You were clutching your stomach. You had just nearly escaped a big hoard of zombies, but one of them scratched you, leaving a deep wound on your abdomen. Luckily, you didn't get bitten. You let out quiet groans as you walked, you were so tired and you needed to get somewhere so you could clean your wounds.
"Glob.. I'm going to die out here.. aren't I? Fuck.. Fuck.."
Your voice shook as you talked to yourself. You started to tear up. The thought of your death was hard, but you needed to start accepting it. You started to have trouble keeping your balance. You looked around for anywhere to rest. You saw a tree and started to walk towards it.
"Come on, body.. just a bit longer.. then we can rest.."
You groaned as you forced yourself to walk a bit further. When you got to the tree, you let yourself collapse. You took your backpack off and moved it closer to the tree. You rolled over and scooted closer to the tree. You sat up and rested against the tree.
"Alright.. made it.. ok.."
You said in between heavy breaths, grabbed your bag, and dug around for medical supplies. Thankfully, you had raided a hospital before you got attacked. You grabbed some rubbing alcohol and some gauze, sitting them beside you.
"This is gonna hurt like a bitch.."
You grumbled and lifted your shirt. This was the first time you saw how bad the wound was. You started to shake violently, and you put the end of your shirt in your mouth, biting down on the fabric hard. You grabbed the alcohol with your shakey hands and tried to pour it sparingly on the gauze. You started to clean your wounds, and you let out a loud cry of pain. You bit down on the fabric of your shirt more. You started to cry as you cleaned the blood from your body. You sat down the gauze when you were done and dug around in your bag for some bandages. You started to hear footsteps coming your way, and you quickly hid your supplies in your bag. You let go of your shirt, and you reached into your pocket, grabbing your pocket knife. You quickly flipped the blade out and gripped the handle tightly.
"Not now, please don't come here now.."
You whispered to yourself as you heard the footsteps get closer. You started to hear the voices of two people, one of a man and the other of a small child.
"Marceline, get close to me. Someone's there.."
"Ok, Simon.."
You looked over at them and sighed. You knew they saw you.
"Fuck, Fuck, Fuck"
You mumbled to yourself as you held your knife tightly. You didn't know if they were dangerous or not, and you were in no shape to fight off anyone.
"Hello..? Are you alright?"
The man approached you cautiously. You moved yourself closer to the tree and pointed your knife at him.
"G-Get away from me!"
Your voice shook as you tried to make him back off. His face softened when he saw you. He stepped forward a bit.
"It's alright, kid.. I'm not going to hurt you.."
"Like hell I'm believing that!"
You kicked him in the stomach and crawled away from him, dragging your bag with you. He groaned slightly and put a hand on his stomach. You got up and started to run away from them, gripping your bag tightly. You held your knife close to yourself, just in case you had to use it.
"Simon?! Are you ok?! Hey! You meany, come back!"
Marceline huffed at you and started to chase after you, Simon tried to grab her hand, but she was too quick for him.
"Marceline, wait!"
He quickly followed after her, with his hand on his stomach. He was surprised you could kick that hard when you were clearly badly wounded. You glanced back at the two following you, and you stumbled forward, falling on the grass, groaning loudly. You dropped your knife on the ground next to you, thankfully not cutting yourself with it.
She put a hand on your back and leaned forward to see your face.
"Are you hurt?"
You looked at her and started to cry. She reminded you of your little sister that you had lost. She had died while you were protecting her. You reached a shakey hand out to her, and Simon quickly snatched her away from you, worried you'd hurt her.
"Marceline! You can't just chase after people! What if they hurt you!?"
"Simon, they're hurt!"
You looked at the two of them and smiled. They reminded you of the family you'd lost. You reached a hand out to the two of them and closed your eyes.
"S-See.. you soon.."
You mumbled as you lost consciousness. You could hear marceline start to yell as you drifted off. You woke up in a house, you looked around, confused, you thought you'd died. You saw Simon and Marceline sitting near you, Marceline kept asking Simon innocent questions about you.
"Simon, do you think they have a family?"
"probably... well, maybe not anymore since they were alone.."
"Do you think they can say with us?"
"Only if they want to.. we can't make them"
You let out a soft chuckle, hearing her ask him about you. Marceline quickly looked at you and got up, rushing over to you.
"Hi!! Are you ok? What's your name?"
She stood over you, she had a big smile on her face.
"Hi.. I'm Y/N.. I'm alright.."
You weakly smiled at her. You still felt a lot of pain, but you didn't really want to worry her. Simon turned to face you and moved closer to you. His movements made you uneasy. You didn't trust him. You looked over at him, and your expression changed when you saw him. You looked angry at him.
"Don't get any closer.."
You lowered your voice, trying to sound intimidating. He let out a sigh and moved back to his original spot. He didn't like that you didn't trust him, Marceline trusted him so quickly, so he wasn't used to someone so defensive. He desperately wanted to help you, but he respected your boundaries.
"Don't be mean to Simon! He's nice! He'll protect you"
You looked at her and shook your head, sitting up more. You didn't want to rely on a complete stranger, and you knew how to take care of yourself.
"No, it's alright.. I don't need protection, I've gotten this far"
She stepped away from you as you stood up.
"Nice meeting you, Marcy..."
You grabbed your bag and smiled at her before turning around. You started to walk towards the door but stopped when you felt her grab onto your leg.
"Y/N! You can't leave! You're hurt!"
You smiled and turned to face her. You bent down so you could see her face better.
"You can't be that attached to me. You just met me"
You patted her head and stood up, Simon got up, walking closer to the both of you. He looked at you, making your grip your bag tighter. You glanced at him and stepped away from the two of them. Marceline let go of your leg and turned to Simon. She tugged on his jacket sleeve to get his attention.
"Simon, tell them they can come with us!"
"Now Marceline, I don't think they want to.."
"Simon!"
She whined, looking up at him with big eyes.
"Marcy, I.. I can't force them to do anything.."
He let out a soft chuckle. You saw Marceline start to tear up. It hurt to see her like this. She reminded you so much of your sister. You clinched your fists, trying to turn away from her, but couldn't.
"Marcy, don't cry. We might run into them later"
He said, bending down, wiping away her tears. She really didn't want you to leave. You let out a long, tired sounding sigh and put a hand on your face.
"Marcy, you want me to stay that badly?"
She looked over to you and nodded.
"I want to make sure you're ok.."
You sighed again, you could feel yourself starting to cry, you pushed back the tears and moved your hand off of your face.
"Alright, fine, you don't make it easy to say no, do you?"
You put your hands on your hips and smiled at her. Simon stood up and let Marceline go. She quickly ran to you, hugging you tightly. You stumbled back at the force of her hug and let out a laugh. It was the first time you actually laughed in a while.
