ANOTHER ONE BABE
what is your ideal vacation with your favorite pedro characters?
like is dave york a beach guy? is joel a remote cozy cabin in the forest kinda guy? WE NEED TO KNOW
OMG THIS IS SO HARD 😭😭😭 okay 3 different types of vacation for 4 favorite Pedro boys
1. Sweet mid-autumn cabin vacation with Joel 🧡 The trees are yellow, but it’s not too cold to hide in side the house yet. I would chill outside watching him chop the wood, and then wed have slow lazy sex in front of the fireplace 😍
2. Soft summer in an Italian countryside with Dave. We pick peaches, ride bikes to the lake and fuck on every surface. He remembers what it’s like to relax and live again 🥹
3. Beach holiday with Frankie and Oberyn 🤭 We just have all types of sex on the beach all day every day 😏😏 and then we just watch the sunset entangled in each other MFM style 😏🥵🥹

hinata shoyo | brazil
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when hinata shoyo sets foot in a foreign country for the first time, he is a teenager just shy of 17, with dreams a little too big and height a little too short. he is greeted by the oceanic breeze, the warmth of the unbridled sunlight prickling the back of his neck. a melody of unknown voices intermingles with his own, japanese vowels rolling off his tongue through portuguese accents.
his smile falters as soon as pedro quietly disappears inside his bedroom after saying hello, leaving hinata alone in the unknown apartment. in the empty living room, hinata stands too big, all alone.
from the lockscreen of his phone, yachi and yamaguchi’s bright grins as well as kageyama and tsukishima’s pouts look back at him, frozen in a time shoyo can feel slip from beneath his fingertips. nostalgia stabs at his chest until emptiness dries out his tears, until exhaustion heavily piles up upon his eyelids. on that first night, shoyo falls asleep with a hole in his heart, forehead pressed against his knees, curled up in a corner of the room that feels nothing like his own. he is out of place.
and yet, shoyo gets up. day after day, he pushes himself a little further off the ground. at the seaside, he begins playing beach volleyball with sand-scraped knuckles, and inextinguishable hunger coursing through his veins. he delivers food to earn a little money, he meets new team-mates, he laughs anew and puts renewed effort into working out; he calls his friends from the other side of the world. portuguese grammar manuels and fitness books alike are stacked up on his desk.
it is not in vain, he thinks, feet firmly set on the pedals of his bike. i will get there, he thinks, riding up the hilly streets.

Nobody but You: Chapter One
~   ~   ~
“Dress comfortable,” Pedro’s voice is smooth in my ear.
I roll my eyes and groan. “Dress comfortably? Really?”
Pedro laughs, “we’re going somewhere exciting! Though it’s little bit of a car ride, but I promise – it’ll be worth it.”
I sigh lightly, “alright. Okay.”
“Great! I will pick you up around three on Saturday. See you then!”
“See you then,” I remark before I’m listening to nothing.
I place my phone on the counter as my heartbeat returns to normal. Or I think it does.
Pedro and I are going on a date. A date. A date?
Oh, fuck. What have I gotten myself into?
I sigh as I finish my dinner of leftover Chinese food from a couple of days ago. Work’s been busy for the last few weeks. Pedro and I haven’t had time to see one another privately. He was called out to California for The Mandalorian and I got pulled into a project at work so the only thing we could do for the last few weeks was talk on the phone.
I had thought about the kiss we shared for days on end, still think about it now. My mind had wondered endlessly about his hands roaming my body – traveling over my skin, touching every curve.
I had moaned thinking about him sitting at my desk one day and Kay looked over at me with a raised brow.
“What ya thinking about?” She had asked.
“Nothing,” I had mumbled.
She had smirked and laughed, “thinking about the kiss?”
I had rolled my eyes, “whatever Kay.”
She had giggled lightly and returned to her work.
Now I hover my thumb above her name in my phone. I press the green button and place the call on speaker.
“Y/N!” Her voice is full of sunshine and rainbows.
“Kay,” I sigh.
“What’s wrong?” Her voice turns to concern instantly.
“Pedro told me to dress comfortably for our date. Which could mean anything!”
“He say anything else?”
“Bit of a car ride.”
Kay sighs, “could mean anything sweetie! Maybe to throw you off?!”
“I don’t know what to wear!” I sigh in frustration.
“It’s springtime Y/N! Dress for warm weather but maybe cool weather too. Maybe some capris or comfy jeans and a comfy top. Make sure you take a jacket. Your phone, some money, a condom.” Kay snickers.
“Oh my god! Really Kay?”
“What?” She nearly shrieks in laughter. “Always be prepared sweetie!”
I blush and sigh, “thanks for the help.”
“You’re welcome! Maybe I should stop by Friday night?”
“You have a date. Don’t skip it on my account.”
Kay smiles, “text me pics of some outfits! Love ya sweetie!”
“Love you too. Bye.”
I walk to my bedroom, turn towards my closet. I open the door and look at all the hanging clothes.
I sigh heavily. I don’t know where to begin.
-------
Pedro parks the car he’s borrowing along the curb outside Y/N’s building. He checks his watch, notices it’s only 2:30. He’s early but he couldn’t wait to lay his eyes on her.
He hasn’t seen her in a few weeks and missed her every day. Missed her soft mouth, her plush curves. Missed her eyes looking at him in bewilderment after they shared a kiss in her apartment.
The kiss. Pedro’s mind thinks of the moment he brushed his mouth against hers. He had been waiting a long time to do so. Was afraid of what her reaction would be.
Pedro and Y/N’s friendship had blossomed out of a chance meeting inside a bookstore. He had liked her instantly with her dazzling eyes, beautiful smile, and quiet laugh. He had wanted more with her back then, but he settled on being friends.
He watched as men walked into her life then left just as quickly. He had sat with her, helped her eat ice cream and watch sappy movies. He had gone out with her and Kay to drink to get her mind off the broken heart. He had watched other guys approach her, make her smile, make her laugh. He had hated himself for not stepping up and making it known he wanted her sooner than now.
Pedro gets out of the car and heads inside the building. He makes his way up and knocks on her door.
“Hold on!” Comes her muffled voice from the other side.
Seconds later Y/N opens the door and smiles widely, “Pedro.”
Pedro steps in and cups her cheeks. He brushes his mouth along hers. He pulls her close and deepens the kiss.
Y/N puts her arms around Pedro, returning the kiss as eagerly as he is. She moans lightly against his mouth as his tongue sweeps across her soft lips. She lets him in, and Pedro returns the light moan.
Pedro and Y/N stand wrapped in one another as they let their mouths fuse together, soaking in one another after weeks apart.
-------
Pedro’s plush lips are soft against mine as he kisses me deeply. His tongue dances with mine as his arms tighten around me. I never want to let him go.
I need to breathe. I pull faintly away and smile.
“Pedro,” I sigh happily.
He smiles at me as he runs a finger across my lips. “I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
Pedro looks me over.
I am dressed in comfortable blue jeans and a cotton purple shirt (approved by Kay), along with a light jacket. I was dressed and ready to go hours ago. I had spent most of the day staring at my phone and catching up on some T.V. I was aching to see him, to touch him, to know this is real. To know what we are doing today is real. A date. An actual date with the man standing before me.
My eyes roam his body. He’s dressed comfortable as well. A loose-fitting short sleeve maroon button down top, khaki shorts, and a pair of TOMS. A pair of sunglass sits atop his head.
