endless iconic f1 moments - closest ever finish
peter gethin wins the 1971 italian grand prix. the brit started the race in eleventh, with the matra of chris amon on pole, ahead of jacky ickx (ferrari) and jo siffert (brm). the monza track at that time did not feature chicanes, so the grand prix became an incredibly fast slipstreaming battle. the lead swapped 25 times during the race, between eight different drivers.
by the end of the race five cars were still close together fighting for the win. on the last lap, gethin was third behind francois cevert and ronnie peterson as they entered the parabolica corner. he was able to slip past as they battled each other.
gethin took the chequered flag just 0.01 seconds ahead of peterson. he said “we got to the line and he was very close to me, we were alongside each other...so to try and convince (the officials) that i was the winner, i put my hand up on the line, so they’d think i'd won!”
gethin had indeed won the race. the first five cars were covered by just six tenths of a second. the race was also the fastest ever in f1 history, with an average speed of 150.754 mph, until the 2003 italian grand prix. gethin’s winning margin remains the closest finish in f1 history to this day. it was his first and only victory.

People going through their Hayden Christensen phase right now, meanwhile primary school me had to do a school project on a country and chose Canada because he’s Canadian, and that was roughly 17 years ago.
Also did a project of Bolivia and Namibia because Gethin Jones travelled there as a Blue Peter presenter
Nice to know I had my priorities straight as an 11 year old.

Meet Miss Earth - Alias Graham Hill, the Grand Prix race driver
The straits times, 4th December 1966
Tumblr media
There was a roar of applause from the 400 guests at London's exclusive park lane hotel as the first contestants in the latest beauty contest - Miss Earth 1966 - entered the hallroom.
Swaying rhythmically to the background music, and dressed in a swim suit that left little to the imagination, the face of Grand Prix racing driver Peter Arundel went almost unrecognised under a mass of flowing hair.
It was all part of a fund-raising takeoff of the rash of beauty contests that have become so much a part of the London scene.
With all profits going to charity, contestants include ex-world champion Graham Hill, racing drivers Nick Brittan, Harry Stiller, Peter Gethin, ex-driver Les Leston and West Essex Car Club offical, John Trimble.
All were in fetching swimsuits and long wigs to carry the charade further, and the contestants started with them parading around the ballroom to jeers, cheers, shouts and hoots of the audience.
Next they paraded in line for the judges - rally driver Rosemary Smith, Nick Brittan's wife, Jenny, and West Essex Club Secretary's wife, Barbara Greenway.
The judge's work was made more difficult as the contestants began to douse one another with soda siphones. But eventually, Graham Hill was declared the winner and crowned Miss Earth by Rosemary Smith. He then posed triumphantly on the table booked for the honourable Gerald Lascelles, Royal racing fan.

hi lou!! ofc ofc!! :)
2 - who are some your fav creators/mutuals?
i love all of my mutuals and every creator in the fandom bc everyone is just amazing!! but to list just a few @footprintsinthesxnd, yourself!! (@luckynumber4), @ep6bastogne @lamialamia @thewayisset @lewis-winters @jenkil @mads-weasley @hellofanidea @liptonwashere @malarkgirlypop @panzershrike-pretz @sweetxvanixlla @whollyjoly @samwinchesterslostshoe @next-autopsy @iceman-kazansky @heystovepipeboys @theflyingfin @cody-helix02 and many many more!
special shout out to the cult!! zim zam, my friends, zim zam!!! also i'm so sorry if i forgot to tag anyone!!
9 - a ship that you can't get enough of?
bradnate, andyeddie, snurgie, ronnix, lipluz, webgott, and no matter how much winnix i consume it never gets old so them too!
14 - your fav underrated character?
ooh this is always hard bc everyone classifies underrated as a different thing.. are burgie and harry underrated? if so, them! chuck grant, tab (this man is so loved he's can't be underrated but i couldn't not mention mr lover lover himself), alton more??? one of the most interesting easy co men for sure!! wish we had more of him (lol)
19 - what's your fav universally-accepted/fanon headcanon about a character?
ooh either all the nix childhood fanon or the andyeddie ghosts/afterlife/grief fanon.. yeah.. that hits the spot
24 - what wip from another creator are you most excited about?
all of @ep6bastogne's wips (yes i read all your tags about them in utter anticipation), @luckynumber4's burgie wip! anything @footprintsinthesxnd writes! same with @lewis-winters ALL of your wips sound so so sooooo up my street/my thing!! there are so many more but despite my plans to spend the day at home i actually have to leave the comfort of my bed and brave the cold outside, and i'm late already so i'm gonna have to stop listing, but it's very likely that i'm excited for almost every single wip any of you guys have!
28 - what's something that lives in your brain rent free and you want everyone to know about the show/the fandom/your works?
outside of hbowar??? oooh i have LOADS of things!! the thick of it!! it has such clever funny writing, the best dialogue and political satire ever, because it's just so true to life and accurate for uk politics. peter capaldi is fucking amazing in it! and you'll see a lot of uk actors that are famous for other things here. but yeah, it's just hilarious and witty and clever. love it. go watch it. ummm other than that, the korean band onewe!! please go listen to them, they are ridiculously talented and have the kindest most lovely and accepting fandom in the world. in fact, the hbo war fandom and onewe fandom are the only two fandoms i've ever felt happy and comfortable in. onewe write beautiful songs with the most gorgeous lyrics (they have a space series which is one of my all-time favourites). ALSO pride (2014) as a movie recommendation! this film is my comfort film but it tears me apart as well. some people watch it for the queerness and come away learning about welsh history too.. for others, it's the opposite. but as a welsh gay man for me both those elements are so important to who i am and my own identity, that this film is just feels so incredibly special to me. especially the character gethin who i really feel i can relate to a lot due to our circumstances. tim roth is someone who i always wanna shout about and who lives rent free in my head too. love that man so much. also the band the libertines!! because them and the strokes were my entire teenage years and i pretty much grew up with their music as my 'soundtrack'. ok i think that's enough, even though i definitely have way more to shout about. sorry i rambled!
for this ask game!

