Hey there friend! Big fan of your writing!! 😊 I saw a prompt for a monster dating app but I never was able to find it written, but I always loved the concept. If you're unable to flesh it out I might try a hand at it myself!
That would be @thetravelerwrites’ ‘okcryptid’ app idea! You should check out her page because I think there’s a masterlist of all the people who have created stories based on the idea!

Also this is a female plus size reader insert.
OkCryptid- Isthantari Edition and Monster March Day 5- Insect- Jika Intergalactic space aliens that are insectoids.
Lexi and Jaxx
“Come on Lexi, it’s gonna be fun,” Beth urged you as you stared at the app on your phone.
Trepidation wasn’t the only feeling swimming in your head. Fear and disappointment were heavy too and you worried that no being in any universe was going to want you. Because the thought of shouldering another rejection was almost more than you could bear. You- who had never had a steady boyfriend since oh, never.
But with more nagging from Beth, you begrudgingly downloaded the app OkCryptid and set up a dating profile on it and used the most flattering picture that Beth’s family photographer had taken of you this past year since her family had one big family set of pictures along with individual pictures so that the pictures on all of their many varieties of couture business cards would be current and "up to date".
And since you had come with Beth for that. Beth paid for the photographer and his crew to do the same for you along with glamor shots of yourself after her family’s pictures were done. And you had to admit, they were very well done and you did look like a plus sized model after. But considering Beth’s natural supermodel looks and physique it was rather impossible to feel pretty when a goddess like her was next to you and in your presence all the time.
But back to the current predicament. Beth helped you put your first message on there- to explain that what you were looking for- was a date for Saturday night at Deep Sound for Beth’s birthday party she was having with her friends that evening since she would spending brunch with her family and get her birthday presents from them then.
Deep Sound- was a bar and nightclub. Situated on top of a brand new skyscraper where all the other species in the universe met the residences of Earth and mingled and thanks to the city’s world and intergalactic market- Astris- that was right across the street. The nightclub could offer the best fare Earth had to offer as well as the best fare from all the other galaxies since it was situated between all the boroughs where different species liked to keep themselves to in the city.
Beth, which was short for Bethsabinerada, she was half high elf and half Cerulian. And tall and slim and lithe and practically perfect in any universe. And she had no shortages of drop dead gorgeous men who would give their right nut to be with her. But she was putting off any serious relationship for the sake of having fun in her young adulthood. Only something the rich, young and beautiful could really afford to do.
Her mother was a Cerulean aristocrat and ambassador to Earth which is how her parents met. And her father was a high elf and a ceo and on any number of councils. But Beth was the youngest of their children. Her brothers and sisters had already gotten married and began to have kids. So being the baby, she was especially spoiled. At least in the sense that her parents paid for the vast majority of her very lavish lifestyle. Including this fabulous apartment that was right in between a high elf borough and a Cerulian one since the two species had a lot of the same looks, aestetics and culture. But Ceruleans, being aliens, were also other worldly and ethereal in naturally spectacular good looks.
The apartment itself was quite large and was richly furnished. With enormous closets that were still stuffed to the brim with Beth’s extensive clothing collection, using one of the spare bedrooms as a whole wardrobe and vanity with her expensive makeup collection. Plus her parents paid for all of her credit cards and vehicles which she just got her new set of vehicles as an early birthday present just a few days prior.
You on the other hand, got her ‘hand me downs’. As in beauty products, makeup, vehicles, luggage, furniture and the like. Except for clothes. Which if you were a third or even a quarter of your size, maybe you had a hope of fitting into them. But her parents viewed you - as her live in, platonic body guard. Because you were protective, big and strong. But because you were female, you posed no threat of impregnating their daughter or eloping with her either. Because both of you were attracted to men and still best friends since childhood, and you were sensible and ‘motherly’ and made sure she didn’t get in too much trouble. Or at least any trouble that her parent’s couldn’t get her out of.
Cerulians were known for being rather ugly as kids and going through an ugly duckling phase as tweens and then once they became middle teens and older, suddenly they got prettier and prettier and prettier before peaking at 30. And Beth was 28, about to be 29. And because you had befriended her even when she was “ugly and awkward”. Since you had gone to school together as young children and once she befriended you, she made sure you were always at whatever school her parents put her into. You got to go to her school on a scholarship for sports since you were one of the few female sumo wrestlers at the time. And that’s where you met and befriended her, and you got to enjoy her lavish lifestyle with her as an adult because you had been close ever since.
You on the other hand, had orc in your blood from your father’s side. So while you looked mostly human. You were big, strong and muscular and bulky and far from dainty or petite, all your life. And you worked so hard to be as feminine as possible as a late teen and early adult. But it didn’t matter how much makeup you put on, or how you did your hair, or how often you got your nails done, or what pretty, flowery dresses you put on, or what uncomfortable heels you squeezed your fat feet into. It didn’t seem to make much of a difference when you were usually were twice as big and three times as strong as most guys. That usually deterred them because they felt emasculated by you.
Whatever. Their problem, not yours.
But because of Beth’s status in high society. You felt incredibly alienated in this plush, lavish lifestyle you enjoyed with Beth. Everyone always wanted to be Beth’s friend. And her pretty, rich and fabulous friends that she had made as an adult, simply put up with you. Because you were Beth’s friend and they benefited from the protection you offered from certain predatory types of men. That, and you could hold your own and your liquor really well. Often you carried Beth and the other lightweights out of certain places and into a ride to get you all home when the group would go out partying. You were the “responsible one” that everyone’s parents loved and admired and trusted implicitly, especially Beth’s.
Still, you didn’t understand how you live in a city so big with so much diversity yet still be all alone most of the time.
Beth though, both despite and because of all of this. She was incredibly sweet, kind, loving and very protective of you in her own way. She made sure you never really spent any money you earned. That you saved all you could because she knew that her lifestyle wasn’t going to last forever. When she would turn 30 in just a short year. She would be given- one year exactly- to either find Mr. Right or have him chosen for her by her parents and settle down and start a family immediately. However, all of Beth’s siblings, relied on their parents to find them mates from across the galaxy. Especially since they were already deep into business and or politics when they became of age or even sooner. Beth, however, wanted to be different. So she got a “light” job that she didn’t need to be that involved in. So she didn’t have to rely on her parents to find her a mate, so that she could choose for herself. Even as daunting as that was from her overwhelming plethora of options.
Meanwhile your parents didn’t seem to care one way or another. As long as you were happy, that’s all they cared about. Every time you went out, she “paid” for everything and took care of you. Because you had always taken care of her and she made sure you knew and felt- that you were her favorite person in the universe. And her one true, genuine friend who always had her back and so she always had yours. And she also managed to have her parents pay off all your debt, and school loans and other “incidental expenses”.  And her gifts to you were actually stocks in all of her family businesses so that your investment portfolio matched hers. And once she would eventually find Mr. Right and marry and settle down, it was you who was going to keep the apartment. And it's furnishings as her last gift to you.
It was clear to everyone, especially her family, that you were her favorite person to spoil. And she made sure that you were taken care of too and always invited to everything she was invited too. And if you weren’t, she didn’t feel the need to go and wasn’t shy about her displeasure at your own uninvited status. And made sure she mentioned it to her socialite friends and family. Once people got that message that they couldn’t have Beth without you. All the invitations started to have your name on them too, right under Beth’s name of course. Beth also used how her dates treated you to gauge whether or not they were worth her time. Because how her dates treated you indicated how they usually viewed and treated women they weren’t attracted to and if they even looked at you wrong, they got kicked to the curb and immediately blocked.
But it sucked all the same. You were quintessentially the “fat, ugly friend” not that you felt that you were ugly but others treated you that way and you hated it no matter how much you genuinely cared for, loved and adored Beth.
“Come on, everyone else has dates for the night, even if it’s just one night, dance, have fun, drink, live a little.” She encouraged you before you hit the button that officially introduced your profile onto the app- OkCryptid.
Within just a moment, you had a few matches and one message in your DM’s from a prospective candidate and your jaw dropped as did Beth’s.
“Oh no way! You got a doctor!” She cheered excitedly.
“Of what?” You asked as you clicked on his profile.
Dr. Jaxx Kizu, was a biochemical engineer on Jazine Prime. Which was the Jika ship that hovered over the city and he worked with Zie Pharmaceuticals, well damn. And he was messaging you!
“Damn girl, count me jealous.” Beth laughed.
Your hands got clammy and your cheeks grew flushed and your heart drummed in your chest. You were both excited yet...strangely dreadful at the prospect of another disappointment.
“Well answer him!” Beth encouraged you as you opened the message and read it again.
‘Greetings, my name is Dr. Jaxx Kizu, I understand from your message you’re looking for a companion to celebrate a friend’s birthday?’ He messaged you.
‘Yes’ you replied.
‘Well if you would like, I would enjoy the privilege of going with you to your friend’s birthday celebration. I can meet you there or I can pick you up at another location, perhaps a restuarant for dinner- since the time of the celebration is late at Deep Sound. Whichever you prefer.’ Jaxx messaged you back.
“He’s awfully formal.” You murmured to Beth who eagerly read the message from her spot next to you on the couch.
“He’s a Jika, they’re all a bit robotic. But they’re nice! And super helpful and respectful too. Well, when they’re not in an army trying to either conquer or take over a planet. But otherwise they are very proper and courteous, nothing wrong with that.” Beth reasoned.
“And tall! Have you seen them? Most of them are like 7 feet tall. And he’s actually cute. Look, if you look closely. He’s actually a little different in looks to a normal drone. Drones are all cookie cutter but look, he’s different! Even his colors are different, his black has a purple sheen too- instead of green so maybe he’s a different class of Jika. See? I told you- this was going to work out. You weren't on that app- five minutes and you have a date for Saturday and you have all week to talk to him and get to know him a little bit before then. Trust the process.” She urged you.
“Fine.” You conceded.
“Thank you!” She hugged and kissed your cheek.
“Now I gotta go, I’ll be late for work.” She saw herself out of your shared apartment.
‘Actually, do you mind if we meet up for coffee on Wednesday?’ You asked as you winced as you typed in the messsage.
‘I’d love to. Do you know where Booker and Loke’s is? I really like their coffee.’ He messaged back. You had heard of Booker and Loke’s. They were supposed to have really good coffee that was sustainably sourced that reinvested a good portion of the sales back into the farmers and the environment.
‘Sure, what time?’ You agreed.
‘Whatever time works best for you, I have all availability.’ He responded.
‘How about 9?’ You suggested. That would give you time to get home and changed from your scrubs you wore to work and you could get a tea because they were supposed to have awesome tea there so you could enjoy the date and then go home and get some sleep before work Wednesday night.
‘Splendid, looking forward to meeting you in person at 9am, on Wednesday, September 16th at Booker and Loke’s.’ He replied.
‘See you then.’ You blew out breath as your heart continued to pound in your chest. Well, if he took one look at you and decided against it, at least he wouldn’t embarrass you in front of everyone by standing you up on Beth’s birthday, again. Like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. And if he decided against it, at least you would have a chance to find a replacement with the other matches you had just gotten. But none of them were messaging you.
But this was your first date with a Jika. So you were going to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. But right now, you needed to get some sleep before tonight as you got a shower and blacked out your room and played your customized playlist of sleep music on and took a special gummy to help you sleep and you were out like a light only half an hour later.
“So? How are things with Jaxx?” Beth asked you when she got home from work just as you were about to go into work yourself for the night.
“We’re meeting for coffee on Wednesday.” You answered.
“Wow, that good- huh?” She smiled brightly.
“I guess we’ll see.” You shrugged as you grabbed your things and left to go to the hospital to work as a medical coder for the night. Beth was a receptionist at a high end spa- Via- during the day. Which meant that your apartment was filled with products from the spa and also why she always looked like a million bucks because she got free treatments at “work”. Lucky.
You on the other hand always came into work with two days worth of work load on your shared desk. That you shared with the girl who did your job during the day and she did so little. But you were sure she was fucking the boss and could get by with doing the bare minimum and leaving you with the lion’s share of the work.
