AITA for coming out at my sister's wedding?
I (32M) recently realized I'm bisexual and I have my first bf (45M), he's a rescue helicopter pilot (this will be relevant later). I'm out to my sister (41F) and my coworkers, including her husband, who I have worked with for years, but not to my parents or most of the other guests. Everyone has joked that I'm a little too close to my best friend (32M), and we might as well get married, but he's straight and has a gf. They're not relevant to this story, but to give context to how much my sexuality probably shouldn't be a surprise, even if it took me by surprise.
I told my sister and her husband I was bringing a plus one, and they both knew my bf, they were supportive of it because he makes me really happy.
Everything kind of started at the bachelor party. It was just me, my brother-in-law, and my best friend, and we did the usual stuff. We stayed a night in a hotel, went out to get drunk, sang some karaoke at our usual spot. It should have been a super chill night. Until my best friend and I lost the groom??? But it way more stressful than The Hangover makes it look.
He'd been taken by these guys who tried to kill him (no, I don't know why) and we didn't realize he was missing until less than an hour before the wedding. My mom kind of threw a fit about us being late, and then blamed me for losing the groom, which is kind of a normal reaction from her. My dad didn't yell as much but again, this is a normal reaction, I'm kind of the disappointment child. Basically, we had to find my brother-in-law because he still needed to marry my sister.
Before anyone worries: they did get married. He's fine. The hospital says they're discharging him tomorrow to go home. They're gonna reschedule their honeymoon so he's well enough to enjoy it.
Long story short, it turned into a rescue mission, and driving would have taken too long, and my best friend suggested we ask my bf to borrow his helicopter again (long story, but we had to borrow him for something a few months ago, it's how we met!) so I asked him for the favor. My mom asked who he was, since my best friend just used his name, and I told her he's my boyfriend, and she freaked out about it.
When we go to the hospital with my brother-in-law, my parents both yelled at and scolded me for taking attention away from the biggest day of my sister's life by pulling some "stunt" with my bf (to SAVE my brother-in-law from being violently murdered), and I think my dad somehow grounded me?
AITA?

