Calypte costae
Costa’s Hummingbird— my favorite species of hummer! I love the male’s bright purple crown and gorget, and the way the edges of it are flared when he’s doing his courtship display.
The flower I painted is an ocotillo, a desert plant that the hummingbird drinks nectar from, and thus pollinates.