But, it was gainful employment and the benefits were nothing to shake a stick at. Like really good health insurance, vision, dental, 401k, stock options, the whole 9 yards. And it paid pretty well and you were good at it. And it physically wasn’t very demanding. And you were a natural night owl anyway- and you liked how peaceful things were in the office while you worked. No patients, no doctors or nurses, just you and your work mates who loved to talk shit and gossip about the day shift and the doctors in the office. All while listening to good music and eat at your desks as long as you cleaned up after yourself. And usually the nights flew by because you were having fun. That and your work mates were awesome. Your very few ‘friends’ outside of Beth and her own friends. But they usually had their own families and lives outside of this and you rarely got a chance to socialize outside of work because of the hours.
You came into work and got settled in before you noticed someone had put out a bowl of candy and grabbed a handful.
“Nice, thanks for the sugar whoever brought it in.” You called out as you logged in.
“You’re welcome.” Sydney answered from across the desk as you could hear her fingers typing at a frantic pace.
“I swear it’s like they didn’t do jack shit today.” Alex growled from her computer as she furiously typed on her computer too.
“You’d think we’d grow used to it by now.” You murmured tiredly as you looked at your work load and just shook your head before you bluetooth-ed your music to the speakers.
“Ah, finally, good music.” Sydney sighed in relief.
“I have carbs!” Samantha crooned as she came in with a box of bagels and a stack of cream cheese containers.
“Yay!” You all cheered before you paused to get the day old bagels and doughnuts that Samantha brought in. She worked two jobs, the closing evening shift at a bakery and whatever didn’t sell she loaded up and brought into work as a medical coder.
“Dibs on a cherry cheese crown!” You insisted before you snatched one of the few that were there before the others were quickly taken up.
“So? Anything new? Any plans this weekend?” Sydney asked. And while normally, you’d keep your mouth shut, but you wanted input on this Jika situation.
“I have a date.” You revealed which caused the others to gasp excitedly.
“With who?!” They pressed eagerly.
“A Jika doctor. Beth twisted my arm to get OkCryptid so we could get dates for her birthday on Saturday and we got matched and he messaged me about it first.” You volunteered.
“Oh, well all the Jika are nice because of the hive mind and all. A bit stiff, formal and robotic because of it too. But nice. I’m sure you’ll have fun and if he’s a doctor, at least he’s smart.” Sydney offered. And yet your confidence wasn’t particularly bolstered.
You managed to get through the night and decided to swing by Booker and Loke’s to at least see what they had. nd if you would like anything they offered. It was a rooftop cafe on top of the intergalactic market, Astris. Where a lot of restaurants and in particular- chefs, got their produce along with locals and tourists alike. It also not only had international produce but intergalactic produce as well which was the major pull. Ok, yeah you could understand why he would want to meet you here. The place was pretty cool.
You got up to the roof and suddenly realized about a few dozen Jika all here. They were flying in from all over and then landing and getting in line. As you looked around you realized there were three different “kinds” of Jika here. They were all yellow and black but the black was different between them, there was red sheen, blue sheen and purple sheens and they were all chatting to each other in the native Jika language- which was a series of clicks and trills and it sounded...like chickens, the way chickens talked to each other. It was, actually, adorable.
And your little giggle of amusement seemed to alert all of them to your presence. They all stilled and turned to you which shut you up before you ducked your head, cleared your throat awkwardly and got in line and looked at the menu board. You noticed...you were the shortest and littlest person here. Compared to them, you felt so normal not to mention small and petite despite your own 6 foot frame. This was nice.
And up this close, you could see both subtle and striking differences between individuals. Instead of all them looking the same. You could even hear distinct voices between individuals and different tones of inflection as they seemed to carry on as usual after watching you get in line. Plus all these Jika were practically giant! They were easily 7 and a half feet tall and impressive builds with wide shoulders and massive and strong wings. The wings themselves even folded neatly onto their backs. The red ones had the most spikes but the purple ones had some spikes too while the blues had none.
Then it was your turn at the front of the line.
“Hello, can I get a medium chai with extra whip and a ham, bacon, egg and cheese croissant?” You ordered, figuring that was as good as a “late night snack” for you as any other. And when you talked, suddenly the Jika who had been in front of you, who was actually the only one like himself. His black had the purple sheen but it had a turquoise-ish tint to it. So he came out indigo violet with a hint of peacock teal in certain lights like a dual chrome eyeshadow or even one of those beautiful fancy beatles. He didn’t have spikes but he was gorgeous and he seemed to do a double take when the line went from front to back line- to side to side line- down the length of counter where they had a variety of breakfast options laid out and presented beautifully. He had gotten the fruit tart for breakfast along with his coffee.
“Miss Alexis Frost?” He asked curiously after he had been subtly eyeing you as you came down the line.
“Uh, yeah? Do I know you?” You asked as you eyed him cautiously as you looked down to see your hospital badge with your name on it still on your left shoulder which you quickly grabbed and put in your purse. You don’t remember ever meeting anyone or anything like him.
“Uh, kind of? We got matched on OkCryptid yesterday?” He supplied.
“Dr. Jaxx Kizu?” You blinked in surprise.
“You can just call me Jaxx.” He grinned, his mandibles moved out and down to reveal a rather human looking mouth underneath them as he smiled pleasantly at you.
“Oh, hi,” you greeted as he offered one of his hands to shake yours.
“Pleasure to meet you in person Miss Frost.” He greeted back as he shook your hand in one of his four. Because he had two sets of arms.
“If I can just call you Jaxx, you can call me Lexi.” You proposed amiably.
“Excellent.” He grinned.
“Do you have a moment to have breakfast with me?” He asked as he gestured to an open table.
“Yeah,” you agreed as he turned and paid not just for his own order but yours as well.
“I can get my own..” you tried to argue.
“No I insist.” He waived off before you got your food and got into the little table. Thanks to the higher bar stool style chairs, which were big, heavy and very robust. You had to climb up into them and were grateful they actually fit you and you didn’t feel like you were sitting on a skinny little ledge. But because of how Jaxx’s body was laid out, most of his height was in his legs so for him, the high chairs were just normal chairs. And this way, you were more or less eye level with him. Well, he was still just a head above you. Which was nice for you instead of you looking down at your companion, you were looking up for once.
“So if I may be so bold to ask, why did you want to meet me on Wednesday before Beth’s birthday party?” He asked curiously.
“Uh, well, that was mostly because for the last few years, I’ve gotten stood up and usually guys just see me from about six feet away and walk away and I would rather you meet me for coffee and take one look at me and decide against it - then doing it for the party and that way I have time to find a replacement.” You confessed.
“Ah, I see. Well let me assure you, that I will not be one of them. You’re perfectly lovely and I have no intentions of letting the past repeat itself in that respect.” He reassured you and you blushed and smiled.
“Thank you.” You thanked him.
“So are you needing to go into work? I have a few questions I would like to ask you but I don’t want to make you tardy for anything.” He proposed.
“Oh, no, I just got off of work actually, I work nights at Riedson Hospital.” You gestured in the direction of the hospital.
“Oh, well am I keeping you from resting?” He asked worriedly.
“No, I won’t go to bed for a little while yet, we got time.” You reassured him.
“Or am I keeping you from anything though?” You asked thoughtfully.
“Oh no, I won’t be needed for a few more hours. So I also have time to stay and talk.” He returned graciously.
“So, were you just looking for a date for your friend’s birthday or were you open to anything more?” He asked thoughtfully, if not just a bit hopefully.
“Um, well I guess that depended on how good the date went I guess.” You shrugged.
“Oh, well, would you be comfortable enough telling me how you would determine that outcome?” He asked hopefully.
“Uh, well if you actually liked me and were attracted to me and didn’t immediately want to dump me in favor of Beth. That would be ideal.” You professed.
“Is Beth short for Bethsabinehada Loremanore Del Monico-Francias?” He asked.
“Yes.” You nodded.
“She was also on the app. She appears Cerulian and terran,” he noted, his voice serious if not just a little hesitant.
“She is, the terran is elven. High elven." You supplied.
“Ah, does she eat enough? She looks severely underfed and malnourished and so...sickly.” He noted and you couldn’t help it but you erupted into a deep belly laugh.
“Beth? She looks sickly?” You repeated in surprise at the proposterous notion.
“Oh yes, very much so. She looks like a stiff breeze might topple her and she’d shatter into a thousand pieces. Is that why your dates have abandoned you in favor of her? Do they have a hero complex of saving the dying?” He asked in all seriousness as you looked at him like he was crazy. He must really not know Earth’s inhabitants or other species that well.
“Uh, no, she’s quite healthy, way healthier than I probably am.” You muttered before you took a bite of your breakfast sandwich.
“No, you’re perfectly healthy. I have several ranges of vision. Not to be invasive, but I can see that your heart rate and blood pressure are well within normal and accepted limits and your body is really well balanced, strong and nourished.” He reassured you.
“How can you tell?” You asked.
“I can see it, I can see your blood pressure in the vessels in your eyes. And the pigments in your skin and your cellular processes with it. You’re practically glowing with health and very beautiful. So to hear your claim about her is quite surprising, if not a little disturbing. It should be the other way around. Anyone in thier right mind would and should be withdrawing their interest in her and redirecting at you. You’re the healthy and genetically opulant one.” He praised as you gave him a disbelieving look. Granted you were no doctor and not intimately familiar with Beth's personal health.
“Well their eyesight isn’t as good as yours then. Because they can’t see that closely to see cellular and genetic levels. They just see her from perhaps my ocular prospective.” You gently argued.
“But even within the range of your own eyes. Surely you can see how she has very little body fat and her ratio of fat, muscle and bone is out of proportion and her complexion is much too melanin deficient.” Jaxx contested in the most matter of fact tone.
“Well, maybe you’re not familiar with the cultural importances of those characteristics in Earth’s society. Low body fat but small lean muscle and fair skin are seen as a high beauty standard for women here on Earth.” You informed him.
“I have noticed such trends. But I thought the educated populace would see how dangerous and unviable that is. Because one does need to consume certain quantities of fats, sugars, carbohydrates and protiens, vitamins and minerals does it not? Because to not consume the proper quantities leaves the body in a deficit.” Jaxx insisted.
“Well, actually for some people, thier metabolysms are just naturally good and they get really good genetics to be naturally thin. That’s what Beth is, everyone in her family is just like her physically and they’re all doing just fine and married and having kids.” You explained.
“I think this is something we will have to agree to disagree.” Jaxx offered.
“Probably, so, enough about Beth, I didn’t sit down to breakfast with you to talk about her, I sat down to talk to you about you and get to know you.” You amicably offered.
“Agreed. So, like my profile said, my name is Jaxx Kizu, I hold doctorates in...” Jaxx began.
After that the conversation flowed really well. And despite coming from different worlds, you got along and really clicked outside of the disagreement about the state of Beth’s health, but everything else you seemed to agree on. And he was funny and charming and enthusiastic about his career. And about Earth, about the medicinal benefits of mushrooms in particular because one of his doctorates was in mycology as he was very facinated with all of it.
By the time your body reminded you that it needed sleep, he made sure that you would get home safe. And he cemented the plans to meet again on Wednesday. And again on Friday to make sure you would have the perfect outfit for Beth’s birthday. And then of course again on Saturday and exchanged phone numbers so you could text each other so you didn’t have to keep using the app to get and stay in touch.
And while he was formal. He was also incredibly intelligent but it was balanced with his genuine concern and thoughtfulness and attentiveness which was amazing. Usually you were used to Beth getting all of that, but all of it was on you. And he made you feel like you were the most sublime being in the universe.
Ok, OkCryptid was definitely worth it. Because it really did have someone for everyone.
You got home and Beth was awake and drinking her morning tea with her morning small bowl of very carefully measured fruit, yogurt and granola.
“Everything ok? You’re home late.” Beth noted the time.
“Everything’s great.” You answered cheerfully.
“Oooh, you sound happy, did you get a raise or a bonus or something?” She asked hopefully.
