#Please do not support Taylor’s new movie made by this monster

God I'm so disappointed about Taylor Swift, Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-joy for working with David O. Russell in the new movie Amsterdam
I feel awful I'm masive swiftie but i can't stan for Taylor in this one, i didn't put much attention in the details of the movie she was going to do when it was announced cause i was really excited to watch her on cinema but now that i've seen the trailer and David's name on it, i just couldn't help but felt complete upset with her like come on you wrote The man and you've been one hell of a witness of misogyny and abuse in this industry, you've had fight and make activism for things to get better for all the abuse victims and then you throw it all to the window. I - i just can't even express my disappointment.
And what about Margot, she produced Promising young woman a movie condemning the complicity of which we are part when we relate to abusers, to do exactly the same thing. Nice :/
I'm just really upset with all the people who is involved with this man cause some of them know and are aware of this asshole weird behavior like Christian Bale who fought him for mistreating Amy Adams and yet here we are.
For the people who doesn't know O. Russell sexually abused his trans niece when she was 19, which was confirmed by Russell himself to have happened and also for years committed labor abuse with many actors.
For all the swifties and this movie "Amsterdam" actors fans please don't go to watch it, let's stop the support for this abusers in Hollywood. It seems like the only way Hollywood do the right thing is when they don't get the pay check they expected. So if you so badly wants to see you're favorite actor/actress watch it online or something but don't give one penny to this hell of a monster and also let's reflect about all this fake wokeness celebs hand us and be a little bit more self aware and use common sense without waiting for them to "make us see it", they're just trying to be relatable.
Btw I'm not saying the fault is the actress or actors for the abuse because its all the David's but it's disappointing to see he got the support of such masive celebs to go on with another project when he should be in jail and also we see the hypocrisy in the industry like you make activism all until money gets in between and then well they said maybe it wasn't that bad
I love Taylor with all my life, but when our favorite artists screw it, we have to recognize it and not act as if nothing had happened just because they are our idols and blind ourselves by the admiration we have for them. Recognizing they made something wrong doesn't make you less of a fan, it just make you a critical thinking person

like I said, you’ve been so sweet to anybody sending you messages about inclusivity.. it really made me comfortable enough to send you an ask about it :)
Also, just wanna add that I completely understand writers writing from like, their perspective. I know inclusivity has been really important to many writers, which is so awesome! but of course it would be really hard to write form a POV you’re not really familiar with. So that’s totally understandable!
Being tall and curvy and also spending years being really insecure about it, you just notice these small things I mentioned in the original ask! And I’m never going to be mad about that or anything, I’m just so glad to even be able to read what you amazing writers are creating! But sometimes it does get to you a bit, in like an “aww…” way? Because so often, it’s just everywhere. Books and fanfics and movies..
I feel like that one Taylor Swift lyrics like “Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby, and I'm a monster on the hill” 😂
I’m in my 20s now and still learning to be okay with it. That I’m always just going to be a “big” person because I am tall and curvy and I’m trying to learn to just be proud of it.
So yeah, I really appreciate you always working on being inclusive and accommodating to us. You’re really such a kind person. Thank you for making us little anons so comfortable :)
And thanks for the little discussion about this topic! It was really nice to be open about this kinda stuff with someone, even if I’m an anon.
Now, I cannot wait to read more blue jeans & Texas dreams Joel and more Gwen and Joel! And your new series too! And all the Javi requests! I’m literally so excited about absolutely anything you post haha! And again, please take your time and no rush at all!
So much love to you!! ♥️♥️
Hi love!! Sorry for the late response, I was finishing up chapter 5 of blue jeans 😵‍💫
I’m incredibly happy to hear that you felt comfortable enough to send the request to me! I truly want to make this as safe of a space as I possibly can make it for everyone <3
I have honestly briefly thought about writing something where the reader is plus-sized and I just haven’t gotten around to doing it. Plus, it is definitely intimidating when it is an experience I have never lived through but my hopes are that I am able to do it justice.
I can tell how important this is to you, and I think it’s wonderful that this topic of conversation can be discussed in an open manner. Honestly, I truly just enjoy being able to have these kinds of conversations on here, because I really want people to feel loved, supported, and heard.
There is definitely a lot of petite/small/thin characters in fan fiction/movies/society in general. I wish it wasn’t the general norm because not two people look the same. Everyone has a different body type and shape and so why should one be considered the norm/beautiful and the other not? It has always bothered me.
Javi P will be worshipping every inch of your beautiful skin, I promise 🩷
Your kind words are absolutely melting my heart right now. 🥹 I’m so glad we were able to discuss this and I’m sending all the love your way!
Thank you for enjoying my content and sharing these important things with me. All the love to you my dear!

a hugely inexpert, absolutely correct examination of The Planets and their role in taylor swift turning out to be such a freak
Tumblr media
Astrology is real. Astrology is made-up nonsense. Made-up nonsense is real. One person’s chosen organizing principle for living is no more or less stupid than anyone elses. All of this is true or maybe it isn’t. Don’t roll your eyes too hard, but Joan Didion wasn’t lying—we do tell ourselves stories in order to live. It’s about all we do. I don’t understand the stars and planets because I don’t believe it’s my business what happens up there, plus I’m a little dumb, but I, like any blubbering narcissist, enjoy being told something about myself, and what is a horoscope but an opaque little love note designed to be interpreted by the reader in whatever way suits them best. There are astrologers who write beautiful, empathetic horoscopes that are a balm whether you believe them or not, and in this way astrology has a cultural value which makes any dubious scientific purity irrelevant. I don’t understand the stars and planets, but I have friends that do, and I like hearing whatever they sort out. Certainly, I’m not immune to believing in spurious little rituals; I was raised Catholic. Thinking that your star sign is responsible for certain aspects of your personality is no more impractical than keeping a Saint Christopher medal in your car to protect you from danger while traveling. These days I do both. Astrology is possibly real or possibly is not and maybe it matters what “real” means or else it might not, yeah, but the philosophical questions recede in the face of one fact upon which we can all agree: Taylor Swift has a profoundly upsetting birth chart.
Right off the bat, just from an aesthetic standpoint, this image (above) is not inviting. I don’t like to see it. When I wrote about Taylor Swift on this site in 2013 I didn’t know my moon or rising signs. This knowledge was not yet mandatory for trying to date girls and/or understanding jokes online. I was, at that time, far from even the semi-astrologically-literate state I am in now, yet even then if you’d have shown me this image, I know I’d shudder. It doesn’t take a scholar of any kind to see this and feel a chill down your spine, the itch of cold, spectral fingers closing around your wrist. Look at it again. The painful bisection by those angry blue lines. If you found this painted on a cave wall you’d turn and run back towards the fresh air of the opening, blinking back tears, certain some undead beast was following in your wake. This is a birth chart that says I am capable of writing songs like “All Too Well” but sometimes what I like better is to name a cat after the worst David Fincher movie and do a anti-homophobia music video that actually is so bad it felt somehow like it itself was homophobia. This is a birth chart that says I am going to release my new album, Red (2012), with a promo wherein Papa John’s will bring you a copy of it along with your pizza. This is a birth chart that says yeah, I used to do a fake twang as a teenager, and then I dropped the fake twang, but I can bring it back with no notice sometimes so all the girls (mentally ill adult women who have a Pavlovian response to anything that kinda sounds like “Hey Stephen”) go wild.
