I simultaneously want to live a lifestyle where I can regularly afford to EXTRAVAGANTLY tip service workers, whilst also living in a world where topping culture is not normal or necessary because minimum wage laws do their damn jobs and actually allow all workers to comfortably support their selves & families without relying on the arbitrary "generosity" of entitled customers

A reminder that 1) asexuality and aromanticism are spectra, there isn't an allo/a binary, and 2) the repulsed/favourible spectrum isn't reserved for the use of aspec people. It is possible to be allosexual and be sex averse or alloromantic and romance repulsed. "Attraction doesn't necessarily mean action" also applies to allos and I wish that was more widely accepted because it would save a lot of allos a lot of hassle. I just didn't expect to have to point either of these put to the aspec community

You're understandably scared so you just start reading one of the many novels you packed for the journey, but the the boat that is god starts reading over your shoulder and almost using your brain as a filter to understand human emotion. Boat-god has blorbos now, you're besties, and then you go on to the next leg of the journey and don't see boat-god again for a while. When you do, boat-god has been almost killed to death by the fish people from Portsmoth or wherever Lovecraft said they're from, so you kill the fish people and save boat-god. Boat-god's crew is here this time and when you're done tying up loose ends, and help arrives, you find out that the organization that made boat-god has been shoving a lot of god into a lot of boats and your boat-god might actually be one of the slightly less powerful ones.

I just need to vent. Someone made a podfic of one of my fics a short while back. Yesterday, they told me they were monetizing their channel and asked permission to put ads on their podfic of my story. I'm very glad they asked permission, so I could say no, but all the same, I can't help but feel so angry. I would never go to someone and say, "Hey, do you mind if I make money reading aloud your story that you spent months and months slaving over, while you don't make a single cent? Do you mind if I throw ads on this thing you poured your soul into, turning your love letter to fandom into another cog in the capitalist money machine?" I just imagine someone listening to my description of Shouto fighting Bakugou and listening to him bare his soul about his toxic behaviors—I scene I tried to craft with such care—and just before Izuku kisses Shouto's black eye, an ad for a Kia plays.

Part of me is wondering if I'm overacting—I know some people would say, 'it's just fanfiction, calm down'—but a larger part of me is like, "The absolute gall! YOU making money using MY heart???"

usually i don't have any problem not thinking about work when i'm not getting paid to do so, but i made a big mistake earlier this week and spent five hours today dealing with the fallout and still have not managed to resolve it, and when i clocked out it was actually with this vague dread about leaving it unsolved instead of relief that it's finally the weekend. like it's bad that it's the weekend because it means i have to stop working on it?? wow. gross.

My best guess with embrace the void is that it was supposed to be a bigger project but got nuked by covid. It was incorporated in February of 2020, literally just a few weeks before lockdowns happened. So yeah based on that timing I think that’s the most likely outcome.

It’s registered as a “performing arts” idk how broad that is in the UK but my first guess would be a tour of some sort that got scrapped and replaced by WAD. Maybe something like a standup special? My guess is as good as yours tbh. He’s probably holding onto it in case it can still happen. He probably wants to maintain ownership of that company name in the meantime so now nothing is happening with it.

The most important thing is that you never forget that the other person is a stranger. So you gotta treat them accordingly. You may know a lot about them that they decided to share, but to them you're just a stranger. So maybe don't walk up to them like "hi dude, nice to see you, your kids have gotten so big!" Just put yourself into their shoes and imagine a stranger being super familiar with you.

I also noticed a lot of entitlement from fans. Remembering you're just a random stranger helps with that too. No celebrity owes you anything. Or do you wanna be the creepy guy who begs a woman he doesn't know for a date cause she just HAS to get to know him cause he's such a nice guy? Probably not. I know how important it is to get a photo or an autograph or a short talk with your fave, I flew to different countries and waited for hours in the rain at night after concerts, unsuccessfully hoping for any of that. I understand that you may get mad and impatient. It's not too much to ask, right? The dude could just come outside for one second. And yes, he could, but he doesn't have to. He just played a show. He wants to relax. He's been doing this for decades. He releases new music and does interviews and goes on tour and releases new merch, everything else is absolutely optional.

And, no matter how well you think you know them: don't forget that you actually don't. All you know is what they choose to share. By now we all know that what people post on social media is fake and staged, but many people still seem to think that it's different with celebrities cause they watched every interview for years and put in a lot of "work" to be as close to their idols as possible. Accept that you don't know shit about them, only their public persona. Don't try to connect some absurd dots like those Swifties apparently did.

TLDR: Your favorite celebrity is a stranger. Treat them as you'd treat any other stranger if you ever get the change to interact with them, but also in your general existence as a fan. Respectfully and with the proper distance.
