I think that the twins and Amity's ways of coping with having an oppressive mother and an absent father are perfectly portrayed and match very well with their personalities.

Emira and Edric are troublemakers, they love creating chaos and sometimes they can end up hurting other people (accidentally or not). This could be a response to gain attention from their father, who is never there for them, and from their mother, who seems to care and notice them only when they misbehave (to punish them, which still is a form of receiving attention). It's also interesting how the two behave differently as a consequence of their actions in relation to their relationship with their parents. Emira has developed an interest in healing magic, almost as if she was looking for an escape from something that hurt her, while Edric seems to be so reckless (by overdoing) that he always ends up hurting himself, with Emira always having to take care of him.

Amity is a perfectionist and an overachiever especially at school, who also thinks she's never good enough. She's always reaching for the top, even when she knows that she's not able to do it, because it's the only way to get her mother's attention and approval (idk about the father, I don't remember Alador caring at all if she was good or bad at school). Odalia's (and, in this case, also Alador's) controlling attitude made Amity think that she doesn't get to have a word on her own life, that she only has to follow the rules, especially their rules, and that she can't have a character and a thought of her own (that is reflected in her hair color, that it's dyed green until she stops doing everything her mom tells her), creating a self-conscious and anxious girl (example: she blushes for everything because of anxiety *just like me omg*) who doesn't have dreams of her own (thankfully, she's able to rebel and change throughout the series and so does Alador).

Boscha has Two Moms

So in “Them’s the breaks kids” we see these two potions girls together a lot. One on the left has three eyes and the same shape face as Boscha, while the one on the right the has the same shade of blue in her eyes and hair very similar to Boscha's.

Dana said in a tweet back in season 1 that Boshca had a mom who knew Odalia growing up, and had a rivalry with her. Which Mom do you think that was? Was kinda hoping since Odalia is also in the backgrounds with Alador and Darius, that we would get like a 2 second shot of her and one of the moms  having a stare down. But with shortened seasons I guess Dana figured Al and Rus’s rivalry was the more interesting one.

My guess is three eyes is Odalia’s rival because her expression has a bit more attitude to it, and glasses there hides in a locker later when she thinks she see’s trouble, so she might be kinda shy.

Which mom do you think bought Boshca a pixie (tiny monster in this world) to keep as pet though? That I think was glasses. Her expression gives off that she is curious and inquisitive, so having such a creature at the house to observe (and make her child happy) might be worth the wear and tear on the house and strain of its care.

Which one wanted to come with Boscha to the Conjuring? Did three eyes want to see and mess with Odalia again? Had Glasses never been to a conjuring when she was younger? I don’t think either are all that overprotective since they let Boshca compete in contact sports, but does her going to a place like Blight Manor for the night worry them?

Like Boshca is the school mean girl but, similar to Sasha Waybright, she does have some good points: she is very talented, shows leadership, has ambition, is strong willed and unafraid to rise to a challenge. Her main problem seems to be that she has trouble coming down from her competitive “zone” when she leaves the field. I wish we could have gotten some background for one of these characters in what their home life or family is like.

I just wanna talk about how important and impactful it was to see Amity fight back against her mom. She’s someone who she loved and trusted and obeyed silently out of fear. And now is growing up to realize that it’s abuse, not love. That her mom is using her for selfish gain and the illusion of a perfect family. And Amity defending her friends/girlfriend with so much love in her heart. Yet she was given that moment of empowerment to do something she’s always been terrified of doing. She now sees that all of her friends and even her dad are so willing to defend her. Bc I know how scary it is to fight back and stand up for yourself, how dangerous it feels.

It was honestly very reminiscent of this scene from Tangled.

Anyways thank you tangled and toh creators for writing stories about fighting back against an abusive family member, regardless of their intent, that shit is hard and terrifying to do. Please continue to write about young girls (but really any gender kid but tbh it’s a specific brand of abuse from mother to AFAB kid) defending themselves from mothers who abuse them under the guise of “knowing what’s best for them”