Taylor Swift is a Sagittarius. That’s the one with the arrow. It’s one of the good signs, theoretically, because it’s one that I have a lot of in my own chart, and because it’s in November and December, which are months where you can wear all your coats. Some other Sagittarians include Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, Janelle Monae, 8th US President Martin Van Buren, Jane Fonda, my friend C., who, in fact, happens to share all three major placements, sun, moon, and rising, with Ms. Swift, but I still don’t think she’s murdered anyone, and, of course, Jake “Twin fire signs / Four Blue Eyes” Gyllenhaal. So we have basically a lot of hot people and one guy who died of asthma, but who did manage to get the highest ranking job in the country first, though the country was a lot smaller then, and didn’t even have McDonalds yet to serve to teams that win college football tournaments. All in all, seems okay. Her moon is in Cancer. I think this connotes something about the watery depths of her emotional self, and it’s the only astrological placement which gets a shout out in the Joni Mitchell song “Little Green”. Her rising sign is Scorpio which is, like... Well, Scorpio to me is Halloween and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. Medically speaking, I think that influence is how the stylings for the reputation era turned out so very Hot Topic. My moon is in Scorpio so this is a self-own as much as anything else.
Tumblr media
Now look at this. What does it mean? Impossible to say, but that will not stop me from concluding that whatever it does mean is definitely bad. It will not stop me from extrapolating that probably a “multiple planet opposition” is the kind of thing that makes a person go to Stonewall during Pride for a surprise appearance but perform “Shake It Off” instead of any of the actual really good and sexy songs. But then, I bet it probably also factored into her developing into the kind of creative mind who would write something as weird and funny and vital as “And I’ve been meaning to tell you / I think your house is haunted / your dad is always mad and that must be why,” so possibly bad is good and good is bad and the various astrological signs just signify the different ways we relate to death. I don’t know. I’m scared.
Tumblr media
In the documentary Folkore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, released on Disney+ last month to accompany the record, because this daughter of three generations of bank presidents is nothing if not a money-maker, Taylor wears a terrifying outfit that I started to like rather than recoil from by about halfway through, and while wearing it espouses a belief that we are all monsters, which I happen to figure is correct. In Madame Clairevoyant’s Guide to the Stars, essential book on astrology and, importantly, the vagaries of the human heart, the incomparable Claire Comstock-Gay writes, “For Sagittarius, the desire is shifting and undefined. This is a drive, above all else, to see, to learn, to experience, to continually seek knowledge. It’s a drive to live a life that never asks or requires that you cede your freedom and never requires you to stop searching.” Certainly, this is the kind of internal compass which would lead to making the unusual, dramatic, and frankly very cool decision to entirely re-record your first six albums when ownership of the original masters has fallen into the hands of a little creep named “””Scooter””” who refuses to relinquish this morally, if not actually legally, false claim. For years I have speculated that actual murder of a human would not be outside of Taylor Swift’s capabilities. This is a statement made with neither praise or criticism attached. It’s a clinical observation from a sterling mind. What I feel with equal conviction, but admit more grudgingly, is that, if it happened, she’d have a perfectly logical reason. (Note: Taylor, if you’re reading this, I am not the type who’d rat anyway. It’s fine. Please don’t sue me.) I’m positive the astrological facts support my findings on this, and if I’m wrong, fortunately I will never find out. Anyway, the next full moon is in 22 days. I always want to look at it and then I forget. There’s a lot going on in space, and while I do feel that any cosmic forces which would put me and Taylor Swift on Earth at the same time are sort of inherently malevolent, I guess it’s been pretty fun, too.

Get to know me tag game
thanks for the tag lovely @queen-of-salt-and-fury!
Nicknames: lol, I mean, my fake internet name is basically a nickname, also “C”, all the broski, brosauce, etc variations me and my bestie use, speaking of, could also consider Elsa a nickname, or Cristina, because we are stone cold adults to refer to each other as our respective personality double in favourite duos (Elsa and Anna, and Meredith and Cristina) - yeah, we know we are fucking lame. My sister calls me “Titly”, which means butterfly, you may now also refer to me as Your Majesty, because I bought Elsa’s crown as a birthday gift for myself and gave myself a coronation, thereby legally making me Arendelle’s Queen. This is how it works now right? Declaring something online immediately makes it true.
Real name: Clara, lol, it’s not, it’s just what I’ve been using online for nearly a decade or so now, so what’s the point? But my real middle name is “Taika”, which is a name I share with Taika Waititi, which is cool.
Zodiac: Scorpio
Favourite Musicians / Band: Taylor Swift, Dima Bilan, Sergey Lazarev, Anime OST (deep into Code Geass and Bleash OST atm, god they were iconic), OST in general, KAZKA (thank you again so much @pulltheskydown for introducing me to her), Alma, Amir, Rihanna, Polina Gagarina, been in a Britney mood the last few weeks. Idk, I just have music I like, and music I don’t like, and some people I am very thirsty for. Also, also, literally any song from any Shahrukh Khan movie. I always was, still am, and always will be, one of those SRK loving bitches. The man is ICONIC.
Do I get asks?: Once in a blue moon.
Favourite sports team: I support the national teams ‘cause Go Canada Go or whatever. Also more invested in the Raptors than I ever thought I’d be, but hey, them winning the NBA last year gave me more serotonin than I ever thought boring sports could give me. It’s still so boring, but I do follow the scores when they appear on CP24 (local news channel), feels good when your city’s teams win. Guess that means by default I also support the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs, but whatever.
Other blogs: lol, you are talking to the Queen of Too Many blogs right here. My first ever main was @livesinabluebox (which has gone through a few url changes, namely melanin-monster and moonrxvenge, but it’s 2012 again so I switched back to my og url), I’m trying to clear out all my likes so I’m still posting there, but trying to move to my new main over @moonrxvenge. And I also have 600 million sideblogs for characters and roleplays and resources and whatever. I have so many that I need to keep a masterlist, and yes, it is HELLA out of date. (I still say hella)
Tumblr Crushes: meh, I never really befriended people on tumblr until much more recently, and like all those people are friends I made elsewhere, ie polyvore (I shy, tumblr scary and got far too many stupid peoples opinions).
Obvs, shoutouts to my loves @kzombi3 / @thots4daze @themadmonarchist @celestialfairies @alittlebitluna @eternalsailorstar @ayzrules @themonsterslut @turquoisesiren @pulltheskydown
some tumblr people who are v cool and maybe I say things or just do that whole “senpai notice me” lowkey stalking from my main, main: @queen-of-salt-and-fury @daenerys-targaryen  @salty-sailors-unite @wellstartled and loads of others I’m probably forgetting rn
Lucky numbers: as a kid I considered 7 and 13 lucky, also 735 or something like that for islam reasons I forgot, but I don’t have any now. I think it’s all bull.