The Buckley Siblings & Buckley Parents: Season 7
Maddie's getting married and Buck’s going to be in the wedding but... don't forget Margaret and Phillip will return to L.A. to attend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is this important?
It's important because EVERY TIME the Buckley parents go to L.A., they're only there because Maddie invited them and EVERY TIME things don't go well for Buck.
Before I get started, I need to preface this for all the people who are going to say, "I thought Maddie's and Chimney's wEdDinG was sUpPoSEd to be about them"; it will be but please remember Buck is Maddie's brother and EVERY TIME the Buckley parents were in Los Angeles, Chimney was there with Maddie and Buck and he witnesssed those $hitshows in person. Also, this post is about the Buckley siblings and their parents and how things always unfold when they show up.
Let's stroll down 9-1-1 memory lane for a minute shall we...
Season 4 - they traveled to L.A. because Maddie was pregnant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 4x4, Maddie was pregnant with Jee-Yun and after Buck returned from Austin, TX, she told him that she invited their parents because she wanted her daughter to have a normal family with grandparents who would be involved in her life. But Buck told her she should have gotten knocked up by a guy who had one of those. She responded she was willing to try and after some convincing, he agreed to try too.
Tumblr media
Here are the Buckley's arriving at Chimney's and Maddie's apartment and please look at Margaret's face. It's evident she didn't want to be there. They had dinner but it was awkward, especially since Maddie told their parents about Buck being in therapy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their second dinner turned into a $hitshow of epic proportions after they gave Maddie a baby box but they didn't have one for Buck.
Tumblr media
Before I move on, please take a look at how Margaret scowled at Buck. Her face was filled with a look of digust. I wonder why that is🤔?
Tumblr media
Their argument ended with Buck begging them to love him anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of 4x4, Maddie finally told Buck about Daniel and their conversation continued into 4x5.
Tumblr media
In 4x5, after Maddie revealed the truth about Daniel's Juvenile Leukemia, Buck was devastated and he stopped talking to her.
Tumblr media
Also, he told the 118 he was used for his "defective parts".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, Buck apologized to them for not being able to save his brother but the audience didn't see them ask him to forgive them and IMO, that was on purpose.
Tumblr media
When he arrived at Maddie's and Chimney's he looked like he was all alone. But they talked and made up.
Season 6 - they traveled to L.A. to see Maddie's new house.
Tumblr media
In 6x10, Maddie told Josh her parents wanted to see their new house even though it wasn't finished being renovated but reminder, Margaret and Phillip loaned them the money for their down payment and that's why they wanted to see it. (Actually, they wanted to see Jee-Yun but they used the house as an excuse.)
Tumblr media
Before Buck, Maragret and Phillip arrived, Maddie said to Chimney, "You're right. We have nothing to worry about. It's not like anybody's going to drop any deep dark family secrets this time". 👀
There has to be a secret, otherwise she wouldn't have said that.
Tumblr media
After Buck picked them up from the airport, they only talked about the weather and after they arrived, Maddie went to get Jee-Yun and brought her into the living room. In the photo above, Buck's in the background and even though Maddie's in the foreground, she's partially in the dark about whatever secret Margaret and Phillip are keeping from both of them.
Tumblr media
When Margaret saw the sonogram on Buck’s phone, the look on her face was one of disbelief NOT SHOCK.
Tumblr media
It was almost like they COULDN'T BELIEVE BUCK GOT SOMEONE PREGNANT. 👀
Tumblr media
While they were there, Buck got struck by lightning.
Tumblr media
And he died for three minutes and seventeen seconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 7 - They'll be in L.A. for the third time but it still won't be for Buck because they're going to Maddie's wedding.
It's likely they will be at the hospital to visit Chimney but what kind of chaos will ensue this time since EVERY TIME THEY SHOW UP, SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO BUCK?
Reminder, they only go to L.A. when it's for Maddie, i.e., her pregnancy, her new house and in season 7 it will be for her wedding. For whatever reason, in 4x4 they only had a baby box for Maddie 👀. And remember before they leave, something bad ALWAYS happens to Buck.
I have an idea of what might happen and why it will. My theory has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH BUCK’S BIRTH AND THE SPERM DONATION HE DID FOR CONNOR AND KAMERON. (But I'm still debating if I will post it. If I do, I'll post it before the season begins.)

Buck(at the Madney wedding):...Tommy, these are my parents...and I'm sorry. Tommy: Evan, why do you look like a character on "Miami Vice" and smell like puke? Buck:...Oh yeah, I'm sorry for that, too...but mostly for my parents. Margaret: Evan, we're standing right here. Tommy: Wait, Bobby isn't your dad - ? Phillip: STANDING. RIGHT. HERE![to Buck] - And why do people keep asking you that?!

