Saab receives service and maintenance request for South African Gripens
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/19/2022 - 8:30 PM In Military, Saab
Saab received a support contract for the service, repairs and maintenance of the Gripen C/D fighters of the South African Air Force (SAAF).
The order value is 333 million Swedish kronor (about US$ 32 million) over a three-year period, from 2022 to 2025, and covers services, repairs and maintenance, as well as minor updates to the support and training systems of the South African Air Force's Gripen system.
South Africa has been operating Gripen C/D since 2008 and is the first export customer of Saab's Gripen.
"I am very happy and pleased that we have reached an agreement for a new support contract, so that we can best support our customers in their operational needs," says Asa Schöllin, head of Saab's Gripen Sustainability business unit.
The Gripen C-series is the most reliable swing-role combat aircraft available in the world today. More than 150 million people in five countries on three continents rely on the Gripen C-series to protect their sovereign airspace and ensure their independence.
Gripen C/D successfully participated in NATO-led exercises, as well as several air policing exercises and missions around the world.

Pakistan Super League Severely Hit, Several Overseas Stars Pull Out Ahead Of New Season
Several high-profile international cricketers have pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to the overlapping of dates with other franchise-based tournaments and many cricket boards denying permission to their players to compete in domestic T20 competitions. The PSL begins in Lahore on February 17 and all the six franchises have been hit hard with several players opting for the Bangladesh Premier League, ILT20 and SA20 leagues.
Tumblr media
PSL side Multan Sultans have lost several players they had initially signed up for the upcoming season, with England pace bowler Reece Topley being the latest to pull out due to an injury.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also said it had not issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Topley to play in the PSL.
Some other boards are also having second thoughts about giving no-objection certificates for PSL.
Multan will also be without Pakistan fast bowler Ehsanullah, who has failed to recover from an elbow surgery he suffered last year after the PSL.
Peshawar Zalmi have also lost a big name in Lungi Ngidi of South Africa, while Quetta Gladiators will be without Sri Lanka's Wanandu Hasaranga.
West Indies cricketers Shai Hope, Matthew Forde and Akeal Hosein, South Africa's Tabraiz Shamshi and Rassie van Der Dussen, England's James Vince and Afghanistan's Noor Ahmed and Naveen ul Haq, among others, will also skip the entire tournament.
A PSL franchise owner has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to revisit the tournament window, as it is not possible to get big players when three leagues are happening on after the other.
"The SA20 ended recently and the ILT20 concludes on the day the PSL begins, so it is getting difficult to sign big players now," he said on condition of anonymity.
He also pointed out that January-February is a busy season for international cricket series. Sri Lanka are playing a series against Afghanistan, South Africa are in the middle of a two-Test series against New Zealand while West Indies are playing a series against Australia.
"There is an acute need to change the PSL window, else it will lose its charm if we don't get big overseas names," he added.

India thrash South Africa by eight wickets
India’s seamers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan helped skittle South Africa out for 116 before Sai Sudharsan scored an unbeaten 55 on debut as India romped to an eight-wicket victory in the first One-Day International at The Wanderers on Sunday.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat but the decision proved disastrous as they were bowled out for their lowest total on home soil in the 50-over format, narrowly underperforming the previous worst mark of 118 – also against India – in Pretoria in 2018.
Singh picked up five wickets for 37 runs in his 10 overs and Khan took 4-27 in eight as they bowled a wicket-to-wicket line that had seven of the South African batters either bowled or dismissed leg before wicket.All-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo offered some resistance for the hosts with 33 from 49 balls before he became Singh’s fifth and final victim.
“The plan was to keep it simple,” Singh said after his first ODI in more than a year. “I hadn’t opened my account in One-Day Internationals having played three games before this, so to get a five-for is really special. The wicket was helping, so we tried to maintain the basics and use the right lengths.
“Before the game we thought there wouldn’t be much movement, so we were surprised, but there was a nice breeze and some purchase off the wicket, so the plan was to hit the wickets and look for lbws.”
Khan removed the middle and lower order for his career-best bowling figures in ODIs.India were positive in their chase and reached their target in 16.4 overs with exactly 200 balls to spare.Debutant left-handed opener Sudharsan scored an elegant 55 not out in 43 balls, including nine fours.
He was supported by Shreyas Iyer, who was caught with victory in sight having scored 52 from 45 balls. The second game in the three-match series will be played in Gqeberha on Tuesday.
Both teams are missing several of their regular players, who are either injured or rested for the two-match Test series that follows.
Arshdeep, Avesh destroy South African batting
Indian pace bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan sent South Africa crashing to 116 all out in the first one-day international at the Wanderers Stadium on Sunday.
Left-armer Arshdeep took five for 37 and Avesh claimed four for 27 as they rose to the challenge of representing an Indian side which included only three players from the side that played in the World Cup final last month.
Arshdeep had not taken a wicket in three previous one-day internationals while Avesh had taken only three in five appearances.
South African captain Aiden Markram chose to bat on the pitch which was used for a Twenty20 international on Thursday, expecting it to help the spinners later in the match.
But the seamers gained considerable assistance and took full advantage. Arshdeep took the first four wickets in a seven-over opening spell and Avesh followed up by taking the next four, also in a seven-over spell.
Andile Phehlukwayo hit 33 to enable South Africa to go past the lowest total in 55 one-day internationals at the Wanderers – 109 by Pakistan against South Africa in 1994/95.
Brief scores:
South Africa 116 in 27.3 overs (A. Phehlukwayo 33; Arshdeep Singh 5-37, Avesh Khan 4-27).

