#song of the day #I didn't make very much progress in the playlist today because I was listening to so much Turnpike Troubadours and then the family arrived! #song of the day was almost either 'Something to Hold On To' or 'Pipe Bomb Dream' by Turnpike Troubadours #but I figured I'd just finished talking about them in the year-end asks and I could go for 'Give Me All Night' instead #it's got a less regular rhyme scheme than I'm used to and a kinda rounder old-fashioned sound and it always catches my ear when it plays #and like 'Such a Simple Thing' it always reminds me of a fic #fic rec #the Xenoethnography series by Therrae which is such an incredible impressive work. Transformers from the pov of an anthropologist #by all rights 'Higher Love' should be the anchor song for Xenoethnography since it's actually plot relevant by the end of the story #and it's got such a lovely sentiment #but nope! 'Give Me All Night' gets mentioned more obliquely in the story and I had to go and look it up #and something about the little bit of extra focus means it's the song that got cemented in my mind

OVER COOKING #THEN. i worked back at the retirement home i worked at when i was 19 #but it was a like. government jail facility #and i had stolen a bunch of stuff and was sneaking out when the early early AM crew came in #and as i was slipping past them the FEAR of being caught and found out was so so so real #it was three women in housekeeping attire and i remember clearly thinking They’re Going To Find Me Out And Report Me I’m Fucked #THEN. i was kept against my will in my old elementary school but it was a hospital #there were some rooms that were like. opulent ballrooms #some were scary industrial cement floored backrooms type places #i was sitting in a line in front of the glass windows with maybe 10 other people #and we were all being interrogated. there was something medically and pressingly wrong with me #but everyone was ignoring me #we were there for hours and i kept sobbing sobbing please let us GO and they WOULDNT #none of these ever sound as terrifying as they actually are all types out like this #but rest assured. they are so so so vivid and real. every night i have flashes of lucidity #where i think This Is Real. I want their fuckin freedom they have no chores no responsibility they can go out with their friends when ever they want for however long they want they can sleep in there bed all day they eat drink drive vehicles use the phone have a home with no bills no expenses they can spend their money on stupid things that bring them joy with no worry of the gas they burned in someone else's vehicle or if there's dinner at home they have no worries about laundry no worries about dishes no worries about the messes they make because they know I'll clean it up always I want to be viewed by my family and by my friends as someone who is an actual person with limits and boundaries and who has goals and dreams they'd like to accomplish in the day besides laundry for 16 people and not a tireless cleaning machine. I want to be able to rest and have hobbies I want to be able to do things with my partner and my friends again I want to be able to fuckin daydream and make up stories again for Christ sake I want to feel like a person and not a corpse forced into playing "tradwife" I want the freedom they all have while I'm in the background doin they're dishes.
