Splatoon 3 Story Developments

The blog’s muse page has been updated to reflect story developments! But here’s a quick rundown of the events and blog changes for Splatoon 3:

(Yes, there are spoilers.)

Major Plot Details

Ribbon became the new Agent 3! She developed her inkling form slightly early and moved to the Splatlands with her parents. This is also where she found Little Buddy, who she hasn’t given an official name out of respect. She’s been trying to find his parents.

In line with this development, Molly is now the Squidbeak Captain. Even though she’d like to go home, duty comes first, and the agents are basically her family. She’s sticking around in Alterna since there’s lot to clear up, even after the main story events. 

Marina—from this blog—is here to investigate the human structures in Alterna. She’s also the one that steps in to go through the ‘After Alterna’ segment, saving Ribbon the trouble.

Most of the main story played out the same, but the confrontation with Grizz was a little different. Things got rough for Ribbon climbing central Alterna, as it was late night when the launch sequence began. Thankfully, Molly, Marina, Deep Cut and—surprisingly, Octavio—stepped in and beat Grizz to a pulp, taking the behemoth bear prisoner. The rocket never went off, but with the chance to rest with Callie and Marie, Ribbon had a really cool dream about a bear/salmon kaiju fight…

Finn (Agent 4) and Slushie (Agent 8) are still in Inkopolis, and Finn has temporarily retired from agent work. They still keep in touch with the other agents via chatroom.

Pansy is also still in Inkopolis, but left her job at Kelp Dome to become a Private Investigator! Most of her current cases are about lost pets, however. She’s on-and-off looking into Grizzco on the side. Somebody should really tell her.

Brine successfully went on to pursue his law career, and is no longer a major character on the blog :( 

Minor Plot Details

Pansy and Groa got married! They’ve got an egg waiting to hatch.

Molly stopped playing salmon run a year ago after reflecting on the situation. Didn’t have anything to do with Grizz, that was just a surprise.

Mr Manta, the coffee shop owner, is officially Big Man’s uncle. Because I can.

Eelillian has turned completely yellow over the years between games.

Finn and Marie started dating I guess?

That’s just about everything you need to know for this blog. @octowussabi​ will also need a lot of updating, but for now, Splattales is taking interactions again!

3 tensed. Whoops! He had been seen! There was really no point in trying to conceal himself completely, but he remained half-hidden as he watched the human’s reaction to his unfortunate visage. If it were any other time, 3 would have likely chuckled at the guy nearly losing his phone; in one sense, this human wasn’t terribly different from any other Inkling! 

He had no clue what the guy meant about “basegame,” however. Raising an eyebrow, he wondered if this guy was some sort of gamer...

Shrinking back however, the human had unwittingly hit a soft spot of 3′s. The massive agent was now attempting to make himself look smaller, rubbing at his nose upon mention of cologne. 

“Whoa, h-hang on, I’m not going to eat you!” he cried, “And I can tell you put on cologne, I can smell it from here...”

Lulu was heading over to Tay’s to visit and check up on him. Having some time again, Lulu hopped through the portal into the foryer of the palace before walking down the hallway. Knocking on the door to the living room, Lulu called out, “Tay!”

I’m trying to finalise an Octoling design for the original Octavio -- you know, the actually old one. I gave it an attempt a while back, but ultimately focused on the clones more (you know, since he’s dead). Fearful Sabi for comparison! 

That may look like a reassuring pat, but ‘Dadtavi’ was very good at being, uh... Let’s go with the term ‘eight-faced’ haha.

🗣 Ribbon and Tay?

“Hey mister, I like your tail!” says a voice.

This wasn’t a compliment Tay liked to hear. Eventhough it was freeing to not have to hide it when visiting Inkopolis, he still preferredhis tail to go unnoticed. Perhaps it was a knee-jerk reaction, perhaps it wasits nature as a mutation, but whatever it was, it always made him uncomfortable.

He frowns, turning, prepared to make a comeback.Instead, his expression softens.

Oh. A child.

