I got another Alma and Mirabel bonding au!
Ok so, what if the Madrigals were gods? Like:
Alma - Goddess of strength, independence, fertility, and festivity
Julieta - Goddess of peace, healing and fertility
Agustin - God of loyalty, crafting, and perseverance
Isabela - Goddess of flowers, elegance, and beauty
Luisa - Goddess of strength, independence, and loyalty
Pepa - Goddess of war, emotions, and storms
Felix - God of light, happiness, and love
Dolores - Goddess of silence, peace, and hope
Camilo - God of trickery, comedy, and festivity
Antonio - God of animals, happiness, and imagination
Bruno - God of Prophecy, wisdom, and laughter/comedy
The story/au goes that Alma fell in love with a human man, Pedro. Her parents, friends, and even strangers told her that it won’t end well but Alma, being the young goddess she was, didn’t listen. The way they met was at the candle festival, Alma loved festivals so she wasn’t going to pass up a fun time.
So, she disguised herself as a human and went to the festival. Soon meeting the love of her life. They dated, got married, and had three demigod children. Everyone on earth and above the clouds were of course happy for them. But her parents and friends couldn’t fight the feeling of something going wrong.
On the night of the triplets' birth, Alma was in a deep coma like sleep, as any mother would be. While asleep with her three babies next to her, Pedro was outside talking to a “friend”. This “friend” got word of Pedro marrying a goddess and having children with her. His jealousy got the best of him and when Pedro was in his calmest and happiest state…he killed him.
Not long after Alma woke up in a cold sweat and went outside to look for her husband. At the moment, a raid was going on. Houses and stores are up in flames, men with machetes on horses left and right and Pedro…After what seemed like days of weeping and sobbing, she found the man who killed her husband and…dealt with him properly, let's say.
After that incident, the only humans allowed to come near her were Pedro’s parents, high up on Monte Encanto (Mount Encanto, Like Mount Olympus ). Humans can only go to Mount Olympus when they are invited, no other way. On the plus side, it’s incredibly too high for any human to climb.
Alma was quite upset and hates herself for not being vigilant enough to protect her husband, therefore she’s going to protect her children and never let them near humans. In her mind, falling in love with them is the worst thing you can do, on both sides.
Where does Mirabel come in? Give me a sec
Remember how I mentioned Pedro’s parents? Yeah, they wanted his grave to be on earth. They wanted it on earth because they didn’t want to constantly have to have Alma’s permission for them to see their own son’s grave on mount Encanto. So, out of respect of his parents, she lets the grave be on earth and every so often she visits it when she needs time alone or is too stressed out.
Her children sometimes tag along with her on his birthday and leave some flowers or gifts for him to take into the afterlife. You know how the skeletons in Coco would take a magical version of the gift sat on their grave?
Yeah, they believe that’s how he takes the gifts. On one of his birthdays, the triplets and Alma visited his grave with gifts to give him. While doing so, they heard a faint cry. A baby's cry, they looked around to see if there was any baby in the distance. They didn’t see anything. The cry was far but close enough to hear, which is strange, who would leave a baby at a graveyard of all places?
After looking around a bit more, they found a little baby girl in a basket near a tree. She was small, very small, and she looked…new. Like not even a day new, like she was born mere hours ago.
Julieta, being the caring mother she is, picked the baby up and held her close. The little infant was cold, very cold, and from the vibe she was giving Julieta, more than likely sick.
“She’s just a baby, who would do such a thing?!”
Alma stared at the little one and she knew right then and there, she had to care for this child. Unlike her granddaughters, who had been born within the safety of alabaster stone pylons, and in the presence of trained nursemaids draped in maroon and gold silks, this little baby had no such luxury.
Unlike Isabela, whose head was christened in rosewater the minute she was birthed, or Luisa who was immediately coddled in the finest of linens to warm, or Dolores who was put in the finest cradle made of gold and calming scented clouds to lay her head on. Mirabel was in nothing but a withered old basket and wearing…nothing. There was a simple small blanket covering her, nothing more.
And to top it all off, she was born on her late husband's birthday, March 6th. This little girl was a miracle. She would’ve called her a gift from the gods but she just went with a gift from her Pedro.
So, from then on, little Mirabel (or sometimes Miracle) was welcomed into the family as a Madrigal. A mere human yes, but still an amazing little gift that Alma welcomed with open arms.
She was going to teach her everything from literature, mathematics, combat, science, just anything in the little girl's early years to make sure that she was going to be strong, independent, and smart just like her.
“I give you my word neita, you will be outstanding”
Mirabel/Miracle was given to Julieta and Agustin to care for but…it’s more like Alma adopted her herself. She read her stories, gave her gifts, fed her, clothed in the best clothes, etc. To make sure absolutely nothing happened to her little Miracle, Alma made a potion for Mirabel to take everyday to make sure she’s immortal.
The potion was supposed to give her other magical properties but it only gave her immortality, no god magic like her sisters or primos. No super strength, healing, no ability to control weather, ability to make plants, shapeshifting, or hear from far places, nothing.
No matter how many potions Alma made, no magic from her family would stick besides immortality. No matter, she was still special, and will forever be special in Alma’s eyes.
At school (for the god kids, but Mirabel was easily accepted in) Alma made sure she only had the best teachers, if she couldn’t always be the one teaching her then Alma was going to make sure gods who were well qualified were going to.
Mirabel isn’t bullied per say but she isn’t well liked either. To gods, humans aren’t anything but an annoyance or something to play with. So seeing something you were taught to not see as anything but a speck is doing better in class than you…does get annoying. And most of them think she doesn’t deserve to be there
All of the god kids avoid her unless they are paired up with her for an assignment. Other than that, they don’t pay much attention to her, and it’s easier for them because they are much taller in comparison to her. They don’t even have to look down in her direction.
God children ages 1-5 are about half her height at fifteen. So in this au, Antonio is at her shoulders, Camilo is four feet above her, Luisa is two feet above him, Isabela/Dolores are three feet over her, and the adults are a few inches above the two oldest girls.
Alma keeps her height small in case she has to talk to Mirabel, who she knows can’t stand her smallness. Did I mention that Mirabel needs to nearly climb everything in her castle to get to it? If no one in the family is around she really has to climb her way to the kitchen counter just to make a snack.
Oh, and Alma doesn’t look old is this au. From what I’ve read in Greek mythology and seen in Greek statues, none of the gods look or seem to be older than 30 so Alma looks 26 but she’s about the same age she is in canon. Same goes for the triplets, no gray hair or that much wrinkles.
Mirabel does have her own room in this au and all that jazz. I’m not so sure what to do for dynamics but I think I’ll keep things the same? Idk,
I was thinking that maybe Mirabel, Camilo, and Dolores are ok with each other, but leave them in a room alone and it’s just gonna be…awkward and silent. They don’t talk much seeing as they just have stuff to do but they're alright with each other. Antonio and Mira still have that cute little brother and older sister relationship though.
Luisa and Mirabel are cool, Luisa is a little overprotective of her, but it’s not to the point of where it’s annoying. I’m not sure about Isabela and Mirabel’s relationship though. I feel like Isabela is slightly Jealous that Mirabel gets more attention from Alma in regards to gifts, excellent teachers, and knowledge about anything and everything she gives her.
Don’t get me wrong, she loves her and would rip the entire fabric of the universe for her, but Isa just isn’t quite sure what to do with her. Julieta and Agustin are still loving parents and shower her with love and care when they can.
Felix and Pepa love her too and speak to her when they have the time. Bruno does the same and cracks some jokes if she’s ever upset.
Now in this au, Mirabel is like Ariel but different. She wants to be around people because that's what she knows she is. A person, not a goddess. So, when she has the chance, she goes down to the human world to just feel normal.
The adults, teens, and kids they're don't treat her like she's some creature you're not supposed to talk to. Down on earth she's seen as a regular human being, and she loves that. And the simple fact that it's a rarity for anyone to be above six feet, her smallness is seen as normal.
And to top it all off, not every person around her is on some high horse of importance. Humans are just simple Humans.
But girl knows damn well she's not supposed to be down there. Alma wants everyone, Including Mirabel, to follow the rule of not talking to humans.
"It causes nothing but trouble on both sides."
But Mirabel isn't a goddess so talking to people wouldn't hurt, right That’s all I’ve got for now, if you have any ideas, let me know!
This is sad :((( good idea❗❓ but like also sad :( like why???? Take a human child in knowing full and well that she might be excluded from things 😭😭 though they had good intentions, and obviously Alma means well. It does make me wonder, why doesn't Mirabel feel even the least bit above the normal humans? Also would Alma be able to give her some kind of "demi-god" status and give her more abilities???
Idk, still real cool <33
Imagine climbing a mountain just to leave a baby there and dip back down. You could do all that but care for the child 🤨

