I wrote this half asleep

"You should know," Sally starts - her palm pressed over Lizzie's before their hands are in a hold so tight both their skin dries. "I have a son."

Lizzie hums, the very sea around her vibrating with the sound. "You should know," She says in turn "I have a husband."

"Good." Sally looks at her fiersly, the folds in her forehead more apparent now then ever.

She is old in a way Lizzie is not. Aged, with the crease of her brow and wilting of her scales. The light hitting her is unforgiving. It dulls her features and makes them more washed out than the deep sea Lizzie offers ever would. Still, they find balance. Right where dark blue meets light, they meet. They talk. They curl around the other, Sally so small she could be held in Lizzies palms and Lizzie so big she could destroy a country.

They talk.

"He is a fox, my son. You will be kind when you meet him."

Sally looks at her, eyes gold and pupils large, with teeth too small to bite into anything bigger then placton, but her jaw makes up for it.

"You will love him as I do."
