’ve been so BORED since his other bastard sent me to guard his boyfriend’s body.  I wonder if you’d let me play with one of my pets again.”

Nie Huaisang clinked his teacup when Xue Yang had said “boyfriend”.  He finally looked over at Xue Yang. Lan Zhan shot a look at his brother, who looked shocked.

“Oh I see, you didn’t know did you?” Xue Yang laughed again.  “That Jin bastard was SO upset that daddy made him kill his lover.  He came to me BEGGING to get out of Wei Ying how he managed to bring back the Ghost General.”  Xue Yang laughed manically.  “It’s just too bad that I had already broken him at that point, so he was useless.”

It was Lan Zhan’s turn to fumble his teacup.

“Have you tried him out yet?  He has the most intoxicating screams.  And he used to beg me so prettily to cane his balls.  It was a shame that he never called out my name though, it was always his Lan Zhan that he screamed for when he climaxed.”

“So, you are working for Jin Guangyao?“ Nie Huaisang finally asked a question.

Xue Yang laughed again.  “I work for no one but myself.  I saw an opportunity to leave the confines of Koi Tower, so I took it.  And, if I may be frank, I’ve been having WAY more fun toying with everyone’s plans.  Who do you think it was who planted your brother’s arm in Mo Manor?  Who do you think it was who convinced Little Master Mo to attempt the Sacrifice Summon?  Do you think that I just LET you find me in Yi City?  I was bored, and wanted to see my pets again.”

Xue Yang shuffled forward a bit, with an earnest look on his face.  “If you don’t want to share the pretty screaming Wei Ying, maybe you’ll let me have the tight virgin boy?  He clenched down SO TIGHT when I-“

Lan Zhan’s teacup shattered because of how hard he was gripping it.  Xichen placed a steadying hand on Lan Zhan’s shoulder.

“…so is that a no?”  Xue Yang asked with a knowing grin.  “I’ll tell you who has the Yin Iron shard…if you let me have a round with either of my pets.”  He bargained.  “Or…let me watch as YOU have a round…”

Lan Zhan was concentrating on his breathing.  He was trying not to give into the rage that was burning through his meridians.  He KNEW Xue Yang was trying to get him to snap, trying to get him to lose control.  He needed to be in control.

“Would you like me to tell you how to get Wei Ying to submit?  He can be a wild one, but by the time I was done with him, he was docile enough to be put on display in the main chamber at Koi Tower.”

Lan Xichen laid a hand on Lan Zhan’s shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze, reminding him to hold onto his control.  “If you’re done saying anything interesting, we shall begin.”  Lan Zhan spoke, and his voice was surprisingly calm and detached.

Masters Xiao and Song, as well as Lan Xichen, took that as their invitation to leave.  So they did.

“Strip him and bind him on his back on the table.”  Nie Huaisang ordered the guards.

“Ooooo, so DEMANDING.”  Xue Yang mocked as he was being manhandled.  “Be careful or I may get turned on.”

“Who took the Yin Iron Shard from you at Yi City?”  Nie Huaisang asked.

“Oh no, I gave you my terms SECT LEADER.  I’m not-“  Xue Yang was cut off by a guard pulling a dark cloth down over his mouth and nose.  A second guard tipped a bucket of water, letting a small stream spill out onto the cloth.  They counted for 5 seconds, then stopped pouring water and lifted the cloth.  They let Xue Yang breathe for 5 seconds, then repeated the process.

Xue Yang thrashed in his bindings and made horrible choking noises, but he held up through multiple cycles, refusing to answer Nie Huaisang’s question.

A guard entered the room and bowed.  “The blacksmith is ready.”

Lan Zhan motioned to the guards to stop the waterboarding.  He walked over to the table and slapped a teleportation talisman on Xue Yang.  The entire table vanished.

They met Xue Yang over at the blacksmith, still bound to the table, screaming at the blacksmith petulantly.  The blacksmith had speared an iron ring through Xue Yang’s shoulder, the one that had the arm severed, and was now pounding the hot metal closed, to complete the ring.  Every time his hammer hit, Xue Yang cried out and cursed at the blacksmith.

“You should consider being nicer to him.  He handles sharp, hot metal all day.”  Lan Zhan scolded.

When the blacksmith finished, and doused the metal and shoulder in quenching liquid, Xue Yang let out a long, high pitched scream.  “FUCK!  Fine, it’s Su She.  Su She has the fucking Yin Iron Shard.”

Lan Zhan bent over Xue Yang’s face.  “Now, what that so hard?”  He mocked before slapping another teleportation talisman on him, sending him and the table BACK to the Conversation Room.

“Hold him up on his knees.”  Lan Zhan ordered as he went over to the instrument wall.  He picked out the “humbler”, as was described in the texts.  It was a long piece of wood, about one and a half feet long.  It curved to fit snuggly against butt cheeks, and the center had a three inch long by half inch slit in it.  The wood was actually two pieces, with bolts on either end to tighten the two pieces together.