“You look overly comfy,” I mutter.
Pedro shrugs, “I know where we are going.”
I laugh and grin, “well I don’t mister. So, if I am wearing the wrong thing you better tell me now.”
Pedro grabs my hand and kisses the top of it. “You’ll be fine. Are you ready?”
“Yes,” I sigh making sure to check my pockets. Phone, money, condom. I make sure it’s tucked tightly in my jeans. There’s no way in hell this man needs to know I have one – but hey, you never know.
Pedro pulls me towards the landing, “let’s go then. Come on!”
“Okay,” I smile as I close the door behind us and lock it.
We walk down flights of stairs and into the warm air and shining sun of a Brooklyn spring. I’m able to smell fumes and gasoline but I can also make out the smell of cherry blossoms. My street is adorned with the beautiful blossoming white petal trees.
Pedro pulls me towards a car I’ve never seen before.
“You’re driving?”
“Hey now! Just cause I’m a New Yorker doesn’t mean I can’t drive.” He laughs as he walks over to the driver’s side, placing the sunglasses over his eyes.
“Mhm,” I hum under my breath.
The thought of him driving might’ve crossed my mind but I guess our date is a bit of drive. He wasn’t throwing me off when he told me that tidbit of information when he called a couple of days ago.
Pedro looks at me and smiles, “we want to get going Y/N. We need to get a good spot.”
I sigh and open the passenger side door. I slide in as he does the same.
Pedro starts the car, “buckle up. Safety first.”
“Of course, mister Pascal,” I remark sarcastically as I grab the seat belt and buckle it, “definitely going to need it.”
Pedro grins and shakes his head. “Find some music. I’m the pilot and you’re the D.J.”
I smile as I turn on the radio and we begin the car ride to the surprise he has waiting.
*
Two hours later Pedro pulls off the highway and drives through Southampton. People are walking the streets, carrying chairs and coolers, making their way towards the beach.
Pedro looks over at me and smiles, “concert on the beach.”
I look over and smile back, “my kind of night.”
“I have a few things in the trunk too.”
“Like bikes?” I joke. “Parking’s horrendous.”
“We’ll be fine,” Pedro remarks as he pulls into a parking lot near the beach.
“You know it says customers only,” I point out the sign.
Pedro grabs my hand and kisses it, “it’s fine.”
I roll my eyes, “says the man, who when we come back, won’t have a car.”
“Trust me. We are fine. We’ll have a ride home.”
Pedro parks the car and gets out. He walks back to the trunk as I get out of the car. He notices my eyes go wide as I notice what’s inside.
“A picnic Pedro?” I whisper.
He opens the cooler and basket, “with some of your favorite junk food, and mine. Grab something, please.”
Pedro and I grab things from the trunk, close it then make our way down the street and towards the throng of people. Towards the laughter and chaos of people finding spots to set their chairs, lay their blankets. Children running after one another, some splashing into the crystal blue waters of the ocean.
I smell the ocean air as we make our way towards the far end of the beach. I notice couples sitting up their own little picnics, smiling at one another, kissing each other lightly.
“Perfect,” Pedro grins as he finds a spot with not many people around.
“You sure we going to hear the band from back here?” I ask with a smile.
Pedro brushes my lips, “I’m sure.”
We unfold the blankets and lay them down.
“Good evening Southampton!” A voice carries down to our ears from the stage.
The crowd erupts in cheers.
“This special concert is for all you wonderful people! Here they are, our favorite local band Exit 32!”
The crowd erupts again as music begins playing from the stage.
-------
Pedro watches her smile and move to the music. She’s carefree and beautiful.
He smiles to himself wondering why he hadn’t had the courage before now, well before a few weeks ago to ask her out. It appeared she never wanted more with him, yet he did but the night at the bar when she had turned her back on him and walked away, he desperately hoped she’d turn around. But she didn’t.
He had hated seeing her sad, hated seeing her heart get broken. Didn’t like the men who used her then walked away with caring about her and her feelings. In the years Pedro had known Y/N, he had never seen her truly happy with a man, and he wanted to be the one to change it for her. He wanted to be the forever man, the one to be with her for the rest of her days.
Pedro opens the cooler and hands her some food.
She smiles widely, “thank you.”
Pedro and Y/N settle in for the evening. Listening to the music of the band playing anything from country to pop, hip-hop to classical. They watch people dance and laugh, hear people sing along to their favorite songs.
They enjoy being in the presence of one another as they take in the sights, sounds, and smells of their first date.
-------
The sun begins to sink behind us, and I try to sear everything to my memory. I don’t want to forget this date. The best first date, in my opinion, of my life. It was perfect.
Listening to a local band, sitting on the beach, enjoying junk food. Being with someone I want to be with because I want to be with them. Not someone who will eventually toss me aside.
My mind starts racing at this thought. I need to push it aside.
Pedro and I have been friends for years, he would never do such a thing. Would he? He wouldn’t! My mind is firm in this accusation.
Pedro wouldn’t toss me aside after…
He’s seen me through many heartbreaks. Sat with me in my apartment eating from ice cream containers watching sappy movies with me. Listening to me cry and groan over the most mundane things a romantic movie could do to make people feel happy. He’d tell me there are more fish in the sea, others who will see me for me.
No, I think, Pedro wouldn’t toss me aside. He knows how my heart will break if he does.
I’d lose him forever. I’d lose a friend, a close friend. I’d never recover from a broken heart if Pedro was the one doing the breaking.
“Want to dance?” Pedro’s voice interrupts my fast thinking thoughts of negativity and doubt.
I clear my head. The music the band is playing sounds familiar to me. It’s soft and romantic. It’s “Just a Kiss” by Lady Antebellum.
“Yes,” I whisper as I take Pedro’s outstretched hand.
Lyin' here with you so close to me It's hard to fight these feelings when it feels so hard to breathe Caught up in this moment Caught up in your smile
Pedro wraps his arms around me then runs the back of one hand down my cheek. Goosebumps cover my flesh instantly. His coffee colored eyes look at me, look into me.
I've never opened up to anyone So hard to hold back when I'm holding you in my arms We don't need to rush this Let's just take it slow
His lips are pillow soft as they sweep against mine. His hand travels into my hair as he pulls me closer to deepen the kiss. My hands travel up his arms, across his broad shoulders. I loop them around his neck as my fingers weave themselves through his hair.
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright No I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight
My body is flooding with heat and pleasure. I’ve never felt more alive and beautiful in this moment. Pedro’s awakening me in ways I never thought possible. I want him, need him. I never want to let him go.
I know that if we give this a little time It'll only bring us closer to the love we wanna find It's never felt so real, no it's never felt so right
Pedro’s free hand is traveling down my side. It’s light but I still feel his touch through my clothes. He goes over the curve of my stomach, the thickness of my hip. Waves of goosebumps keep covering my skin. I shiver in his arms and he pulls me closer without removing his mouth from mine.
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright No I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight
I am lost. I don’t want to be found. I never want to be found. Being lost in Pedro’s embrace and kiss is exhilarating and adding to the heat and pleasure already pulsating through my body.
No I don't want to say goodnight I know it's time to leave, but you'll be in my dreams
Tonight Tonight Tonight
The world is turning around us, but Pedro and I are frozen in this moment. We are oblivious to the world. I don’t care, he doesn’t care. In this precise moment, it’s us. It’s him and I. There’s no one else for me, I want there to be no one else. I need there to be no one else. Pedro is the one. I feel it in my gut and when you feel it in your gut you know it’s the right instinct to follow.
