when i wrote the pinned post for this blog i settled on "a common throughline in Shit What I Like is understanding how and why systems work" bc i hadn't yet listened to Well There's Your Problem, a podcast with slides about engineering disasters and systemic failures, and "OSHA aficionado" is shorter but less snappy than "WTYPP fan". anyway when i think "chemical spill" i do not generally think "hand sanitizer spill", and when i think "how do i get rid of all this unsellable poorly made hand sanitizer made in the early days of the pandemic" i do not immediately leap to "well i'll just dump pallets in this parking lot and warehouse and surely it won't spill and/or explode bc hand sanitizer is a product that makes you safer".

ArtNaturals was, at that point, not on the [FDA warning] list. watching this was a unexpectedly funny experience bc i recognized one of the backing instrumentals as a previous tuesdaypost song, which kind of felt like solving a mystery book on chapter three bc u knew an obscure fact about eels. this documentary came out in nov 22 and the song was one of this past feb's tuesdaysongs so i can only assume the spike in popularity from the documentary propelled it onto my discover weekly playlist??? the internet is a series of algorithmic tubes &tc

this is a tremendous work, as a documentary/history/archival effort/piece of art. it made me tear up. there's a very lovely sequence about memory and legacy that got me thinking a lot again about how i would like to be remembered. ive rewritten this section four times, when usually i don't redraft the tuesdaypost much at all. boils down to: complex and weird topic to talk about as an orphan, i am reluctant to be any more emotionally vulnerable than i absolutely have to during this time of great cross-country change and moving upheaval.

i appreciated how this was not tearjerker webby bait, which would have made it feel very hollow and embittered me even more during a week i am already predisposed to hate humanity. instead, mr perjurer is simply very good at his job (being an ethical documentarian)

one game i really loved and one game i really hated, so it goes.

despite religiously downloading the epic store free game of the week bc i have a reminder written in my planner, i never fucking remember to actually look at what i have in that library.

ABZÛ genuinely healed my heart during a very unpleasant weekend.

i don't use this as a recs platform except for this one time when i am cashing in all my chips. go play ABZÛ, it takes like an hour and a half.

all you need to know about it you can get from the cover art. it is not a hard game and it is not a horror game. i went in totally blind and the less you know about this game the better. i was delighted nearly every minute. every time i saw an ammonite i felt like i was seeing an old friend. there are SO many clever game design choices i want to talk about. message me after you play this. i said "of COURSE IT WAS AUSTIN FUCKING WINTORY ON THE SCORE" during the credits. what an absolutely goddamn perfect little jewel of a game.

AGAIN: go play ABZÛ.

i also played Call of the Sea, bc it was in my epic library and i wanted something fast and oceanic to continue the high of ABZÛ.

Call of the Sea did not continue the high of ABZÛ. i think this team carefully and thoughtfully sidestepped several of the usual issues is making something Lovecraftian but fell into the rest of the pits. eg i liked that they had Polynesian culture consultants, but from an interview it seemed like it was limited to a one-day crash course? i am deeply grateful this isn't a dead-wife game and the female protagonist has a great deal of agency, but she's still a rich white lady from boston trekking about the Tahitian islands commenting on primitive structures, which made me suck air in through my teeth at many points. there is an "ancient slave culture" thread that never actually resolves. i really wish it resolved. the game overall is in a very weird place, trapped between the norms and mores of the early 40s and the 2020s. you have Got to commit to one or the other.

the overall vibe is very polished for a first game. general vibes are Firewatch but puzzle-adventure. the lighting is a little too dynamic and was very distracting throughout. due to this studio's age (new) and odd location (spain) and how their debut game came out (took a year and a half to make, debuted on gamepass) i understand why this game exists the way it does from a marketing and industry standpoint and why they favored visual polish and art style over everything else. it's still annoying bc it is so close to an interesting game.

I’ve been watching What’s New Scooby Doo lately and I have some thoughts.

Fred Jones truly is one of the most autistic coded characters in this franchise.

His ongoing joke in this series is that he can bench 220, and this always comes up unprompted. He’s also working on benching 221 and good for him.

Fred Jones is a big professional wrestling fan and apparently keeps his mat wrestling gear on him JUST IN CASE he’s at a show and the company needs a fast and sudden substitute wrestler (this was a plot point in an episode I’m not joking)

Fred is the one who does most of not all of the driving because he’s the one that owns the Mystery Machine.

This doesn’t mean Fred is a good driver. In one episode he drove over a decaying, wood bridge that started to crumble as they went over it. Once on the other side he just goes “Can I drive or what? :D” as everyone else had years shaved off their life.

There was a pilot who let Fred in the cockpit to see the controls and he immediately caused the plane to make a nosedive. Daphne and Velma both buckled up as soon as the offer was made.

I legitimately don’t understand how the crew for Velma looked at Fred Jones and went “this is an asshole man-child” when he’s literally just a guy.

No really, how do you look at this man and go “yeah he’s a raging douchebag”? babe there are no thoughts happening.

The show completely ignores that Cairo is a city that is literally right next the the Pyramids of Giza and went with a desolate village for the sake of story telling

Two episodes previous they fully acknowledge that there are several cities on the continent of Africa (they never state what country they’re in and just keep saying Africa as if it’s not the second largest continent)

Shaggy’s character completely changes when he’s playing mini golf and I think that’s just really funny.

This show is aggressively 2002 and happy for her on that.

They rely on tropes and stereotypes for certain locations way too much and that concerns me even for a show that’s 20 years old. (They definitely went there with Mexico and New Mexico)

Speaking of the Mexico episode, why a worm????? Why is there a cult for it?????

