I really love how the pjo show is leaning into fatal flaws from the get go. More for Percy than Annabeth so far- but for new fans it’ll be an absolute lightbulb moment when fatal flaws are actually discussed, and for original readers it’s just. So good.

I’ve noticed it popping up in prev episodes (‘I am Sally Jackson’s son’, picking Grover bc he’s the one person he’s sure won’t betray him etc) but ep 4 rlly cemented it for me. Percy spends the entire episode trash talking his father and the gods, and then immediately sacrifices himself for Grover and Annabeth. Because they’ve helped him.

But what gets me- what GETS ME. Is its more showing the fatal flaws of the gods. Annabeth prays to her mother and honors her and at the slightest hit to her pride, she allows the mother of monsters into her own temple to kill her daughter.

Percy, as I said, spends the entire episode trash talking his father. Poseidons own son sent medusas head to Olympus- his FORBIDDEN son, who has supposedly stolen the master bolt, who tried to refuse the opportunity to clear both their names. And then he can’t even be bothered to pray to him. To say anything good about him.

But Percy is Poseidons son, and he actively chooses to rescue him from falling to his death, regardless.

Percy’s fatal flaw is personal loyalty- he gets it from his father.