'Where to start when profiling such a talented and charismatic actor as Andrew Scott? How about the fact that, aside from some youth theater workshop experience, this Dublin-born actor has had no official drama training? At 17, he was cast in a substantial role in an Irish film called Korea and, from there, joined the prestigious Abbey Theatre company in Dublin. His move to England in the late 80s corresponded with small parts in British, Irish, and American films and TV series and paved the way for his career to take off.
Among other projects, Andrew Scott appeared as an extra in Saving Private Ryan's Omaha Beach sequence, as well as several guest starring roles in British TV series like Garrow's Law and Foyle's War. All in all, he spent the first decade or so of his career building a solid body of work that would soon catapult him into pop culture stardom.
Let's take a look at some of Mr. Scott's iconic characters and lesser-known projects.
Sherlock (2010 – 2017)
Who can forget when Sherlock first revealed the character of Jim Moriarty to audiences in "The Great Game" episode? Scott played Mr. Holmes's famous nemesis as a deranged mastermind with a playful sing-song creepiness and a palpable presence of malice. He won the Best Supporting Actor TV BAFTA for that role in 2012.
The Bachelor Weekend aka The Stag (2013)
Some may have missed the delightful indie comedy, The Stag, about a group of friends who set out on a hiking excursion in the Irish countryside. Mr. Scott leads the ensemble as Davin, the groom's best man, in charge of their mild-mannered weekend. Their plans are wholly upended when The Machine (Peter McDonald), the bride's laddish brother, crashes the party. Lest you expect an Irish Hangover clone, emotional confrontations ensue between Davin and our groom, Fionnan (Hugh O'Conor), when unresolved issues from their past rise to the surface.
Pride (2014)
The feel-good, historical dramedy Pride depicts a group of London-based lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the Welsh miners' strike in 1984. Scott plays Gethin, owner of a gay bookshop, who lends support to the group but hesitates to get actively involved due to his experiences as a gay youth coming out in Wales. He earned the best supporting actor trophy for his performance from the British Independent Film Awards.
Spectre (2015)
Once an actor is lauded for playing a baddie well, you have to expect the 007 franchise will come calling. In the 24th Bond film Spectre, Scott played Max Denbigh, aka C, Director-General of the Joint Security Service, an organization created by merging MI5 and MI6. While at first his disagreements with M (Ralph Fiennes) seem to be internal power struggles, it turns out C is a danger to democracy worldwide.
This Beautiful Fantastic (2016)
This Beautiful Fantastic is a quirky fairytale for adults and tells the story of Bella (Jessica Brown Findlay), a young woman who aspires to be a children's author but lacks the skills to navigate her out-of-control garden, let alone her nebulous career. Befriended by a kindly chef/housekeeper named Vernon (Scott), Bella begins to conquer her issues and blossom into the person she wishes to become. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson as Bella's gardening mentor.
Denial (2016)
A biographical legal drama, Denial depicts the libel case brought against American professor Deborah Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) by Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall). Mr. Scott plays Anthony Julius, the lead solicitor of Deborah's legal team, who guides her through the UK justice system and their arduous path to obtaining justice.
1917 (2019)
In the innovative war drama 1917 (which starred a who's who of British talent), two English soldiers run a harrowing gauntlet through enemy territory to deliver a message that could save the lives of over 1500 troops. Along the way, the young men meet up with a handful of officers who help them on their journey, all played by respected British actors, including Messrs. Cumberbatch, Firth, Strong, and you guessed it – Scott. His portrayal of Lieutenant Leslie stands out a mile for its humor and hopelessness.
Present Laughing (2019)
Mr. Scott garnered theatrical acclaim for his performance as Garry Essendine in Present Laughing, a semi-autobiographical piece by Noel Coward performed at the Old Vic. Farcical in tone, the play depicts the harried life of a successful and self-obsessed light comedy actor facing an impending mid-life crisis. Andrew won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.
Fleabag (2019)
Andrew Scott's name may have been synonymous with Moriarty until the world witnessed his portrayal of a character known only as "Hot Priest" in Fleabag. In the second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's award-winning dark comedy, Scott was introduced as the cleric who would be marrying Fleabag's dad and his fiancé. The couple has an immediate connection at the dinner table, and a trinity of friendship, spirituality and physical attraction ignite throughout the six-episode season. Scott's contribution was perfection!
This is only a brief sampling of Andrew Scott's work and impressive range...'

Ten thousand thunders, par Brian Trent (Flame Tree Press, octobre 2018)
Tumblr media

Formula 1'in her zaman yaptığı gibi geleceğe bakarken 100. yılı kutluyoruz. "Hız Tapınağı" gibi mekanlar, sporumuzu büyülü kılan şeydir.
