A throwback to 2020, when like everyone I guess my kids and I were constantly playing Animal Crossing to maintain our sanity during the pandemic.

Not to be competitive but I still believe my island had the superior highway system. The kids questioned the aesthetic. But I felt it was necessary so Tom Nook could maintain one-day delivery.

Hi friends. My COVID case I got the week of my dad’s birthday (8/13) has become Long COVID. I’m scared; as a disabled spoonie, I’m used to my body and Brian not working optimally, but not in This Specific Way, and certainly not when I’m trying to finish my last semester of college while balancing an RA job. I’m exhausted and recovering so slowly, my doctors have kept me out of class for 2 weeks and we’re still assessing whether or not I’m ready to go back (next appt early tomorrow morning.)

A few weeks ago, my mom asked me who I consider my best friend. Now my view on what a best friend is has changed a lot in the last few years. I've gone through a lot when it's come to friends, I think a lot of people have over the pandemic.

But I told my mom it wasn't my boyfriend but someone who's just always been supportive to me, checks in on me, and is like a big sibling to me. She was surprised that I didn't say my boyfriend. Yeah he's a best friend, I can't just choose one best friend, I have multiple. It just feels so elementary school to have only one best friend when you have multiple close friends.

I guess there's always at least one person you just drift closer to for a certain amount of time. But I guess a best friend means that we can talk to each other about weird, serious, and even scary things. When we see each other we can smile, wave, announce each other's arrivals even, just be happy to see each other.

There's way more to that, but that's all I can define. A best friend is someone who I can rely on and feel safe with. I know the people who I see as my best friend won't see me as their "ultimate best friend" and that's okay. As long as I'm their friend, that's okay with me.

I bet DUI arrests were down to zero post St Patrick’s day (yesterday). 2:45am. Bars would have been closed 45 minutes. Now, post Corona Virus lockdown, they never opened./// Wonder how much drinking is going on at home? The Grocery Store Liquor aisle is the hungry ghost’s new King! So glad that I’m sober through this. My sister even sited my “Not Drinking” as a reason I will probably survive this. That, and “you are in good shape”.///There is no cure or vaccine for CV20.///It’s amazing how scared I am. Does everyone feel this fear?/// But, I also feel calm.///end of this part of the entry

Note: one definition of “hungry ghost” is that a person greedy in life and not willing to share food with those in need will, after death, come back as a hungry ghost. My take on this is that when the bars died due to Covid lockdown, drinkers, hungry ghosts for alcohol, had to resort to liquor aisles.

Think we’re roaring

So, it is not uncommon for finals week to see a few fire alarms pulled. It’s kind of traditional to get one or two.

It is two days into finals, and nearly every classroom building on central campus has had a fire alarm, and today we seem to be starting over again at the beginning of the list.

Also, the grad students have been striking for three weeks (and getting better at their chants the whole time, baby’s first labor action, they’re so adorable), and last night two got detained by the cops, so today campus was wallpapered with posters denouncing the uni president.

Maintenance has been going through and removing the ones that weren’t posted on an actual posting board.

But the point is, you know, I think we’re reaching the roaring part, the part where everyone is so scared and angry and fed the fuck up that it has to come out somehow.