TW: Some cussing
As always Likes, reblogs, and comments are appreciated. Questions are fine as well.
Special thanks to @miracles-and-butterflies and @evostar for the inspiration.
These past several months have been the best fun Camilo has ever had. He bonded a little more with his family and that's the best thing he could ever ask for. Pranking people with Isabela, games with Dolores & Antonio, relaxing/talking about whatever with Mirabel/Luisa, and writing stories with his new Tio Bruno. Ok, well he's not new but still.
Not only that, but he's not forced to perform or babysit some random kid anymore. Don't get him wrong, he loved performing and babysitting but...it was getting a bit much for him.
A few years after his ceremony, it became expected for him to perform. To make people laugh. So much so that people would actively seek him out in hopes for him to make them laugh.
After he turned nine, he was given children to babysit. A few cousins on his papa's side of the family. No biggie. But after that, word spread around the Encanto, and he just became the designated babysitter of the place.
2, 3, 4, sometimes six or seven kids at a time that he was forced to look after. And at the time, he couldn't refuse. The family image was on the line and wanted to make abuela the miracle proud.
So, he dealt with it. All the times he wanted to relax he had to perform to make crowds or kids happy. If you need an extra Luisa you can just go to him. He can’t mimic her build and the strength she would have without her gift to help carry or lift whatever you needed…To hell with his own relaxation.
“Hey, it's Camilo! Tell us a story, we know you have a good one to share”
“I’ve been down lately, say something to lift my spirits”
“Say something funny, I'm so bored!”
Any time he tried to refuse he would be peer pressured into it. Or told how he was supposed to help. Sometimes he would get scolded if he said no too many times.
"You are a Madrigal for god's sake, you can't help me for a couple of hours?"
"Just take Elicia now, I'll be back in a couple of hours!"
"What's with the attitude?!"
"You watch that attitude young man, or I'll tell Alma how rude you've been."
And usually, when asked to go to a certain place, he usually has to be someone else.
"Hey, I need you to be me for a couple of hours. I do not want to go to that wedding"
"Can you be me at my sister's birthday party? I really don't want to go"
"I need you to be me and go on a date with my girlfriend. She's really been getting on my nerves lately and I just need to break"
"You're Camilo Madrigal, right? Turn into Isabela and do something funny"
Just constant pressure to be that happy go lucky town jester, doppelganger, and babysitter. Not to mention that his gift was taxing on his body. Every shift took more energy out of his body but how was he supposed to explain that? To children especially?
All the food he ate would barely even give him the energy he needed because he would be out of it two hours after breakfast or lunch.
There were days where just wanted to pass out from exhaustion, but he couldn't, you know why? Because he was Camilo Madrigal, Alma Madrigal's grandson, a bearer of the Miracle his abuelo died to give.
He was never allowed to be sad, angry, or any version of upset. Just a happy sunshine boy who would make you smile if you demanded asked him to. Camilo can’t even remember when he actually let himself feel anything besides joy.
But after the magic left...that all stopped. And even when someone tried to pin a child on him, one of his parents, sister, or primas would shoo the person away in their own way.
Things were getting so much better for him and the family as a whole. Sure...there are some issues that haven't been said on Camilo's part but...he has all the time in the world to say something right?
He has all the time in the world to tell his family that he has trouble understanding who he is. How he has trouble seeing who the person is in the mirror when he looks at it. When he looks in the mirror he’s too scared to see whether it’s himself or someone else hiding underneath.
How he still has issues letting himself feel negative emotions but…the magic isn't going to come back to distract everyone. So everything is going to go great.
-
Camilo watched as his hermanito gave Mirabel the doorknob. His smile widened and his heart swelled at the wholesome sight. As she walks up to it, they all come close.
"We see how bright you burn"
He sings with his family. He, his Hermana, and parents smiled warmly at her.
"We see how brave you've been"
"Now see yourself in turn"
Mirabel's sisters and parents do the same. Everyone in the family, including Abuela, looks at her proudly. She finally makes it up to the new family door. Tio bruno now stands beside tia julieta and tio agustin. Man, has he grown since the start of all this. Still a little skittish and scared of people but he’s genuinely trying and making progress.
All of them stay behind her, silently showing that it's her time to shine. She puts the doorknob in the hole and as soon as she does, magic sparks from it. Camilo's heart raced with fear...this isn't happening. He watched as the magic swirled around the house and all over the Encanto. Feeling the magic pulsate through his veins again.
No.
No. No. No. No. No. No! No! No!
NO!
This can't be happening right now. Not after all this time, it can't be. The magic felt agonizingly warm within his body. He never wanted to feel this warmth ever again in his entire life.
"Hola Casita!" Mirabel smiled and waved at the home.
The happy house started making music with its tiles, doors, windows, and anything else it could finally control again. With so much excitement, Casita bounced the stone floor under Mirabel and welcomed her in first.
"Come on! Get in here!"
youtube
Casita did the same for everybody and slid everyone in using the ground they stood on. The joy was ultimately infectious to everyone but Camilo. He was still trying to process what the hell was going on.
"Calm down Camilo, our gits aren't back. It's just Casita, that's all" He thought to himself as everyone was piled in. "Surely, they wouldn't come back...right?"
Boy was he wrong, one by one, gift by gift. Isabela got her flower powers, Antonio could speak to his animals, Luisa got her super strength back. Pepa was happily dancing with small bits hail over her head. Felix cheering her on as always.
That must mean...no, no no no, it didn't. It couldn't have. He's happily gift less.
But he knew his gift was back. He could feel it in his very soul. Camilo was scared, frightened even. Does this mean things will go back to how it used to be?
Was he going to be the town jester and doppelganger and babysitter again? Was he now going to constantly be told to be someone other than himself?!
No, no, he won't let that happen.
Camilo looked around at the scene. Everyone seemed so happy and jovial while he was in a state of turmoil. Milo was feeling overwhelmed. He has to make this stop. He has to-
Suddenly, the tiles under his feet moved him to the center of the courtyard. Snapping him out of his thoughts.
Wait, what's happening?! he thought as his eyes looked around confused. The family all posed as the camera was brought out and bounced over to them with a rat on top of it.
"Everyone together!" Alma said cheerfully
Huh?!
"La Familia Madri-" Everyone was cut by Casita making them all huddle in too close together. Resulting in a funny but cute family photo.
After the family broke apart a little bit, Milo was given some space to think. If you could call it that. His mind was practically racing with all those horrible memories of how things used to be.
Dolores looked at him as she heard his heart racing. To be fair, everybody's hearts were racing but she was the closest to him at the moment.
She looked at his face. He wasn't smiling. He looked perplexed to say the least...and a little scared. Which was odd, this was supposed to be a joyous moment right?
She stepped a little closer to him and put her hand on his shoulder. A small way to get his attention.
"Milo...you okay?" She asked softly and quietly, he was close enough for him to hear but quiet enough for others to barely acknowledge.
There's no candle...nothing to snuff out. Nothing to make the magic go away. It's going to happen all over again. No one is going to want me for me anymore. I have to get rid of it. GET RID OF IT! GET RID OF IT! But how?! Did Mirabel bring it back? no...wait, the doorknob...THE DOORKNOB-
"Camilo?!"
Dolores spoke a little bit louder as she nudged his shoulder. Camilo looked at her in shock and looked around. His heart was still going rapidly.
"Camilo are you alright?!" She asked him while she looked into his eyes. She saw panic in his eyes, and he wasn't saying anything...he must be having a panic attack.
Her concerned voice alerted her parents Pepa looked at her son and stepped a little closer, putting her hand on his cheek.
"Mijo, are you okay?"
Camilo finally snapped out of his thoughts "I- I uh...yeah, I'm just...shocked is all" he chuckled nervously. Which wasn't a lie, he was shocked.
"Your heart was going really fast milo, are you sure-"
"I'm sure Dolores!" Camilo answered with a slightly irritated tone. He didn't mean that. Quick idiota, change your attitude "Heh....I'm okay, I'm happy"
Ok, very odd. He was telling the truth but there was something he wasn't saying. Dolores, Pepa, and Felix could see it.
"Mijo...if there's something wrong you can say it." Felix said sincerely.
"I'm fine papa, really"
The party continued and everything was going well. Camilo joined in on the fun as well. But only to appear just as happy as everyone else was. But on the inside, he was feeling everything but happy.
"The magic is back now" a voice in his head said.
"You know what that means," Another voice said.
"Everything will go back to how it used to" another said.
"You're going to be the villages Mamita and bufón again"
"It'll all go back to everyone never wanting you, just someone who doesn't even act or look like you"
What is happening?! Where are these voices coming from...why are they saying this to me... Camilo thought to himself.
"We're saying it because it's true milo. Everything is going to go back to normal...unless you take that doorknob out of the front door of course."
This was becoming very concerning to him...but he felt like they were right. He didn't want to go back to that, he can't go back to that! He needs that doorknob gone.
When he noticed the attention wasn't on him, he snuck out to the front of the house and stood in front of the door.
It was a happy little door. It had everyone on it as a family. Cami couldn't deny that it was a sweet sight. But he wasn't really in the mood right now for sentimental value. He looked down at the doorknob, staring into it intently. It glowed so beautifully with that 'M' carved into it. Oh, how he hated it.
"Go on!"
"I can't!"
"Just take it already!"
"What if it doesn't work?"
"You want to go back to how things were? At least try it!"
Camilo internally argued with himself for a few more seconds until he reached out and gripped out. He tugged softly the first time, no budge. He tugged harder, still, it didn't budge.
“Puta madre!! Why Mirabel, WHY?! You just have to fuck everything up don’t you?!” Camilo seethed to himself. There was definitely no way of removing the magic this time. That doorknob more than likely wouldn’t budge unless Mirabel herself wanted to remove it.
He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, to punch something ANYTHING! This isn’t fair. He can’t go back to being other people! He can’t go back to babysitting every kid in Encanto without a choice in the matter.
“I don’t even know who I am at all and it’s all their fault! Those soul sucking ungrateful villagers. I never even got a thank you for watching their kids! Never a “thank you” for pretending to be someone else for them! I'm not going to let anyone force me back into that corner, EVER! I will burn this entire encanto DOWN to the ground before that happens again!”
Camilo’s heart was racing fast as he stared at the glowing door. Those smiles were so adorable…so mocking. He looked at the glowing version of himself “drawn” onto the door. He reached up to it and touched it.
The door felt sickeningly warm to the touch. He could feel the music from inside vibrating off of it. Milo took his hand away with a scowl etched into his lips. He chuckled but there was no joy in it. Only disdain.
Before he could think anything else the door swung open and hit him straight in the face, knocking him down.
“OW!” Camilo groaned as he sat up off the ground clutching his face.
“Huh? Oh sorry Milo, I didn’t know you were there” A voice said apologetically. Camilo instantly recognized it as Isabela’s.
He looked up and saw her. She was completely covered in a variety of pollen colors but the most obvious one was dark blue. She held her hand out and Camilo begrudgingly took it. Next to her was a giddy and bouncy Antonio.
“Did you kick the door open?!” He said as he rubbed his hurt nose.
Isabela shrugged, “Yeah, lo siento. Now come on, Casita said that some of us have new additions to our gifts. Antonio wants you to try something”
Camilo looked down and was met with Antonio’s beaming face, “Cami! Dolores can turn her gift off when she wants too, that’s so cool right?! Isabela can make all kinds of plants now, even poisonous ones! I’m not sure what I or mama or Luisa can do yet but I want you to try something!”
Camilo took in all of that information and reminded himself that he wasn’t smiling, so he pretended that he was just as happy as Antonio, “Oh really? Well, what do you want me to try?”
“Try shapeshifting into animals por favor!”
Milo was taken back by that, animals? He remembered trying that once as a kid and nothing happened.
“I- I don’t know tonito-”
“Pleeeeeease!” Antonio begged with that adorable smile and big eyes. Who can say no to that
Camilo sighed and kneeled down to be at his hermanito’s level “fine, any specifics?”
“A jaguar, like Parce!” Antonio bounced with anticipation and joy.
The teen boy looked up at Isabela, who just shrugged and put a hand on her hip as she waited. He looked back down at Antonio and stood back up.
“Well…worth a shot” Camilo shrugged and closed his eyes.
Milo focused on the image of Parce in his head and breathed a deep sigh. His eyes closed and breathing calm. After ten seconds he opened his eyes. He looked at Antonio and up at Isabela, then down at the ground.
Paws…he sees paws! He tried to circle around but he would just trip over himself seeing as it’s the first time he’s walking in cat form. But that didn’t deter him at all. He was ecstatic.
“I- I did it! I turned into jaguar! I can shift into animals-”
“Pffft-” Isabela snickered and Antonio giggled at the sight. Camilo assumed it was because he was walking funny. Nope.
“You missed a spot primo!” Isabela pointed at her face
“Que?”
“Your head isn’t a jaguar head. And you have a human backside” Antonio giggled. In a quick pace, tonito asked Casita to open the front door. The house obliged and did what it was asked. Before Camilo could get a word out Antonio shouted that everyone come see Camilo in a jaguar form.
“No wait! Don’t!” Milo wasn’t a fan of his weird shifting quirks. They always acted up at the worst times and he hated it. Now was one of those times. The more he tried to shift back into any other animal or just himself he would just shift into a different animal with strange human likeness.
By the time people were outside they saw the amalgamation that was a half donkey, horse, and teenage boy. It caused people, especially his family, to laugh at this shifting quirk. It was causing him to panic and shift more uncontrollably.
He didn’t want this, he didn’t want to be the town entertainment again. Milo stopped to focus on the ground. In this form his legs looked to be a donkey's legs, horse torso, and a capybara face with his normal hands and hair.
Alma came up to him with tears in her eyes as she chuckled, “aye milo, still trying to make everyone laugh I see”
This isn’t happening right now…it couldn’t be. He wanted this to be a horrible dream but all of it felt too real to be. The laughs were so loud and annoying. His heart was beating really fast and all he could do was just look around in embarrassment.
Pepa saw the panic in his eyes and her smile quickly faded, as well as her rainbow. She quickly walked over to him. Felix noticed her expression and followed suit.
Pepa stood by him and patted his head in order to calm him down “Cami, you alright?”
Camilo looked up at her and looked back at everyone else. He was not okay. He needed to not be the center of attention right now. He tried to shift into his human form but that just caused so much more embarrassment for him.
Not to mention that all of this unorthodox shifting was hurting him. His bones and skin just shifted into so many things so many times. It was painful.
Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! PLEASE STOP! He thought to himself. With a final scream of frustration he finally shifted back into himself. He checked himself over. Normal hands, normal face, normal body, normal feet.
His breathing was quick and uneven. His heart beating a thousand beats per second. And…he was crying. Tears were falling down his cheeks and his body was shaking.
“Camilo” Felix looked down at his son with concern and bent down to pick him up by the arm. “Hey, hey mijo! Breath, look at me!”
The teen couldn’t hear him. In fact, Camilo could still hear and see the villagers laughing at him. Even if they weren’t anymore. The laughter got louder and louder to him, never stopping.
This frightened Camilo and he ran past all of them. Pushing and knocking over whoever he can to get inside Casita. The voices calling out to him were unheard as he rushed up Casita’s stairs and into his room.
It was still the same as it used to be. A large theater with a big stage. The only difference was that the lights were much brighter than they used to be. And they were directly on him and followed his every movement as he ran past the audience seats and on top of the stage.
He moved the curtain back and his old king sized bed was there with all of its yellow, orange, and red pillows, blankets, and sheets. On the right of his bed was a large rectangular mirror with the classic round light bulbs decorating all sides of it.
“Casita…please,” Camilo whimpered as tears fell down his cheeks. Laughter was still echoing in his head. “Make it stop!”
He covered his ears like his hermana used to when noise became too much for her.
Why is this happening to me?! I just want things to be normal! Why can’t I be normal, why can’t this family be normal?! Camilo fell to his knees and tightened his hold on his head.
Why did Mirabel have to touch that fucking doorknob! This is all her fault, her fault, her fault, HER FAULT! Everything was fine before that. My life was going to be normal and now it’s back to how it was! Those people are going to use me again…no…
Camilo’s eyes widened as he stumbled upon a thought, “Those people…those ungrateful ass people! How dare they laugh at me?! After all the turmoil I went through to make them happy…that’s how they repay me”
The teen boy chuckled, then giggled, and soon he started to laugh. Loudly and Maniacally. This was it, Camilo finally snapped.
“I’ll make them pay”
On the outside of his room, Dolores was downstairs at the kitchen table trying her best to listen in on her hermano. But she couldn’t hear anything. She did hear him crying but then it just stopped as quick as it started. The only thing she could hear was his heart beat. There was a thought that he was just doing this to get attention but Camilo would never do that.
“Do you hear anything?” Pepa asked with concern in her voice. The only reason she didn’t barge into his room is because Felix stopped her. He wanted to see him too but didn’t want to overstep a boundary.
Dolores shakes her head, “No, mama his room is soundproof”
Antonio looked up at his hermana and parents, “Is he gonna be ok?”
Felix looked down at his youngest son sympathetically, “He’ll be ok mijo, he was just uh…a little embarrassed”
“A little my ass” Pepa thought to herself as she was stroking her braid. A small gray cloud over her head.
“He was crying though” Antonio doubted and sank back into his chair a little bit.
The table went quiet as everyone went into deep thought. He looked really panicked, hurt (both physically and emotionally), and embarrassed. Most of them thought he may have been having a panic attack but Dolores informed them his heart rate has slowed down. Which was also a calming thing to know for her as well.
“If I was in his situation I would’ve cried and ran off too” Bruno admitted quietly as he fiddled with his fingers.
Camilo breathed in a deep sigh and stared at himself in the mirror. For once in a long time, Camilo saw his face staring back at him. He was sure of himself now…and knowing that put a sinister smile on his face.
He tilted his head as he noticed something…man he needed a wardrobe change.
I need a better style than this. Oh! I know Mami and Dolores would love to help me with that! Tonito and Papi would too. Milo stood up and walked away from the mirror, swiping the curtains out of his way and walked down the stage stairs.
Once he made it out of his room he closed his door lightly and leaned his back on it. A big and chipper smile appeared on his lips. A soft and happy voice to go with it.
“Dolores, can you and Mami come upstairs please? I want a makeover”