“Nope, work was shitty because Angie didn’t do shit on the day shift. Other than probably sucking all of Dr. Parkers’ cock.” You answered which made Beth almost snort her tea laughing.
“But you are all smiles and practically glowing with happiness, come on, out with it.” Beth insisted.
“So, I met Dr. Jaxx Kizu.” You grinned which got Beth to gasp.
“And?!” She demanded.
“And he’s awesome! We have three dates set up this week.” You revealed with your giddiest smile as she squealed in delight.
“How did you meet? Was he at the hospital?” She pressed.
“Nope, I asked him to meet me for coffee on Wednesday after work. He suggested Booker and Lokes, which on the roof of Astris. So I curiously went there after work today. And come to find out, not only do they have amazing coffee and a really nice selection of breakfast foods. Booker and Lokes is also is a Jika hot spot. And because it’s on top of the market and practically open air, they all fly in and then get in line, get a snack and a cup of coffee and then fly away to their jobs. There must be at least four classes of Jika because I didn’t see any Jika with the green sheen to their black there. But I did see- red, blue and purple sheens to the black on the other individuals there. And Jaxx is kind of a mix between the blue and the purple but there was almost a turquoise to his purple which is stunning. And he’s super handsome and fine as hell and a foot taller than me and at least two feet wider than me and he’s bigger than me in just about every way. Well except his waist was smaller than mine, but no biggy.” You eagerly plopped across from her at the table and excitedly gestured about how big he was compared to you.
“And he was really formal but super nice and not at all creepy. And I didn’t see a single red flag, or get any bad vibes from him at all. Which, at first I thought was weird cause I’m used to every guy I meet- instantly throw at least one red flag and raise at least one alarm bell. But not him. He was genuinely nice and actually genuinely interested in me. And because he’s a doctor he was really technical when he talked, but I was able to keep up pretty well. He studies Earth’s mushrooms and is looking for medical applications for them both for Earth’s indiginous populations and the intergalactic populations. Anyway, he was really nice and sweet and thoughtful and attentive and practically perfect and he said I was ‘glowing with health’ and he said I was ‘genetically opulant’? Whatever that means. I mean he is a very smart, geeky nerd, and strong and handsome to boot which is really nice. I didn’t think I’d be into Jikas but boy oh boy am I into him. I dig him. I dig him a lot. He may be a nerd, but he’s a super nice and sweet one too, perfect gentleman otherwise.” You boasted.
“Well that’s because you are really healthy Lexi! And because you’re a hybrid, of course he’d see your mix of genetics as the wonder that they are because you got the best of both worlds, both literally and figuratively and I’m so happy that you found someone who could see that as well as I can.” Beth nodded in agreement. “Just because you don’t have the same body shape as mine doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy at all.” Beth reassured you.
“Well that’s the thing. He looked at your profile on the app and thinks that you’re very sickly, underfed and malnourished and that the reason every guy dumps me in favor of you is ‘they all have a hero complex trying to save the dying’? Or some kind of ridiculous nonsense. We almost had a fight about it actually. But we let it be the one and only thing we agreed to disagree on was the state of your health. But otherwise we agreed on everything else.” You revealed as Beth frowned at you but her blush reached all the way to the tips of her delicate pointed ears as she bit her lips anxiously as she tried to school her features.
“Which I don’t know, maybe he only knows Cerulians and isn’t that familiar with terrans, elves especially.” You tried to waive off, not catching Beth’s reaction at all as Beth just huffed a humming laugh and did her best to appear normal and composed, despite her unsettled nerves.
“Probably. But I’m really happy for you and I hope it works out.” Beth offered as she got ready to go to work herself.
“Me too, have a good day at work. Upgrade, upsell and all that jazz and make a mint in commission.” You offered her as you hugged her and kissed her cheeks.
“Aww, thanks, sweet dreams Lexi.” She offered in turn before you went to bed.
Meanwhile the moment you disappeared into your bedroom Beth’s face dropped to one of worry anxiety and dread before she gathered her things and instantly called her mother.
“Hey Sweetie,” her mother, Faehaethy who simply went by Fae, chipperly answered her daughter’s call.
“Hey, I need a favor. So Lexi has a boyfriend…” Beth began.
“Oh good! Finally, I thought I would have to try to hire someone to go out with her for your birthday again and actually pay them double to not back out the moment they saw her.” She admitted.
“No, there’s no need for that. But um. Mom? He’s a Jika.” Beth informed her mother nervously.
“Really? That’s surprising.” Fae answered noted as she looked over to her husband as they were having breakfast date in a very fancy restaurant downtown. Her father, Tasar could use his exceptional hearing to hear his wife’s conversation as he knitted his eyebrows together and frowned at her.
“Is that a problem?” Her father Tasar asked as Fae put an earpiece into her ear and the other earpiece to her bluetooth headphones in her husband’s ear to hear the conversation privately.
“Well, so far, he’s pretty perfect for her. But um…” Beth stuttered as she got into the elevator and pressed the button to take her to the garage as she decided which vehicle she was going to take to work today as she looked at the variety of keys on her key chain.
“But what Dearest?” Her mother pressed.
“He took one look at my profile picture on OkCryptid and he…he instantly knew.” Beth confessed.
“Knew what?” Fae asked.
“That I’m sick.” Beth admitted shamefully.
“How could he possibly…?” Fae began.
“Because he’s a doctor Mom! A medical doctor! And he’s a royal class Jika too! Unmated to the Queen. He works on Jazine Prime and you have heard how royal class Jika males are exceptionally perceptive. Apparently he just took one look at me from just a picture and he knew I was ill. And he took one look at Lexi and knew she was perfectly fine and way healthier than me. And he told Lexi that the reason every guy who sees me- leaves any interest in her to try to ‘play hero and save the dying’ which is what Lexi told me he said. If word got out that I…” Beth admitted as she did her best to not cry and ruin her makeup.
“So how do you wish for us to intervene? Does he need to be silenced?” Tasar asked his daughter quietly.
“No. I just want to reach out to him. See how he knows I’m sick and if he can figure out how to heal me and make me better and even make all my siblings better too. Then that would be great. But, if he can’t, we have to give him something to keep him quiet so that he won’t tell Lexi or anyone else.” Beth admitted as she hurriedly walked to her SUV and got in.
“We’ll take care of it.” Her parents reassured her.
“Thanks.” Beth breathed out a breath of relief.

First Date: Pratha the Naga
This is a Patron Perk for February 2020, and Siarlas requested an AFAB reader with a male naga or orc, so they got Pratha. All of my patrons are eligible for this, and Tiers start at just $1. Obviously Patrons got to see this early.
Tumblr media
You met Pratha about a month ago on OKCryptid--a dating app for folks who are open to dating non-humans--and you’re about to meet him for your first date. To say you’re nervous is an understatement; you feel your stomach twisting itself in knots of excitement and worry. You really like him. He makes you laugh, and the pictures you’ve seen make him look handsome, and you just want this to go well.
There’s a haunted house that you’d suggested half-jokingly, but he’d run with the idea. The weird mansion had once belonged to a strange widow who kept building it during her entire lifetime, and the architecture is fascinating. The tours are led by actual ghosts, some of whom actually did haunt the woman, others who helped build the place, and a few more who just come in for dramatic effect.
You see him approaching and you think you forget to breathe for a few seconds. He’s beautiful; his snake half is a deeply iridescent purple. His skin is a rich brown, which seems to almost have the same kind of iridescence as his scales. His face is somewhat angular, with a strong jaw His hair is black, cut in a sort of punk undercut, with purple and blue highlights that match his scales. You want to run your fingers through it and see if it’s as soft as it looks.
“Hey! Pratha, over here!” You say, catching his attention.
He turns to look at you, and his smile dazzles. He slithers your way, that smile never leaving his face.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you. Your pictures didn’t do you justice,” he says. His voice is as attractive as the rest of him, and you feel yourself blushing.
Spirits but how are you going to make it through this date without combusting. What was a naga this handsome doing on a dating app? You feel incredibly lucky he picked you, and internally you’re flailing.
“I got our tickets already, our tour starts in just a few minutes.” You tell him. “Shall we head in?”
“Absolutely. Lead the way,” He says.
As you stand in line waiting, he tells you a bit about himself. He’s a software engineer, working for one of the big tech firms. He has four sisters (one older, three younger) who meddle constantly in his life (but he loves them anyway). His only pet is a goldfish, but he has a few houseplants. He asks about you in turn, and you share details of your own life. He shows genuine interest, asking serious questions about the things you share with him.
And then it’s your turn to start the tour, and a tall ghost in a long gown is telling you about the history of this mansion, and the woman who lived here. A short time later, having been led along a twisting-turning path through the old Victorian mansion, teased by ghosts and startled a time or two, you’re released back into the open air and sunshine of the beautiful afternoon. At some point you and Pratha have begun holding hands. You like the way it feels.
“There’s a cafe around the corner where we could get some coffee, if you’re interested?” You say, not quite ready for this date to end.
“You’re not sick of me yet?” He asks, almost nervous. “I thought for sure you would be after I jumped away from that ghost and nearly knocked you over.”
“No, that was cute,” you inform him. It had been; Pratha had shrieked in surprise and tried to put himself between you and the danger.
“Then I’d love to get coffee,” He says, blushing.
Hours later, when you part ways with promises to meet again soon, you’re still not sure how you’d matched with him on the app, but you’re definitely glad you did.

First Date Friday
You met them on the OKCryptid app, and agreed to meet at the local Farmer’s Market. You’d read online that it was a great spot for first dates because it offered so many things to talk about (flowers, fruit, and vegetables) and often had a variety of great local food options (you knew this one did.) Your favorite part though, was the built in excuse to get away if the date wasn’t going well; your fresh ingredients would need to get put away quickly.
So you sipped your hot tea from one of the local farmstands (sweetened with local honey!) and watched the crowd, hoping you’d spot your date before they spotted you.
And then you saw them, and it was like a punch to the gut.

The Broken Pieces
Tumblr media
Pairing: Male Human x Ace Male Incubus Warning:SFW (Angst, Depression, Mention of Death and Past Abuse) Word Count: 4328 Note: OkCryptid Collab Prompt from @thetravelerwrites. Here’s my humble contribution. I had an idea in my ‘idea book’ for a while and was happy to knock this out as a combo piece. I really wanted to create something like this and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I hope y’all enjoy! Ao3 Version | My Website Version
“Alright, bud. Your profile is all set up.”
Mason poked his head out from the kitchen to give Jeremy, longtime friend and class of 2011 survivor, a quizzical frown, “What profile?”
Jeremy shook his head at Mason “I’ll give you three guesses. It’s been two years since you broke up with Maria. What kind of profile do you think it is?”
Mason went back to putting popcorn in the microwave, frowning slightly at the rotating bag of kernels. While it popped, he leaned against the doorway and watched Jeremy. The man with his furrowed brow was finger deep in some dating app as he swiped his finger across the screen. Mason knew his friend meant well, but he wasn’t sure he was ready for this kind of thing.
“I’m not sure the dating scene is my thing. It’s been the same song and dance. I meet some gal or guy and I end up dating them and then they hurt me and leave a pile of ash behind—I’m just not interested.”
“I totally respect that you don’t want to date, but you should at least get out there. Maybe meet new people.”
Mason sighed, “Is this because you’re leaving next month and you’re worried about me?”
Glancing up from the phone Jeremy met Mason’s gaze, “Can you blame me? You don’t really have anyone else, Mason. Maria kind of made sure of that.”
Mason was the first to break eye contact as pain flared up in his chest. Maria. Everything about her still caused bitterness and regret to burn in his veins and bile to well up in his throat. What had been so fun in the beginning had become toxic and abusive. A dull throb started in his head as he began thinking about it.
“That she did.”
There was a silence between the two friends. An understanding of the damage combined with a quiet desperation to fix it.
“I’m not going to pressure you, Mason—but I can’t help but worry that you’re going to disappear into yourself.”
Mason was worried too. He was worried that he was never going to be able to connect with a person ever again and that Jeremy really was his last and only friend. It was enough to make Mason outstretch his hand for his phone.