What am I wearing: blue pajamas. my shirt says “happy monday - said nobody ever”, it is thursday.
Dream holiday: Russia and Japan are definitely my number ones, all the historical places like the Winter Palace and Himeji Castle, and the cities.
Dream car: Tesla, it was a blue Model S, but that was 5 years ago (4? 3? idk, a time ago) and I’m sure there are newer models now that I am too lazy look up
Favourite food: Macarons
Drink of choice: Tim Hortons Ice Coffee with a shot of caramel
Instruments: I technically played the flute for a year (maybe three) in middle school music class, but it was mandated and I don’t remember. I could play the beginning of To Love’s End from Inuyasha back then, but not now. I can play the main tune, like just the first few notes, of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s main theme on the piano, but I just memorized the keys. Idk the actual notes. F or G or E I guess? Idk.
Languages: English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, technically French, but I didn’t really retain anything from it, like I can read French, but got little to no idea what I’m saying. Straight up surprised when I do understand. I think it’s in there, but barely. Also supposed to be able to speak Arabic, but retained less of that than French.
Celebrity crushes: Chris Evans, Jenna Coleman, SRK (lol, since I was born probably), Kajol, Bruna Marquezine, Yuki Kimisawa, and loads of others. I’m a hoe for the fictional and the theoretical, what can I say?
Random facts: Buying notebooks and using them are two entirely different hobbies, and, okay, this isn’t like interesting in the least but I am OBSESSING over the drama that went down between Salman Khan and Zayn over his cover of Allah Duhai Hai - yeah, I know I’m 2 years late to this, but whatever, no fucking told me about it and I can’t find any definitive information and I’m going crazy! Please, someone explain what happened 'cause I am dying!!! I need to know!! (also, salman fans don’t interact, vo kuni hai yaar, tu phagal hai kya?)
I’ll tag: all of you lovelies  @kzombi3 / @thots4daze @themadmonarchist @celestialfairies @alittlebitluna @eternalsailorstar @ayzrules @themonsterslut @turquoisesiren @pulltheskydown @queen-of-salt-and-fury @daenerys-targaryen @salty-sailors-unite @wellstartled + whoever else wants to do it (and ofc tag me and befriend me, I am but a thirsty ass hoe for friendship)

Fox’s Gotham is set to return for its fifth and final season on January 3, 2019 at 8pm ET/PT. The new season will continue to focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman, while also introducing new villains including Bane (Shane West). Fan favorite villains The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), and The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) will also play integral roles in the show’s fifth season which will finish up with a 10 year leap forward in time for the series’ finale.
Robin Lord Taylor was among the cast members in attendance at the 2018 New York Comic Con supporting Gotham‘s final season. During our roundtable interview, Robin Lord Taylor discussed The Penguin’s evolution and what he hopes fans take away from the character by the end of the season.
How does it feel going into Gotham‘s final season?
Robin Lord Taylor: “I couldn’t be more proud of the stories that we’ve told. My fellow actors and also my crew have made me a better actor and a better person. I owe them so much. It’s crazy. (Getting emotional) I’ve been on the verge all day… People are like, ‘Who are you going to miss the most?’ It’s like I can’t answer it. Everyone’s changed me. It’s crazy. It’s emotional.”
In past interviews you’ve said fans will get to watch The Penguin evolve further into the comics’ version.
Robin Lord Taylor: (Laughing) “I wasn’t going to spoil it, but our showrunner did. Yeah, you will see our version of the traditional Penguin from the comic books in the last episode. All of the components will be there. It will be fully realized. I’m so excited because it almost makes…it legitimizes him in a certain way. It’s like now I really do feel like I am the third Penguin. Like, I followed Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito. Like, what the f*ck is my life? Unbelievable! It’s amazing.”
Was there anything you really wanted to make sure got in before the end of the show’s run?
Robin Lord Taylor: “There was, and it will make it in – the monocle. I wanted to make sure that when we tell that story, that it’s not just some affectation. It’ s not just some weird stylistic choice.
You know, in one of the stories it’s an actual injury that he receives. [John Stephens] walked me through the beginning of the season. He walked me through vaguely where we’re going. He was like, ‘Do you have anything that you really need?’ I was like, ‘Can we please when we do the monocle make it the injury?’ because it ties into this character from the beginning having been beaten and now he has the limp and he’s somewhat handicapped. It’s about how Gotham City itself is destroying this person, is cutting him down, is turning him into a monster. And that’s such an important component of it, I feel, the fact that he’s now blinded in one eye.
There’s something about him now where one side of his body is damaged and the other side is not. It’s like this duality that’s always been there with him, this sympathetic yet monstrous person, you know? And I just thought that was so important. It will come into play in these next couple of episodes.”
For you personally, are there any villains coming up that you’d like to see Penguin sharing scenes with?
Robin Lord Taylor: “I’ve been in lots of scenes with, I think, all of the villains. I’m actually going to flip it a little and say I want more scenes with the good guys. I’ve had passing scenes with Lucius Fox and I’ve had a passing scene with Alfred. I just really want to have more stuff with those guys because when you put two of these characters together, you learn new things about them and then about their relationship to these people. I just think that would be so cool to play more on the good guy side of things.”
What will the relationship be like between The Penguin and The Riddler in the new season? Will they have an alliance or will they collide?
Robin Lord Taylor: “Here’s the thing…yes and no. Because again these two characters are so brilliant, and they don’t want to answer to anybody else. It’s hard for them to share and to collaborate and cooperate, but yet at the same time they have to. To get anything done in Gotham City you have to have allies, you have to work with other people especially now that Gotham in season five is fractional. People control certain aspects and so you need to do deals with all of these other people.
With The Riddler in particular I sort of say to myself, ‘My best friend is also my enemy.’ That’s sort of how I feel about their connection. It’s like face-to-face we’re fine but turn your back around and then in goes the knife. They will always have that contention, but I like that. That’s a friction and that’s good stuff, and that’s exciting. You don’t know where they’re going to go. So, yeah, that’s what’s in store for them.”
What’s one of your favorite Penguin stories from any other interpretation?
Robin Lord Taylor: “I love Batman Returns, that movie and that story of The Penguin. It’s such a departure from the comic books but I think it is just such a poetic, beautiful translation of the character that Tim Burton did. And also, just Danny DeVito’s performance has been reviewed ever since the movie came out. That’s really been my favorite.
And, also, what I really appreciate now especially having worked on Gotham and looking back, specifically at Tim Burton’s work, I like the bravery that he had to play with canon, to play with these traditional characters and not be afraid to put his own interpretation or his own design in order to take it a different way. We’ve done that with the show and we’ve gotten a lot of blowback from certain fans about some of the storylines that we’ve put in. A lot of people have complained that it wasn’t in the comics; it wasn’t canon. I really now having experienced it on my own, I really appreciate the bravery that Tim Burton had to really tell a new story.
If these stories aren’t reinterpreted, if they aren’t changed, if we stick to one specific idea of who these characters are, there’s no way Batman would be 80 years old and we’d still be talking about him. These stories need to change and they need to adapt. Being able to take these characters and make them your own and adapt them to the time in which you’re doing it…this is The Penguin for right now. In some years there would be another one. Every generation gets the Batman that they deserve.”