Redesign/wardrobe ideas are welcome.

Encanto Headcanons Part 5
((Well, it's been a hot minute, but I have more headcanons after months of thinking up of some. A good chunk of these were mentioned in fanfics of mine.))
It’s a super common headcanon that Mirabel was a preemie and a rainbow baby (and as a rainbow baby myself I absolutely love it), but I can also see Luisa being overcooked for about a month (which can be an explanation of my headcanon about Luisa weighing eleven pounds at birth)
She was supposed to be born closer to the triplets’ birthday, but she probably wanted to give her tio Felix herself as a late birthday present
Felix was just as affectionate as a kid as he is as an adult. He would often kiss caregivers’ backs and shoulders as a toddler and run to other kids and give them hugs.
That’s how he and Pepa (kind of) became friends. He found her and wanted to be her friend, so he ran up to her and hugged her. This shocked Pepa but also made her create the brightest rainbow the Encanto has seen in a while.
She forgot about it after a while until they met again as teenagers and she recognized him once he introduced himself to her.
Agustin was the type of toddler that loved playing with dolls. His mom was okay with it but his dad was worried. (“Don’t you think that will make him… you know…” “What? A good father?”)
And a good father was exactly what he became!
Pepa and Bruno would collaborate in writing musicals together. Since Bruno loves to write plays and I can see Pepa loves to write stories and songs and make up her own dances as an outlet to express themselves, they would often write something together and ask Julieta to perform it with them.
They still collaborate sometimes from time to time, and Camilo and Mirabel always ask to help them after they performed one of them for the kids when they were younger.
The adults knew who was the favorite of which child solely based on their reactions when they were dropped off at daycare as toddlers. Whoever the child cried for at drop off was the favorite adult of that child.
Mirabel and Antonio were the worst with this because they were the ones who cried whenever either of their parents would drop them off.
Pepa was the type of baby and toddler that would laugh at absolutely everything. Alma would do something as simple as coughing and Pepa would think it was the funniest thing on the planet.
Bruno was also the same way. While he was a quiet kid, everything was funny to him as a toddler and he and Pepa would annoy Julieta many times with their obnoxious laughter.
Bruno was a late talker. He could not talk until he was three and a half.
Pepa, on the other hand, was the early talker of the triplets. Her first words were “clear skies” (like a lot of other people’s headcanons) when she was only sixteen months old.
Remember that one fanart of Pepa and Bruno wearing the “Get Along Shirt” that Julieta kept for years? Well, she’s used it on Isabela and Mirabel on many occasions when they were little, and sometimes even after Casita was rebuilt, but not as often as before.
(Another common headcanon) Luisa and Antonio are very close and often bond over being the only ones that don’t have a cousin that’s the same age as them.
Pepa and Felix sing to each other all the time, so do Julieta and Agustin. They do it every night before bed.

character basics ⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅
Tumblr media
Abril Valdivia picked up her key from the front desk two months ago. The twenty-four year old uses she/her pronouns and is a Graduate Student and Tattoo Apprentice at Caos Tatoos on the Catalina from Tijuana, Mexico. According to her apartment application, people have told her she looksa lot like Andrea Chaparro and the character they identify with most is Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place. Santa Moneda gives you a warm welcome, and we hope you enjoy your stay. (sophie, 24, she/her, gmt - 8)
-- Basics
full name: abril sosa valdivia
hometown: tijuana, mexico / san diego, ca
sexuality: pansexual
birthday: april 9th
zodiac: aries sun, gemini moon, cancer rising
height: 5'6"
languages spoken: spanish, english
relationship status: single
traits: witty, creative, resourceful, protective, loyal, defensive
-- Background (tw death, addiction)
abril was born in tijuana, mx to loving parents maria elena and antonio. life in her formative years are remembered fondly, as she grew up with two supportive parents who offered her the best experiences they could. however, tragedy struck just days after turning eight, when abril unexpectedly lost her mother to a rare heart condition, leaving her and her father heartbroken.
abril's father, overcome with grief, sought solace in the pursuit of wealth and success for him and his only daughter. what began innocently with weekend trips to the casino soon escalated into an all-encompassing gambling addiction. his relentless pursuit kept him away from home for days on end, chasing one get-rich quick scheme after another.
as days turned into nights, her father's absence became routine for abril. with no siblings to rely on, abril was left to live with her ailing grandmother. working at the local laundromat, commissioning her doodles, performing chores for neighbors, and even seizing opportunities to pickpocket became her strategy for survival.
although not particularly fond of school, abril was encouraged by her grandmother to pass her classes in hopes of forging a new path for herself. a diploma meant a ticket out of the city that reminded her of her parents. years of mourning the loss of her mother in isolation, coupled with the neglect of her basic needs, led to the resentment towards her father for the choices he made a desire for a stable future. once she graduated high school, she attended university in san diego, ca. during her senior year of school, her grandmother passed away. she never got to see her graduate. even after receiving her degree, the city's proximity to her home town served as a constant reminder of the life she wanted to escape. she needed a fresh start.
following graduation, abril decided to pursue a graduate degree in psychology in a valparaíso. abril is determined to seize the opportunity for the new beginning she craved. however, years of maturing at an accelerated rate have set her up to make some reckless choices as a young adult with newfound freedom.
-- Personality
abril operates primarily in her self-interest, and her demeanor is marked by a sense of self-assuredness. she tends to be judgmental of others and their choices as she has a history of being let down by those she loves and trusts. her fear of commitment manifests in a tendency to engage in casual relationships, and her dry wit, though sharp, can be occasionally off-putting to those around her. despite these qualities, abril possess a scrappy resilience that has served her well. her loyalty to the people she loves is unwavering, and her street smarts make her a resourceful and trustworthy companion when things get hard.
-- Headcannons
loves art, doodles and paints in her spare time. sometimes she takes commissions from shop owners to add street art to the walls of their businesses.
tattoo apprentice
chases a good time (gimme one margarita)
loves astrology and crystals
is very financially conscious
has a cat named flora
commitment issues queen
-- Connections
short-lived romances: abril does have some, how do u say commitment issues. i'd love to see her forage an enemies-to-lovers type of situationship. enemies with benefits if u will.
the best friend from childhood: abril moved to chile after finding out a childhood best friend of hers lives here and is thriving. i'd love for her to have a connection with someone she can let her guard down around!
caos tattoos: u have been promoted ! any of her friends who work at this parlor that she practices tattooing, gossips with, or goes out to party with after her shift.
the unlikely duo (taken): it's hard to imagine abril in an established friend group, but i'd love to see her befriending someone with a sunnier personality! perhaps they bond over a shared love for art <3
shop owner (taken): someone to commission her to do street art on their building for tourists
queer girl romance (taken) <3: abril's queerness is going to be something that she is going to explore now in the city (denile is a river in egypt). i'd love for there to be a queer woman or nb person in her life that she secretly adores and just can't seem to figure out why (she needs them biblically) .