“Alright, explain this thing to me.”
A hopeful grin spread across Jeremy’s face as he shot up from the couch and practically danced into the kitchen beside Mason. Glancing away from the popcorn, Mason raised an eyebrow as he looked down at the dating app.
“OkCryptid? Seriously, dude?”
“What? You never thought about going on a date with a different creature? Are you speciesist?” Jeremy teased, playfully cocking his hand onto his hip.
“That’s not it, I guess I just never really thought about dating someone that wasn’t a human.”
“Well, time to get your feet wet my friend, maybe literally.”
Mason inwardly winced at his friends over-exuberance as he began showing Mason how to use the app. It seemed easy enough to navigate, but Mason didn’t want to look at it any longer once the microwave alerted him that the popcorn was ready. The monster dating app was definitely a far second to horrible movie night and snacks.
After the movie, Jeremy went home and Mason began flipping through profiles on the app and cringed repeatedly. Mason himself wouldn’t be bragging about his profile. Jeremy had chosen a picture he had snapped while Mason was driving. But the worst part about it was what Jeremy had written on his behalf. While the self-summary was spot on, Mason was a florist that liked to garden in his spare time, or play video games and movie nights, it was how Jeremy had made him sound like a quirky weirdo.
I love plants so much that I can tell you what each individual flower means and how to arrange them in a perfect bouquet for when I meet your parents.
“Jeremy, you asshole,” Mason muttered as he edited his description, removing that line completely.
He tweaked it seven times and reread it only to find he’d gone from random freak to completely uninteresting. If he were trying to find someone to date and they had this profile description it would be a pass for Mason. With that thought, Mason got ready for bed, fighting the feeling of oncoming depression and the stinging sensation of tears. As his head hit the pillow he hoped sleep would give him a moment of peace.
For three weeks, the app stayed on Mason’s phone, forgotten until a notification beeped while Mason was at work. He almost ignored it as he began trimming up some calla lilies for a wedding bouquet that needed to be finished by the end of the week.
“You got pinged, Mason.” Came a small voice from a pot of soil on Mason’s workbench.
Mason glanced at the alraune, Delpha. She was a small floral creature, that could easily be mistaken for a sunflower with a small face. She had come into his store, nearly getting stepped on in the process, to ask for a job. It had been a couple of years since then, but Mason had accommodated her in many ways so that she could walk from table to table, helping the plants grow and stay healthy with her magic.
Now she was helping him grow a new kind of flower hybrid that would be special to only his store. She was carefully placing seeds into the soil with her as sparkling green magic spread from her leafy hands, “I guess there’s no harm in checking it.”
Swiping the phone on, Mason stared down at the app’s notification with surprise. Someone had messaged him. Not just any someone, an incubus someone.
“What is it, Mason?”
A sudden onset of dry mouth caused Mason to struggle as he opened the app to look at the message and the incubus in question, “It’s a message from someone on the dating app my friend installed.”
“Oh? Which app? I’m partial to Monstr myself. I once went on a date with a mandrake root and you would not believe the night we had together.”  Delpha jumped out of the pot, scattering dirt across the table as she moved to look at Mason’s phone. “Ohh! OkCryptid! Mason, I didn’t know you swung our way, towards us otherworldly creatures.”
“I-uh, I’ve always thought about it but then I met Maria and—”
Mason cut himself off, he didn’t want to discuss personal stuff with Delpha. Not about Maria at least. This incubus, however, was a different story.
His name was Vylixar but went by Vyl. He looked like a Vyl, Mason decided looking at the imposing creature. Mason had met several incubi and succubi over the years and their appearances weren’t exactly what most humans would consider the epitome of beauty. They often had scale-like skin with little horns protruding from their shoulders and elbows, but they came in a variety of colors. Vyl was a deep mauve with large spikes. His horns on his head looked sharp and pointed, curling from his head down to his pointed ears. In his profile picture was him revealing sharp fangs with what Mason assumed was a friendly smile on his short snout.
Mason turned the phone so Delpha could see, “What do you think?”
“Oh, he looks big and strong, although you might want to be careful, incubi often like to feast on energy.”
“I’ve heard of it, but never really educated myself on it.”  Mason pulled his phone back to look at what Vyl had messaged. “Is it sexual energy? I don’t really have any of that right now.”
“It can be. I’ve heard that it feels good for humans when they feast on you. It can get addictive.”
It had been a while since Mason had felt good in any respects. Every day felt like he was just struggling to hold on to what little he had left. Maybe this is a risk he should take.
Quickly glancing over the text, Mason wrote back his response, double and triple checking his words trying to not sound like an idiot. He hesitated to hit the send button but finally pressed send after rereading his message one more time. After he did so he put his phone down, anxiously waiting to hear back as he went back to preparing the wedding bouquet.
Another notification made Mason’s phone beep as he was about to wrap and pin the ribbon onto the bouquet.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?”
Mason could feel his palms start to sweat, but his reply was instant ‘Yes’. ‘Vyl is typing’ quickly turned into another message back asking if tonight would work for him. Mason was astonished at how much Vyl wanted to meet him. Despite himself, Mason was getting excited, the sooner he met Vyl, the better.
He messaged back that he was available and no sooner had he sent the message did Vyl respond with a date and time. Confusion at the location made Mason raise his eyebrow. It was a bakery just down the street from where Mason worked, he had even been there to help with a cake order that required several rose heads that a bride had specifically wanted. Had Mason already met Vyl before? He didn’t recognize him at all.
After work was finished, Mason headed home to clean himself up a bit and put on a button up shirt that he always liked. Maria hated it. It was blue plaid that made Mason look like a lanky roadie is what she had said, usually wrinkling her nose in disgust. She would then suggest a plain and professional button-up shirt.
“Fuck her,” Mason growled, buttoning the shirt up a little more fiercely. “I look good.”
Mason had finished inspecting himself before he was out the door and arrived at the bakery. Vyl had said 7:30 but as Mason stood outside the bakery he frowned up at the closed sign. The bakery had already closed and had been for nearly an hour. Mason was ready to believe that he got tricked when he saw a hulking incubus with large clawed feet walk towards the door.
He unlocked it and smiled, his yellow glowing eyes looked Mason up and down as he opened the door, “Mason?”
“Uh—yeah. That’s me.”
“Hi, please come in.” Vyl moved to the side, keeping the door wide as Mason shuffled into the bakery. “Sorry, I was running a little bit late with the cleanup in the bakery and preparing dinner. I hope you don’t mind.”
Mason glanced back to see Vyl locking up before he walked past him into the back, “Come on back, I’m just starting to finish up cooking.”
Uncertain and a little concerned, Mason gave pause at the situation. Vyl owned the bakery? And was cooking dinner for Mason?
“Uh, Vyl?” Mason asked wandering into the back to see an expansive setup. Several tables were placed throughout the expansive space, where little fairies were sprinkling sugar on cookies while others were turning cakes as they were being decorated with colorful icing and decadent chocolate.
“Don’t mind the sugar plum fairies, they do a lot of the work at night. We won’t be eating down here though, my little flat is just above the shop.”
Mason continued to follow behind, taking one last peek at the fairies and the massive kitchen. It had several silver machines that Mason assumed were for mixing and preparing the pastries and cakes. He also had never seen sugar plum fairies before and was fascinated at how they seemed to really enjoy rolling out fondant together.
Up a set of spiral stairs, Mason finally followed Vyl up to a different floor that had a large red door propped open. The enticing scent of food made Mason’s stomach growl loudly enough that Vyl glanced back and chuckle.
“Feeling hungry?”
“I am, actually.”
“Good, I’m glad you brought your appetite. I should have asked beforehand, but are you allergic to anything?”
“Uh, no. I’ll pretty much eat everything. My friend says my stomach is made out of lead.”
Vyl smirked, “Well, my cooking isn’t atrocious, so hopefully you won’t have to put that theory to the test.”
Vyl opened the door again, ushering Mason forward into the flat. It was spacious and well decorated much to Mason’s surprise. He didn’t know what to expect but he certainly didn’t think Vyl’s place would be so homey. Vinyl records decorated the walls, mixed in was some jazz posters in thick black frames. A flat-screen was bolted into the wall above a small white painted fireplace and sitting across from it was a couch with two other chairs surrounding a glass coffee table.
“Can I get you a glass of wine or maybe a beer?”
“I won’t say no to a beer.” Mason nodded as he took off his shoes before he followed Vyl into the kitchen.
The kitchen was similar to the one in the bakery, stainless steel appliances that were polished and cleaned to a pristine shine like no one had been using them. He watched as Vyl opened the fridge and pulled out a beer and popped the cap off easily before handing it to Mason. With his nerves starting to make him want to bail, Mason gratefully took the beer and took a sip, surprised at how smooth the dark liquor went down.
“Wow, what is this?”
“Ah, that is a St. Bernardus Abt 12. It’s good right?”
“It really is, I don’t think I’ve tasted anything like this before.”
“Well, don’t drink that one down too fast, it’s got a high alcohol content and on an empty stomach that beer will go straight to your head.”
Vyl smiled at his comment as he washed his hands. His hands quickly found their way to a blade as he began to chop some vegetables and throwing them into a large bowl with some leafy greens.
“Can I help with anything?”
“No thank you, I should be fine. But if you don’t mind, I could use the company.”
Mason nodded, “Sure thing.”
Silence had filled the air with only Vyl’s chopping to compensate for it before Mason took one more swig of beer before trying to talk, “So, do you own the bakery? I’ve actually worked with you guys before for that rose cake for a wedding about a year ago.”
“Oh! Are you the gentleman from the flower store down the street?”
“Yes, actually.”
“Well, fancy that. I had no idea. I’m usually in the back downstairs making the cakes.” Vyl stopped as the smile that had appeared, faded quickly. “My late partner used to deal with the customers so you probably saw him.”
Mason’s eyes went wide as he watched the large incubus pause as he threw the remaining vegetables into the bowl before turning to wash the cutting board in the sink.
“Your late partner.” Mason murmured as he tried to remember the person he met. A picture of a young man with long hair tied into a long braid came to mind. He had glasses and a soft kind smile as he had greeted Mason and discussed business with. Lucas. That was his name. “Lucas.”
“Yes. Lucas. My wonderful partner.”
“When did he pass?” Mason asked, carefully watching Vyl as he walked to the oven to check on a large roast.
“It was a year ago—on this day actually. A heart attack of all things. The man was fit as a fiddle, yet his heart had a blockage.” Vyl stared intently at the roast, sticking it with a thermometer, “I hope you don’t mind—it’s just that I really needed someone tonight. I needed to feel like this place was a home again with a cooked meal and with someone to share it with.”
Vyl paused, “I’m sorry if you’re disappointed or you were hoping for something more than just a meal.”
“No. No. Vyl, don’t apologize.” Mason’s brow furrowed, his heart ached for the incubus in front of him. He understood the pain and he understood the need for companionship even if it meant this wasn’t actually a date. Whatever preconceived ideas Mason had about Vyl feeding on him just so he could feel good was gone. “I get it. I really do.”
“You do?”
Those glowing eyes turned to Mason with shock and lingering sadness as tears had been forming in the corner of his eyes.
“I do. Honestly, I’m not ready to date anyways. I got out of a bad relationship two years ago and I haven’t really been the same since. My friend Jeremy put the app on my phone because he’s worried that I don’t have any friends and he’s concerned that I’ll be lonely since he’s leaving in a week.”
Vyl let out a small breath of relief, “Lucas would have done the same which is the only reason I installed the app myself. I can hear him in the back of my mind, pushing me to move on, but it’s hard. Even harder is to find someone who would want to date me anyway.”
“Why do you think that?”
“I’m-uh, not like other incubi. I don’t really do the sex thing. Ever. I just don’t have an interest in it, I’d much rather have a companion who doesn’t mind snuggling on the couch to watch some movies or maybe will go on walks with me while we indulge in ice cream. I still need to feed occasionally, but it’s very rare for me since I’ve gone what most of my kind consider ‘vegan’. I eat human food for sustenance.”