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright No I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, oh, let's do this right, with just a kiss goodnight With a kiss goodnight Kiss goodnight
Pedro pulls faintly away. We are both breathless.
He traces a thumb over my swollen lips, “beautiful.”
I blush and try to hide my face, but he cups my cheek and makes me look at him.
“You are Y/N,” Pedro whispers, “there’s no one else I’d rather with than you.”
My heart’s already pounding inside of my chest.
“Pedro,” is all I’m able to muster as I smile at him.
Pedro leans down and whispers, “I need you Y/N. I want to take you home and have you.”
I swallow, knowing the drive back to Brooklyn is going to be the longest car ride of my life.

Todos Santos gets a teeny tiny fraction of the visitors of Cabo San Lucas, plus many of the people who do visit are just there on a day trip. This is one of the most interesting destinations in Baja, however, and definitely a place worth spending two or three nights in. There's plenty to do in this area, especially if you connect with Todos Santos Eco Adventures.
We have mentioned this company a couple times before. I first did some mountain bike riding as part of this Baja adventure tour years ago, then one of our contributors went on their memorable Isla Espiritu Santos kayaking and glamping adventure. They have one of the best reputations of any tour operator in the Baja Peninsula and they offer all kinds of multi-day trips from their home base, across the mountains, and around La Paz.
I stayed put when I went to visit them on their home turf, however, wanting to really get a feel for the Todos Santos area. My wife was with me on this trip and we shared a lovely room at Los Colibris Casitas, the guesthouse they own. Here was the view from our terrace:
We went on two great adventures while we were there, both of them starting just a few minutes' drive away from Los Colibris.
First we went on a horseback riding adventure that started near the oasis area of Todos Santos. It went through an impressive array of microclimates as we rode along, from mossy trees and marshes to forest to beach to cacti-studded mountains. The horses were docile and patient with us as we rode along the lagoon and the Pacific Ocean and then climbed up over rocky paths into the hills and back down.
What was even more surprising was what we saw on our hiking trip the next day. We set off in a van to the starting point, which was just down the hill and to the end of a long beach. We climbed up from there and got a terrific view of the beach, then walked along some dramatic cliffs that wouldn't be out of place in northern California or even Scotland. If it had been earlier in the year we might have seen lots of whales offshore, but most of them had already headed north at this point in late April, so we just saw one water spout in the distance.
While this is a rather sleepy area now apart from a few residents, expats, and some tourists, it played a key role in history for a while. Back in the mid-1800s, ships heading to or from California for the gold rush would sail into the little bay near Todos Santos at the top of this post to pick up supplies from the oasis. This was one of the few spots along the coast with fresh water, fruit, and vegetables. Mules would make the trek over the hills like we did on foot.
After passing several small bays and inlets, we rounded a corner and found San Pedro beach stretched out before us. Since you can only get there on foot, it was almost empty. After splashing in the surf a bit, we walked to the other end of the beach where a picnic lunch was waiting for us, supplied by Todos Santos Eco Adventures. After we had our fill, we walked out past a marsh to a waiting van and came back to Los Colibris for an afternoon of lazing by the pool. Take a video tour to get a taste of both days:
youtube
If you're headed to Los Cabos at some point and looking for an adventurous getaway, rent a car and drive the main road north to Todos Santos. It's a whole different look and experience, especially if you go exploring by hiking or on horseback.

Life is Like Riding a Horse
Tumblr media
I went horseback riding for the first time the other day. At least I think it was my first time. I have one other memory of riding a horse, but it’s from so long ago there’s an 80% chance it was just a vivid dream. So, for simplicity sake, we’ll call this my maiden voyage.
I was in Portugal at this amazing resort for my dear friend’s wedding, glancing through the list of activities offered when I noticed horseback riding. My girlfriend is a champion hunter-jumper and grew up around horses, so I was eager to share in her passion and figured this was my time to begin the learning curve.
Thankfully my teacher/guide did not speak good English. Thankfully? Yes, thankfully. Something beautiful happens when you don’t speak a language well—you’re forced to explain things in the simplest way possible. When you have mastery over words, it can be far too enticing to over complicate and convolute matters since it becomes equally important you sound intelligent and accomplished. If you’re not already re-analyzing my writing style you should be. Now back to the horses.
Pedro, my guide, brings out this sweet horse named Doctor for me to learn on in the ring before we go for a long ride through the countryside. Doctor is 18, which I believe equates to 465 years old in horse years, so he’s very wise—and tired. Perfect for learning. Gathering most of my horse knowledge from my grandfather’s obsession with Gun Smoke, I was expecting a giant Western saddle. A veritable throne atop this horse that would secure me for the ride like a Formula 1 driver. I got a blanket. “You ride no saddle, feel horse and movement,” said Pedro. So, I step into his weathered hands and mount this majestic beast.
Step #1: Posture. “Sit up, shoulders back, kidney out.” That was Pedro’s first rule as he begins leading Doctor around in a circle with me on top. Granted, I’m not exactly sure where my kidneys are located, but I got the gist. I knew better than to ask him when the right time was to hunch. “You keep posture all time.” Okay life, what are you trying to say? What does it mean to maintain proper posture in life?
Like many Americans, I used to physically hunch a lot. I blame laptop computers and yogurt. Recently I’ve noticed those back contraptions that somewhat resemble straight jackets becoming all the rage on Amazon. They force your shoulders back and chest out. Lately I’ve been more aware of this in my life, consciously fixating on my posture more than usual. Two things happened. First, I felt more confident. And second, people kept saying “I didn’t realize how tall you are.” Both good reasons to keep this trend going. But posture means so much more in life than just the physical.
By definition, “posture” means the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting. The world of medicine tells us that proper physical posture relieves stress and prevents injury. Posture in life means gratitude, mindfulness, vitality and faith. Heart, mind, body and soul. By focusing on these we position ourselves to avoid the stress and pain that circumstances will inevitably bring. It’s not an occasional focus. In the words of Pedro, “you keep posture all time.” Personally, I do this in the morning. My practice includes Tibetan breathing exercises, gratitude, visualization, and prayer. I call it my Complete Morning. Choose what works for you, but make sure you include your heart, mind, body and soul. When I skip a day, I feel out of alignment—and you can’t ride life that way.
Step #2: Relax. “Relax legs.” This was Pedro’s command as we began trotting and my legs instinctively gripped Doctor’s belly for support. I’m riding bareback on an animal whose power is the measurement of car engines and I’m supposed to relax? Easier said than done. While gripping and trotting I was given a very bumpy ride. But the more I relaxed my legs, the more my body began to move in sync with Doctor.
I’ve had many bumpy rides in life: failed projects, broken relationships, physical illness, etc. The experience was always bumpier when I tensed up and tried to hold onto something for support. You must act counter to your instinct and relax. However, relaxing only works when your posture is aligned. If I were to have relaxed while hunched over on Doctor, I guarantee you bad things would have happened. You can only relax when you’re in the right position.
When I have Complete Mornings, I find myself laughing, not yelling, when someone cuts me off on the freeway. Whatever circumstances come my way that day, posture allows me to relax and let it wash over me rather than throw me off the horse.