People at the Madney Wedding Talking to the Camera
Cameraperson: So how does it feel to be married? Maddie: Not very different. I mean, we are already living together and have a daughter. We just did this for the tax and insurance benefits Cameraperson: Wait, what? Maddie: I am just kidding! *chuckles* Chimney: We definitely did it for the benefits. And I'm NOT kidding, or am I? *smirks at the camera* Mr. Lee: Congratulations, Maddie and Chimney. You two deserve the world! Mrs Lee: *tears up* I hope you have a wonderful life ahead with each other. And Chimney, Kevin would have been so proud of you. Just like I am. Hen: *drunk* MY BEST FRIEND GOT MARRIED! *waggles her eyebrows* HE'S GONNA GET SOME TONIGHT Karen: Baby, he was "getting some" anyway. They have a daughter Hen: Oh. Well, he's still gonna get some tonight. So happy for him! *tears up* So happy! Albert: Don't know about them, but I'm DEFINITELY getting some tonight. Catch my drift? Cameraperson: No, not really Phillip and Margaret Buckley: *camera moves on from them* Phillip: Wait, wait, wait, aren't you going to interview us? Cameraperson: I'm told you don't matter Buck: *smirks* You actually told them that? You're the real superstar Cameraperson: Thank you. So how did it feel walking your sister down the aisle? Buck: Amazing! I am so happy she let me do that *wipes a tear away* Cameraperson: Wait... I didn't know you were married. Where's your spouse? Buck: *tries to hide his ring finger* Ravi: I'm glad they invited me. They make such a great couple! And I'm glad nothing went wrong! Phew! Josh: I- Eddie: *drunk* They are so lucky to have each other! Josh: Really, Eddie? Really? You're gonna steal my thunder? Unbelievable! Cameraperson: No, go ahead. What were you gonna say? Josh: I was just going to say I am- Eddie: I am so happy for them. They don't have to hide their marriage *cries* Josh: Dammit, Eddie! Not again! Wait... What did you just say? Buck: *drags Eddie away* He's just really drunk. You probably want to edit that out. Cameraperson: Why do you two have matching rings? Buck and Eddie: *talk animatedly off-camera and try to hide when they see the camera* Athena: They should definitely stay on land for their honeymoon Bobby: Oh yeah, I would listen to Athena if I was them. Also, I didn't mastermind this relationship, but I'm glad they got together Cameraperson: What do you mean you didn't mastermind this relationship? Bobby: Shhh... Cameraperson: Do you have something to say to your mommy and daddy? Jee-Yun: Uncle Buck and Eddie got married Maddie: No, sweetie, I think you mean mommy and daddy got married Cameraperson: No, I think Buck and Eddie got married too Maddie: Wait, what? BUCK! YOU ARE NOT UPSTAGING ME AT MY OWN WEDDING!

I’m both scared and excited to see Buck and Maddie’s parents reactions to Buck having male romantic partner. Because while more than anything I want Buck to be happy and supported I’m a sucker for angst and hurt/comfort and I am 60-80% sure it’s gonna go badly given their track record but at the same time I kinda think they’ll be supportive. Like don’t get me wrong I hate them for how they treated Buck growing up but they don’t strike me as the types to have an issue with same-sex relationships to begin with but idk. If they don’t he’ll still have his adopted parents to support him.

normalise hating your shitty parents. you don't have to forgive them, even for yourself. you can just... let them go. trust me, it's so much nicer that way.

Ramon and Helena Diaz make mistakes and but they love their kids and want what they think is best for them and wanted to help them and they own up to their mistake when raising their kids. You can see how they love their kids. They wanted Eddie to stay in Texas because they love him and their grandson. They wanted to help him because they did not want him to struggle and Eddie and Shannon were still very much a kids and they worried. They are humans, stop dehumanizing them. We can go into the trauma immigrate parents have and how the generational trauma effect their children and grandchildren. They are trying to be better.
They are humans, stop comparing them to the Buckley parents. While Phillip and Margaret had Buck to have a savoir baby. They put Maddie in the position where she more a of a parent to him than they were. They barely never go to the hospital when Buck get hurt. They abandoned Maddie when she got stuck in an abusive marriage.

Also full offence to Phillip Buckley but I hope his entire head explodes when his son dares to bring a male date to his daughter’s wedding.

Incorrect Buck quote:
Buck: hmmm afab? What does…?
Man: assigned female at birth. That’s me.
Buck: oh! Nice. I guess I also didn’t have a choice on that either.
Man: you’re trans?
Buck: No, I’m cis. I was parts for my brother with cancer… my parents had me invitro and chose a male embryo to help ensure a more likely donor match.
Man: Wow. That’s rough. At least you have a nice name, Evan. And no dead name.
Buck: it’s a lab name. It stands for:
Embryo
Vitro Culture

I have a idea about 7x06
I saw a post that said that the writers (I think) said want to make Buck’s queer journey a happy one (which yay!) so I don’t think that the Buckley parents will be actually homophobic (which is good in my opinion) but I do wonder if we’ll get a comment from one or both of them about Buck seeking attention by bringing a date to the wedding when the relationship is so new
And maybe there’s a moment where he isn’t sure if they’re being homophobic or not but no, they’re actually just falling back on old patterns of viewing Buck’s actions as attention seeking
Idk, maybe I’m just prejudging them because I don’t like them
What do y’all think?