Ian Chappell Blunt Dig at the Resignation of Babar Azam as Team Pakistan Captain
Last week, the captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, stepped down as captain of the national team across all three formats of the game. His decision came shortly after the side's disappointing exit from the 2023 World Cup, where it finished fifth. Pakistan faced defeats to arch-rivals India as well as Afghanistan, while facing narrow losses to South Africa and eventual champions Australia as well. While his successor in ODIs is yet to be announced, Shaheen Afridi will now lead Pakistan in T20Is, while Shan Masood was named the skipper in Tests.
Tumblr media
Ahead of the series, former Australia batter Ian Chappell spoke about Babar stepping down as captain and made an interesting remark on Pakistan cricket; the former Aussie skipper stated that it is “typical” of Pakistan to keep changing captains.
Chappell said, "Yeah, that’s a pity; I think Babar’s a very good player. He’s not leaving the Pakistan side, and maybe they can find a better captain. But it’s typical of Pakistan; they change captains frequently.” Babar is a part of the Pakistan Test squad for the Australia tour, but Chappell believes the visitors face a herculean task when they land down under.
He also said, “The problem with Pakistan is they don’t have a great record in Australia, even when they had good sides who could bat and bowl. They’ve got some good quickies at the moment, but the bounce of Australian pitches has always troubled them.”

Coronavirus: Latest Statistics on Bill's Bible Basics Blog https://www.billkochman.com/Blog/index.php/coronavirus-latest-statistics-bills-bible-basics-blog/ NOTE: Be advised that due to the ongoing situation regarding the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this blog post will be updated frequently, as my time permits, until world health officials determine that the virus has peaked, and is on a steady downward trend worldwide. CORONAVIRUS LATEST STATISTICS Last Updated On: Saturday, February 27, 2021 Last Updated At: 01:24 PM ChST (Chamorro Standard Time/GMT+10) Total Countries Infected: 192 Please note that the accuracy of the figures which are shared in this BBB Blog post is based on two things: 1. The honesty and accuracy of the governments and health institutions which are reporting these statistics. 2. The level of testing which is being conducted by each nation which contributes statistics to this list. Having said that, because some nations have been very slow to conduct tests, and/or have a very limited number of test kits in their possession, it is most probable that the figures listed below are far below reality. In short, the more tests each nation conducts, the more accurate these statistics will become over time. 7. The Growth of Limited-Overs Cricket (20th Century):

The following Bazball difficulty is India, which is widely recognised as one of the toughest obstacles in Test matches: Mr. Nasser Hussain
After dropping the first two Test matches, England fought valiantly to tie the Ashes series at two games each. Even though they were unable to win back the urn, the cricket community praised their perseverance and willingness to take on the World Test Champions Australia, who currently possess what is arguably the best bowling attack in the world.
Since Brendon McCullum took over as head coach and teamed up with captain Ben Stokes, England’s playing strategy has been like a breath of new air to the game’s most fundamental rules. Some of the strongest bowling attacks in the world have been deflated by their “Bazball” ruse. The methodical lunacy that Bazball brings with it has been witnessed by teams like New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.
When Stokes’ team travels to India to play in a five-match Test series in early 2024, Nasser Hussain believes the famous Bazball technique is poised for an intriguing battle. The English hitters’ aggressive batting approach hasn’t been tried on surfaces like those that might be available during the trip, so the spin-friendly conditions in India will present a new challenge.

Zimbabwe's cricketing journey
Tumblr media
If any team has impressed a lot in recent times through its performance is Zimbabwe National cricket team, whether it's an epic match against the West Indies in the ICC 2023 World Cup qualifiers, where they defeated the Caribbean by 35 runs which made it a global sports headline in the cricketing world or it's the World Cup win against India in 1999 by three runs.
Zimbabwe's national cricket journey is full of ups and downs in the world. Sometimes they are beating the top teams like South Africa, India, Australia and losing to the teams like Scotland and UAE. Let’s know  the journey of Zimbabwe national cricket team
You may not believe during the time from 1992- 2002, the Chevrons were going through a golden era time, with the batsman like Andy Flower, Andy Blignaut and Heath Streak, the inclusion of these quality players, a new breakthrough was achieved in levels of performance in the late 1990s where the Zimbabwean team began winning Tests against other nations, which included a series win against Pakistan. However, the political situation in Zimbabwe declined around the same time, which had a detrimental effect on the national team's performance.
Zimbabwe performed well at the 1999 Cricket World Cup, coming in fifth place in the Super Sixes.
Zimbabwe's Most famous wins
It would not be wrong to say that 1999 year was the best world cup for Zimbabwe's national cricket team where they defeated the Men in Blue by three runs and the most famous win came against South Africa, where the team got collapsed on 40 for 6 before Lance Klusener and Shaun Pollock scored half-centuries to reduce the margin of defeat to 48 runs and this cricket news became one of the top cricket news headline in the world.
After excellent performance in the 1999 world cup, the Zimbabwe team faced a severe decline in performance due to several reasons from financial to political with the top player quitting and disruption made into the team making them lose against teams like South Africa, New Zealand and India, where they were humiliated because of their performance against India when they became only the second side in Test history to be bowled out twice in the space of one day.