What do you want fans to take away from this last season about Oswald/The Penguin?
Robin Lord Taylor: “I want them to recognize how Gotham City has created this monster and created all of these monsters. It’s about the city and how it corrupts. I want people to see this person who as a child, if things had gone right, if he hadn’t been poor from an immigrant family, if he hadn’t been bullied mercilessly, if he had been supported and treated with love, I believe he would be a good person. I really do believe he could have used his amazing intellect for good things.
But, that’s not the story we’re telling. So by the very end when the show is all said and done, I want people to look back specifically at The Penguin and see how this person started with a shred of humanity and then through circumstances in this city with these people he ends up a monster. He ends up one of the most ruthless, horrifying people you’ve ever seen. I want people to see how Gotham City has corrupted what could have been good.”

Move Over Oscars, It’s The Pawscars™!
Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner Host Annual American Humane Association Awards revealing top creature stars of the year; See it today online!LOS ANGELES, CA February 18, 2015 -- Proceed, Oscars!  Now, American Humane Association is showing the REAL champions of the year's top acting awards with all the PAWSCARS ?, honoring the very best animal stars in film and television.  Hosted by TV superstar Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner, the 2015 American Humane Association PAWSCARS are now available for viewing online at www.americanhumane.org.
And the 2015 PAWSCARS visit...Best Puppy Under Stress --"The Interview"
One of the most notorious movies from 2014 has been"The Interview," and its own most adorable star was certainly Wolfie, a King Charles spaniel who appeared in the film.  American Humane Association always made sure Wolfie was kept secure, especially in the middle of all the chaos and action.  He was not near any of the explosions, gunfire, or loud sound -- all that was added in post-production, or a stuffed double was used.  In the boat scenes, Wolfie was always kept strapped-in for safety, while in between takes, he was kept warm with a hot water bottle.
Best Magical Cow -- "Into The Woods"
While"The Interview" didn’t receive any Oscar nominations, this PAWSCAR winner got three Oscar nominations too.  "Into The Woods" is Disney’s variant of the Stephen Sondheim fairy tale mash-up musical.  The award for Best Magical Cow belongs to “Milky White” played by animal actor Tug.  In the film, Jack trades his household ’s white cow for magic beans.  From the scene where Jack milks her, American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives ? proved just off camera ensuring she stood still and Jack was taught the way to milk the cow before trying it .  In the scene where Tug is eating strange things like hair and old shoes, she was actually fed edible replacements and at the scene where she awakens it was not her at all, it was a fake squirt bunny.
Greatest Speeches Performance --"Dolphin Tale 2"
In this sequel to"Dolphin Tale," Winter’s companion Savannah, dies of old age and the aquarium has only 30 days to find Winter a new mate.  Once an injured baby dolphin can be found stranded on a sandbar, they name her Hope from the “hope” which she'll become Winter’s new companion.  American Humane Association assessed all swimming places for potential hazards and saw that the dolphins never worked over an hour without a break.  When audiences watched Savannah lying at the base of the tank, it was not a true dolphin, but an animatronic prop.
Best Chase Sequence --"Sex Tape"
In this movie, Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz attempt to track down their personal sex tape which has inadvertently been sent to their pals.  As Segal is looking one buddy ’s residence, he encounters a German shepherd -- performed by both Nicki and King -- and the chase is on; American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives were on set for those scenes.  At the treadmill gag, the machine was never running as soon as the dog was on it; stuffed animals and CGI were used for all of the dangerous parts and the full scene was assembled in post-production.
Best Supporting Equine -- "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is part of a hugely successful franchise that frequently gets awards for its visual effects.  It wins a PAWSCAR, not for its apes, but for a horse called Dale ridden from the apes' leader, Caesar.  It looks like he -- and another Apes -- are riding bareback but that is just another example of movie magic.  The actors playing the apes on horseback used saddles, so Dale and the other horses had been dotted with particular effects markers which allowed the saddles to be eliminated in post-production.  American Humane Association made sure those markers were non-toxic and they also had the horses fitted with rubber hooves for scenes if they were on sidewalk.  In scenes in which there was gunfire, flames, or explosions, the horses were filmed separately from this action.  Even when they jumped over"fire," the horses were only leaping over a 1 foot high bar with flickering lights.
Greatest Young Animal Performer(s ) ) --"The Fall"
"The Fall" is a stressed cop play notable for being James Gandolfini’s closing film.  At the heart of its story is a pit bull pup named Rocco.  Since puppies grow up so quickly, the production had to use three individual dogs, Puppers, and Ice -- to maintain age continuity.  Because different dogs were utilized to perform the exact same character, some make-up was required to make them all match.  American Humane Association made sure that the makeup utilized was nontoxic.  Certified Animal Safety Representatives ensured that none of the pups were overworked, asked to do anything outside of their capabilities, and that they had a secure and comfortable surroundings in place and off.
Finest Ensemble --"Wild"
This award may appear to be an odd choice considering that the film is about Reese Witherspoon’s personality hiking the Pacific Crest Trail .  But she’s not alone, and across the way she encounters a horse played by Muffet, a fox played by Dharma, a rattlesnake played with Fred, a puppy played by Tess, a bunny played with Sport, and even a llama played by Taiga.  American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representatives assessed every place where the animals worked and supervised the scenes to be sure none were placed in damage ’s way.  In the scene where frogs are released on to Witherspoon, the region was surrounded with an individual foot-high barrier so that none of them got away and 40 hens were kept safe.
This season, American Humane Association's"No Animals Were Harmed " program celebrates 75 years since the sole official film-industry sanctioned group ensuring that the humane protection, safety and welfare of animal actors on the sets of movies, tv shows, and commercial shoots.  Each year the program manages the protection of over 100,000 animal actors on more than 2,000 places from the U.S. and around the globe.  In honor of this special anniversary, American Humane Association represented on the history of animal actors and requested America who its favorite cat and dog celebrities of all time were.  With 2,527 votes, the results have been....
Best Dog Star of all Time -- Lassie
This lovable collie's been around for at least 75 years.  Her first movie was"Lassie Come Home" with Elizabeth Taylor in her first starring role.  Taylor was paid $100 per week, but Lassie got $250.  There have been many more films since then in addition to a very successful television set.  Lassie was the very first monster celebrity to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the first inductee to the Animal Actors Hall of Fame.  She's a long relationship with American Humane Association, winning 11 of its Animal Television Star Awards, the PATSYs.
Top Cat Star of Time -- Sassy
This Himalayan kitty starred in Disney’s"Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey" and the sequel,"Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco."  In both films, Sassy was played by a cat named Tiki and voiced by Oscar winner Sally Field.
Finally, a very special Lifetime Achievement Award was given to....
Lifetime Diva Achievement Winner -- Crystal
This cherished capuchin monkey was a creature star for 18 years starring in over 25 movies such as the"Night At The Museum" series,"The Hangover: Part two,""American Pie," and the"Dr. Doolittle" movies, in addition to tv shows, and advertisements.  1 amazing truth about Crystal is that she is a rescue animal.  Crystal is far from the only rescue creature working now: roughly 80 percent of the dogs and cats that you see on the large and small screen are rescues or adopted from predators.  This fighter is so beloved that the late Robin Williams called her"his favourite leading lady."
