RUES DE PARIS: THE BEST STREET STYLE LOOKS FROM PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S 2021

Once again, the streets of France’s capital city were filled with fashion-goers bringing their best street style, and donning the latest trends. Paris Fashion Week attendees wore tones like camel and grey, sprinkled with splashes of gold, reds, and blues. Popular clothing choices for the season included slouchy blazers, cinched waists and structures separates. Plush leather handbags, dainty clutch bags and oversized totes hung on the arms of the fashion lovers, in a wide array of pastel and natural shades. Paris Fashion Week S/S 2021 Courtesy of Issey Miyake by Satoshi Kondo In the style of Alex Kim

Annotation: For Paris Fashion week Spring/Summer 2021 I chose ‘Issey Miyake’s collection by Satoshi Kondo’. I chose this as I was inspired by Kondo’s consideration on the “almost impossible” and I also think that the idea of the collection being able to disassemble, fold or roll so that it is easy to transport around the world is also encouraging. Furthermore, unlike most designers Kondo has stuck to Issey Miyake’s original designs, but adding his own spin to them such like zippers and ropes. I decided to pair Satoshi’s catwalk look with the fashion illustrator Alex Kim (@akimdesigns) as she takes a simple body and adds watercolour and keeps the face plane so that the attention is on the garment rather than other features. Keeping it quite simple, I sketched out the bodice and the garment, then using watercolour I painted it and outline using a black fine liner for the smaller details. For the background I used a tanned watercolour and then ripped up old news paper to create the Eiffel tower and I also used this to place my Alex Kim inspired piece on.

I have also attached a slide which consists of the Issey Miyake and Satoshi Kondo garment that I have based my Paris fashion week on. It also includes some information that I have put together that I found useful and interesting when i was researching the look.

Overall, I think my creation for the Paris Fashion week S/S 2021 was successful as I was able to create a an illustration in the style of Alex Kim but using the image and garment of Satoshi Kondo. I also think that I chose the correct media to show this and by using this media I have become more confident when experimenting. However, next time I could enlarge my creation so that I can add more details to the piece.