Vyl stood up, closing the oven door, reaching for his own glass of wine as he took a sip.
“That—honestly sounds what I want right now.” Mason shuffled from side to side, inwardly admiring Vyl’s bravery for being honest with him, all while feeling a little guilty that he had come here without thinking that perhaps Vyl was a person and not an object to magically make Mason happy. He didn’t want sex, but he wanted to feel good. He wanted to feel happy again. “I don’t have much interest in anyone sexually either. Not after my ex. Honestly, I just feel—”
Mason stopped himself. There he was, bringing up that woman again.
“Did you want to talk about it? I mean, I’m a stranger or a potential friend, should we enjoy each other’s company—but sometimes talking to a stranger about your problems is easier than talking to your friends. I’m less involved in what happened.”
Taking a deep swig from the bottle, Mason struggled until it spilled out, “I’ve always been a bit more reclusive than most people, so I figured dating someone who was the opposite of me would help me to come out of my shell a bit more. Maria was my opposite. In every way. She wasn’t very good for me and really enjoyed hurting me by putting me down. Near the end of our relationship, I questioned whether it was just in my head or maybe I was emotionally fragile and just sensitive. Maybe I was just not good enough for her. But what broke everything was when I found out that she had been cheating—as if the verbal abuse wasn’t enough. I really wasn’t enough for her. She even blamed me when I confronted her about it. It was—bad. ”
Another profound silence settled between them as Mason did his best to keep his eyes on the floor. He was struggling to reign it all in.
“Oh—Mason.” Vyl said softly. “Can I give you a hug?”
Mason nodded immediately as he felt the welling of emotions inside of him. She had cut him up into tiny pieces and he just didn’t know how to put himself back together again. For a moment as Vyl wrapped his arms around Mason, he felt as if he might just be able to do it. He might become whole again, one day.
Unexpected tears and sniffles began to plague Vyl as he held Mason tightly. It only made Mason respond in kind, burying his face into Vyl’s chest to hide his own tears. They both stood in that kitchen, clinging for their own reason to continue on as the fresh home cooked meal reminded them of care and warmth. Tonight it was enough to share a meal together. It was enough to share each others company.
They pulled apart, both quickly wiping their own tears away before Vyl laughed, “Look at us. What a horrible meeting this is.”
Mason sniffed, letting out a chuckle, “No, it’s actually pretty great.”
“I’m sorry that she hurt you so deeply.”
“Yeah, me too.” Mason nodded, “Honestly, I’m pretty sure I should go see a therapist. This kind of baggage is heavy and I don’t want to burden anyone with it.”
“That’s understandable and probably the healthiest solution.” Vyl turned to open the oven and check the roast once more, “Ah, I believe that dinner is ready.”
“Great, I think all the crying made me hungrier than I was before.”
Vyl laughed, “Crying can be good for the soul, but I can relate. I think I’m hungry after I blubber—at the very least, I’m thirsty.”
Mason felt a wave of relief as he watched Vyl grab two sets of plates, handing one to Mason before setting the other one down. He picked up a carving knife and fork, cutting large slices of steaming roast and plopping two onto Mason’s plate.
His mouth watered as he stared at the hot beef, his stomach also letting out a resounding grumble of approval, “Wow, this looks delicious. Where did you learn to cook or bake?”
“I went to a culinary school a long time ago. Since we incubi have long lives, I’ve been in and out of school for centuries, picking up new things and recreating the old.”
Vyl handed Mason cutlery as he ushered him into the dining room across from the living room. The table was small with four chairs and four placemats already set on the surface. Mason had wondered if perhaps Vyl was the one who placed the little vase of fake flowers in the middle or if it was Lucas.
Setting down his plate, Vyl walked to the kitchen, coming back with the bowl of salad and several dressings pressed to his chest before he set them all down.
“I didn’t even think about how long you live. So, have you been vegan for long then?”
“Yes, actually. I just never enjoyed it like others of my kind did. So, I just didn’t do it. Occasionally the mood strikes where I wouldn’t mind feeding on a person, but it’s very rare. Because of that, I learned to cook and get nutrition from food. It only made sense to learn to cook or bake to earn money while I eat to survive.”
“Makes sense to me.” Mason smiled, cutting into his roast before taking the first bite.
It was glorious as the savory flavor hit Mason’s taste buds, “Wow. This is really good.”
Vyl’s smile grew large as he watched as Mason began cutting up his food more to get another piece into his mouth, “I’m glad—Lucas definitely appreciated my cooking as well.”
“Was this his favorite meal?”
“It was.” Vyl paused, “I’m sorry, I just feel really guilty about this ‘date’. Like I’m using you.”
“Well, join the club. I feel like an ass because I originally came here thinking that I might feel good if you fed off me. “
Vyl let out a hearty laugh, “A date where both parties were looking to ease their own pain and suffering by using the other. How romantic. This could only lead to good things.”
“From the looks of it, we might become ‘cry buddies’.”
“Cry buddies,” Vyl chuckled again, “I like it. It really brings out a softer side.”
Dinner had turned into a late gabfest with Vyl showing Mason how to make a cupcake with buttercream icing. They talked about everything from their past relationships, to video games, books, and movies. Mason even was pleased to discover that Vyl was interested in incorporating more real flowers into his baking displays. They had a lot in common and when the evening drew to a close they exchanged numbers before Vyl showed Mason out of the bakery with a box of cookies and their cupcake creations.
“I really enjoyed tonight. It’s not what I thought it would be.” Mason spoke first, pausing at the door as Vyl unlocked and opened it.
“I did too. I’m probably as surprised as you are.”
A silent pause descended on Mason as he stared down at the box in hand before meeting Vyl’s gaze, “I know I sound like a broken record, but I’m not ready to date. I’m still not really in a healthy place where I should be dating, but I want to see you again as a friend. Is that okay?”
Vyl nodded, a small smile toying at the corners of his snout, “I would like that very much, Mason. Do you think we could meet up on Sunday? I could show you how to make cookies.”
Vyl ruffled Mason’s hair playfully as Mason felt relief flood through his body.
“I’d like that.”
“Cool. I’ll text you later then. Have a good night and please get home safely.”
Mason nodded as he stepped outside, “I will—oh and Vyl?”
“Yeah?” Vyl paused before closing the door.
“Thank you. Truly.”
“Thank you too, Mason.”
Mason began walking away with goodies in hand as he heard Vyl lock up. He felt lighter than he had in a while and decided to text Jeremy about how his evening went. He ended the message with a quick note that he was going to be just fine. For the first time, Mason knew it to be true.

Wait didn't you come up with OKCryptid? Why is it being used by others?
OkCryptid was 100% @thetravelerwrites' idea.
I believe it might have been partly inspired by a passing mention to a generic 'human/non-human dating app' in a story of mine, but the brilliant name and the whole thing is really her concept, and she had the fab idea to make it a collab so we could all enjoy it.

Male Spider Monster Silus x Gender Neutral Reader (SFW)
Note: This is my first piece of writing in a very long time and my first exophilia story. Written for the awesome OkCryptid Collab. Its also the first instalment of a series of stories I’m currently working on.
A huge thanks goes to @thetravelerwrites for proofreading/editing this piece. She’s an absolute star and fantastic writer, who dedicates a lot of her time to this community, supporting other writers and helping readers find exophilia works by maintaining both the OkCryptid Masterlist & the Exophilia Creators Masterlist. So go give her your love and support over on her blog.
Without further ado, here’s 4,124 words of human/monster romance. Hope you enjoy it.
Tumblr media
Sitting at your desk, trying to write the newest chapter of your latest novel, you sigh when you her a ping from your mobile. In all honesty, the distraction is welcome; you’ve been suffering from a major case of writer's block and you’d take any excuse to put your work aside.
Checking your notifications, you sigh again when you see it’s from OkCryptid, the monster and cryptid dating app created to help monsters find mates, that you’d downloaded a couple of weeks beforehand. You had hoped it would give you a better chance at finding the one but so far you’d had the same amount of luck that you had with every other app on the market. Which was none.
You hadn’t been on a date in months. Your last relationship was over three years ago and so far things weren’t looking very positive with this new dating app. Since joining, there were very few matches and all the messages you’d received were either from men just looking to hook up for that night or they were dick pics. You couldn’t fathom why anyone thought that sending a picture of their dick would somehow seduce you but they did it anyway.
Taking a deep breath, you check to see what it’s notifying you off and you see that you have a new match and have been sent a new message from a user named Silus. Swearing to yourself that if it’s another unsolicited picture you were deleting the app, you open the message first without bothering to check his profile. No point in getting your hopes up before seeing what he’s sent you.
[Sent: 2:47pm] Silus: Hey, how are you today? I’ve recently just moved to the area and we’ve matched… So I thought I’d just say hi…
Well, that was a good start. It's certainly the nicest message you’ve received so far. Deciding to check his profile, you gasp, seeing that he’s an arachnid, specifically a spider type, which you’d never seen before.
Most arachnids chose to avoid the city, mainly due to their size and their preference for solitude. They weren’t known to be the most social of creatures and, despite being known to the general public for a couple of centuries, were one of the few species that shunned modern society, choosing to remain in forests or caves far from civilization. You weren’t sure if this was because of their nature or due to the fact that they were one of the few monsters many humans, and even some other monsters, still feared. Even those who weren’t outright scared of arachnid type monsters were still wary and uncomfortable around them.
You’re not sure how you feel about them, never having actually met one but you’re not exactly a fan of spiders. While you aren’t scared of them, they did make you squeamish. Shuddering thinking of the large spider you had to remove from your flat the day before, you decide to at least check over Silus’s profile and pictures.
His profile bio was short and sweet: he stated his name, age, and sexual orientation before going on to say that he loved plants and flowers, music, poetry and going for walks in the moonlight. He’d also added that he had just moved to the city and was looking to make new friends and hopefully find a mate. He had a gallery full of pictures, which were mostly pictures of various types of flowers, but he had a couple of himself.
Enlarging the first picture of himself, which was a selfie of just his face and torso, you were pleasantly surprised to find that you didn’t mind his spider features. His head and body was humanoid in shape, his skin incredibly pale and his very long, very straight hair was a shiny white. He had four eyes that were completely black with no sclera, those eyes sat in a row, with two larger in the centre and two smaller either side of those. His mouth was wide and in the photo he was grinning, showing that he had nothing but two large fangs in his upper jaw. His shoulders were broad and his torso was well built, with clearly defined muscles though he wasn’t overly muscular.
Swiping through his photos, you find another picture of him, this one being a full body shot which was clearly taken from a small distance. Here you could see his lower body where is torso ended and joined with his spider half, which looked large and bulbous, black in colour but covered in fine white hair which looked fuzzy. Attached to this body were eight long jointed legs which were also covered in fine white hairs. His legs looked as thick as tree trunks and you couldn’t be sure from looking at the photo but he looked huge.
This part of his body did make you apprehensive, and the more you look at it the worse you feel. Flicking between the two pictures you couldn’t decide if you were attracted to him or not. On one hand you found him incredibly beautiful, with his large pitch black eyes that you could easily get lost in and his gorgeous sleek looking hair and toned upper body. He also seemed sweet natured and had a lovely smile despite the fangs.
On the other hand, his spider lower half gave you the shivers and those long legs creeped you out. You cringed looking at them again and even thinking about those legs in motion made you shudder. Chewing on your lip you debated with yourself; you’d matched with him so obviously you had things in common and you didn’t have to jump into a relationship with him. You could always be friends first and see if it went anywhere. You just weren’t sure you could get over those eight legs…
Ping.
Startled, you look back at your phone which had gone to sleep at some point during your mental debate, and you see you have received another message from Silus.
[Sent: 3:16pm] Silus: I like your profile by the way, you’re very beautiful.... We must have a lot in common, I’ve been using this app for over a year now and I’ve never seen such a high percentage match...
Checking you see that he’s right, you’ve matched with him eighty-eight percent which was much higher than any other match you’d had and from everything you’d heard it was really rare to get a match that high. It was just your luck he had to be an arachnid, he seemed really nice too. Deciding to think further on it and make a decision later, you go back to writing, after all your novel wasn’t going to write itself.