Step #3: Unity. “You and horse are one, not separate.” Once my body was in the right position and I had relaxed everything, I no longer felt I was riding Doctor. We were just one unit moving around in circles. There was an energetic connection between us that disposed of physical boundaries. My body moved in sync with his as we progressed to gallop. Pedro didn’t even need to tell me to put my shoulders back as we ran, I did it automatically because I was connected to my partner in this journey.
When we maintain our posture and relax, we move in sync with life. No longer resisting the bumps, accelerations or decelerations. Embracing each as it comes, no longer separate. It’s easy to feel lonely in life. Disconnected. Believing no one understands us. Only when we are aligned and relaxed can we truly connect with life and everyone else in it. Moving in sync as a society.
Step #4: Let go. So here we are, Doctor and I running around in circles together moving as one when Pedro says, “take one hand off ring and put behind back.” Come again? Though my posture was aligned, my legs were relaxed, and we were moving as one, I was still holding onto this ring attached to the blanket as a fail-safe. I mean, I could fall off at any moment, so best to hold on just in case. “Take hand off!” I remove my hand and put it behind my back, still holding on with the other. “Now switch hands.” I switch. “Now both hands behind back.” Doctor and I are trotting around in circles bouncing together like we’re on a trampoline and I’m supposed to completely let go?! So, I do. We gallop around in circles connected by little more than energy and my ass—yet it was seamless.
The best adventures in life don’t come our way like the next vine. If we’re Tarzan swinging through life from vine to vine, relationship to relationship, career to career, we can only get so far grabbing the next closest, safest vine. The greatest experiences in life require us to let go of the vine we’re holding onto and stretch as far as we can for the one that can take us higher and further. For a moment, we’re suspended in air. Held by nothing but the momentum created by our leap. That’s how life works.
The universe rewards trust. Every major decision I’ve made in life from quitting law and starting a tech company to risking humiliation in meeting incredible people, there has been a moment of letting go. When crossing a chasm in life you can only build a bridge so far. The gap that remains requires letting go and making the leap. You must let go before you can take control.
Step #5: Take the reins. Our lesson was complete. I had successfully maintained my posture, relaxed, become one with Doctor and physically let go as we galloped around. I was ready for our ride. Pedro tells me to rest for fifteen minutes while he takes Doctor back to the stables and saddles up Latinas, a younger horse who will have more energy for our 8-kilometer ride.
This time I’m given an English saddle (think a slightly enlarged beach-cruiser bike seat with a small leather strap in front masquerading as a handle) and reins. Pedro delivers a 30-second crash course in accelerating, braking and steering. “Pull back to stop. Open left arm go left. Open right arm go right. Squeeze legs go faster. Let’s go.” I spent thirty minutes going in circles with no control, focused only on posture, relaxation, unity and letting go—now we’re off and running, literally, with hardly any training on speed and control. But again, that’s life.
The hardest part is maintaining your posture, staying relaxed, connecting with life, and letting go. Then once you’re off and running, steering is the easy part. At some points in life you’ll need to move fast. Others you’ll need to slow down. You’ll fail going one direction and shift course. You’ll fail again and shift a little more. Life itself will start going a different direction because it saw a delicious purple flower covered in thorns that it just had to eat and you’re wondering how the hell this thing can eat thorns… and then you’ll need to gently guide it back on course. But if you maintain your posture, stay relaxed, connect with life and keep letting go, you’ll experience the most invigorating ride imaginable.
So that’s what Latinas and I did. Together. Exploring the enormous Portuguese farm on the border of Spain taking in the picturesque beauty that has inspired centuries of artists and writers.
Well… what are you waiting for? Go take a ride.

Los Angeles, CA — As the Free Thought Project has reported extensively, police officers, even when found at fault for their abusive actions, are almost never held personally liable. It is the taxpayers who foot the bill. However, a new trend in accountability seems to be on the rise, and will be massively more effective at curbing police brutality than any system in place right now.
The most recent case of a police officer being held personally liable comes out of Los Angeles, where former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca must decide within a week whether to pay $100,000 in damages — stemming from a civil lawsuit involving an inmate abuse case — or face liens on his assets, an attorney for the inmate said Friday, according to the LA Times.
The damages are from a 2013 judgment against Baca, three other deputies, and a captain. In that case, inmate Tyler Willis proved to a jury that he was punched and kicked repeatedly, shot with a Taser multiple times and struck “numerous times” in the ankle with a heavy metal flashlight, causing fractures and head injuries.
After a brief trial, the jury returned a verdict in Willis’ favor and held Baca personally liable. However, Baca, with the power of the police union, fought the ruling for the last 4 years, calling the idea of a police officer being held personally liable a “huge mistake.”
We disagree.
When police officers actually fear the loss of their own money, they may think twice before savagely beating a handcuffed woman or breaking into the wrong house and killing the innocent owner.
In spite of never winning an appeal, Baca has refused to pay and now Willis’ attorney is going one step further.
“Baca has to pay up or we will proceed to collect in debtors court,” Samuel Paz, an attorney for Willis said. “If necessary we will go forward with proceedings to identify his assets and place liens to collect on the debt.”
For those unfamiliar with the former sheriff, he was forced to resign in 2014 amid a massive scandal involving the horrendous abuse of inmates in his jail. While Baca quietly retired and skated out on punishment, more than two dozen of his underlings were convicted on criminal charges for their role in the abuse. Baca claims he had no idea that dozens of his employees were carrying out the abuse right under his nose for more than a decade.
Baca wasn’t the only officer held personally responsible in the 2013 lawsuit either. Anthony Vasquez, Mark Farino and Pedro Guerrero, and Daniel Cruz were found to be “malicious, oppressive or [act] in reckless disregard” of Willis’ rights.
Last week, all four of the officers agreed to pay $65,000 — their portion of the $165,000 lawsuit. However, Baca has continued to refuse.
It seems that Baca, who is currently drawing a $328,000 annual pension for the rest of his life — in spite of being a terrible cop — is holding out for the county to use taxpayer money.
However, in court documents, the county has noted that they have no intention of paying for Baca’s abuse.
This is the second such case in only weeks, in which cops are being forced to come out of pocket after being found at fault in a lawsuit. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Lin’s case was a bit more extreme than Baca’s, however.
In 2013, Lin spotted 19-year-old Dontrell Stephens in a “high-crime area” — the man’s own low-income neighborhood — riding a bicycle in a manner the deputy found suspicious.
Lin stopped the youth, who dismounted the bike with a cell phone in his hand and slowly approached the officer. Just outside the range of dash cam video, the officer shot Stephens four times — claiming he was in fear for his life — but footage and evidence clearly showed the claim to be baseless.
Three of the bullets remain lodged in Stephens’ body, according to the Sun Sentinel — two in his arm and one in his spine, which left him paralyzed and dependent on a wheelchair for mobility.
Stephens won a massive $22.4 million settlement and U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Seltzer ruled that Lin should foot at least a portion of the bill. Last month, nearly everything this officer owned was seized to pay back Stephens — including everything from his furniture to his clothing.
Lin will most assuredly think twice before shooting another unarmed teen.
As for Baca, however, it appears he has yet to learn his lesson and will have to be forced by the court to pay.
Imagine, for a moment, the result of all police officers being held personally liable for their actions. In nearly every other profession on the planet, if someone hurts someone else while on the job, they are held liable — personally. Why can’t cops carry personal liability insurance just like doctors?