"Our 2015 Pawscars champions are truly worthy of the honor for all they've done to entertain us not only over the last year, but indeed, in Lassie's instance, for decades and decades," said Dr. Robin Ganzert, American Humane Association's president and CEO.  "Animal stars really are such an significant part the movies and TV shows we see every day and this year's PAWSCARS are our distinctive way of paying tribute to the rich history of animal actors.  Our deepest thanks to Pauley Perrette and Lou Wegner for co-hosting this year's series and to everybody who voted for their favourite cat and dog stars of all time."
To give audiences the inside scoop on even more of the Garbos and Gables of animal actors, a brand new publication was published together with the 75th anniversary of the"No Animals Were Harmed" app.  American Humane Association President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert composed and published the book"Animal Stars: Behind the Scenes with Your Favorite Animal Actors," with Allen and Linda Anderson, the husband-and-wife founders of the Angel Animals Network.  Featuring a foreword by"America's Veterinarian," Dr. Marty Becker,"Animal Stars" provides a peek at the fascinating world of animals and animal trainers in today's movie and television industry -- along with the celebrities with whom they operate.  Proceeds from the sale of this publication support American Humane Association's lifesaving work and programs protecting America's kids and animals.  Dr. Ganzert traveled the country on a book registering for"Animal Stars" last autumn.  To watch the full 2015 PAWSCARS, please visit www.americanhumane.org, see them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/americanhumane or @americanhumane on Twitter.  Media can acquire broadcast-quality footage in https://bit.ly/2015pawscars-video.  To learn more concerning the"No Animals Were Harmed " program, including reviews of the films it has tracked through time, please visit www.humanehollywood.org.

Favourite films from 2017
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Directed by Rian Johnson
Tumblr media
Star Wars fans suck, and I’m so happy to see Disney wrench the franchise from their greasy paws and deliver it to a general audience. Rian Johnson picks up where J. J. Abrams left off by fleshing out the character development of the new franchise leads. Poe learns hard lessons about sacrifice. Rey and Kylo’s complex relationship is given more layers. Even the oft-criticized Finn and Rose subplot is an important bit of character development for Finn to gain unconditional courage. The movie is highlighted by standout performances from Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley, a career best Mark Hamill and an iconic turn from Laura Dern. Rian Johnson delivers rousing action sequences (_that _throne room scene) and emotional highlights. Accompanied by polished sound design, visual (and practical) effects, and John Williams doing what he does best, The Last Jedi is one of the franchises best. It brings the franchise into a new era, reinstating the true spirit of Star Wars- that anyone can be a hero, as long as we look to the stars and hope
2. Lady Bird Directed by Greta Gerwig
Tumblr media
It’s hard to stand out in the field of coming of age movies, but Greta Gerwig manages to do it and tell a story that is simultaneously unique and relevant. The often-ignored daughter-mother relationship is given full attention, exploring some poignant moments in middle age and young adulthood equally well. This is an incredible script that makes every plot detail and situation count, giving the actors a lot to work with. Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf deliver in spades, playing off each other with incredibly nuanced performances. Gerwig performs marvellously, allowing her actors to find the moments of humour and melancholy in her script, and creating a visually pleasing movie to boot. That she manages to do this all in her directorial debut is a remarkable achievement.
3. Logan Directed by James Mangold
Tumblr media
Hugh Jackman is given a great vehicle for his final performance as Wolverine. Adapted from Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan, the movie hugely surpasses its source material. While it maintains the gritty sense of violence from the graphic novel, its emotional substance is much more… substantial. Logan is a superhero film that finds a distinctive voice both in terms of its visuals and its temperament. Its characters aren’t simply grappling with “doing the right thing” but with debility, lethargy, loneliness and remorse. Jackman and Patrick Stewart explore these themes expertly. They’re accompanied by Dafne Keen’s standout performance as Laura/X-23 forming an emotional crux to carry the story. It’s a story that stands out from the others in its genre, and one that I certainly consider one of the best.
4. Get Out Directed by Jordan Peele
Tumblr media
In Jordan Peele’s directorial debut, he manages to tell a story that is remarkably relevant and important, without ever losing his distinctive creative voice. Get Out is very much a horror movie, but Peele lends a fair bit of levity whenever he can. He drops scares that are so jarring they’re practically self aware. The movie is sold by Daniel Kaluuya’s incredible lead performance, as we’re left to ponder the sheer ridiculousness of his circumstances, slowly evolving into genuine terror. This movie has a very clear message, and despite its importance if there are those who may complain that it’s too heavy handed, they need only look to it’s masterfully crafted finale. Watching the movie in a crowded theatre gives you a shared experience, where we all jump at the same scares, laugh at the same jokes, but most importantly feel the injustice that presents itself at the end, and cheer for the twist. It’s this shared experience that is Peele’s master stroke. A perfectly enjoyable finale that leaves us pondering the very real message of the film.
5. Wonder Woman Directed by Patty Jenkins
Tumblr media
This is the most important superhero film since 1976’s Superman. Bringing to life the most iconic female superhero of all time took a long time to happen but it delivers in spades. Patty Jenkins has given the DCU it’s finest film yet, establishing a convincing mythos with interesting characters. Amidst DC’s penchant for dark brooding characters, Diana is a breath of fresh air: a hero that is compassionate and optimistic, even slightly naive. This lends to a truly compelling character arc that allows her to learn firsthand how complicated “the world of man” is. Gal Gadot commands the lead role expertly. She is the most convincing superhero performance since Christopher Reeve, and just like him it’s to bring to life an icon- a role model that she will forever be associated with.
6. Blade Runner 2049 Directed by Denis Villenueve
Tumblr media
It is truly incredible that a sequel made 25 years after its predecessor can maintain the same tone and feel of the original, while lending a new creative voice. The original Blade Runner is one of sci-fi’s most contemplative stories, and it’s incredible that 2049 doesn’t do anything to damage this aura. It asks important questions while expanding on the franchise’s greater theme of what it means to be human. Denis Villeneuve is quickly becoming one of the most distinctive visual filmmakers currently working in Hollywood, and with this movie and Arrival it’s clear to see why. Hans Zimmer along with Benjamin Wallfisch manages to deliver some of his best work in years with a soundtrack that pays homage to Vangelis’s iconic original score. And then there’s the legendary Roger Deakins-lighting each scene with a painterly stroke to add a bit of nuance to already strong performances.
7. Thor: Ragnarok Directed by Taika Waititi
Tumblr media
Perhaps more than any director in the MCU, Taika Waititi delivers his own distinctive creative voice to his entry in the franchise. While its easy to get carried away by the stunning 80’s visuals and synth score from Mark Mothersbaum, it’s Waiiti’s signature wit and charm that really shine through. He makes Thor, Loki and Hulk (and Banner) more likeable than they’ve ever been in the MCU and introduces new characters like Valkyrie and the Grandmaster that are instantly noteworthy. Stellar performances from practically the whole cast help to sell this, and we’re left with a movie that fully entertains while gearing us up for the MCU’s next big offering.