A couple of hours later, feeling like you’ve made a lot of progress, you decide it’s time for some food. However a quick search around the kitchen reminds you that you’ve not been shopping in days. Take-away it is then.
Ping!
Frowning you see you’ve gotten another message from Silus, thinking he’s getting a little pushy, you open it to read.
[Sent: 5:30pm] Silus: Hey again, so I was thinking… I would understand if your not interested, many people don’t like arachnids…. I know a lot of people, especially humans are scared of my kind… But I hope you’ll give me a chance and see I’m not scary at all… or maybe your just busy or at work... Sorry...
Crap! You’d forgotten that your settings had been set to send read receipts. He knows you’ve read his messages and now thinks you’re ignoring him. You wonder how often that happens to him, he sounds so dejected and now you feel bad. He’d said in his earlier message that he’d been using the app for over a year so that meant he’d not had much luck finding someone. A bit like me then, thinking to yourself. Looking at his pictures again, you come to a decision.
[Sent: 5:32pm] You: Hi Silus, I’m good thanks and I was working… I am interested but to be honest I’ve never met an arachnid before and I’m unsure how I feel about it.
Silus: Oh my gosh, you replied :-) Thank you! It’s okay that you feel that way, at least you’re willing to give me a chance…
Silus: Lots of people are afraid of spiders and by extension spider monsters but honestly I wouldn’t hurt a fly…
Silus: …Well that’s a lie and probably a bad example, but really I’m not scary in the slightest…
Chuckling, you rather like Silus’s sense of humour though you’re not sure he was aiming to be funny. He was so sweet and seemed really surprised that you’d replied. Makes you wonder again how many people have ignored him just because of what he is.
You: Lol! I’m not scared of spiders exactly but they do make me uncomfortable… I’d like to get to know you though...
You: So… how are liking city life?
*************
You and Silus spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other. You learn that he works as a florist, that he’s renting a flat in the city centre and is flat sharing with a moth monster. Which did surprise you as you thought that their two species have a turbulent history. He asks what you do for work and then about the novel you’re currently writing.
The two of you end up talking long into the night and at some point you fall asleep still mid conversation. As soon as you wake up you're checking your phone for messages from Silus. You have two, the first answering the question you’d asked just before falling asleep and a second twenty minutes later where he says that he assumes you’ve falling asleep and to have sweet dreams.
Smiling to yourself, you send him a message confirming that you did in fact fall asleep and that you’re sorry about that. You then decide to get up and start your day. An hour later Silus is messaging you good morning and telling you not to worry about it. The two of you spend the rest of the morning chatting until he has to go to work. He messages again once he’s home from work and you spend the evening in the same manner as the night before.
The rest of the week followed the same pattern, work, eat and chat to Silus. By this point the two of you had swapped mobile numbers and were now communicating via both text and call. He had the loveliest voice and often during calls you forgot that you had to respond. Meeting in person wasn't a subject brought up until exactly one week after you’d first started chatting.
You were just sitting, eating lunch when you heard the ping of your mobile.
[Sent: 2:13pm] Silus: Afternoon gorgeous, are you free this evening? If you are, would you like to get a drink in town?
Taking a deep breath, you think it over, you really liked Silus and were pretty confident now that the two of you could really have something good together. Him being an arachnid no longer made you uncomfortable, at least in theory, but you were incredibly nervous. What if you saw him in person and you couldn’t see past those eight legs, you didn’t want to hurt him. Or what if when he saw you, he thought you weren’t as attractive in person. A previous date had told you that you looked thinner in your photos after all. You sigh, either way you had to know, for both your sakes.
You: Afternoon, I am free tonight and that would be lovely. Where were you thinking?
Silus: Great! :-D My flatmate works in this bar and restaurant which caters for folks like us, called The Bears Den, does that sound okay to you? It’s in city centre.
You: Yes of course! What time?
Silus: 6pm? Shall I come pick you up or would you rather we meet there?
You: 6 works for me. I’ll just meet you there, no point in you leaving the city centre to come collect me :-) I’ll get the bus, will only take me twenty minutes.
Silus: If you’re sure, I don’t mind the extra journey, I’d travel hours to pick you up ;-)
You: Lol, your so sweet but yes I’m sure. I’ll see you there at 6.
Silus: Alright then, I’ll meet you outside the bar. See you later gorgeous… can’t wait.
You: Me either! See you soon!
Checking the clock, you see that it was already 2:30pm and you had no idea what you were going to wear. Deciding your best bet would be to call your fashion-forward best friend and get her advice, your frustrated when she doesn’t answer. Oh well best go raid your wardrobe.
************
Your shaking with nerves by the time you get there and of course your twenty minutes early. Standing outside the bar feeling like an utter twit, you inspect the building. The outside is painted a glossy black and the name of the bar is painted in gold cursive above the very wide, very tall doors. It looked nice. Through the glass in the doors you could see the place already had a good number of patrons despite the early time.
You’re surprised and jump in shock when you hear your name spoken softly from behind you. Spinning around you come face to face with Silus, well more accurately you came face to stomach with Silus, because he was huge. Your breath catches in your throat and you gaze in astonishment at his form.
His large spider lower body was lowered to just inches off the ground and his long legs were arched upwards, their height reached to his human torso before coming back down to the ground. This close you could see that he had three claws at the end of each of those legs. Shifting your gaze back up, you took notice that he was wearing a smart midnight blue shirt before your attention was brought to his hands, which he was wringing togethering in nervousness. Looking to his face you could see that he looked wary but his mouth was turned up into a tentative smile.
It’s only when he quietly says your name and asks if you're alright that you realise that you’ve stood there just staring at him for the past two minutes. Giving yourself a mental shake you manage to give him a nod.
‘‘Yes! I’m good, thanks! Um... hi...’’ you giggle nervously.
‘‘Hi...’’ he replies, smile widening. ‘You still want to do this?’’
‘‘Yes, of course, sorry! Shall we go in?’’ You stammer.
Holding the door open for you, he shakes his head ‘‘No need to be sorry, I know I’m a lot to process.’’
‘‘Um... just a bit, I wasn’t expecting you to be so... big,’’ you stammer, as you pass under his arm into the bar.
‘‘Does it bother you?’’ He asks, as you make your way to the bar.
Shaking your head and giving him a smile over shoulder, you glance around the bar and see the vast majority of patrons are other non-humans. Behind the bar serving you spot a lizardfolk, who looks like a leopard gecko and a white tiger rakshasa. The rakshasa looks your way and raises a brow when he clocks Silus at your side. Making his way down the bar with a large grin on his face, you hear Silus let out a groan and suddenly he leans down to whisper in your ear, ‘‘He’s a harmless flirt.’’
‘‘What?’’ You stammer, but before he can say anything else the Rakshasa is standing in front of you and leaning over the bar to clasp Silus’s hand.
‘‘Ayaan,’’ Silus nods.
‘‘Silus,’’ rumbles the rakshasa, ‘‘It’s been awhile. Who’s your cute friend?’’ He says looking at you and giving you a wink.
Silus makes the introductions and as you give Ayaan your hand to shake, he leans down to kiss the back of your hand and gives you a cheeky grin. You understand now what Silus meant. Turning to Silus, Ayaan asks ‘‘Does Rowan know you’re out on a date?’’
‘‘Yes, and he’s upset he’s not here to see it’’ Silus replies, laughing. You give him a questioning look, but he just shakes his head at you and mouth’s later.
Turning back to Ayaan and ordering your drinks you head to a table towards the back of the bar where it’s quieter. Whilst you sit on a chair, Silus pushes the chair opposite you towards another table and lowers his spider body to the floor shifting his legs to a comfortable position. As you watch him do this, it occurs to you that your not feeling squeamish like you feared you might. In fact, your itching to lean over and see if those hairs are as fuzzy as they look. Giving Silus a smile, you see that he’s gazing just as intensely at you.
‘‘You’re very beautiful,’’ he says, swallowing nervously.
‘‘Thank you. So are you,’’ you reply, blushing.
‘‘No I’m not,’’ he says sadly, fixing you a look. ‘‘I look monstrous, I know that… but thank you for saying it anyway.”
Shaking your head you reply, ‘‘Yes, you are! You’re gorgeous, Silus…. at least you are to me, anyway,’’ you mumble shyly, reaching over the table to grasp his hand and squeezing it briefly.
Silus blushes prettily, looking at your hands shyly. Turning his hand around to clasp yours in a soft hold. ‘‘Thank you,’’ he says, sounding choked.
Hoping to distract him, you ask ‘‘So.. Is Ayaan a good friend of yours?’’
‘‘Oh yeah,’’ he replies shaking his head as if coming out of a daze, ‘‘I met him through Rowan.’’
‘‘And Rowan is? And why is he upset that he’s not here?’’ You ask raising a brow.
Chucking he replies, ‘‘Sorry, Rowans my flatmate and he’s upset because he thinks I’m probably going to make a fool of myself and he’s not here to see it…’’
‘‘Oh. Well... you haven’t, so he’s not missing anything,’’ you smile. “Is it his night off then?’’ You ask.
Shaking his head, ‘‘Nope, he would usually be working now but he’s gone home to West Oaks to attend one of his sister's wedding.’’
‘‘West Oaks? That’s where your from too right?’’ You ask.
Nodding, ‘‘Yeah... we grew up together, best friends since school. Neighbours too. We were both the youngest of all our many siblings so we spent our childhood bemoaning our lot in life.’’ He had a fond smile on his face.
‘‘You have a lot of siblings?’’ You ask sipping at your drink.
‘‘Yep! I’m one of twenty-six.’’ He grins.
‘‘No. Way.’’ you reply, sputtering.
Laughing, Silus nods ‘‘Arachnids tend to lay a lot of eggs... Moths do too, actually, Rowan is one of thirty.’’
‘‘Oh wow! No wonder the two of you banded together,’’ You say stunned.
‘‘Yeah, so when Ro decided he wanted to move to the city, I told him I was coming with,’’ Silus chuckles.
‘‘And.. do you like it here?’’
‘‘Yeah, it’s nice,’’ he tells you nodding. ‘‘Very different from living rurally, of course, and I miss the forest sometimes, but there’s a lot of good things about living in the city.’’
Before you can reply to that, Ayaan is suddenly at your table with a massive grin on his face, startling you both. Silus jerks so badly four of his legs flick out causing Ayaan to snicker loudly.
‘‘You two looked liked you were having fun, so I thought I’d offer table service’’ he says putting another two drinks down on the table. ‘‘Drink up,’’ he says and salutes before strolling back to the bar. You see the gecko behind the bar shaking his head at Ayaan’s antics, catching your eye he gives you an apologetic look before turning to serve another customer.
‘He’s a character,’’ You laughingly say, looking back at Silus.
‘‘That’s one word to describe him,’’ he chuckles jokingly.
You and Silus spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing, as he tells you stories from his childhood and teenage years where he and Rowan would get themselves into trouble. You tell him some of your own stories in return, telling him of the shenanigans that you and your best friend regularly got up to.
The two of you are so absorbed in each other that you don’t realise how late it has gotten until you hear a loud bellow from the otherside of the bar. Glancing around you see that the place is now packed full of boisterous patrons and that you have somehow missed the fact there is now a live band on stage. Over by the pool tables there is a large minotaur and a small goblin having a tussle over a pool cue and a very large orc with a dark scowl, who is obviously security is headed their way. Behind the bar both the gecko and Ayaan are looking harried and have been joined by a harpy and some type of avian.
You and Silus come to a mutual agreement that it’s time to call it a night. As Silus leads the way out of the bar, the other patrons quickly shift out of his way and a few of them stare openly, looking wary. Whilst you enjoy the fact that no one is in your personal space and you have room to move, you also feel sad that people look at him like he might turn around and eat them. You glare fiercely at one particular customer that’s standing staring rudely open mouthed, seeing your scowl they suddenly about-turn and run in the opposite direction.