As instances of police brutality and police killings continue to be exposed, there is no doubt that the US is in dire need of reform. The simple requirement for police to be insured for personal liability is an easy fix — especially to remove repeat offenders from the force.

Escape to Baja: Three Blissed-Out Days Touring Mexico on a Harley-Davidson
-
Germans. It was always Germans. Germans on Harleys in the desert. A platoon of friendly dudes taking a break from the Fatherland to explore the arid expanses of the American Southwest on big old Yankee bikes, V-twins shimmering in the heat. To a man, they’d be swaddled in EagleRider jackets. They’d come over, rent bikes from the company, maybe take a guided tour up Route 66. Hang out with donkeys in Oatman, Arizona, and see the Grand Canyon. For them, it’s like a foot-to-the-floor autobahn run in a Porsche 911 Turbo would be to an American. But EagleRider doesn’t just run tours of the dry, empty corners of America. They’ve got guides and locations dotting the globe. So when they asked if I wanted to go for a ride down the Pacific Coast, I asked, “What about Baja?”
-
-
I grew up on Highway 1: traveled every inch from Leggett down to Dana Point. Summer vacations in Fort Bragg, quick getaways to Bodega Bay or Santa Cruz. The yearly automotive bacchanal at Pebble Beach; PCH as a route to LAX and south to Orange County when I lived in San Pedro. I love 1, but 1 is mine any time I have a free day and the inclination to see the ocean. So we went to Mexico, somewhere I’d never been, despite having resided my entire life within a day’s drive of the border.
-
Since EagleRider offers a selection of motorcycles biased heavily in favor of American iron, I went as heavy and American as I could get, choosing a Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited, a loaded version of Harley’s classic Electra Glide touring bike, 904 pounds of the Motor Company’s classic touring setup. Batwing fairing, 103-cubic-inch twin-cam pushrod V-twin with a couple of radiators discreetly tucked into the fairing lowers, side cases, and a capacious top trunk with a rack. Indian’s recent entry into the heavy-touring segment, the Roadmaster, is flashier—simultaneously more modern and more baroque—but the Hog is an institution.
-
After a night at La Jolla’s Lodge at Torrey Pines, we picked up our bikes at EagleRider’s San Diego location, which doubles as an Indian dealership, and rumbled down I-5 to the border, winding through the Mexican checkpoint maze without much more than a glance from the guards. Free, we trundled south to Rosarito for coffee and pastries. EagleRider’s excitable CEO, Chris McIntyre, was bopping around, wide-eyed and thrilled, backslapping and high-fiving. We sat by a midmorning campfire on a cliff and sipped bottled water and excellent joe. I could’ve spent the rest of the day right there, staring out at the still, aquamarine expanse of the sea.
-
-
Back on the bikes, we wound our way inland. The storms that have spent the winter pummeling California have zero regard for international borders. Therefore, the lush-seeming hills were probably about as verdant as they ever get. The pace set by the guides was reasonable, none of the other riders felt compelled to hot-dog, and I was starting to feel really comfortable with the big Harley. It doesn’t have a Honda Gold Wing’s low-speed stability or take a set in high-speed corners quite like Moto Guzzi’s off-the-wall MGX-21 bagger, but there’s a sense on the Electra Glide that you’re riding a damn motorcycle that’s impossible to discount.
-
We parked the bikes in a dirt turnout and traveled by van and Jeep up a dirt road to La Estancia, a middle-of-nowhere rancho that apparently booms on the weekend. Lunch was lazy and delicious; the subsequent ride to Ensenada was a blissed-out, leisurely ramble.
-
-
We wandered Ensenada after dinner. It was the off season; the town was quiet, the weather temperate. Kyra Sacdalan and Justin Coffey, a professional moto-adventure couple and veterans of the peninsula, showed us the starting line of the Baja 1000, then took us to the capacious Papas & Beer, which was utterly devoid of people, followed by a bar down the street where it’s claimed the margarita was invented. Hussong’s wasn’t exactly hopping, but there was enough of a crowd to keep the mariachi bands circulating. A group set up next to our table. The guitarist had a little solid-state Peavey amp with an old Metal Zone distortion pedal zip-tied to the handle. A motorcycle battery supplied the power. The bass player’s upright instrument was made of unfinished plywood. The drummer had a snare, a couple of cowbells, and a crash cymbal. McIntyre overeagerly called for Pink Floyd. I cringed a little. I felt like a gringo.
-
They launched into a shockingly great rendition of “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2).” A man came around with a pair of electrified metal tubes. The goal was to hold on as long as possible without saying “Uncle” as he increased the power. I tapped out quickly. We dropped our peanut shells on the floor. Creedence. Santana. The drummer was slaying; the guitarist was wailing; the bassist twirled the high holy hell out of his thunderbox. These guys, without a doubt, were the most fantastic bar band I’d ever seen. I stepped out for a cigarette and remembered that the late Brock Yates had been arrested outside Hussong’s for relieving himself against the wall back in 1983. We departed in cabs for the hotel. A lone federale watched us go.
-
-
In the morning, we walked down to the marina and boarded a cabin cruiser to catch some fish and watch for whales. Photographer Todd Williams and EagleRider chief administrative officer Jeff Brown seemed to snag the majority of the yellowtail, the reeling in of which caused a great congregation of looky-loos each time. I gazed back toward the city from the ocean, wondering where in all that haze the Fender guitar factory was. Of all the guitars I own, a humble Ensenada-built Stratocaster is one of my favorites. It felt good to understand where it came from.
-
-
On our return to dry land, we hopped on the bikes, paused to wolf down some phenomenal tacos, and then made for the Valle de Guadalupe, the heart of Baja’s wine industry. Our hotel stood up a two-mile dirt road that EagleRider VP of Experience Shawn Fechter described as “pretty gnarly.” I didn’t love the hefty Harley’s behavior on dirt and gravel, so I tucked in behind Kyra and followed her line through the ruts and pits, at one point power-walking the lumbering Electra Glide within what felt like inches of an inconsiderate first-gen Honda Pilot driver, goosing the throttle and feathering the clutch to keep the bike from sliding down a silty incline into the oxidized ute. McIntyre and Justin Coffey, on the other hand, came tearing down the road, the CEO standing on the floorboards of his Harley bagger, thwacking the pipes on the ragged, undulating ground while Justin used his BMW R1200GS adventure bike in the manner the Bavarians intended.
-
-
After dinner, we gathered around an expertly constructed campfire. Fechter produced a cheapo nylon-string guitar. He kept handing me the thing. I’d noodle on it while folks talked. I quietly played the Minutemen’s “Corona” to myself, because if you’re a punker of a certain age in Mexico and somebody gives you a guitar, you’re honor bound to play “Corona,” D. Boon’s poignant sketch of honky guilt on a Baja beach. I handed the guitar back to Fechter. He played “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and a sweet little original about a video-store clerk he once knew who appeared to subsist entirely on chicharrón. He passed the guitar to another musically inclined writer and then back to me. I was at a loss. I knew nobody at a campfire wanted to hear “In a Free Land” or “Clash City Rockers.” Idea! I whanged the two-chord D-E riff and started singing, “Generals gathered in their masses . . . ”
-
Everybody joined in, “Just like witches at black masses…”
-
When in doubt, play Sabbath. A couple who’d joined our party were so inexplicably enthralled by the haphazard performance that the man called me weird and, in the next breath, suggested that he’d considered surrendering his lady friend to me for the night. Bemused, tired, and fresh out of songs, I retired to bed alone, lungs full of wood and tobacco smoke. As I drifted off, it occurred to me that I’d forgotten to play “N.I.B.”

