with Liz Truss in power things might just get worse for transgender people in the UK. she has outright said that trans women are not women. she was one of the people responsible for scrapping self-identification. she has pushed for government agencies to withdraw funding from stonewall UK, the country's largest LGBTQ+ group following appeals from TERF activists. she has given conflicting views on conversion therapy over the years, so it's anybody's guess whether there's going to be any progress on a ban under her leadership. she appointed baroness kishwer falkner to the EHRC, who promptly said that her watchdog would protect freedom of belief, including "gender critical" beliefs- and added that it is "entirely reasonable" to question a trans person's gender identity. transphobic hate crime reports have quadrupled over the past five years in the UK. the transgender community, particularly black trans women within it, is the most targeted community under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. 41% of trans people have experienced a hate crime or incident because of their gender identity. 34% of black, asian, and minority ethnic LGBT people have experienced a hate crime or incident in the last 12 months, compared to 20% of white LGBT people (source: stonewall uk) something needs to be done here and she has the power to change things now, but things are scarily uncertain for us at the moment.