8. The Post Directed by Steven Spielberg
Tumblr media
Amidst all the hoopla surrounding Ready Player One, Spielberg manages to sneak away and make a movie with his dream team of Tom Hanks, John Williams and Janusz Kaminski. And include Meryl Streep. I mean, just on paper this looked to be a sure-fire success, and shockingly it doesn’t disappoint. It is absolutely a movie that speaks volumes about the current political climate in the United States, but it also honours the importance of investigative journalism and freedom of the press. Hanks delivers an incredible performance, but it is purely to support Streep’s powerhouse portrayal of Katharine Graham. She charts a fascinating and incredibly relevant character arc to show us just how important it is to find your voice and your courage in the face of prejudice.
9. The Big Sick Directed by Michael Showalter
Tumblr media
Being such an incredible comedic talent, Kumail Nanjiani is finally given a chance to create a personal story. Along with his wife Emily V. Gordon they deliver a comedy movie that is so much more than just funny. It is deeply affecting, introducing us to two leads that are charming and worth rooting for. Culturally, relationally and physically, they contend with serious struggles that makes their character arcs incredibly meaningful. This is one of the strongest screenplays of the year and a testament to passionate storytelling.
10. The Shape of Water Directed by Guillermo Del Toro
Tumblr media
The Shape of Water is very much Guillermo Del Toro at his best- telling an extremely humanistic story under a fantastical lens. As per most of his movies, it features an isolated hero searching for self-actualization. Mirroring this character with that of a monster, he subverts the idea of abnormal for a sense of harmony. He trusts his audience to be empathic, to see the benevolence in the creature and the compassion in Eliza. This is balanced by his clear depiction of immorality in Michael Shannon’s Colonel Stickland. Supported by incredible compositions from Alexandre Desplat and ethereal cinematography from Dan Laustsen, Del Toro once again proves that he is one of Hollywood’s most affecting storytellers and that even the most high concept fantasy stories can be poignant ones.
Honorable Mentions
War for the Planet of the Apes (Directed by Matt Reeves), God’s Own Country (Directed by Francis Lee), Mudbound (Directed by Dee Rees), Call Me By Your Name (Directed by Luca Guadagnino), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Directed by Martin McDonagh), The Florida Project (Directed by Sean Baker), Phantom Thread (Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson), Logan Lucky (Directed by Steven Soderbergh), The Disaster Artist (Directed by James Franco), Wind River (Directed by Taylor Sheridan)

FINAL POST!!                                          Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True
Tumblr media
It’s graduation week.  Four years of sharing album-of-the-week are over.  It’s important to wrap this up with a special album.  I’ve decided to go with one of the best debut albums ever, by one of my favorite musicians, for whom I have the utmost respect.  With this last album, I want to affirm that this effort was to support my daughter’s personal and professional interests in music (my aim was true).  Also, I wanted the graduation album to welcome her to the grown-up world of working for a living (”Welcome To The Working Week”).  And finally, since I’ve tied politics to so many of these albums, it feels appropriate - as President Trump continues to bring the country and perhaps the world to ruin (this week, by backing out of the Paris Climate Accord) - to close this project with the track, “Waiting For The End Of The World.”
1    "Welcome to the Working Week" 2    "Miracle Man" 3    "No Dancing" 4    "Blame It on Cain" 5    "Alison" 6    "Sneaky Feelings" 7    "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" 8    "Less Than Zero" 9    "Mystery Dance" 10  "Pay It Back" 11  "I'm Not Angry" 12  "Waiting for the End of the World"
Last week, T Bone Burnett’s name was one of those in the collaboration, and I mentioned his Academy Award winning work on the “Cold Mountain” soundtrack.  Well, Elvis Costello collaborated with T Bone to write the track “Scarlett Tide” for that soundtrack.  The collaborations Elvis has been a part of are numerous and, I’m sure, will go on and on.  He has made so much music in genres outside his punk-pop, new-wave origins that it defies categorization.  I recommend a Wikipedia search to keep track of it all.  Of late, what I have been most impressed with from Elvis is the musically collaborative TV show he did called “Spectacle: Elvis Costello with...”  I only saw a few episodes, but they were brilliant.  Check it out if you're so inclined.  It’s all available on DVD or BluRay.
In closing, I’d like to thank everyone who read my foolish posts (with especially large portions of thanks to those of you who occasionally corrected me) and everyone who listened along with us.  As a postscript, here is the entire list of 194 albums we listened to over this four-year project, and the date we started listening.  We started a little late, so we did two albums per week through the first summer session to try to catch up on the total count.  With occasional exceptions, the albums were pre-1999 (the year my daughter was born).  We followed some themes here and there, but mostly we just rocked out!

♫ 'Cause I’m just a girl, little ol’ me ♫
Once upon a time, there was a woman named Millie and a man named James. The two were together, but things started falling apart and James left Millie high and dry in her little apartment in Lincoln, Nebraska. Millie did her best to move on, only to realize that she was two months late.
So, yep, that was how Marley Rose entered the world. But if you asked her about it, she would just smile and say she grew up the best way possible. If her dad didn’t want her mom, why would she care about him? Her mom was always her hero, working long hours on her feet all day serving ungrateful kids in a school cafeteria, all so Marley could have a better future.
Millie and Marley never had much those first few years, but Marley never cared. Her favorite things to do were free or rather inexpensive, like singing to the radio or writing poems in her journal or watching Disney movies with her mom. Sure, she was never popular at school due to her mom’s job and she often wished she could get more presents on her birthday and for Christmas, but she was happy.
Eventually tragedy struck another part of Marley’s family. Her mom’s half-sister died from a car crash. Marley had met her Aunt Elizabeth a couple of times since they lived only a couple hours away, so the news truly shocked Marley. Her aunt was always so sweet and kind and she was so young. What was worse was that it left Elizabeth’s husband a widower and her daughter without a mother. Burt had no idea how to cook and clean, and his daughter was too young to take over those duties, as much as she tried to at first. So after some phone calls and tough decisions, the Roses moved down to Overland Park, Kansas, that summer. Marley was nine, nearly ten (that October birthday got her to start school a bit younger than everyone), and about to start fifth grade alongside her cousin, Katrina Hummel.
At first, things were awkward. Trying to find the new family dynamic was hard and Kat was so quiet and sullen at first. Marley couldn’t blame her; she didn’t know how she would do if her mom had died, even if she did have a dad. But over the summer, the two cousins grew closer. They bonded over the same things Marley loved to do back in Nebraska--singing, writing, and watching Disney movies. Marley always noticed that Kat stayed a bit silent when she brought up which prince she wanted to marry, but she knew not to ask her about it. She even bonded with her uncle Burt, since he liked watching football, which was basically a religious pastime in Nebraska - Marley was always going to root for the Huskers, even though Burt tried to convince her to be a Jayhawk fan.