I haven’t watched this episode yet, but apparently the gang is at a haunted lighthouse in the Midwest and I already know they’re not going to be on the Great Lakes. EDIT: THEY’RE IN WISCONSIN

The entire gang has to be super well off because they travel internationally A LOT. I want to know what the budget for travel is alone.

I feel like they break a lot of laws when they go solve a mystery.

There’s probably also a lot of OSHA violations.

So far every villain has been a white person and good for her on that.

There’s a lot less real estate crime as the motives for the monsters. One person wasn’t done with their research and decided that instead of owning up they would fabricate a whole ass alien hatching from an egg instead. Iconic.

There were also two guys who dressed up as ghosts to make more money on their haunted tour rides.

Every time someone tries the change the structure of the group, things go wrong almost immediately. Truly the case study of “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.”

So far in the series they’ve had two IRL bands which is Simple Plan and KISS.

I legitimately forgot how much of Simple Plan’s discography this show has. How much money did WB drop on this show???

I’m still on season 2, but it feels like they have to have a racing episode at least once every season.

The second racing episode played Hot by Smash Mouth and I recognized that song as soon as it started up. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

Overall a fun show. Just gotta look past “Aggressively 2002” and some interesting decisions in writing.

There’s uhhh more but god there’s a lot to unpack.

Bones (short for Lord Boniface Eddington Jones) (they/them) is a 5e character im running in my dad's strixhaven game. they are an undead warlock based on a turn of the century british archaeologist. lets just say they fucked around and found out with a mummy. they can turn into bugs and have a little skeleton in a top hat named jeeves that follows them around. their eldritch blast is pocket sand. they wear jodhpurs.

Adalet Abassi (she/her) is my vampire: the masquerade character. shes a Banu Haqim assassin. she has a big sword and she mostly spends time Going through It. sometimes she kills people on accident because of how vampire works. she feels bad about it. sometimes she kills people on purpose because of other reasons. she feels less bad about that!

Solstice (she/they)is another 5e character, a fire genasi light cleric. shes all about sunshine and lighting shit on fire. she wears sick armor that never gets dirty but is very unstealthy. also her hair is fire a little bit. the essence of "im a healer, but (casts fireball)"

OSHA Relations Committee Article in 2023 Tower Times Volume 2

The OSHA Relations Committee reelected me, Justin Miller, Vice President of ET Tower, LLC & Business Development Executive for Ontivity, as the 2023 Chairman of OSHA Relations.

“I am proud to serve the OSHA Relations Committee. I am very grateful to have such an amazing group of people to help provide a continuing source of information to NATE members and the telecommunications industry regarding OSHA, industry standards and best practices to enhance safety, reduce incidents, and deliver a platform for a more effective workforce.” - Justin Miller

NATE Director of Safety, Health & Compliance, Kathy Stieler provided the committee with an update on NATE’s pursuit to have a seat on the ANSI/ASSP A10 Committee. We are awaiting the A10 committee response.

Don Doty provided the committee with an update on ANSI/ASSP A10.48 revisions. Over 120 comments were submitted to the A10.48 Committee. Comments are being addressed and progress is being made as quickly as possible.

JP Jones and I provided the committee with updates on the NATE-OSHA-FCC Partnership (OSP), the OSP Steering Team has developed three task teams.

Data & Research Task Team – is tasked with creating buckets to collect and articulate the data for analytics and mining of data that has been submitted.

Editing Task Team – takes information from the data and research task team and drafts Hazard Recognition Icons and further defines the purpose of the icon.

3. Communication Task Team – is tasked with the public distribution means and methods, along with the design of the icons for what it looks like, color, fonts, graphic art, etc.

The current task is to develop an Energy Wheel of Hazard Recognition Icons, within the Hazard Recognition Icons we will establish STCKY “Stuff that can kill you” to help bring the communication industry a well-defined training tool to enhance safety and improve data collection in the future.

NATE STAR Initiative data was reviewed, and plans are being developed on how to better educate and inform the NATE members with guidance and best practices to enhance safety programs. We highly encourage all NATE members to complete the application for the NATE STAR Initiative Program. We have complied the 2021-2022 data for our NATE members to help provide transparency of the data collected.

The committee will also be taking NATE’s Industry Standards, Regulations & Safety Resources Document and assigning the part number section from the NATE STAR Initiative Audit form and correlating back to which industry standards and regulations better guide the employers and the auditors.

OSHA Relations has also developed another task team titled, Hoisting Grip Member Advisory lead by Kathy Stieler. Additional task team members will be Richard Cullum, Sheri O’Dell-Deuer, Joey Deuer, Jeremy Buckles, Cameron Swanson, Jeff Pettit, Miles Mellor, and JP Jones. The team will provide guidance and perform research that relates to Hoisting Grip(s) and how they are used in our industry. Expect to see more information very soon.

The OSHA Relations Committee is also responsible for the task team titled, Rigging Training Standard (RTS). This task team is hard at work developing a deliverable for the industry. The RTS document is framed much like the recently revised Climber/Rescuer Training Standard (CRTS). We hope to have a more in-depth report for the Summer Conference.

Lastly, the OSHA Relations Committee is always looking for feedback and questions that can inspire the forward progress of safety and standards. I highly encourage our non-members and NATE members to reach out to our committee for clarity or guidance. ●

Toledo boxer Oshae Jones preparing for Olympics while fighting through hardship

Olympic Bronze medalist Oshae Jones (3-0) is trying to build some recognition on the pro scene. While women's boxing is in a way better place than it was a decade ago, it is still a struggle for most women in the U.S. to get signed by a promoter. But her status as an Olympian did help her get a spot on the new DAZN x Overtime boxing series.

DAZN signed a deal with Overtime to host boxing events in the Overtime arena down in Georgia in hopes of highlighting prospects on the rise in the sport. Jones will be on the first of these cards this Friday (August 4) where she'll face Miranda Barber (3-4).