-
The next morning took us to over the increasingly dry hills to Tecate and the U.S. border. There’s something claustrophobic and hard about Tecate; I didn’t care for it as much as Rosarito, Ensenada, or the quiet rolling of the Valle de Guadalupe. But the man at the ice-cream store was friendly, and his cool treats were welcome. At the border, Customs and Border Protection treated us suspiciously; par for the course. Welcome back to America. I turned to Coffey and asked, “Justin, why do I feel less free now that we’re back home?”
-
“Because you are.”
-
The night before, the man who’d contemplated offering me his companion—he was a stockbroker type visiting the Valle for the weekend—called Baja “the land of personal responsibility,” noting that the steps are often uneven. That you tread at your own risk. EagleRider’s guides make all of that a lot easier for Baja novices. And if the tour is all-inclusive and tightly scheduled, it also takes you to spots you’d struggle to find on your own with an entire free month on your hands. As somebody who prefers riding solo and finding his own way, I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed the experience. In fact, I had a hard time wiping a smile off my face during the entirety of my time in Mexico. Those desert-traversing Germans? They’re clearly on to something.

Best International Beach Vacations for Any Budget: From $10,000 to $1,000
For $10,000: 7 Days in Vietnam at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
Beach at the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay/Oyster
Vietnam’s gorgeous Ninh Van Bay may not not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a luxurious beach getaway. However, if you’re looking for a true escape from the ordinary, this is your place. Once you’re here, you’ll feel like you’re on a remote island.
Oh, and expect to pay for the privilege. Ninh Van Bay is an exclusive hideaway for the well-heeled, rich, and famous — and it’s only accessible by boat. Spend your days exploring sandy coves, admiring the rugged rock formations, or taking in the backdrop of lush mountains. The shallow turquoise waters are great for quick dips or testing your balance in a kayak or SUP, while the golden-sand beach is a sweet spot to hang out and take in sparkling bay views. Believe it or not, twinkling with lights and a sky full of stars, Ninh Van Bay is almost just as beautiful at night.
Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
The Water Pool Villa at the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay/Oyster
Six Senses has an upstanding reputation for being a leading wellness and luxury resort brand. Their Ninh Van Bay property is the perfect permutation of rustic and luxury without being showy. The resort is built into the lush green hill, giving guests a true feeling of being a part of the surrounding natural beauty. The 58 thatched-roof villas are stylish and chic with a rustic lean and come with kitchenettes, AC, stunning views, and a breezy open-air design — plus, one of our favorite bathrooms features: a wooden bathtub.
Included in the budget: We budgeted out our nightly stay based on the average price of Beachfront Pool Villa. You’ll get a dual-level thatch-roofed villa, private plunge pool, stunning views, and direct access to the beach. A daily breakfast buffet is included in the room rate, but we’ve also added the full board dining option, so your lunch and dinner at the resort’s three restaurants plus one drink per meal is included as well. We’ve also counted the cost of roundtrip bus and boat transfers from the airport — and you still have enough money left to use on treatments at the renowned spa, excursions, unique experiences like dining in a cave, and Vietnamese cooking classes.
For $8,000: 7 Days in the Maldives at Kandolhu
Beach at the Kandolhu Maldives/Oyster
Believe the hype: Maldives is gorgeous. It’s absolutely earned its place on the tops of travel bucket lists everywhere. The North Ari Atoll is known for its fish-filled coral reefs and we’ve picked a spot for you that’s within an hour’s boat ride from over 30 dive sites. Kandolhu Island is small, but near perfect, rimmed with a sugar sand beach on all sides and surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters. You can expect to see baby reef sharks in the shallow waters off the island, while going a little further out is rewarded with a bunch of different tropical reef fish. If you want a deeper look, trade your snorkel for scuba and get certified right at the resort. If you’re planning on taking an excursion to a local island (which we highly recommend), please be sure to pack appropriate and respectful clothing as Maldives is a conservative country.
Kandolhu Maldives
The Kandolhu Maldives/Oyster
Yeah, there’s a lot of hype around the undeniably stunning (and pricey) Gili Lankanfushi resort, but we love the quiet and intimate feel at Kandolhu. It’s also closer to the airport, which is a definite plus after a long day (or days) of flying across the globe. Like most resorts in Maldives, Kandolhu is on its own private island — in this case, it’s so small it’ll only take you a few minutes to walk from end to end. With only 30 villas in total, privacy isn’t an issue, leaving you with enough space from other guests to feel like you’ve got the island to yourself. Eat at four gourmet restaurants, borrow a book from the library to read on the white powder-sand beach, or strap on a snorkel and check out what’s swimming around the fantastic house reef.
Included in the budget: The budget includes nights in a west-facing Beach Villa sporting an outdoor bathroom with large jetted tub, in-room wine fridge, king bed, and a furnished terrace. We’ve also included the roundtrip price for seaplane flights and transport from Male airport, flights from home, and the resort’s Ultimate Inclusions package which has you covered for all meals plus over 30 international wines. Most activities offered at the resort are included.
For $5,000: 4 Days at Four Seasons in Nevis
Beach at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis/Oyster
Nevis is one-half of the Caribbean island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis. It’s a small island with a population of about 12,000, and, while tourism is big here, it hasn’t quite reached the high levels you’re used to seeing in places like the Bahamas or even Turks and Caicos. Besides, if you haven’t noticed the motif, we’re very into islands that you reach by taking a boat. If you’re not trying to fly halfway around the world to get your hands on that secluded, faraway island vibe, then head for Nevis. The beaches are calm, beautiful, and perfect for unwinding, relaxing, and forgetting about your busy life back home for a few days. If you are the type of traveler who likes to get off property and explore, head for a casual soak at the hot springs, hike up a volcano, catch wind on a sailing trip, or hop on a bike and see where the path takes you.
Four Seasons Nevis
The Ocean Pool at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis/Oyster
Prepare to have your breath taken away as your transfer boat pulls into the dock area of the Four Seasons Nevis. It’s truly postcard perfect: a romantic beachfront, well-manicured grounds, and the resort are all backed by the lush Nevis Peak. Late 2019 unveiled a heavily refreshed look that replaced classic dark wood and deep colors with white-painted wood and beachy shades like coral, sand, and seafoam. Rooms are full of natural light, contemporary beach decor, and huge flat-screen TVs. The property is expansive with a spa (ask to receive your treatment inside one of the gingerbread cottages) featuring daily group exercise classes and a pool circuit, nine tennis courts that sport three different types of turf, two pools, and three restaurants.
Included in the budget: We’ve used rates for an Ocean View Room and added roundtrip transfers from St. Kitts airport — but that’s it. You’ll have about $1500 to cover your meals, drinks, and hopefully a spa treatment and at least one day of renting out a beach cabana. Bonus: If you’re flying in from NYC, flights are cheaper, so you’ve got a little extra wiggle room in the budget to play around once you’re at the resort. We recommend trying out their new rum tasting experience, signing up for a hot sauce making class, and feasting on their Lobster Night set menu.