Was she an inkling? He wasn’t sure. She wasmaskless, and her tentacles had an unusual yellow contour.

“I have a tail too,” she continues, giving hima beaky smile. “Yours is way longer though, I bet you can pick things up withit.”

“I can,” Tay replies, still quite taken abackby this child’s sudden appearance, as well as her sheer boldness. “But don’t touch.”

“I wasn’tgonna. That’d be bad.”

She makes this promise, but a glint in her eyessuggests she’s using every shred of willpower to avoid grabbing and yanking it.The Octoling tucks his tail around his leg as a precautionary measure.

“What’s your name, little one? Where are yourparents?”

“I’m Ribbon!” the young hybrid beams, wilfullyignoring the second question. “I came to see Mr. Wussah’by. He lives in thishouse here. Did you come to see him too?”

The next pause marks the longest Tay has ever had tothink of a response. This child – this possibly Inkling child, parentless,has come wandering over to greet Sabi? Was this the norm? Surely Sabi wouldnever allow something so… unsafe.

“…Nnnnnot exactly. Does Sabi know you’re coming?I’m with him. We stopped here to pick something up,” he explains, his browsknitting in concern. He adds hastily, “I’m Tay.”

“Oh! You must be a Tay-vio,” Ribbon gasps. “Don’tworry. I know it’s a big secret. You can trust me, I’m an ace detective.”

“Is that so,” Tay can’t help but twitch asmile. This child was surprisingly perceptive. It must be true that she knew his brother,then, through and through. “But Miss Detective, you haven’t answered myquestion.”

“Whoops, sorry. Uhm, no, not really. I wasn’t asked to come. But Mr. Sah-beyis always at home, so I thought it would be fine.”

“Well, he’s not home today. He’ll be coming outin a moment, and then we’re going into town.” Tay crouches down andremoves his sunglasses, giving Ribbon a sincere look. “But first, I think weshould take you back to your family. Mr. Sabi’s not going to be happy knowingyou’ve run away, is he?”

Ribbon’s smile is replaced with a look of guilt.She hangs her head and tugs at the zip on her cardigan.

“Awwwww… I thought it would be okay if I wentto someone who looks after me anyway,” she mopes. “I just wanna look for clues.Adults are always too busy to help.”

Tay sighs.

“You can come with us and look for ‘clues’… butyou have to ask your parents first.”

“Yaaaayy!”

The Octoling stands, turning back to look atthe tiny house. He had just made an empty promise. Sure, she could come, if herparents weren’t going to ground her until the next century for runningoff.  

…and why was Sabi taking so long?!

@octowussabi As Taki arrived from the portal he took a good look around, he’d only really been here once before she needed to remember where he was going. You’d think that a huge lumbering octoling with a basket in his hands would attract attention from the guards but there seemed to be a big lack of them from what he could see which put him a bit on edge. Either the octarians here are as inkcompetent as the ones back home or perhaps this Octavio felt guards aren’t that important.

Eventually he came up to what he figured was the right door but he wasn’t entirely sure since he hadn’t really been here before. He gave the door a knock, though gentle enough that he wouldn’t shatter it with his brute strength.

“Lulu, I think we’re lost,” Tartar sighed. Looking around, Lulu had to agree. “Yeah...I think so.”

Finding out both girls knew Marina, the twins decided to stop by and try to find her to talk about some new human items that were found by the valley a few days ago. 

Unfortunately, neither knew this valley well. Lulu had only seen some with her travels with Tay and this was the first time Tartar was here. The girls were lost. Hands down. Completely.

“Okay, okay. Look, I think I saw some octarains back there so why don’t you wait here and I’ll go find them. Turn on your phone tracker so we don’t loose location of each other, okay?” Lulu stated.

“Well, okay...but please be careful,” Tartar sighed as she placed her hands in her pink hoodie’s pockets. Waving, Lulu headed off to find where they were and if they knew Marina.

As Tartar stood there, her lights blinking at a calm pace, she sighed before humming a tune.