School was a different story. Since Millie was working at a different school now, no one had a reason to make fun of the new kid until they realized she was related to Kat. A lot of kids were awful to Kat and she didn’t understand why. Eventually some kid said that Kat made out with another girl in the girls’ bathroom the year before. Kat denied it and insisted it was a rumor, but Marley didn’t quite get what the big deal was either way. She stuck by Kat’s side, which did neither of them favors. Both of them were ostracized throughout the rest of elementary school. But, well, at least they had each other, and that was more than enough.
As they grew older, things got better. While they were still each other’s best friends, more like sisters than cousins, they managed to make more friends. There was a fashion club that welcomed Kat with open arms, and Marley managed to convince her to join a few musical programs with her.
Throughout middle and high school, Marley also found herself learning guitar and getting Kat to teach her piano. She was never as good at piano as Kat was and she wasn’t any sort of Taylor Swift on guitar, but Marley used it as a way to make those poems she wrote into songs. Her old beaten diary started carrying small melodies written in the margins and chords shoved under lines of poetry.
The summer before their sophomore year of high school, they both ended up confiding huge secrets in each other. Marley told Kat about her songs, something she had never admitted to anyone. Kat, of course, had a bigger secret to divulge and, while they sat on the couch in their shared bedroom, Kat told Marley she liked girls. Admittedly, Marley wasn’t really that shocked. While she wasn’t a stereotypical lesbian, there had been signs, and not just that totally false rumor in elementary school. So Marley was able to help comfort a stressed and worried Kat and helped her come out to the rest of their family.
Something else big happened that school year, though. After some rude comments, dress size dilemmas, and body insecurities, Marley started finding herself purposefully taking too long to get ready for school so she wouldn’t have time for breakfast. She’d skip lunch most days and just eat dinner so her family wouldn’t get suspicious. The more stressed she got, the less she ate, which led to her fainting before the practice PSAT at school. But it wasn’t until Kat found Marley bent over a toilet with fingers shoved down her throat that she was forced to get help.
Between her mom, Burt, and Kat, Marley was supported throughout therapy treatments. Kat was nearly obsessive, reading every bit of advice she could get her hands on and doing whatever she could to help Marley through her disorder. Kat became even more of a rock in Marley’s life, and Marley knew she wanted and needed her there.
♫ Well don’t let me out of your sight ♫
The idea of going to college without Kat nearby was terrifying. So when Kat stated she was applying to schools in New York City for fashion, Marley immediately followed suit and applied to music schools in the same city. With her grades and financial needs, Marley was able to score a pretty good scholarship, and the two ended up in New York together, sharing a crappy apartment and enjoying freedom together.
Through her commercial music program, Marley soon met Norah Puckerman. Something about Norah’s attitude actually reminded Marley of Kat once she got to know her, but she was also unlike any other person Marley had met. She had this raw confidence and this lack of a filter that made her so fun to talk to, and that voice and those skills on guitar...Marley was amazed by her. And she was even more amazed that Norah found her fascinating back. The two were put together for a songwriting project, and the results were simply amazing. They started hanging out more and more, jamming together and talking about their favorite musicians while they did homework at Marley and Kat’s place. Eventually, after loving all of her collaboration with Norah, Marley suggested they start a band. After a bit of hesitation, Norah agreed.
Kat took a little more time to convince. Kat always wanted to make clothes, not albums, and she was already busy with her YouTube channel. Marley pointed out that Kat played upright bass in orchestra for a few years and she was the one who taught Marley piano. Marley found an old electric bass at a secondhand store and she already had a keyboard in the apartment that she used for school, and so Kat decided to join for the hell of it.
The three of them put up flyers around town and ads on Craigslist to find other members, eventually scoring a rhythm guitarist, Quinn Fabray. Quinn completely nailed her audition, and after some time working together, she eventually came up with calling themselves “The Sirens”. And that was the name that stuck.
Marley would always note that they found a drummer who lasted for a little while, but, for whatever reason, they could never get a drummer that actually fit their band. They wanted a female drummer since their band name and all, but female drummers were always in other bands. Whatever, they worked around it with their sound and either hired drummers for gigs or programmed a keyboard with a beat.
Over the next few years, they practiced covers and wrote new material in between their own class work. They offered their services at all kinds of events and at open mics around town, slowly working their way up to paying gigs, including weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and bars that wanted live music. Eventually they were heard at a paying gig by Sabrina Smythe who quickly signed on as their manager. That led to a demo and then a record contract and then, in Marley’s final semester of college, an album. The first single, “Crazy Things” was released just a couple of weeks before Marley, Norah, and Kat graduated and the album was released soon after their graduations. The album eventually became much bigger than they ever could’ve dreamed. Suddenly Marley was getting tons of new followers on her social media profiles and comments raging from nasty anti-feminist tweets to emoji-ridden sentences ending with #puckerose.
Now the band is about to start on its first world tour to promote their second album, Persephone in the Underworld. Marley is beyond excited to see what happens, but, well, she’s a bit nervous, too. Of course she is, who wouldn’t be? It’s hard, and part of her worries her old issues with food will start to flare up even more, especially since she’s been toying with the idea of becoming vegan. She’s had some issues in the past of it flaring up when she’s stressed, so it’s a real issue she has to fight against. It doesn’t help now that she’s in the public eye and constantly judged on how she looks; she’s seen people say she’s too thin one day and then the next day she’s apparently put on too much weight. Her past eating disorder is an issue only the band and Sabrina know about, and while all of them care about her and want her to be safe, Kat and Norah are obnoxiously overprotective. Maybe it’s well deserved, seeing as Marley does feel the pressure of touring, and she does catch herself not eating from time to time, but she’s got it under control.
Regardless, all this watching and parenting by her friends is just starting to annoy her. Sometimes it feels like she’s never truly gotten to live; between being a responsible student in college and watched over by her family and band-family so closely and then being a role model as a celebrity, Marley has barely even been to a real party. She hasn’t even been completely drunk before! Just kind of tipsy! So her main goal on this tour, besides giving great performances for her fans, is to live a little. And if that means having to sneak around her friends in order to do so...well, that’s just what she’ll have to do.
♫ Oh I’m just a girl, all pretty and petite ♫
Katrina Hummel: Kat is Marley’s rock, her soul sister, her fashion guide, her, well, everything. During their last tour, Marley definitely leaned on Kat a lot, especially since they always ended up rooming together when they were offered two bedrooms to split between the four band members. And as grateful as Marley is for Kat and as much as she loves her and her constant support, she can’t help but feel a little suffocated at times. Marley knows the protection comes from a good place, but she wants her independence. That’s why she’s relieved that Kat has found herself a studio and that Norah agreed to live in a place with her. And now they both decided to split up and room with different band members this time around; Kat’s going to keep an eye on Norah and Marley gets to room with Quinn. It’s also why she’s glad Kat and Kitty have hit it off so well, since Kat needs a distraction.