ABOUT:
Antonio was born to Hector and Maria Lopez, being the oldest of three. His mother met his father when his father moved from Mexico to the United States. His parents had moved him to Cape May to get as far away from Mexico as they could. When Maria became pregnant, Hector panicked at first because he just worked as a bag boy. He ended up meeting Nora's mother by saving her life. She offered him a job and he took it.
Soon the family was doing very well for themselves, his mother became a full time mom and his father went to work for the Salverg Thorson family. When his mother had his brother and sister, Antonio promised to always protect them and take care of them. He did very well in school, doing football and basketball. His father did his best to attend every game when Antonio was younger.
The older he got the more he slightly rebelled against his father. Dropping the sports that he played, started hanging out with the wrong type of people. He fought with is father all the time over his father's job, and not being there for his own family. But he still protected his mother and siblings. Barely graduating high school but he somehow managed to do so.
With his father on his case about getting a job, Antonio ended up signing up for the Army. That shocked his whole family including his father, but a couple days later he was saying goodbye and heading to boot camp. Which was brutely but he somehow managed to make it and then he got deployed and went without second thoughts.
He ended up doing a couple of tours, but during his last tour, Antonio and his unit was hit while they were out on patrol. There had been a bombing and the survivors including himself were taken. Getting kidnapped by the enemy, they strung them up and tried to get them to talk. Antonio learned the language over time because of how long they were kidnapped for. But at that time, he barely understood it. Just knew they wanted something and were willing to kill to get it. Antonio had stopped counting days, after a year of being held captive. By that time, it was just a couple of his unit members and himself left.
After three years, of being tortured by these men, Antonio came up with a plan. He expressed his plan, to the others. He made a promise to his friend, Melissa that he would get her home to her children and husband. But he failed, she got raped and killed. Now being the only one left, Antonio started to give up hope of ever being saved. The torture continued throughout the next years, he was starved, cut, and beaten, he barely even knew what was going on anymore or what year it was. He didn’t remember when he broke free but he had and as soon as he got a weapon in his hand, he was killing again, not caring who it was. He just wanted to go home, and be free again. Antonio was found a couple hours later by American soldiers.
Antonio got home, and felt like everything changed. His family had declared him dead, due to how long he had been gone. But after he got back, they were relieved and so was he. He was just glad to be home. His father ended up getting killed when he was protecting Nora's mother, that was when Antonio decided to join her ranks, working his way up to being her right hand man and bodyguard. Nowadays Antonio is just doing his best but sometimes that is hard for him to do, he is dealing with PTSD, survivors guilt and so much more. He tries his best to work through all of it, including going to meetings at the V.A. and working for Nora. That seems to help him a lot.

Bad Romance Continues: A Collection of One Shots, Drabbles and Mini Series
Bad Romance the series is marked as complete, but the one shots and miniseries seem to be never ending. So I thought they needed their own master list. New chapters will be placed in order they occurred in the timeline, not order they were written.
To read the original series click here: Bad Romance
For all my other stuff click here: Main Master List
Tumblr media
Before the events of Bad Romance:
Beginnings: A Max and Riley story. Beginning of the social season with a flashback to the night they met. Takes place before the events in Bad Romance. Features Liam. 🍋🍋🍋
First Impressions, Max: This is Max's POV from the same night Riley remembers in Beginnings, the night they met. Six months prior to the events of Bad Romance, in New York. 🍋🍋🍋
Concurrent with the events of Bad Romance:
Siobhan: Riley seduces the palace kitchen supervisor and uses her against Liam. Takes place at some point prior to chapter 6, "Busted".🍋🍋🍋
Solace: A Liam and Max story. Their first sexual encounter with each other without Riley present. Concurrent with Chapter 26, "An Audacious Proposal". 🍋🍋🍋
The King's Punishment: A Three Shot. Completely gratuitous sex to be honest, but there is an emotional pay off at the end. Takes place before Chapter 29, Valtoria. 🍋🍋🍋
After the end of Bad Romance:
Birthday Spanking: Riley delivers a little something extra for Max's birthday. 🍋🍋🍋
United Front: What happens when an old flame shows up claiming Drake is the father of her child? A Drabble Me This Story.
Coming to Terms: Liam and Drake work together to get Bradshaw to open the palace doors.
Progress: Takes place just after Ellie's birth.

Thro(n)es of Passion: The follow up to Homerun. Takes place later that night when Liam, Max, and Drake comply with Riley's request for a foursome. 🍋🍋🍋
Thro(n)es of Passion Part 2: Riley's request is granted.
Unlikely Alliances Part 1: Three years after the end of Bad Romance. Ellie is two and still an only child. Liam's indiscretions come to light in a contrived way. Who is out to sabotage the king? 🍋🍋🍋
Unlikely Alliances Part 2 (Closure): Drake travels to New York to uncover the saboteur.
Interview: Madeleine tries to prep Riley and Liam for an interview with the press. They keep getting side tracked.
Run Away: Riley is having a hell of a week. Rashad wants her to take a break and run away with him.
San Antonio: A Drake and Riley story. Precise placement in the timeline is ambiguous. I don't even know. 🍋🍋🍋
Disney Adventure: A six chapter miniseries. The gang gets stuck in LA and decided to take an ill advised trip to Disneyland. Nine years after the end of Bad Romance. Ellie is 8, Xander 5, Jax 2 and Riley is pregnant with Jace.
Wild Ride: Disney Adventure follow-up, so technically is before the events of Bad Romance, but I felt it belonged here since Disney Adventure spawned it. Here is the beginning of Leo's weekend with Riley. 🍋🍋🍋
Drake's Amazon Cart: A hopefully funny little drabble about what's in Drake Walker's amazon cart. Placement in timeline is ambiguous but Jax is at least old enough to fish.
Drake's Perfect Day: This takes place immediately after Drake's Amazon Cart, grounding them both in the timeline when Jace is nine months old. Just days or weeks before the beginning of Bad Parenting.
Dads on the Edge: Riley is down with the flu and the guys have to step up and wrangle the kids without her at a very public event. This was written for @txemrn Father's Day fic idea 2022. Ellie is 12, Xander 9, Jax 6, Jace 4 and Charlotte 2. Leo's son Hudson is 16.
Whose Your Daddy: The answer to Charlottes paternity. Takes places within a few months of Dad's on the Edge.
Thankful: The first Thanksgiving after the paternity test.
Drabbles:
Blocked: A woman Drake met in a bar decides to message him.
Group Chat: Max sends a picture into the wrong chat.
Spider Drake: Riley and Max are scared of a spider.

“You're just as special as everyone else in this family.”
FULL NAME: Julieta Madrigal FACE CLAIM: Angie Cepeda PRONOUNS: She/Her BIRTHDAY: July 23, 1971 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
Julieta Matilde Madrigal might have been an artist if life hadn’t had other plans. She was born the eldest of triplets, and despite being only minutes older, she took her role as eldest very seriously. Or maybe it was the levels of accountability that she was held to. As a child, Julieta considered herself crafty in the artistic sense. She enjoyed adding artful touches to her meals, even as far back as when she first engaged in her sorcery. Though, truth be told, she could also be a bit crafty in the cunning sense when conspiring with her siblings. Still, it was harder for Julieta to get away with it. Before Isabela, there was an original senorita perfecta. And it was Julieta.
From her early years, Julieta was aware that her magic could be beautiful. How could healing hurt ever be considered bad? However, that’s not what the world around her thought. Magic, where she was from in Colombia, was associated with darkness. Julieta clung to her light and held close to her parents, sister, and brother. She clung tight to her mother and sister and brother when the time came that they had to flee their home and start anew. Truth be told, it was hard for Julieta to remember the night they left. Even the subsequent weeks had turned fuzzy over time.
With their new life in Avalor, Julieta threw herself into her usefulness. Even at the age of fifteen, she threw herself into her purpose as a healer. Contributing to her community was how she felt like she belonged. It’s hard for children to move away from home even in the best circumstances. Like she had clung to her family and her magic in Colombia, Julieta clung to her community and healer-identity in Avalor.
Such actions eventually led her to spending her summer breaks during university traveling and aiding in relief efforts. Everything from earthquakes to hurricanes to high tides. Julieta wanted to be a part of all of it, if not going herself, helping organize resources. Keeping herself busy was just a part of being Julieta Madrigal.
It’s during one of these trips that Julieta met Agustín. Different from her in so many ways, and yet a complement to herself in many more. Julieta and Agustín’s brief romance was just that to Julieta at first. Brief. However, he surprised her by transferring universities, arriving right at her doorstep.
A marriage, three children, and a relocation across the ocean later, Julieta still marvels at the life she’s found herself in. She marvels, also, at the life she’s left behind. Julieta tries her best to take each day at a time. While she’s horribly prone to looking back, Julieta is just as hopeful to look forward. Who knows what’s next? Certainly not her if she doesn’t reach out for it.
✓ Nurturing, family-oriented, can heal you with a meal ;)
✖ Self-sacrificing, overworked, worrisome

Do you think Mirabel had a Quinceanera?
No because just think, she was always pushed aside and forgotten so what if?
What if her birthdays never were the big parties that her sisters and cousins got but she was so sure that her 15th would be different?
What if she spend weeks, no months painstakingly making a dress that she was sure Abuela would approve of?
What if during every meal leading up to her birthday she waited with baited breathe hoping, praying that discussion of her birthday would be brought up?
What if each time she, or her parents tried to bring it up they were talked over?
What if she held out hope until the day of, only for the breakfast announcments to be all about Antonio’s birthday coming up in only a few short weeks, and the preperations needed to make it a grand day?
What if?