Outside, you take in a deep breath of fresh air, glad to be out in the quiet. Turning to Silus you see that he’s watching you, a soft smile on his face.
‘‘Is it always like that in there?’’ You ask.
Shaking his head in the negative he replies, ‘‘Not really. It only tends to get that busy at weekends.’’
Nodding, you began speaking only to stop suddenly seeing that another orc, who looks like the double of the one inside, working the door watching you both with a sly grin. Smiling awkwardly, you and Silus start walking in a random direction.
‘‘So... what were you going to say?’’ He asks as he looks down at you.
‘‘Oh,’’ you smile, ‘‘Just that I had a really good time tonight.’’
‘‘So did I,’’ Silus blushes. “Perhaps we could do this again sometime?’’
‘‘Definitely,’’ you grin.
‘‘Would you.. like a ride home?’’
‘‘You drive?’’ You ask incredulously, looking at his spider lower half trying to work out the logistics of that.
‘‘No...’’ he chuckles. “I meant would you like to ride me?’’
Looking at him wide eyed, you suddenly break down snorting in laugher. Confused Silus raises a questioning brow.
‘‘What?’’ He asks completely befuddled.
Trying to calm yourself, you breath in deeply and ask, “Ride you? Talk about innuendo...’’ you grin.
Frowning it takes him a second to register. “Oh! I didn’t mean…’’ he groans. ‘I just meant… um… never mind,’’ he says, shaking his head with cheeks flushed red in embarrassment.
‘‘Maybe another time,’’ you smile eyeing his large lower body. ‘I’ll take a taxi tonight.’’ You nod towards the taxi rank across the road.
‘‘Right, well. I guess I have to say goodnight then,’’ he replies, smiling wistfully.
Nodding, you glance between his eyes and mouth, getting the hint he leans down and stops a hair width distance giving you the opportunity to change your mind. You don’t. Closing the distance between you, your eyes close as your lips meet his.
A quick peck leads to another, and then another, before you know it your tongue is in his mouth and you’re carefully exploring his mouth, being mindful with his fangs. One of his hands cradles your head as the other traces patterns on your back. Both your hands start on his shoulders before slowly roaming downwards. As you reach the point where his human torso meets his spider half, you softly stoke him there, feeling his soft hair tickle your hands. Silus suddening pulls away, panting harshly.
‘‘We have to stop,’’ he gasps.
You nod, agreeing and inhaling deeply.
‘‘Text me when you’re home?’’ He asks, searching your face.
Promising him that you would, you wish him goodnight moving quickly and getting in the first taxi. Silus gives a wave as the taxi pulls away and you see him watching you until your no longer in sight. Sitting back in the seat, you touch your fingertips to your lips.
Wow. That was some kiss.

OkCryptid
Tumblr media
Ok so I found an amazing post about a dating app for our monster S. O.’s and since it’s ORCTOBER I was like YES I NEED THIS. So even though I’m in school. I still wanna do this. It’s rather short but it’s cute. And @thetravelerwrites and @thetravelerscompanion they wanted to be tagged. So here you go. I hope you all enjoy it too.
Orctober- OkCryptid
You were sitting on the couch playing a game on your tablet while your daughter watched TV on a quiet Wednesday night, it was just the two of you. You were a single mom, a widow to be exact and your number one priority was always taking care of your daughter Anarra, who was 8, and when your husband had died about a year ago, he left you with quite the life insurance policies through work and a private policy which meant that you and your daughter were taken care of financially for many years to come. You had already gone back to school before he died and had gotten your license to be a massage therapist, so you already had your own business, working part time at a nearby salon that your best friend Dawn owned and you made your own hours and because you had incorporated yourself to make your own business, when your husband had died, it was easy to get health insurance for you and your daughter and because of his life insurance policies, you still didn’t need to work full time and you and your daughter could live very comfortably. You were lucky.
But, you were also lonely. Granted you were no stranger to vibrators so your “needs” were mostly taken care of. But it’s just...not the same. You were a half elf and half human and your husband was mixed too, his father was half human and half orc while his mother was half human and half dwarf and he had turned out to simply look half human and half orc. And Anarra reflected all of that, she had your husbands blonde hair, compared to your dark auburn, your turquoise eyes and your shared fair skin tone, she was just as beautiful as you were at her age but she definitely had the more slender but very physically fit physique of an elf where as you were very voluptuous thanks to your human heritage.
But lately, you just wanted...something more, it was fall, you missed cuddling on the couch under throw blankets and having date night with your husband and just...well... honestly you missed that good bone rattling sex where your husband would bend you over the kitchen island yank your pants and panties down to your knees, spread your legs, before sliding into you, grab your hips and pound into you from behind until you were sure you were going to break the god damn kitchen island! No vibrator could really do that.
“Mom?” Anarra suddenly asked, pulling you out of your lewd thoughts.
“Hmm?” Came your reply.
“Are you gonna start dating again?” She asked which made you shake your head before you looked at her incredulously.
“Why do ask? Do you want me to start dating again?” You asked.
“Well, if you wanted to, I know you miss dad and I do too, but there’s lots of other kids that don’t have moms and you’re a really great mom and if any of those kids had a dad but not a mom and maybe they’re like us and their dad is a really great dad and together we could be a family, I'd be ok with that.” She offered and you wanted to burst into tears at her sweetness and thoughtfulness.
“Ok, well if you’re ready, we could look together.” You offered before you got your phone out and downloaded OkCryptid and together you made a profile before you went through who you were matched up with already before you found a few profiles that looked good, you cross referenced them via Facebook, a few immediately became disqualified by some of the contents and pictures you found that they were tagged in before there was just a handful of possible options, two were just single guys, three were single dads, a human, an elf, and an orc. The human though was looking for an elf, the elf was also looking for an elf and the orc...judging by his kids, had been married to a human before because his two kids looked like half orc and half human to you but you couldn’t be sure but he was “open to anything" species wise. Within half an hour all three dads were in your inbox and a few of the single guys you had already disqualified who once they found out you were a mom, weren’t interested in being a father, but were interested in “hooking up with a hot milf” to which you politely declined.
So you set up dates with all of the single fathers since they didn’t have any issue with you already having a child of your own, one Friday night, one Saturday night and the third on Sunday night, all at the same place. A famous trampoline park chain - since they all had kids.
Friday came and it was the human up first. Daniel, father of two very rowdy, misbehaving, disrespectful, hellion boys. He was divorced and you could immediately tell why she left him, he just oozed self entitled asshole. He was disappointed and actually repulsed that you were curvy, thinking that because you were half elf, judging by your ears and features in your selfie, that you’d be skinny, but he seemed to make peace with it as he poked and prodded at your personal life and seemed especially keen on how much your husband’s life insurance policies were and if there was anything left or if “you had blown it all shopping for clothes and makeup” and when he asked about what you did for a living, he was thrilled then propositioned you for a “happy ending” massage which you promptly shut down and threatened to call the police because that was illegal which he backed off and backpedaled and apologized and said he was “only joking” and that you “need to lighten up”, yeah right. From there, all he cared about was how much you worked, how much you made, if you had a good credit score, if you had any STD’s, how clean you kept your house and how good of a cook you were and how good you were at laundry because he and his boys were “tough on clothes”. That date lasted a whole 30 minutes and was the longest 30 minutes of your life and you had hit the liquor store on the way home and even Anarra was relieved it wasn't going to work out because those boys were really rough in their play and it took an orc halfling who she was friends with to come over and tell them to go away and rescue her before he brought her over to play with his little sister who was a year younger than Anarra but the same size.
Saturday, was the elf’s date, Althidon, he was also divorced, had nothing but condescending bullshit to say and had two very pretty girls who were the quintessential "mean popular girls" who you wanted to slap, he was disappointed you weren’t more elf like in body shape and the fact that you were half human made him turn his nose up at you and the fact that you worked “such a meanial job” that you “needed to be rescued from” because it was beneath anything that had any trace of elf blood in it because if an elf woman had to work- it should be something more “dignified” like a doctor- lawyer- ceo type since he was an architect himself and the fact that all the education you had was a highschool deploma and massage liscence, which he automatically assumed he knew more about your job than you did because “it couldn’t possibly be that hard” because he was “an intelectual” with a “top 3% IQ” and that you had never really “applied yourself” and were “hindered by your human half” but that was only after he inquired how much your late husband’s life insurance polices were and if you had spent it all yet, yeah- fuck no, there was no way in hell you were going to tell him something like that. That date lasted not even 20 minutes. Again, the longest 20 minutes of your life.
By Sunday, you were beyond tired, beyond disheartened because they both had been in love with your face but repulsed by your body and obviously only thought you were worth their time if you were going to center your life around them or was a cash cow for them. No fucking thank you, you were going to be happy with your vibrators, you didn’t need this shit. You were about to delete the app because surely nothing good could come of it. All these guys wanted was to either hook up, or a fucking mother to take care of them and their little hellions. Ugh!
So with a heaving sigh you prepared yourself to meet with the last guy, Dektar. You showed up fifteen minutes early, got a drink and managed to slip a little bottle of cherry rum into your Dr. Pepper as you looked out of the corner of your eye as an orc was doing the same thing to his drink and you both noticed the other and recognized the other, you both had seen the other here before, but you always seemed to sit at opposite ends of the little cafe area when he wasn’t sitting in the massage chairs scattered throughout the rest of the trampoline park which the cafe area actually wasn’t that big, you kind of sort of knew him. He was Dex, he brought his boy and his girl here usually on Friday nights and stayed until glow night which was the last two hours the place was open on Fridays and you’ve actually been seeing him around for several months. His daughter was Talna, who was a year younger than Anarra but about the same size and his boy was Tark, they were actually really well behaved and played well with Anarra and the few times they had hurt themselves, you had been there with bandaids and neosporin and a kiss to the booboo to save the day because your own daughter was a little accident prone and you were always prepared which Dex was always grateful and appreciative of.
“Long day?” He asked.
“Very long weekend, you?” You asked as you nodded over to his drink and the face he made- made you giggle.
“That bad huh?” You asked which he nodded emphatically to.
“You?” He nodded over to you.
“Oh, one of the worst I’ve had in awhile.” You said before you glanced up at the clock again.
“Waiting for someone?” He asked.
“Yeah, my date.” You answered.
“Me too.” He nodded.
“Really? Who are you waiting on?” You asked, curiously.
“Brillianna Sarsys.” He answered as he looked at his phone again.
“...Dektar Bruke?” You asked as you realized he actually was your date! He seemed to realize the same thing at the same time, relief clearly on his face.
“Oh, hi,” He waived awkwardly before he got his stuff as you got your stuff and you met at a table in the middle.
“Hi, I thought your name was Dex?” You recalled.
“A lot of people can’t seem to pronounce it correctly, they think it’s Dexter so I’ve gone by Dex for decades now. And I thought your name was Bri- as in Brianna.” He chuckled in amusement.
“Yeah, most people can’t get my name right either, it’s been Bri since elementary school, also decades.” You laughed. "Well let me just say I'm so happy and relieved that you're someone I kinda sorta know already." You laughed.
"Likewise. So what's made your weekend so bad and so long?" He asked curiously.
"Oh the other dates I've had this weekend. They were complete disasters. I got on OkCryptid because I've been a widow for a little over a year and my daughter basically gave me the go ahead that she was ready to move on so earlier this week, I made a profile and you were one of my matches.” You explained.
“So the other matches weren’t great?” He guessed.
“Oh my gods were they the worst! Uh the single guys I was matched up with only wanted to hook up, which I’m not into casual sex, I don’t have anything against others who are into that, it’s just not for me. Otherwise I’ve only gone on two other dates, the first was a human, who thought I was “exotic” because I was half elf but disappointed I was fat, he had two boys that I’m sure if I had to mother them, I’d break a belt or two whooping them because they were just the worst, really rough, really rude, really crude and basically bullys and I would put them on any domestic terrorist list and potential shooter list if I could.” You listed off. “And because I am a licensed massage therapist he of course was all about the “happy ending massage” which is propositioning which is illegal, I did actually call the cops on his ass.” You added as Dex looked both sickened and enraged.