For $3,500: 10 Days at Ramon’s Village Resort in Belize
Beach at the Ramon’s Village Resort/Oyster
Been there and done that in Mexico? Then take the plunge and head just a little further south into Belize. This place is absolutely stunning. Don’t believe us? The water is so gorgeous here that Belize Blue was named the Pantone Color of the Year in 2020, and rumor has it that Belize’s island of San Pedro is the la isla bonita that Madonna was singing about back in the day. However, don’t expect too many frills. Much of Belize’s beauty lies in the fact that it’s low-key and rustic — both factors that make it great for that laid-back beach vacation we always say we want to take but never do. Some must-do activities while you’re here include snorkeling, cage-free swimming with sharks, visiting the tiny and magical island of Caye Caulker, hopping aboard a sunset cruise, and, if you’re a diver, a visit to the famous Blue Hole.
Ramon’s Village Resort
The Pool at the Ramon’s Village Resort/Oyster
Ramon’s Village Resort has one of the widest stretches of beachfront on San Pedro and it’s the only resort that’s close to the action in town. Rooms are located in thatched-roof duplexes and have AC but no TVs (however, you can watch the sunset from your balcony). Polynesian tiki decor runs resort-wide and adds to the island vibe. The on-site restaurant serves all meals and a bar offers up coffee drinks, smoothies, and juice by the pool. There’s also a reputable and affordable dive shop located on the end of the hotel dock for anyone who wants to get out into the warm turquoise waters.
Included in the budget: We’ve included the cost of the hotel room and return domestic flights from Belize City to San Pedro in our budget. The rest of the budget is for meals, drinks, and some activities.
For $2500: 5 Days in Aruba at Barcelo Aruba
View at the Barcelo Aruba/Oyster
Travelers looking for a break from the typical tropical vibe and constant humidity that comes with most Caribbean beach vacations should head to Aruba. Somewhat of an outlier for the region, this small island has an arid climate and is covered in succulents. Don’t worry, this desert island still has palm trees, fantastic beaches, and plenty of stuff to keep you busy should you ever tire of catching sun on the sand. For starters, the frequent tradewinds are great for kitesurfing and windsurfing, hiking and ATV rides in Arikok National Park are adventurous land activities, and there’s a fun pirate ship snorkel tour that visits a shipwreck. Shopping and restaurants are abundant in the downtown area. Check out colorful murals and sculptures throughout the artsy neighborhood of St. Nicolas, and you can learn a but about the island’s Dutch colonial history at its museums. There’s also an ostrich farm, flamingos, and a good ol’ rum tour. The best part? Aruba is outside of the hurricane belt, so you can visit year-round.
Barcelo Aruba
The Pool at the Barcelo Aruba/Oyster
Barcelos Aruba is an upscale all-inclusive whose biggest boon is its stellar location right on the stunning sand of Palm Beach. The only downside is that you’ll likely have to work some strategies to secure your beach chairs. Rooms are spacious and simple but sophisticated with tile floors, dark wood furniture, and white walls. You’ll get AC, a balcony, and comfy beds. There are seven restaurants on-site and three well-placed bars: one at the pool, one on the beach, and one in the lobby. The lagoon-style pool (and its swim-up bar) is a popular spot during the day, while nights are pretty relaxed. If you want to bump up your experience, spend a little more to upgrade to the resort’s Royal level. You’ll get free Wi-Fi, a special check-in lounge, access to top shelf liquor at the beach bar, and free room service.
Included in the budget: Since Barcelo Aruba is an all-inclusive property, there’s not much you have to worry about once you walk through the doors. You’ll get all your meals, drinks (including domestic beer, wine, and well liquor), and free rein of the resort’s pool and beach area. However, any money you spend at the casino will cost you extra.
For $1000: 3 Days in Mexico at Royal Hideaway Playacar
Beach at Royal Hideaway Playacar/Oyster
It’s no secret that we love Mexico, especially Riviera Maya, so of course we’ve worked out a way to have a luxe Mexican beach vacation without breaking the bank. Take a long weekend and head south of the border where you’ll have a quick escape full of warm water, sandy beaches, and excellent eats. Playa del Carmen is a bustling beach town with a long pedestrian-only promenade, tons of bars and restaurants, and a big, beautiful beachfront. It’s true that it’s very heavy on tourists, but there’s also some great unique activities, like an immersive dinner at the Frida Kahlo Museum that uses dishes and video mapping to tell the story of the artist’s life, or a beer walking tour with local guides. The resort we’ve picked is just an 11-minute drive from the action on Quinta Avenida (note: we didn’t include this transfer in the budget).
Royal Hideaway Playacar
The Main Pool at Royal Hideaway Playacar/Oyster
In Riviera Maya, it can feel like all-inclusive resorts are a dime a dozen, but Royal Hideaway Playacar stands out in the crowd. This adults-only beachfront property has a beautiful and calm beachfront setting and an excellent food and beverage program featuring six reservations-only gourmet restaurants, a Chef Table experience, and included top-shelf alcohol. Live in luxury as you move between the beach, the spa, three bars, and six pools. For a more active experience hop on the free non-motorized water sports, sweat it out in the gym, or get competitive in the daily activities.
Included in the budget: Since the budget for this trip is so low, there’s not a lot of extra money to play with this time. However, as this is an all-inclusive, most of your bases are covered. The budget includes room rate, all meals, all drinks (top shelf, baby!), and transfers. Searching for dates that fall on the lower end of the room rate or flight price range will give you more wiggle room, or you can just park it by the pool with a stack of books and unlimited cocktails.

Fun activities to do in Marbella with kids
If you are planning to spend a sun-soaked vacation, you should plan to visit the southern coastline in Spain. This part has great weather throughout the year, delicious food, and plenty of activities to enjoy that keep everyone busy. If you are looking for fun activities for the whole family, read here to do the best activities in Marbella with kids.
Best beaches for kids
Marbella has a wide range of sandy beaches that are suitable for going with kids. For example, Playa Fontanilla is one such beach where you can take your kids and can have fun the whole day. It is nearby the city center, just past the Marbella Marina and offers a wide range of facilities such as cafes, shops, and restaurants. The beach also offers access to public toilets. Nagueles beach is another beach popular with the families. There are numerous activities for visitors. You can hire a pedalo for fun on the water and other water sports for older children.
Funny beach Marbella amusement park
The funny beach is the place that offers fun not only for the kids but for the whole family. This is an amusement park where you can enjoy the fun of go-karting for both kids and adults. Older kids can head out to sea on a jet ski or fly board. Adults can ale enjoy a trip on a range of inflatable boats and the smaller kids can have fun on the pedal boats.
Nature at Lago de Las Tortugas (Turtle Lake)
Turtle Lake is the most important tourist destination for the entire family. There are many trees, lush foliage, and glorious mountain views. The lake is popular for the turtles. The lake is situated in Nueva Andalucía in Marbella and is also home to many water birds and fun turtles. Children can also swim in the lake and it is the best spot for enjoying a picnic in the shade on a hot summer day. You can stroll around the lake and can cross the 20-meter high dam wall that dates back to 1890.
Bulevar San Pedro Alcantara children’s playground
The boulevard in San Pedro offers three playgrounds for the kids. There are paddled hills to climb, wooden horses to ride and swing. Older children can enjoy the zip line. The boulevard is also perfect for biking and rollerblading. There is also a fancy architectural bridge that curves to match the waves and mountains of the Marbella coastline. You can enjoy beautiful and stunning sea and mountain views stretching over a series of paddling pools for the kids to splash.