Antonio was nervous. Really nervous. It was his baby's, Mirabel, birthday. Her fifth birthday to be exact. It had already been five years since she was given back to him. And of course, per the Madrigal tradition, she was given the chance at a gift. But that wasn't what worried Antonio. What worried him was how it would go. While he wasn't there the first time, he certainly remembers his own and the hushed stories of Mirabel's first one.
Antonio paced the hall. It was almost time. It wasn't even his ceremony and he was terrified. He suddenly was stopped in his tracks when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking behind him, he saw his parents.
"Antonio, you have to relax," Felíx said, holding his son still. "It's going to go fine."
"But what if it doesn't? What if something happens, what if she's disappointed again or worse-" Antonio cut off when his mama grabbed him by his cheeks.
"Antonio. I promise you, nothing bad is going to happen. Me and your papá and the rest of the family will make sure of it," Pepa said. "Ok?" Antonio reluctantly nodded.
"Y-yeah. It'll be fine...right?" Antonio asked and his parents nodded.
"Right. Now. Me and your father are gonna go, alright? Mirabel should be down any minute," Pepa said and with that, both she and Felíx were off.
Antonio watched them walk off when he heard the familiar giggling of his daughter and the pitter-patter of her feet running down the hall. As if on cue, she came around the corner, with several birds surrounding her. They dispersed once she ran into his legs, almost taking him down.
"Papá!" Mirabel exclaimed, hugging Antonio's legs.
"Hola mija," Antonio smiled, picking her up and kissing her chubby cheek, eliciting a giggle from the girl. "Are you excited?"
"Uh-huh! I'm gonna get a super cool gift, like you!" Mirabel beamed, and Antonio laughed, but deep down? He was terrified. He only wanted his daughter to be happy. He couldn't bear to see her upset or sad.
The two talked and laughed for a bit longer when they heard Abuela begin talking. Antonio guided Mirabel towards the curtain, gently adjusting her bow and straightening her dress. With one last kiss and a pinch of cheeks, he moved to the side, and the curtains opened.
He watched Mirabel and...she just stood there. Her eyes were wide, and she fiddled with her dress. She looked around, backing up a bit. Antonio pushed at her feet, but she didn't budge. She looked at her papá and Antonio's breath hitched when she held her hand out, her eyes a silent plea.
Antonio debated on going out there. This was her day but...she had done the same for him a decade before. And there was no way he would leave his daughter to be terrified and alone. Taking a deep breath, he walked out, grabbing Mirabel's hand.
"Let's go get you your gift," Antonio whispered gently and Mirabel nodded, holding her father's arm.
As they made their way to the stairs, Antonio looked around. He could see the sympathy and pride in his family's eyes. It made him glad that they weren't so jumpy around the topic anymore. He was so scared that they would've been upset or worse, but instead? They were nothing but supportive. Sure, it took them a minute to get used to (especially his tia and tio) but they quickly got used to it. And they adored Mirabel all the same.
It didn't take long for them to get to the top of the stairs. Next thing Antonio knew, Mirabel was touching the candle and her bisabuela was smiling warmly at her as she asked her that fated question.
With a small nod, Mirabel stood in front of her door. She glanced at Antonio for reassurance, and he nodded, smiling at her. Mirabel nodded back. She pushed up her round glasses and wiped her hands dry. Antonio chuckled lowly. She still had sweaty hands, even now.
Everyone in Casita seemed to hold their breath as Mirabel touched the door knob. To everyone's relief (and maybe even surprise), the door glowed brightly, and some of it even seemed to reach Mirabel.
The light died down and everyone eagerly peeked at the door, wondering what gift was given to the girl who had already been denied once. There, on the door, was Mirabel. And there were butterfly wings attached to her back. As soon as her door had come to be and everyone saw her door, they looked towards Mirabel.
And there were wings. Butterfly wings. She was looking at them, and then they were fluttering. She looked at Antonio and she moved towards her, her feet leaving the ground every so often as she got used to her new wings. She fell into Antonio's arms and beamed up at him.
"I can fly!" Mirabel said, and Antonio blinked before picking her up.
"Yee," he laughed, lifting her into the air. Her wings fluttered much more confidently now. "Yes, you can!"
The crowd erupted into cheers, congratulations all around. Alma had the biggest smile she's had in a while as she turned to the crowd. "We have a new gift!"
The other Madrigals immediately moved upstairs, hugging Mirabel and pecking her cheeks with kisses. Even her little cousins were excited, even though they weren't quite old enough to understand like the older ones.
Antonio held Mirabel as she hovered slightly above the ground, already getting used to her new gift. He kissed her forehead, giving her a warm smile. "I'm so proud of you mija."
-----
I HOPE YOU LIKES THISSSSS RAHHHH
They're so cute, I miss them <333 and did you. Catch the parallel. Cause I did (i wrote it) 🦀🦀
It was longer than I initially planned but. That's not really a bad thing <33 fun fact, I've always been a sucker for long fics. Now slow burn, but just long fics in general. I like reading them <3
OK BYEEEEE o((*^▽^*))o

Encanto Star Children au
Tumblr media
What if Mirabel, Camilo, and Antonio were children of the stars? Like a star that had fallen from space and onto some lavender. Julieta used this lavender for some tea not knowing what had happened to it. A few months later Mirabel and Camilo were born. Julieta and Pepa were confused because they both had white "freckles" on their face. Mirabel's freckles were shaped Pisces star sign and Camilo's freckles were shaped by the Capricorn star sign. Not to mention that their hair was white
Both of their parents were very confused about what was going on. Why were their zodiac signs on their faces? they weren't quite sure what was going on. Felix and Agustin thought they were cheating but there's no one in the village with white hair nor did alma remember anyone from her time with white hair.
As time went on the white and hair zodiac freckles disappeared. The white hair and freckles started leaving when they were about a year old. On Camilo's birthday, he got white hair streaks and his zodiac freckles back. The same thing happened at Mirabel's birthday/ceremony.
The other Madrigals were very confused about this and still didn't know what to do. here's the exciting part, They both got gifts but these were different.
Star powers include:
understanding and speaking the star language
healing the injured with just a touch of the finger
being able to walk through/into walls, paintings, wallpaper
immortality
levitation
telepathy
Astral Cognition(the ability to gain knowledge and foresight through dreams and the stars)
Astral Projection( where one’s soul can briefly leave the body to see into others' dreams)
speaking to the deceased and animals(they can't understand animals but the animals can understand them and will obey every word)
They didn't know they had these powers. The only ones they were aware of is the star language, telepathy, healing, and talking to the deceased. They can see and talk to Pedro.
And that's when something, even more, exciting happened. In the dead of night, a woman named Ayla came down from the stars and introduced herself to the two and told them what happened. After that, she took them to her kingdom on the moon and Declared them Celestial royalty
When Antonio was about 5 months he started speaking the star language and Camilo and Mirabel would talk to him in the language as well. Everybody thought they were some kind of baby whisperer. But we all know that is not the case. Antonio's Zodiac freckles didn't disappear but some of his white hair stayed. It turned into streaks like his brother and Prima's hair.
On his birthday all three of their powers were aligned and they were even more powerful than before. And yes luna knows Antonio and the other adults weren't around she would take care of all three of them.
this au was inspired by @casitafallz
@gamerbearmira you want a take on this?
For everyone else, if you have any questions or thoughts ask away! it helps with worldbuilding

Consider..... post-canon madrigals looking through the old photo albums together 🥺👀
"So," Bruno laughed nervously, rubbing his hand up and down his arm. "What did I miss?"
And that was how Bruno found himself in what was once the front lawn of the Casita, Antonio on his knee while the rest of the family rooted through the rubble.
"What're they doing?" He muttered, causing the little boy to shrug in reply. It was amazing how quickly Antonio had warmed up to his tío, but Bruno certainly wasn't going to complain. He was a great kid.
"Here's one!" Luisa exclaimed, waving a white book over her head. "Looks like Mirabel's got one as well!"
"One here too," Dolores said, the purple-bound book in her hands covered in dust.
"And here!" Isabela chimed in.
It wasn't until Pepa unearthed a blue one, did Bruno realize what they were searching for. Photo albums. From all the time he'd spent hiding away in the walls.
Sure, he had heard bits and pieces of dinner conversation, but he knew he had missed so much. Birthdays, holidays, anniversaries. He'd missed his own fiftieth birthday, for God's sake.
Once the family was satisfied with their findings, they returned to the grass and sat beside Bruno and Antonio.
"This one was taken when I turned seven," Camilo pointed out, a birthday hat perched on his head, the camera caught him morphed somewhere between himself and Isabela.
"And this one is when I turned seven," Mirabel said, pointing to a different shot, where she scowled as Camilo tried to blow out the candles on her cake.
"This one is from Pepa and Félix's anniversary…" Julieta murmured, her fingers moving gently over the photos, a small smile on her face.
"And here's when Pepa made it tornado just because Félix complimented her that very same day," Agustín teased, chuckling at the state of Félix's hair, blowing wildly in the heavy winds.
"If you had heard the compliment, you would have tornadoed too," Pepa said, scowling as her cheeks turned a bright pink.
Bruno half expected some sort of raincloud to appear overhead from the ribbing, Pepa had never taken well to teasing; but he quickly remembered that the magic was gone, as evidenced by Mirabel blowing Casita dust off of another album.
He didn't mind though, as he watched his family laugh and point out different things in the photos. No magic could ever replace a moment like this. He hadn't realized how much he had missed.
"Hey, here's one from my Gift Ceremony!" Antonio leapt from Bruno's lap, grabbing the album and holding it out for everyone to see.
"Antonio, that was only three days ago," Camilo said, rolling his eyes. "Where's one from my Ceremony?"
"But Tío Bruno hasn't seen it," Antonio handed the album to the uncle in question, and Bruno took it, looking at each face individually.
Seeing them all after ten years was rather shocking, honestly. Julieta now had a considerable amount of gray hair, Pepa had wrinkles (although he daren't ever mention it), Agustín had grown his mustache in again, and Félix had put on a few pounds around the middle. Even his own mother looked different. Older, more tired.
And that was saying nothing about the kids. It was amazing how much of a difference a decade could make. The last time he'd seen Luisa he could still pick her up, and now she was twice his size and three times his weight in pure muscle.
Bruno scanned the picture, doing a quick head count. Something was missing… no, someone.
"Hey kid, where were you?" Bruno leaned over to Mirabel, who was occupying herself looking through her parents' wedding photos. "They didn't make you take the picture, did they?"
"No," Mirabel said swiftly, flipping a page.
"What are you talking about, of course Mirabel is in it," His mother snatched the album from his hands and Bruno watched as her eyes scanned the page, and could see the moment she realized. "Oh, Mirabel…"
"What? It's nothing," Mirabel shrugged.
"No it's not," Julieta said, crawling over to sit by her youngest daughter. "That was a family photo, you were supposed to be in it!"
"It's fine, Mamá!" Mirabel insisted. "Ew, are these honeymoon pictures?"
Camilo tried reaching for the album, but Agustín's hands were quicker. "That's enough of that one, thank you."
"Wait, Mira isn't in a lot of these," Antonio commented, flipping through a few pages. There were individual photos of each of the kids; Isabela wearing a crown made of daisies, Camilo contorting his face into funny expressions, but very few of just Mirabel.
Even some of the group shots excluded her, or she was off to the side.
"Mirabel, I hadn't realized…" Julieta began to flip through a few pages, and Bruno saw tears pool in the corners of her eyes. "We didn't mean to exclude you."
"I understand, I'm not that interesting," Mirabel said with another shrug. "Hey, here's one of me!"
Bruno winced as he recognized it as from the night he left.
From her failed Gift Ceremony.
Was that really what it all came down to? Had Mirabel really fallen through the cracks so much that nobody even noticed if she was missing from a family photo?
Maybe his leaving hadn't protected her as much as he thought it would.
"I don't ever want to hear you say that again," Agustín said, wrapping Mirabel in his arms and squeezing her until she giggled and blushed red.
"Me either," Julieta agreed, wrapping her arms around the two of them and plastering kisses all over her face.
"Hey, quit it," Mirabel protested, squirming in their grasp.
She'd almost gotten away when Isabela joined in, followed by Luisa, and Antonio.
Before Bruno could process fully what was happening, the entire family was suddenly circled around his youngest niece, encapuring her in a giant group hug, whoever was closest to her face pressing kisses onto the available space.
"Get over here, Bruno!" Félix said, waving an arm. "Come show Mirabel how much you missed her!"
Bruno wasn't about to deny that. He had missed her. He'd missed all of them.
He didn't even have a chance to hesitate as Pepa grabbed his arm, and pulled him into the embrace.
It was cramped, and hot, and everyone smelled of sweat and rubble… but it was soft, and warm, and felt like home.
He'd almost forgotten what it was like to get a hug from the Family Madrigal.
"I think we need another picture," Antonio announced, as the hug slowly eased up and broke apart, Mirabel's glasses crooked and hair disheveled from being the center of the heap. "One with everybody."
"That's the best idea I've heard all day, kid," Bruno said, scooping his nephew into his arms, as Dolores retrieved the camera - shockingly still functioning after the house collapsed.
They all crammed together, tight enough that Bruno could feel Isabela's elbow digging into his ribs and Agustín stepping on his foot - but he didn't mind. Not in the slightest.
"Okay everyone," Dolores said, as she set up the timer and quickly moved in front of the camera, squeezing between her mother and grandmother. "Say 'La Familia Madrigal!"
"¡La Familia Madrigal!"