Lan Zhan walked back over to the table.  He reached between Xue Yang’s legs and pulled his balls back between them.  Nie Huaisang suddenly appeared next to him.  “Let me help.”  He separated the pieces of wood, place one on either side of the stretched skin of Xue Yang’s ball sac.  He then tightened down on the bolts, trapping the balls, exposed, and resting just below Xue Yang’s ass.

Lan Zhan had the guards bend Xue Yang down, so his chest was pressed to the table and his ass was in the air.  He bound Xue Yang’s remaining wrist to his ankle.  He then ran a rope through the newly installed ring at Xue Yang’s shoulder and tied that to the other ankle.

“Fuck, I didn’t realize how DIRTY Lan Disciples really are!”  Xue Yang tried to deflect from the seriousness of the situation as Lan Zhan used more rope to secure Xue Yang to the table.

Now, with Xue Yang’s balls and ass sticking up in the air and exposed,. Lan Zhan was ready to administer the first punishment.

“How many…sessions…did you take to break Wei Ying?”  Lan Zhan asked with no emotion, as if he weren’t curious either way about the answer.

“Is the Honorable Hanguang-Jun interested in being my apprentice?  Does this get you all hot and bothered?”  Xue Yang mocked.

“You’d better just give him a number.  It’s going to be a LONG night if you don’t.” Nie Huaisang warned.

“Oh!  What’s the little discipline Lan going to do?  Cloud Recesses doesn’t have anything more exciting than a discipline whip.”  Xue Yang laughed.

“How many sessions did you take to break Wei Ying?”  Lan Zhan repeated his question.

“Do you want when he first begged me to cane him in the balls, or when he finally was eager to do everything he was told in the Main Hall of Koi Tower?”  Xue Yang asked, sounding serious.  “Because there are different levels of breaking a person.”

Lan Zhan took a couple deep breaths to steady himself.  “Both”.

“Well, if you want to get technical, he finally broke and begged to climax after about 200 days without release.  Then I think it was somewhere around 3 years in that he finally begged me to cane his balls without being prompted.  And it only took about 2 years after that to get him fully trained for his position in the Main Hall.”  Xue Yang bragged as if he was describing training a horse.

“Do your worst Han-gu-ang-Jun.”  Xue Yang mocked.

Lan Zhan walked back over to the wall.  He saw a whip, that looked horse tail in length, with long leather strips instead of hair.  He chose it and went back to the table.

“You will count, or I will start again.  Will not finish until you reach 200. For the number of sessions to make Wei Ying beg for relief.”  Lan Zhan ordered.  He then drew the whip back and struck Xue Yang’s exposed ass.

Nie Huaisang sat back at the table and sipped at his tea as Lan Zhan mercilessly whipped Xue Yang.  He was still putting up a brave face at stroke number 50.  At stroke 100 he was starting to show beads of sweat on his face.  At stroke 150 his breath was hitching with every stroke.  By the time they reached 200, he was showing signs of pain on his face.

Lan Zhan walked back over to the wall.  He picked up a whip that looked similar, except this one had braided leather with knots tied along the length in various places, instead of straight lengths of leather.

“You will count.  Will not stop until you reach 1,095. For how long it took to make Wei Ying beg for his own torture.”  Lan Zhan said.  Then he began to strike Xue Yang’s already abused backside with the new whip.  This time Xue Yang was crying out with every strike, and rocking forward with the heavy blows.  Every once in a while, one of the leather strips must have hit his exposed balls, because he would let out a shriek, and his body would seize up.  By the 500th strike, Xue Yang was sobbing into the table.

Once they had reached 1,095, Lan Zhan went to join Nie Huaisang at the table, for some tea.  They watched Xue Yang sob on the table as they finished their cups, not really having anything they wanted to discuss.   Once Lan Zhan was finished, and Xue Yang had calmed down, he walked back over to the table, and drew out a talisman, stopping Xue Yang from losing consciousness.  He then went back over to the instrument wall.

This time he picked out a thin, bamboo cane, maybe a quarter inch in diameter.  He tested out the feeling in the air a few times, swooshing it back and forth.  Getting the snap of his wrist just right.  He then walked back over to Xue Yang.

“You will count.  Will not stop until you reach 1,825. For how long it took for Wei Ying to give up hope.” Lan Zhan said, again with no emotion.  He laid the cane across Xue Yang’s trapped and exposed balls.  He then drew back and snapped the cane against the exposed balls.

Xue Yang screamed.  Lan Zhan waited until he was sobbing into the table, then hit him again.  This time the scream was louder.

“A scream is not a number.”  Lan Zhan said calmly.

Xue Yang gasped and sobbed and tried to bring himself back under control.  “O-one.”  He cried into the table.

“Mn”  Lan Zhan continued.