Barbeque or picnic in the Parque Vigil de Quinones
It is the perfect spot for enjoying a picnic and a day out with the whole family. You can enjoy a barbeque and can relax in the shade of the trees in the park. There is a small cafeteria and children’s playground area in the park, a football pitch, boules court, and a multi-use court. The park is located at a short distance from the Marbella city center and has free entry.
Enjoy your Blanes and write your own travel itinerary by booking villas with private pool.

My Top 12 Hostels in Lisbon in 2019
Posted: 2/18/2019 | February 18th, 2019
Lisbon is known to have some of the best hostels in the world.
There are more than 100 hostels in the city and its hostels are usually always at the top of all the “best hostels” lists. Year over year, they always take home some of the top spots in the top-rated lists you see floating around the web.
As someone who’s been to Lisbon multiple times, I can always see why.
Hostels in this city just get it.
They create a warm, social atmosphere, hire friendly and outgoing staff, keep the places clean, offer tons of free food and booze (the key to any backpacker’s heart), and have super comfy beds. You can almost always find free walking tours and other activities, and/or free dinners, snacks, and drinks. This can save you tons of money.
I love every hostel I’ve stayed in here.
Each time I return, I find more and more great places to stay.
And hostels are cheap here too!
You can find dorms with 8-10 beds at about €14 ($16 USD) per night and dorms with 4-6 beds average about €18 ($21 USD) per night. You can find private dorms that sleep 2 in a double bed starting at €40 ($46 USD), with most averaging about €50 ($57 USD) per night.
So what are the best hostels in Lisbon?
Here is my list of favorites for your next visit.
12 Best Hostels in Lisbon
1. Lookout! Lisbon Hostel
This fun and social hostel has a ton of organized activities going on each week – and they even give you free sangria! There’s also a free breakfast buffet. The kitchen and lounge areas always have people around, but it’s not so much a party place – the staff makes sure the hostel is quiet after 11:30pm. There is a free flea market walking tour, as well as a whole host of other paid excursions like surf lessons, beach days, and bicycle rides. You’re a 5-minute walk from Bairro Alto bars, vintage markets, supermarkets, and all-you-can-eat sushi (plus tons of other restaurants).
Beds from €11 EUR ($13 USD). Cash only.
—-> Click here to book your stay at Lookout! Lisbon Hostel!
2. Lisboa Central Hostel
Bright, spacious rooms welcome you here where the beds are comfy and equipped with outlets for you too. Run by a local Portuguese family, the staff here is extremely knowledgeable about the city and can give you great recommendations on things to do and where to eat. There’s free pancake breakfasts and free soup each dat as well as Milkshake Mondays, Tapas Tuesdays, and Sangria Fridays. You won’t have to sepdn a lot of money on food thanks to this hostel. It’s a great vibe here.
Beds from €13 EUR ($15 USD). Twin privates from €52 EUR ($60 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at Lisboa Central Hostel!
3. Yes! Lisbon Hostel
This is a bit of a party hostel but, despite its party atmosphere, the hostel’s facilities are super modern, kept clean, and the spacious rooms are pretty quiet too. They come with privacy curtains, ensuite bathrooms, and the bigger rooms even have a tabel! The €10 EUR ($11 USD) communal dinners are tasty, and they even offer vegetarian options (but if you’d rather do your own cooking, there’s a large kitchen to do so).
Beds from €14 EUR ($16 USD). Private rooms from €68 EUR ($78 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at Yes! Lisbon Hostel!
4. Home Lisbon Hostel
This place in Lisbon’s historic city center is like your home away from home. You’ll even get to meet “Mamma” (the owner’s mom), as she prepares a meal each night. There is also a night tour every evening. The rooms are spacious with balconies and big windows and the bunks have privacy curtains. If you’re a digital nomad, you can take advantage of the co-working space too.
Beds from €15 EUR ($17 USD). Private rooms from €60 EUR ($70 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at Home Lisbon Hostel!
5. Nomad 64
Nomad 64 is more like a boutique hostel, and the building has recently been renovated with modern décor. The kitchen is amazing (seriously, there are marble countertops): it’s huge, modern, with lots of tables, and great facitilites. It’s one of the best kitchens I’ve ever seen. Breakfast is included here. The beds are comfy enough. Try to avoid a room with the triple bunks though! Nomad 64 is set in the Santo Antonio district, with a handful of good restaurants nearby. You’re just a 20-minute walk from Bairro Alto.
Beds from €20 EUR ($23 USD). Private rooms from €57 EUR ($65 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at Nomad 64!
6. Travellers House
There are two main things I love about this centrally located hostel in the Baixa neighborhood. First is the free breakfast. It is not a “continental” breakfast – there are eggs, bacon, toast, and more. You can even get some items made to order! The second thing I love about this place is the rooftop overlooking the Rua Augusta Arch. The mattresses are thick and comfortable, and you’ll get a light and outlet. The common area feels more like a living room, with beanbag chairs and large couches. Travellers House also hosts a wide range of events such as wining tastings and walking tours through the Alfama and Bairro Alto areas.
Beds from €20 EUR ($23 USD). Private singles from €30 EUR ($34 USD). There is a minimum two-night stay.
—-> Click here to book your stay at Travellers House!
7. We Love F. Tourists
The staff members at We Love F. Tourists are awesome, and it’s not uncommon for them to surprise you with free wine (sometimes they’ll even pack snacks or sandwiches for you as you’re heading to the airport). Sit in the lounge, sip some port, or take in the views over Sao Jorge Castle – it doesn’t get much better than that! This hostel is in Baixa, next to the busy squares of Praça da Figueira and Rossio. Pedro, the owner, has a restaurant next door that serves great food.
Beds from €14 EUR ($16 USD). Private rooms from €50 EUR ($57 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at We Love F. Tourists!
8. Lost Inn Lisbon
Lost Inn is another hostel that has free sangria (and coffee and tea!) every day. Breakfast is also free, and there’s a free walking tour afterwards. This hostel is housed inside an 18th-century palace in the middle of downtown, next to important monuments, museums, and the party area of Bairro Alto. Despite its age, the building’s interior is sleek and modern (and large – you’ll have no problem getting a bed).
Beds from €15 EUR ($17 USD). Private rooms from €70 EUR ($80 USD). There is a minimum two-night stay.
—-> Click here to book your stay at Lost Inn Lisbon!
9. Living Lounge Hostel
This boutique hostel on the border between the Chiado district and the historic Baixa is interesting and artsy. Each room has a different theme, and local artists have hand-painted the walls. It’s a quirky place in a great location! The beds are nice, but they can be squeaky. They have free pancakes for breakfast, and huge group dinners (for about €10 EUR/$11 USD). They also offer tours; the Fado tour is a popular one.
Beds from €16 EUR ($18 USD). Single privates from €30 EUR ($34 USD).
—-> Click here to book your stay at Living Lounge Hostel!
10. Happy Mike Hostel
There really is a Mike who runs this hostel, and he really is a happy guy! He knows all about the city and is really willing to help you make the most of your time here. Ask him anything. The hostel is sparkling clean, and the well-equipped kitchen has plenty of storage for your groceries. Happy Mike Hostel is located in Benfica – one of the less touristy areas of the city – surrounded by really great dining options and plenty of public transit options.