“Yuck.” Dex snarled in disgust.
“I know right? So that was my Friday night. Saturday night I had a date with an elf, who was actually disgusted I was half human, thought my job was meaneal and beneath anything that had even a drop of elf blood running through its veins. He only seemed to care about how much my husband’s life insurance policies were and his daughters were literally mini “mean popular girls” who I would again- slap their mouths off if I had to mother them. So yeah, lovely weekend.” You quipped sarcastically. “My week was actually just fine, just the last two days have been particularly awful.” You explained before you took a long sip of your spiked Dr. Pepper. “So how has your week been?” You asked.
“Oh, just as awful, I also had two dates, but I didn’t bring them here, we went out to eat. The first was a single woman who thought she knew how to parent my kids better than me and had nothing but opinions about how I was raising my kids all wrong because even though she has no kids herself she has a degree in it apparently.” He began as you grimaced.
“Yikes.” You hissed. “I hate that don’t you? When people who don’t have kids, usually aren’t even married feel they’re qualified to give advice? Or the people whose kids are the worst, think they’re the perfect parent.” You offered.
“Yes! It drives me up the wall! Now I have seen the way you are with your daughter and she’s awesome so obviously you’re doing something right, I think it’s probably the fact that you’re willing to actually discipline her.” He ventured.
“Oh very much so and I’ve noticed your kids are really well behaved too, I’d think I’d be safe to assume you do too.” You returned as he grinned proudly.
“I’ve been known to get after them when the occasion arises.” He nodded in confirmation.
“So was that it or was there more?” You asked before he rolled his eyes and shook his head before taking a long pull from his drink too.
“I wish I could say yes but sadly no, I’ve been on OkCryptid for three months and so far it really hasn’t worked out, most women just want to hook up or if they are looking for a relationship, they don’t want kids or especially if they have careers, they don’t want to give that up which I get it, some women have the “mom chip” and some don’t and if you don’t- don’t have kids but they’re usually “overwhelmed” by my situation, which I can empathize with, because I have a difficult situation to deal with. Going into a family with kids can be overwhelming.” He explained. “Honestly you were my last attempt, if it wasn’t going to work with you, I was going to delete the app and just try dating the old fashioned way, actually what’s funny is if you had not been well... you I my plan was to ask you out this Friday when I saw you again.” He confessed.
“Aww, that’s sweet and I would have been open to that.” You admitted. “Also, wow you’ve been on there for 3 months? I can’t imagine sticking it out that long. I’ve only been on there a week and I’m ready to throw in the towel.” You admitted.
“Yeah, well it’s kind of...well...a coincidence that we’re in similar situations, we’re both widowed, both with kids and just both of us looking for a decent parent because I was in the same boat as you, it wasn’t until my kids suggested I get back into the dating game before I did.” He ventured.
“It is a coincidence. And I don’t have to tell you that as a parent you’re ready and willing to do whatever it takes to take care of your children and protect them yet teach them at the same time and while I’m sure you’re probably just as lonely as I can be sometimes, you’ll put up with it and endure it because you need to be picky about who and what is around and influencing your children and you should be guarded, they’re great kids and they need to be protected.” You insisted and he looked at you like you were the most amazing being in the universe. And before you knew it, you were both leaning forward across the table and talking like you were long lost best friends and this felt so natural and it was so easy to talk to each other and actually shared some of the deeper parts of yourselves with each other and come to find out, his wife was a human orc halfling, she had been an absolute sweetheart and been such a great mom and cancer had come out of nowhere and by the time she started showing signs she was sick, it was too late and they couldn’t save her and it had absolutely devastated the family.
You shared that your husband had gone for a motorcycle ride and a driver didn’t see him and changed lanes and side swiped him and pushed him into a cement barrier on the highway and even though he had been wearing a helmet and an armored motorcycle jacket and every piece of safety gear possible, it wasn’t enough. And he didn’t press or even hint at wanting to know how much you had gotten in life insurance policies, he was simply content and happy in the knowledge that you were taken care of and doing well and able to stand on your own two feet.
You quickly exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch and made plans for a second date and when he kissed you right before you parted, it stole your breath away.
Ok, so OkCryptid was actually amazing.

_______________________
Hello lads! I’m here for a good time and a long time. Are you? I’m the man for you if you like big men with great horns and tusks, hiking in the woods, and spending time outdoors.
I work as a teacher, I love cooking, and drawing. My life goals include: hiking in all the national parks, watching every season of Red Dwarf, falling in love with you, and becoming the best teacher I can be.
If you’re the right man for me, you’ll enjoy kids, cats, and tasty food. You won’t be afraid to go on adventures, and you’ll have a healthy respect for nature.
My ideal date would involve star gazing in the mountains with a solid man by my side. While we’re there I’d admire your soft thighs and feel like the luckiest man on the planet.

OkCryptid: Jacob
Tumblr media
I started this so long ago, and I just finished this part. I do want to do a second part, but I’m not sure when I’ll get to it. Anyways, please enjoy!

Sitting in the nearly empty coffee shop, you check your phone for probably the millionth time within the last ten minutes. There are no recent messages, and the time shows it is still early. Why do you have to get everywhere so damn early? Why are you so nervous?
In hopes of passing the time, you look around the shop. There is an assortment of paintings from local artists on several walls. A small bookshelf stands out next to the counter. Differently shaped tables are placed around the shop. A long bar faces out the front window. The smell of coffee and food makes you feel warm inside. The smells and the soft music slightly calm your nerves.
You notice one of the other patrons, a male Tiefling, is sitting alone in the furthest end of the shop. His entire attention was on the book in front of him. He mouths the words he is reading. He frowns in concentration, quickly writes something in a notebook, then goes back to the book.
Behind the counter is a plump, rose-colored naga. You forget her name, but she is the barista you usually see here. She always greets you with a friendly smile and has your coffee ready in an instant. You watch as she wipes down the counter, a small smile on her face, and a slight sway in her movements.
Checking the time again, you see only a few minutes have passed. Going to your messages, you click the name Jacob and scroll up a bit. The image of a handsome man, with a nicely trimmed beard and dark brown eyes, pops up.
You met Jacob on the app OkCryptid. After two years of being single, and not meeting anyone, you decided to try the app out. Course, a couple of your friends insisted you try it. One friend even went into great detail about the male Orcs she’s dated and the great thing about them.
There were so many different monsters on the app. Orcs, werewolves, vampires, nagas, minotaur’s, and so many demons. There were even a few Tieflings, some mer people, a few faes, and even a half dragon. None of them though really interested you. You chatted with an orc, who was only interested in fucking, and a vampire who stopped messaging you back.
The only one who seemed to be interested in you was a werewolf named Jacob. He had messaged you first, saying hi and asking how you were doing. You were shocked that such a handsome man had messaged you. He was tall, just over six feet, with dark brown hair that he slicked back. His beard was nicely trimmed and his eyes were a warm honey brown. The pictures he posted of his werewolf form, he was beautiful.
He liked the basic things you enjoyed: coffee, food, animals, scary movies, a good book, and even the same Netflix shows as yourself. Scrolling through the questions part of his profile, you found everything was almost a perfect match. He seemed to be a little more outgoing than you and he enjoyed working out, but that didn’t matter. What really made you blush, was when you saw a 90% match on the sex questions.
Your phone vibrating in your hand made you jump. Looking down, you read the message.
Hey, be there in a few. Parking now.
Taking a deep breath, you replied: Cool! I’m sitting inside.
Your nails drum against the table anxiously. It’s been several weeks since you both began talking, and today would be your first date. He let you chose the place and agreed to meet you here. You were so lost in thought; you didn’t even realize he had walked in and was approaching you. When your name was said, you jump and look up to see Jacob.
His hair was loosely brushed back and he wore a denim jacket. He has a soft smile on his face and he seems amused with whatever look is on your face. He clears his throat and sticks his hand out, you stand and take it. His hands are so warm and rough, but it wasn’t unpleasant.
“Hi, Jacob,” you said.
“Hi. I’m glad I can finally meet you.”
“Same. Um, want to get anything to drink?”
“Sure. What’s good here?”
“Oh, everything.”
He lets out a soft laugh and nods his head in understanding. “I’ll take your word for that.”
You order your usual while he gets a simple black coffee. The naga behind the counter gives you a smile and winks, but she goes about making your drinks. Once you both are back at the table with your drinks, you realize how bad you are at dating.
What are you supposed to ask? Where do you look? His face? Ah, those eyes! His hands? Oh, gods! His hands are massive. Why are the veins popping out like that? As you’re panicking about what to ask, or where to look, Jacob speaks first.
“I take it you come here often?”
“Oh, yes. Usually two or three days a week. It’s quiet and the coffee is good.”
“That it is. Better than the crap I drink. Is it usually this quiet here?”
“During this time, it is. But early in the mornings, it’s busy, same for the weekends.”
He nods his head in understanding and takes a sip of coffee. His eyes shut and a small, happy smile spreads across his face. The smile looks good on him, and you can feel yourself grow warm. When he opens his eyes, you look back down at your cup.
For a moment, neither of you speak. Your mind is racing to ask Jacob a question, any question. But for the life of you, you couldn’t think of anything to ask. Jacob clears his throat, catching your attention. He’s giving you a soft smile.
“You’re nervous,” he said.
“Yeah, very. I was worried you weren’t going to show up.”
He leans forward on his forearms, a soft smile on his face. “And leave a cutie like you to drink coffee alone? No, I wouldn’t do that.”
“Cutie? Me?”
“Yeah, you. If you don’t mind me saying, you’re absolutely adorable.”
You make the mistake of meeting his eyes. The smirk on his face and the look in his eyes is almost too much. Your face grows warm and you look away.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you more nervous than you already are.”
You glance up at him. He looks sincere, his hand is rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s alright. I’m not used to people complimenting me, especially someone like you.”
“Someone like me?”
You glance up at him and see the confusion in his face. “Yeah, someone who’s handsome.”
“Handsome? Well, that’s sweet of you.” Jacob’s face grows red, but his eyes continue to sparkle. His smile never falters, it only seems to grow.
The rest of the date goes by quick. Jacob tells you about himself. He comes from a large family and is working in his grandfather’s mechanic shop. He makes a point to say that he isn’t working on the cars, he does all the scheduling and computer stuff.
“People expect me to be the one under the car or something, but that’s my twin sisters. They work with our grandfather and dad. Those two can put a car together with a paperclip and some tape, and I’m the one that struggles to remember what side my gas tank is on.” Jacob laughs. You laugh with him and nod in understanding.
“So, what is it you can do that your sisters struggle with?”
“I know how to use computers and modern technology, just like our mom. My dad, grandpa, and sisters barely know how to turn the tv on. My mom even wrote up instructions on how to get into their emails. It’s still next to the family computer at their house.”
The date comes to an end about an hour later. By then the coffee shop is busy and getting loud. Jacob offers to walk you to your car, which you happily accept.
Jacob looks nervous when you arrive at your car. He’s rubbing the back of his neck and his cheeks have a pinkish tint to them. You can’t help but think how cute he looks.
“I had a good time with you today,” he said.
“I did as well. Thank you.”
He blinks in surprise, then gives you a wide smile. “Oh, no need to thank me. Would you want to go out again?”
“Yes, I would like that very much. Are you free this weekend?”
“In the evenings I am. Is that alright with you?”
“Perfect. I’ll text you later, ok?”
“Yeah, that sounds great. Drive safe.”
Jacob opens the car door for you. You move to get into your car but stop and turn back to Jacob. He gives you a confused look and opens his mouth to speak. Before you lose your nerve, you step towards him, stand on your tip toes, and press a small kiss to his cheek. Pulling away, his face has visibly darkened, but there’s a smile on his face. You give him a shy smile and get into your car. Jacob closes the door and steps away.
As you drive away, you see Jacob in your rear-view mirror standing where you left him. His hand is on his cheek and a goofy smile is on his face. Behind him, you see what appears to be tail, wagging back and forth.