happy birthday mi vida!
camilo x gen!reader
word count: 1.2k
request? nope
warning(s): tooth rotting fluff, some angst, not beta-d we die like abuelo
summary: it's your birthday and the madrigals have something planned up their sleeve.
a/n: decided to write this really quickly cause it's my birthday today and i wanted to give you guys something cute too as a treat! to those of you have requested a fic please be patient i'm writing them all!
Tumblr media
"You seriously don't remember what today is?" you asked Dolores as the two of you were helping carry some crates around the town.
"It's a normal Thursday from what I remember" she let out quietly, looking around rather suspiciously as you made your way to the town square. If you hadn't been too absorbed in your own thoughts you would've heard the little squeak she let out and the slight bulging of her eyes.
With a sigh, you dropped the crate down next to a fruit stand and wiped your hands on your clothes. You looked over to Dolores once again as she tried avoiding eye contact with you, looking everywhere else but your direction.
With another heavy sigh you walked towards the bridge where you were needed next, a deep frown and furrowed eyebrows adorning your face.
Today was your birthday and literally no one had remembered. Not even your own parents which really unusual as they would have been the first people to celebrate it with you. You had asked everyone in your family about it and got the same answer of, "What are you talking about?". Luisa was the first Madrigal you had encountered today and she, too, said nothing to you about your birthday. Maybe out of your frustration, however, you had missed how her right eye twitched nervously right after. Mirabel was the second Madrigal you had encountered and the one that shocked you the most. Mira was known to be caring and compassionate so it really surprised you that she too forgot it was your birthday.
Now Dolores had forgotten too and you had gotten sadder and sadder as the day went by. You only had one hope left, and that was your boyfriend Camilo. There was no way he would have forgotten his s/o's birthday. Right?
"Mi vida what are you talking about? Today is nothing special, just a boring old Thursday. Unless we have a celebration or a festival I don't know about!" he said to you in the form of a townswoman, cradling the real townswoman's baby.
"Are you serious Camilo? You really don't remember?!"
"Remember what?" Camilo shifted back into himself accidently from how nervous he felt. He couldn't ruin it now, not when the whole family had tried so hard throughout the day to keep it a secret.
"You know what whatever I'm not in the mood to see your face now" you stomped off back towards your house with tears pricking your eyes. Camilo had forgot your birthday. You couldn't believe it. Were you that insignificant to everyone?
As you were walking away, you had missed how Camilo's faced grew into a sad frown, shifting from himself to Abuela, Mirabel, Dolores and back into the townswoman.
The day was slowly ending as the sun was now slowly lowering itself, creating an orange and pink hue on the sky. You were curled up in your bed, face down on your pillow as you wanted this horrible day to end already.
You heard a knock on your front door, but you didn't have the motivation to go down and open the door. Your parents weren't home yet and you were all alone in the house. After a few seconds, you heard the knocking intensify.
With a loud groan you knocked the bedding off of you and grumpily made your way downstairs towards the door. The scowl on your face quickly turned into a small smile at the sight in front of you.
Little Antonio was standing there with a parrot on his right shoulder and small present box in his hands. He looked up at you with bright eyes and a wide smile as he said, "Happy birthday Y/N! Here's your present from me!" He extended his arms up towards you as far as he could reach and gestured for you to take the present.
You teared up as you kneeled down in front of the boy and hugged him tightly. "Thank you my little Tonito! Thank you!" He laughed and hugged you back as tight as you had, the parrot eventually joining in too.
You took the present and placed it inside on the sofa as you gestured Antonio to come in to the house, but he shook his head.
"Follow me!" he grabbed your hand and started to drag you through the town towards Casita.
When the two of you had reached the - suspiciously - dark Casita, he whistled and two parrots blindfolded you making you let out a yelp of surprise.
"Come come come!" he shouted enthusiastically and motioned for you to follow after him in the Casita, which obviously you couldn't see. The enthusiasm alone was enough for you to follow him.
With small hesitant shuffles you made it passed the entrance and into the clearing. The room was dead silent as the only you could hear was your own - now nervous - breathing. You reached out your arms around you, trying to scan the area for anything that could give you a clue as to what was happening, but found nothing.
"Antonio what's going on?" you said a little impatiently as there was zero movement happening around you. With a quick motion of your hand, you ripped the blindfold off and looked around the dark room. The only thing that you could make out was the outline of the room, some freshly adorned vines and flowers placed on the pillars and a large paper that hung at the very end of the room.
"Tonito?-" you had started but was cut off by the lights suddenly opening. You squinted at the harsh light and made to cover your face when you felt something hug your legs.
You opened your eyes and saw the whole Madrigal family as well as your own parents wearing party hats and blowing confetti at you.
"Surprise!" they all yelled in synchronization and you were left gobsmacked. Quite literally. You hadn't expected this at all. There was that big paper that you saw before, but now it had the phrase "Happy Birthday Y/N!" written on it.
Abuela moved to hug you first as she wished you a very happy and joyful birthday. Everyone proceeded to do the same and now you were only left with Camilo.
"I'm sorry I didn't wish you earlier amor, I just wanted to keep the surprise a secret" he smiled sheepishly, lightly scratching the back of his neck as he avoided eye contact.
"In the beginning you did really upset me Milo. But I guess you're forgiven now." You said playfully as you went to hug him. He hugged you back tightly and lightly kissed your cheek.
"Whose idea was this?" you asked as you made your way to the rest of the family members.
"It was actually Camilo's idea! He came up with the whole 'we will ignore Y/N and make them believe that we don't remember about their birthday so they'll feel sad and then plan a surprise party for them so they can be happy'." Mirabel said, gesturing with her hands as she explained what had happened.
You laughed and went to hug Camilo again, pulling away shortly after and kissing him ever so gently.
"Happy birthday again mi amor." he whispered as he leaned in to plant another gentle kiss on your lips.
When you thought that today would have been the worst birthday of your life, it turned out to be one of the best you've ever had! All because of la familia Madrigal and your wonderful boyfriend Camilo.

In your Cocoon AU (which is good and great), how's the temperature looking on the kids' gifts? I know you said they don't have doors, so I assume they'll get them when they're five, but now the family has the hindsight required to maybe not think that these gifts are the best thing for their children in a lot of ways? Dolores' hearing, for example, probably wasn't an easy thing to deal with for her... At the very least, are they gonna try and see if the have the option to wait longer?
The family has a lot of emotions surrounding the gifts, some of them do hope the kids will be spared and the gifts won’t come back, however they know that it’s entirely possible they will come back.
There’s also the fact the kids DO remember their gifts. At Least a little bit. So they can’t avoid the topic when Luisa starts trying to lift her parents, Isabela starts flexing her fingers and whispering “Flower!” to herself and looking disappointed when nothing happens and Antonio trying to talk to animals in town. They do prepare the kids for their fifth birthday, because they don’t want them to be too freaked out if/when their gifts come back.
When it comes time to explain the gifts and doors they sit the kids down for a talk. They ask them how much they understand about the miracle and gifts. It isn’t 100% clear how much they know about their past just yet, they aren’t even five yet after all.
Their mama’s give them a little run down on what could happen on their birthday, they tell them all about the magic doors they could and the gifts that accompany them. However they try to make it very clear from the start that getting gifts and doors is only a possibility and won’t make them any more or less of a Madrigal. They make a list of rules about the gifts and how others should treat them and their gifts. If some of them don’t get gifts they are all to treat each other equally, don’t let other people push them to use their gifts for something they don’t want to do, the sort of things they wish they’d known to talk about the first time around.
When the day rolls around and six doors make an appearance they know they have to make this as non-traumatising of an experience as possible. They can’t hide the doors from the kids but they can make sure no one in town finds out. They don’t hold a big celebration, this is a moment all for their kids, they let them pick out a door each and one by one they let them go through. The parents make sure the other kids are extra quiet when it comes to Dolores' turn of course, they don’t want to completely shock her this time. And good news! Everyone including Mirabel gets a door and a gift, nobody gets left behind. I’m going to leave her power up to interpretation however because I can’t actually decide what gift to give her at the moment woops.