Norah Puckerman: Marley is insanely inspired by Norah’s talent and personality and everything. She knows Norah admires her for her optimism after what she considers a “hard” life, but Marley doesn’t see it as anything special, especially not compared to Norah’s life. Marley loves writing songs with Norah and is sure they wouldn’t be half as good if Norah wasn’t there. She’s forever grateful for so much of what Norah has done for her, like encouraging her talents and making her laugh and teaching her some street smarts sort of things. Sadly, Norah’s a lot like Kat with the protectiveness thing, or, well, at least she is now. Marley was looking forward to living with her and thought it would be a lot of fun, seeing as Norah was always the one who tried to buy shots for everyone when they were underage. But somewhere between the move and recording their second album, Norah suddenly became as over-protective as Kat. Maybe even more worse. Marley knows she should feel grateful that Norah keeps checking up on her about how much she’s eaten, but she hates being treated like a child all the time.
Quinn Fabray: Marley has always been impressed with Quinn, ever since she marched into their audition with her high heeled boots and smoky eye shadow, her acoustic guitar in hand. Quinn has more talent than she even seems to realize, from song writing to guitar and flute playing to singing, something Marley keeps trying to encourage her to do more of. She loves Quinn, especially since she doesn’t treat her like a little kid. Quinn cares about her, but she knows Marley can handle herself and doesn’t need to be mothered. Sometimes Quinn seems to be the only one who recognizes that, which Marley appreciates. In fact, when Marley admitted she wanted to go out and live a bit more, Quinn agreed to help her.
Rachel Berry: Originally “Stars in the Sky” was going to be a duet between Marley and Norah, but Sabrina said they should use this new singer on their label. So Marley and Rachel worked out some different harmonies for Rachel’s voice and changed some lyrics and...woah. Rachel pushed some great work out of her and Marley pushed her as well, and that song ended up being one of her favorites on the whole album. Beyond that, Rachel has been nothing but nice to her, and she’s been enjoying her company. Although, she’s noticed that Rachel seems really stressed about the tour. While she doesn’t think it’s her place to interfere, she’s made sure to ask about her day and try to lift up her spirits when she sees her. Marley’s even volunteered to give her some touring tips, since she knows how truly stressful it can be. And hopefully all the stress she’s seeing is really just in her head or something.
Samantha Evans: So, Marley’s dated a few guys, and she’s had sex and she’s enjoyed it for the most part. She never really put a label on her sexuality, though she always just assumed she was straight. However, that view has been challenged by one Samantha Evans. At first, Marley just enjoyed talking with Sam and hearing her various impressions, and the two bonded over growing up rather poor, even if Marley eventually got extra support from moving in with the Hummels. Then she saw Sam’s abs, and finally noticed her lips and her eyes and suddenly the girl she had always seen as dorky but beautiful was now hot. It’s just a little crush and she’s trying not to think about it, since it just makes her question a lot of things she had assumed to be true over the years.
Kitty Wilde: Marley was excited to meet Kitty, since Quinn made it out to be that she was basically a miniature version of her. But when Marley finally met her and got to spend time with her one-on-one, Kitty didn’t really say much. Even Quinn later commented on how Kitty was acting weird. And that continued on for a while, basically until Kitty’s band signed under the same label. Slowly but surely, Marley has gotten to know Kitty’s personality, and she makes her laugh a whole bunch. She hopes to get to know her better on tour, especially since she’s been such a great friend for Kat...and Marley’s probably wrong, but she thinks Kitty might be into Kat. And seeing as Kat wants a girlfriend (and could use a distraction from babysitting Marley every minute of their lives), Marley might be “shipping” them. Just a little. What? #KittyKat is cute, so who cares if she tries to push it a little?
Blair Anderson: Blair confided in Marley that she was intimidated by her at first, which made Marley laugh. Intimidated? By her? Really? But it was meant to be a compliment about her stage persona which, honestly, made her feel really good about herself and helped her build up some confidence for performances on her lower-energy days. Blair’s been really sweet and thoughtful, and Marley’s heard she’s written some songs. Maybe some day, if she has the time, she’ll give them a listen. After all, she could use that push, right?
Jackie Puckerman: Jackie is someone Marley hasn’t really talked to much, but she seems sweet. It’s also kind of adorable seeing her look up so much to Norah, and she’s a killer dancer. It’s actually pretty insane to watch her move. But, beyond that, they don’t necessarily talk much, but maybe that’ll change on tour. Hopefully it will. She especially likes how much she talks to and supports Norah; Marley loves Norah, but having anyone distracting her in any way would be helpful for her, honestly.
Santana Lopez: Santana is hilarious, for one thing, and she’s been really nice to Marley. It’s actually kind of strange, since Marley didn’t expect her to get along with her so easily since she can be a bit...intense. But the two of them have gotten along well and Santana has even brought up the idea of getting her some sponsors and ads for instagram and that makes her super excited. Santana also always has excellent advice, and Marley appreciates it.
Fiona Hudson: Soooo Fiona’s kind of like Marley’s family now? Despite basically being sisters with Kat, they’re actually only half-cousins or something weird like that. Barely related, but related. So Fiona would be like a step-cousin, which really isn’t anything, but whatever. Regardless, Marley is well aware that her best friend isn’t too fond of her new stepsister, and she gets it. Marley’s actually pretty relieved to not have to share her mom anymore, no matter how selfish that sounds (and, no, she hasn’t told anyone that). But she also gets Fiona’s point of view and wants the two of them to get along, at least for the sake of Burt and Carole. So Marley’s acting as Switzerland, and hopefully she can get the two of them to actually get along. Or at least talk.
Sabrina Smythe: As much as Marley respects Sabrina, she doesn’t always get her. Maybe it’s just a part of being in the entertainment industry. Or, more likely, maybe Marley just feels like that because Sabrina never seems to realize how Kat looks at her and that is totally not okay with her, since her cousin deserves someone that sees how amazing she is. It doesn’t help matters that Sabrina pushes for more Puckerose posts, something that makes Marley uncomfortable since it’s basically lying to her friends. There’s also the fact that Sabrina wants Marley to come forward on her past ED issues is another problem. Marley wants to help others who may have that problem, as Sabrina has pointed out, but she’s not ready to reveal something so personal. She’s not sure she ever will be.
♫ So don’t let me have any rights ♫
How does it feel to be “shipped” with one of your best friends?
I think it’s cute. But only to an extent, you know? I don’t mind people thinking we’d make a good couple, it’s only hard when people get pushy about it, since, you know, we are just best friends. Dating Norah would be like dating my mom… Otherwise it doesn’t bother me too much, Norah is definitely a catch and if I thought we’d ever work as more, I’d want to jump on that opportunity, who wouldn’t??
Are you afraid of an eating disorder relapse?
I’m not sure afraid is the right word for it. It’s always going to be with me and while I’ve learned to deal with the things that are difficult for me, there’s always a possibility that I could resort back to bad habits. If I let myself be scared, it’ll be on my mind too much. Not that it really leaves… the internet is a black hole of body image picking and trust me, staying away from that will be the best way to keep me from going that path again.
JBI asks: Do you ever get annoyed with your bandmates?
Seriously? We spend like 99% of our time together, so yeah, sometimes we all get a little snippy. But on a general level? Nope. These girls are my family and I love them so much, without them I’d never be close to where I am, so if I’m every annoyed it’s short lived.
