Compulsory Question 2
My vision statement was written very simply and myopically. I would like to talk about it a little more seriously and in detail. What I want to achieve most after graduating from school is to find my own style. My own personality is reflected in my designs, which makes me a special designer. But what about after that? If you become a unique and individual designer, can you say that you have become a good, great designer? Good designers must always be mindful of the social impact and responsibility of their work. Through this, design can develop into not just an artistic expression, but a creative activity with social responsibility.
Tibor Kalman is a designer known for his innovative and socially meaningful designs. His work addresses a variety of social issues and cultural diversity, thereby contributing to sparking social debate. He addressed topics such as race, sexism, and social diversity through his "Colors" magazine and Benetton advertising campaigns, and also took an interest in social issues such as crime prevention through design. I believe that his work combines art and society and effectively utilizes the power of design to deliver social messages.
“Design is just language and the real issue is what you use that language to do.”
The essence of design is like language. If we break down this meaning, it means that design is not only a simple visual expression, but also has the power to convey a message and exert influence through it. This makes me reflect on my responsibility and role as a designer. Our duty is to use design as a language to address social issues, encourage dialogue about a variety of issues, and contribute to bringing about positive social change.
But sometimes I want to focus on design, thinking only about joy, happiness, and joy. Because that’s what design means to me. Design can also play an important role in conveying joy and happiness and connecting people. The pictograms from the 1972 Munich Olympics are a good example in this respect.
Pictograms are simple visual icons that are easy to understand across cultures and languages. In particular, we emphasize diversity and inclusion by using a visual language that everyone can understand. This did not simply remain an icon, but contributed to promoting cultural interaction and understanding and creating social solidarity.
Design is an expression of our society and culture and a means of communication. Tibor Kalman and the pictograms of the Munich Olympics show in their own way the impact and importance of design on society. I believe it is important to have a sense of responsibility as a designer and to creatively address social issues while delivering happiness and joy to people. After I find my own style, I want to become a great designer who can do both well.