Wrath of the Madrigals
⚠️ tw implied referenced r*pe, abuser is slightly descriptive in an attempt to hurt the family more, self harm angst.
WE DONT TALK ABOUT HOW BRUNO AND CAMILO ARE READY TO KILL
Except we do- cause he family
DO NOT READ IF ITS TRIGGERING ⚠️
Bruno stayed with Mirabel the rest of the night. She was adamant that she’d like to get through today first. After the party she’ll talk.
The family may not understand fully but they all agreed that Señor Rodriguez would not be near Mirabel. Not at all. Dolores actively listened for where he was, Pepa and Felix playing background bodyguards for Bruno and Mirabel.
Camilo had stayed near Delores on the off chance they needed someone fast and Isabella, Julietta, and Luisa were trying to be convinced by Agustin to follow Mirabel’s wishes and not just take the man out to ‘talk.’
Antonio wanted to stay with Mirabel too. But… he knew that whatever it was that happened… she might have written it down. As much as he wondered why, Antonio and Mirabel did still share a room for years.
On days she was sad, she brought out a small leather bound book and would write in it. “Pepita,” he calls to one of his uncle Bruno’s rats. “Can you help me?”
-
Mirabel was clinging to him. It was kind of weird. Especially after years of no contact. But he can deal with it. This is his niece. And she needs him.
“You used to do this a lot before.. well everything.” Alma says.
“Mama!” And “Abuela?” Came out, one in embarrassment as he knew what she was gonna do- the other confused.
“If you had a bad dream or someone was mean to you, we all knew where to look.” Alma explains. “It didn’t matter where he was- he could have been in the middle of a vision and you would just climb right into his ruana and latch on.” She lets out a laugh and one of the older villagers joins in.
“Ah, I remember those days. Bruno and his little leech are back, eh?” The man teases with a grin.
“Mama, why are you doing this! Tom, don’t encourage her!” Bruno complains even as a small smile takes place when he hears Mirabel giggle.
Whatever happened would never, ever happen again. His niece deserved the world and he will never let her down again. This, this is something Bruno swears to himself as the birthday girl starts asking more about what she was like when she was younger.
-
Antonio, with the help of Pepita and Casita snuck into Mirabel’s room. “It’s a small book- it has a purple ribbon with a butterfly on the end.” He is gonna help. He’s gonna keep his Mirabel safe.
-
Dolores gasps and Camilo looks over to see the most frightening look on his sisters face. “Get. The. Family. Now.” She growled out each word. Mariano, who had come over to say hi, and Camilo both immediately hop to it. As the two rush off to collect the family they hear, “that bastard is dead.”
-
Mariano heads over to his ex and lets her know that Delores needs them.
-
Camilo tells his parents and heads over to Abuela, Bruno, and Mirabel just as Antonio races down with a book and to the three as well.
-
“Oh, please, Mijo, she had you wrapped around her finger.” Alma says and leans in to whisper, conspiringly, “you got him to play dress up with you on four different occasions. I have pictures.”
“No- no you don’t. Mirabel, don’t listen to her.”
“Of course Tio! Now, about these pictures?”
“Wha- Mirabel! Traitor!”
“Maaa, Mijo, you were so pretty when she did your make up.”
“MAMA!”
-
“Abuela! Tio, Delores needs-!” Camilo starts as Antonio runs over, waving the book around and sobbing.
“He hurt her!” The five year old wailed. “He’s a bad man!”
-
Mirabel stopped. “Antonio-? Is that? Antonio give me back my journal!”
“No! He hurt you! They need to know! You wrote it yourself! That it hurt!”
“Antonio! Please!” The girl started reaching for the book when Camilo plucks it out of his brother’s hands and opens it. “Camilo! Stop! That’s an invasion of privacy!” She cries as she moves closer.
The only reason she doesn’t get further is because Bruno placed his hand on her arm and pulled her close. Not at all because the stress of people reading her journal- the one that had everything in it- made her legs feel so weak that she nearly fell onto the floor. Nope. Not. At. All.
Her primo’s face grows dark and he throws the book where Alma just barely catches it and charges towards the man in question. The man she wrote about in her book.
-
“Wait- what- mama, what’s going on?” Bruno asks as Pepa’s youngest attaches himself to him and Julietta’s youngest.
“I- I don’t…” She mumbles in response as she opens the journal up herself. “The party is canceled.” The older woman barks. “Casita, please escort the guests off the property.”
The house complies.
“Casita, keep Mirabel and Antonio safe.” She commands again, heading over to where she knew the rest of the familia would be. Bruno feels when the two are taken away from him and Mirabel’s screams to just stop. That it doesn’t matter anymore. That it’s okay.
He follows his mother.
-
Rodriguez is pressed into Casita’s wall, covered in vines and bruises and blood coming from his nose and mouth. Camilo is fighting against some vines, hands bloodied and screaming at Isabella to let him go.
Bruno seems to realize that everyone except for him knows what’s happened as everyone is staring at the man with pure loathing.
He’s about to ask again when he hears the man let out a crazed laugh.
“She called for you, you know. The bitch who hears everything and yet never heard her.” Rodriguez rasps out. “I always wondered, did you really hate her so much? She called for every single one of you- at least when her mouth was-” Bruno was honestly surprised by himself. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see one of Casita’s mirrors. His eyes are glowing, blood the.. the vile thing spit up on him after he punched it in it’s gut.
That being said, how dare this fucker think he could talk about his niece in such a way while he was here.
Tomorrow, they would all gather around Mirabel, with so many apologies and promises and spend the next few months ensuring nobody came near her.
The next day though, only those who were absolutely necessary would know why the town was missing a person.
Some of them quite actually adored Mirabel and thought the Madrigals should have been harsher.
Whether it was Isabella and forcing them away with her vines, Luisa threatening to toss them, the fact that if Pepa suddenly would start storming, and more the entirety of Encanto knew something happened.
It may not be perfect. It may not heal her. And it would take time. But when Bruno finally went back upstairs to Mirabel who gripped him into a tight hug after they tell her. Crying but this time from relief that it was over. He hugs her back as the family joins in and whispers to her.
Whispers every single thing and promise he could. That he would make it up to her. He knows he’s not the only one as he hears the sobs and whispers from the others too.
He may not be able to guarantee a perfect ending, but he can make sure that she won’t be hurt like that again. All of them will.

Hi! I was wondering if you could do some Romano + Prussia x royal reader (separate) headcannons? I'm a sucker for a good forbidden romance and would be happy to see what you want to do with it. Thank you!
Yes, of course! Sorry for the kinda late response--I got carried away writing other things. What a coincidence that I've been doing a lot of exploring in fantasy! The reader is referred to as she/her.
Forbidden Romance Headcanons - Prussia and S. Italy
Prussia - The earnest pickpocket and sheltered princess
Unfortunately, Gilbert is on the wrong side of history. As an albino, he's been an outcast ever since he was born. In an age of superstition and class divide, his parents had no problem abandoning an extra mouth to feed. Especially when they were a demon with magical powers. Left to fend for himself as a baby, he only ever survived thanks to the generosity of an old neighbor. When they passed away due to old age, he had to get on by himself on the streets. Stealing, lying, whatever it takes to get some quick cash. And he's been doing it ever since he was five.
He loved fairytales ever since he was a kid. His guardian always told him these stories before bedtime, after all. They said it was good luck to give the princess a flower, and he remembered this a few years later during the royal parade in town. Pushing through the crowd of onlookers, he held out a small dandelion hoping you would take it. Before the guards could swat him away, you took the flower with a smile. All you remembered from that time was a small and dirty face gleaming up at you. And, of course, a pair of striking red eyes you would never forget.
In his adolescence, he became a thief with quick hands. It wasn't until he took on the most dangerous job of all did he make himself a public enemy. Stealing the royal family's jewels. And he would've gotten away with it if he wasn't forced to take a detour through the princess's bedroom. Unbeknownst to him, you were wide awake. Immediately, you recognized him as the little boy from that day. Without thinking, you hid him in your wardrobe until the guards left. That was the start of a strange friendship forged between two people from two worlds--a dirt-poor criminal and the well-loved princess of a thriving kingdom.
He visits you from time to time by climbing up the side of the castle. When he first did it, you practically throttled him by his collar, screaming, “Do you have a death wish? They'll throw you to the lions if you get caught!”. He simply responds with, “The awesome me never gets caught! That's why I'm here, ja?” Soon, this becomes routine until you learn to trust him.
Gilbert loves gloating about his adventures as a street rat, whether it's about singlehandedly beating up gangs of bullies or outrunning the palace guards. As a sheltered person of royalty, his stories reflect experiences alien to you. But it opens your eyes to things you've never seen, and it's very fascinating.
If he's not telling grossly exaggerated anecdotes of his greatness, he'll bring in board games and cards he “borrowed” from his friends. You've never played with them before as your parents deemed them unrefined. It fills him with pride to see you enjoying yourself so much, especially when he's teaching you how to play.
You don't go out very often, so he always brings back little trinkets and souvenirs. When you found out he stole them all, you would hit him on the head and tell him off. “Where did you get these from? Stealing and giving these to the princess--do you know how stupid that sounds?” Then, you would pinch his cheek until he tears up and admits his wrongs. “I-I thought you would like them, okay? I wanted to give them to you as a present...” The next day, you would accompany him to the shops he robbed and pay the owners back.
He gets upset and embarrassed when he realizes those gifts aren't gifts at all. Not when you paid for them yourself! One of the ways he shows affection is through giving gifts, but that unfortunately clashes with not having money. So he's eager to make something out of himself, even if he has to work as a bottom feeder and face unfair treatment for what he looks like. When you find out, his boss gets one hell of a time dealing with you. After that, he uses whatever small amount he earned to buy something for you.
As he grows out of his old habits, he becomes more honest. In fact, he's so determined to prove himself that he shows up one day with a homemade board game scribbled out on a spare piece of parchment. He's nervous and twiddling his fingers, and that's when you know you have to help him get back onto his feet. He's so touched by your kindness that he shows you a secret he's been hiding forever--he can do magic. It's one of his skills that let him become so good at stealing in the past.
After some practice to touch up his abilities, you try convincing your parents to let him work in the palace as an all-rounder. With the magic dancing in his fingertips, there's nothing he can't do. He has a green thumb, good reflexes, and the horses in the stables listen to him better than the caretaker! He can't forget that you encouraged him to let go of his doubts and previous identity as a petty thief. There's nobody in the world he looks up to more.
On the night of your eighteenth birthday, he's invited to a ball to celebrate. Once again, he finds himself anxious to see you in your dress, especially when he's quite glammed up himself with his suit and hair slicked back. While you teach him how to dance, he tells you he looks ridiculous. But you think otherwise and make it explicit. That's when Gilbert realizes he's completely smitten with you. He embarks on another journey to improve himself until he thinks he deserves you.
South Italy - The plebeian pâtissier and renegade royal
War has ravaged the kingdom and eaten into the state's reserves, leaving inflation rates at an all-time high. The suffering middle and working-class take it up to their rulers in a coup d'état, killing the king and queen. And now, they're searching for the princess amidst the chaos of an ungoverned dominion. Romano couldn't be more indifferent to such a cause, only ever caring about putting food on the table. He works day and night helping out his family's bakery, making what he can to get by. However, he's forced to take a side when he finds a girl on his doorstep on the verge of starvation.
Unable to turn away someone in need, he nurses you back to health. However, he does so with spite, wondering to himself why he has to give what little he has left to a princess. When you feel better after a few days, he's eager to send you off but changes his mind as you leave. Romano can't bear to let you face certain death, or worse, knowing how bitter the townspeople are about the unpopular war. So he welcomes you back with a sharp sigh with his head turned away. “Alright, alright, you can stay. Now stop making that pathetic face, you spoilt principessa--it's depressing.”
He relays a few house rules as conditions for keeping you around. You have to help him with chores. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, everything. Considering you always had someone doing those tasks for you, you're hopeless at it. He'll swat your hand and show you how to do things right with an annoyed scowl. “No, no, no, no, no! You're doing it all wrong. This is how you do it. What do they even teach you in that palace, huh? Books? Maths? Books about maths? Well, they won't keep you alive, you know!”
Because he's so observant and strict, he's a good teacher, and soon, you get the hang of everything. Before, he had to open his mouth to correct you every few seconds, but now, he can just watch you do his work with his arms crossed. It's a little demeaning to have someone watch your every move, but inside, he's relieved you're finally fitting in and not a complete waste of his time and resources. In reality, he never wanted to send you off and hoped he could just handle an extra mouth to feed. Not that he'll ever tell you.
When you're out and about, he makes you wear a cloak to hide your identity. When he's forced to interact with people, he'll hold you close and play everything off without arousing suspicion. Even if your hood falls off, he won't react--he's screaming inside in panic, but he's a great actor when he needs to be. You're totally not the princess, just a crazy similar doppelganger. The cloak is there so that people don't make a fuss. When they leave, he'll turn to you and scream how much of an idiot you are. But really, he was just worried to death--and you have a feeling he was. So you hug it out and leave him cussing with a red face.
As you two grow closer, his cousin Antonio notices how much he cares about you despite his efforts to hide it. It's a problem. He approaches him and warns that if people found out he was hiding the princess, he would get killed with her. Romano heats up and screams, telling him that he already knew what he got into the second he let you into his home. When he's asked why he's still keeping you around, he responds with, “It's not fair that her parents fucked up, and she has to face the consequences. Just like how I never wanted to run this stupid bakery--I wanted to be a painter, not burn my hands in the kitchen all day!”
Unbeknownst to him, you overhear the conversation. The next morning, he discovers that you're gone and loses his head. While he's screaming and crying, he's swarmed with the possibilities of what happened to you. He's a bit of an overthinker, but his paranoia is deserved--were you taken away in the middle of the night? Are you even still alive? He spirals down a path of self-loathing until he confronts how much he misses you, then his regret of never being frank with his feelings. Romano didn't understand what he had until he lost it. To say this was a wake-up call--to be more honest with himself--would be an understatement.
A week later, you return unscathed. Turns out, you left to stay with the owner of a paint shop owner your family always supported and bought from. You present him with a gift of some high-end oil paints, brushes, and canvases. When he sets them all down, he'll pull you into a tight hug, and once again, tell you how stupid you are. While he has you in his coils, you smile to yourself as you pat his hair, happy that you also got something in return. Some transparency. “I just thought I'd give you something... For all the trouble.” You'd say, and he'd shush you with a few hard kisses. “You were never a trouble. I wanted you to stay, so I'm more to blame than you.”
As the political situation of the country calms down, so do the anxieties of angry neighbors pounding on his door. You return to his home much to his content. Now that you're just as good as him at icing cakes, you spend more time running the bakery. This gives him some time to paint, and he can't be happier. Once you both get settled, he discovers another hobby on top of making art. Making coffee! The bakery evolves into a café lavishly decorated with his paintings, and it becomes the most popular establishment in town. You both realize how overrated it is to want to be anything more--you never bring up your title ever again.

