Pompeo Batoni (Italian, 1708-1787) St. Peter, c.1740-43 National Trust, Basildon Park "And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept" (Mark 14:72). In the Gospel of Matthew 16:19, Jesus says to Peter, "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Prime’s Wheel of Time has cracked open my creative block in entirely unexpected ways. I’m writing fanfic? And not only am I trying digital painting again for the first time in well over a decade, I’m sharing it online. (Who even am I?)

This is inspired by Pompeo Batoni’s painting The Death of Mark Antony.
In the painting, Mark Antony has just given himself a mortal wound believing there’s no hope and that Cleopatra is lost. The sorrow in the body language and expressions in Batoni’s painting catch my breath. My interpretation of book Moiraine and Siuan is that neither would allow themselves the time to feel and show this moment of loss (looking at you Fires of Heaven) so I guess I wanted to let them have that…
Episode 2x07 broke my heart and also I still see how it can be true to their beautiful, sorrowful relationship.