Sound of Silence Chapter 5 Antonio
Also found on Ao3
He walks between his parents, a hand in each of theirs as they approach the front of the church. He’s been talked to and talked to by just about everyone about what’s happened. What will happen.
He can see his prima, his Mirabel, lying down up front. She’s in white and it bothers him seeing her without her colors. She’s never without her bright colors and her beautiful embroidery. He would sit with her for hours watching her embroider each butterfly, each rainbow and flower into her clothes. She would always hold it up for him, even when he was as young as two, she would hold it up for him to see first and she would ask, “What do you think Toñito, is that enough or does it need more?”
He would always reply more because he quickly learned it would make her laugh and she would say “Definitely more.”
The last time she did this was just days before his birthday and she said, “When you get your gift, I’ll put yours right at the top for all of the Encanto to see. Everyone will know.”
“Know what?” He had asked.
“That you’re my favorite.” And he had giggled at that because Mirabel was his favorite too.
He can’t remember if he told her though and it was really making his insides hurt not knowing if he did.
“Why is she wearing those clothes?” He whispers to his papá. He knows not to ask his mamá. She’s been crying a lot. Especially if he asks too many questions. And then she feels bad because she wants him to ask his questions. So he talks to papá or Lola.
They stop, too far away, he still can’t see her face. He drops papá’s hand first then has to slide his hand out of his mamá’s because she’s holding on too tight. Cami and Lola are standing to the side. His tía and tío are sitting with his primas. He waves to them but only Luisa waves back. Tío gives him a small smile. He walks over to them and drops his head into Tia’s lap. She presses her hand into his hair and across his back.
“Toñito.” She whispers.
He lifts his head to see tears falling from her eyes, “It’s okay Tía. We can find her old clothes and put her in them. She’ll feel better if we put them on her.”
Tía closes her eyes as she presses a hand to her mouth and nods, “You’re right, mijo, she needs color on her.”
He climbs up into her lap and lets her hug him close. He’s been told that Tía is very sad and has a broken heart. He wonders if his is broken too. It hurts a lot. He rubs his chest and wishes he could have one of his tía’s magic arepa’a. Then they could all feel better.
Abuela approaches and hands him a blue cloud patch and a rainbow patch. It’s not much but it’ll do.
“Do you want to go see her?” Abuela asks and Antonio nods, “Do you want me to go with you?” He shakes his head and she smiles softly as she cups his cheek before helping him out of Tia’s lap.
Antonio steps up to Mirabel alone. She’s so still. He’s never seen her so still, his prima was always moving. Always spinning, always shimmying her shoulders, she never walked anywhere, she ran or danced. That was Mirabel mode, he had heard his papá tease on more than one occasion.
“Hey Mira,” Antonio says, “We found some patches you like,” he holds up the rainbow one, “See it’s like mamí’s rainbows she likes to make for me. And a pretty cloud one. It’s almost your favorite color. See.”
He looks at her face and starts to tremble. There’s cuts and bruises on her face. He’s never seen so many. Tears fill his eyes because it must hurt her. He knows it hurts her. “Mamá. Mamí. Her face hurts.” Antonio leans closer to his Mirabel, “And her glasses. Where is her glasses?” Antonio glances back as his papá grabs his arms trying to pull him away from his Mirabel but he pulls back to her, “She can’t see without her classes.” His papá wraps his arms around him and lifts him up, “Put her glasses on!” He cries out as he’s taken away from his prima, “Put them on!”
He fights his papá and finally he’s put down. His papá grabs his arms, holds him steady, “Toñito.”
Antonio shakes his head. He tries to jerk out of his papá’s arms but he’s not strong enough, “No Papí, no. I don’t want her to be dead. I want her to sing to me. She always sings to me. Every night. Please.” He gasps as his papá pulls him to his chest and hugs him tight.
“I know mijo, I know.” His papá says as Antonio sobs into his chest. He hears others crying and he doesn’t like it. Mirabel wouldn’t like it. She never liked when any of them were sad. She never liked it when he was sad.
Finally he breaks free and he runs out of the church, pauses as his eyes adjust to the brightness of being outside and quickly maneuvers between people as someone shouts his name from behind him. He needs to hide. He needs to figure out why his body feels so tight and why he feels so much and nothing at all at the same time.
Normally he would run into the nursery, grab his blanket and slide under Mirabel’s bed where he would wait until she got home and came for him.
Because she always came for him.
“Where’s my favorite hombrecito? I know he’s here. I can smell him.”
“What’s he smell like?” Antonio always asks, holding in his giggles as Mirabel would pretend to look under pillows and books.
“Hmmm he smells like grass and sunshine and …” Mirabel would sniff loudly, “Frogs?”
“Ewww.” Antonio says.
“No? What about a coatis?”
“No!”
“I know. He smells like a MONKEY!” And Antonio squeals as Mirabel reaches under the bed, tickling him until he’s out of breath.
Antonio is on the edge of the trees when he sees two golden eyes watching him. Parce. He reaches with his mind but remembers his gift is gone and so he steps closer to the jaguar, a hand outstretched. Parce stays frozen as Antonio creeps closer and just as Antonio places his hand on Parce’s head, he hears Camilo shout his name. In the next moment he’s lifted into Camilo's arms and Parce ducks to the ground in a growl, his ears flat against his head.
“No Cami, it’s okay.” Antonio struggles in his brother's embrace but he’s not strong enough, “Put me down!” He shouts and Camilo is shocked enough by how loud he is that he does. Antonio, knowing his brother was only trying to protect him, pats his arm, “It’s okay, watch.”
Antonio approaches Parce, who is still low on the ground, slightly lifts his head. His tail twitches and Antonio smiles as his hand brushes over the jaguar's head. Parce lifts slightly and nudges Antonio who gives a quiet laugh before looking back at his brother, “See he remembers me. He won’t hurt me.”
“Eh.” Camilo tilts his head as Parce yawns widely and although Antonio can no longer hear his animal brother, he knows he’s doing it just for show so Camilo can see how big his teeth are. “I don’t suggest bringing him around others right now. You can no longer tell him not to eat someone.”
Antonio doesn’t respond, just wraps his arms around his jaguar's neck and buries his face in his fur. For the first time since Casita fell down he feels the heaviness in his chest lift.
As the sun fads and the jungle behind them grows dark, Antonio agrees to leave Parce and return to the church with Camilo. He first promises Parce he’ll be back in the morning and although he knows it’s impossible the jaguar seems to understand.
Camilo lifts him up onto his shoulders as they start their walk back. Antonio looks back but Parce is gone. He starts to feel the heaviness inside of him again. It had gone away when he was with his jaguar but now it came back and it hurt. A lot.
“Parce told me Mirabel shined the brightest in our family. He said she was the most magical of all of us.”
Camilo reaches up and squeezes his leg, “He was right.”
“Cami? Is Mira really gone forever?”
Camilo takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, “Yeah hermanito.”
Antonio stays silent the rest of the trip back and they’re greeted by their mamá, papá, and sobrina.
“Look what papá found.” Lola says.
Camilo lifts him off his shoulders and places him on the ground in front of their sister as she holds out something for him.
His stuffed jaguar. Antonio takes it from his sister and hugs it against his chest. His jaguar Mirabel made him for his birthday. He hugs it tightly but it’s not tight enough. He feels so confused and so he starts crying. Hard enough that he struggles to breathe. Dolores wraps her arms around him and squeezes him and it helps that feeling go away but…
“I don’t know if I told her.”
“Told her what, corazón?” Lola asks.
Antonio is gasping now. He can’t stop the tears and his heart is hurting so much. He’s lifted into someone’s arms and he wraps his arms around his mamí’s neck, hiding his face.
“Told her what?” His mamá whispers.
“Told her she was my favorite too.”
“Oh, mi vida, she knew. She knew she was your favorite.”
“It’s true.” Camilo steps up and Antonio peaks up to see tears on his face too, “She used to tease me all the time, ‘You might be his hermano but I’m his favorita’ she would say.”
Antonio sniffs, “Really?”
Camilo brushes Antonio’s hair from his face and smiles, “Truly.”
