Tumblr media
“I know you said you shouldn’t get too close to me,” Kara murmurs, holding Lena tightly against herself as their swaying slows. “That you’re afraid. But I can't do the same. I can’t stop myself.”
“Neither can I,” Lena admits in a whisper. “Not with you.”
Lena’s eyes are closed, letting the song and the closeness and the pure feeling of the night wash over her.
Some tension leaves Kara’s body.
“I am so in love with you, Lena.”
Kara’s breath shudders as she says it. Almost a laugh. A sound of relief, of anxiety, of inevitability. The song ends, and their swaying comes to a stop.
Lena wants to say it back. She feels it. She does love Kara, so deeply that it feels like it’s embedded in the marrow of her bones. Why is saying it so different? Why does it stick in her throat?
There’s no pressure or expectation in Kara’s face when Lena pulls back slightly to meet her eyes. Just pure adoration. But she deserves to know that Lena feels it, too.
Lena does everything she can to show Kara in a kiss.

Eddie is sixteen and his magic is incredibly volatile. He's powerful and he has trouble not accidentally casting when his emotions are high (which is always) or casting on a whim, not being careful enough of his words, and suffering the unintended consequences. Wayne ends up hiding the grimoires and family journals until Eddie learns a little more control, and is the first to realize that Eddie casts better while he's playing music. They develop a system, by no means perfect, where Eddie composes a song based on how the spell feels.
Sixteen is also the year Eddie falls in love. He's always known he liked boys, but never thought about relationships. He lives in Hawkins and is a witch, for god's sake. He sneaks off to Indy, goes to bars, but can't imagine having something like a boyfriend.
Jackson is new in town, already 17 but in Eddie's grade. It starts as friendship, but before long Jackson kisses him. Eddie thinks it's like a fairytale. It ends when Jackson's military dad is transferred to a base overseas. It's mundane. It rips Eddie's heart to shreds.
After, Eddie does a spell. He knows he shouldn't; he's too upset and his magic is unpredictable at the best of times. He doesn't care. He grabs his guitar, starts playing. The song is melodic, layered, sad. He starts babbling, casting a spell to never fall in love by creating the most beautiful, unrealistic boy in the world. He won't remember some of what he says--and that's a problem-- but knows he talks about a boy with a map of the night sky on his body, the loneliest king, the prettiest man in Hawkins, jock with a heart of gold, lover of nerds and small children, throws himself into danger with little thought for the consequences, shockingly kind, fantastically mean. He knows this person can't be real, too many contradictions, too many impossibilities.
Enter Steve Harrington.
Eddie knows Steve. Everyone does. And sure, the guy is hot as hell, but the worst kind of douchebag jock, so Eddie never really considers him worth thinking of. And that would probably continue, but his new Hellfire recruits think the sun shines out of Harrington's ass, and apparently Robin Buckley is his best friend. It doesn't add up and Eddie's usually great at math.
Time passes and he starts to get it. He watches Dustin and Harrington do the dorkiest, nerdiest handshake and the joy that contorts Steve's face. It's so fucking beautiful, Eddie has to look away. He comes upon Harrington and Erica Sinclair bickering, both smart-assing, listens to the way Erica giggles about it once she thinks no one can hear. Or when he watches Steve drop Max Mayfield at home--Max who Eddie has never once seen smile, who he's always been just a little bit afraid of--and she's laughing and teasing him, beaming.
It's inevitable when they become friends. Steve is a wonder. Constantly a surprise. So pretty it's like looking directly at the sun. When Steve tells Eddie that he's bisexual, it drops off his tongue with no hint of unease, no consideration for how he's upending Eddie's world view.
One night they're getting high, just the two of them, and he's asking if Steve wants to shotgun and Steve smirks and leans in, and then they're kissing. Doing way more than kissing.
They keep hooking up, but it's nothing. It's Steve Harrington. Steve Harrington who wants the all-American white picket fence, wife, 2.5 kids, and a dog. Not a dnd playing-metalhead-nerd-witch dude. And if Eddie feels himself growing inexplicably more and more fond, well, he's made damn sure love isn't in the cards for him anymore.
They're laying in Eddie's bed one night, Eddie tracing gentle fingers between the moles and freckles on Steve's back.
"That tickles," Steve murmurs. "What are you doing?"
"Mapping the constellations," he whispers.
Steve's laugh vibrates Eddie's ribcage, as does the rumble of his voice saying, "my mom used to do that when I was a kid. Said she was looking for the big dipper."
He presses his lips against the top of Steve's spine to stop from saying something unkind about his parents, who never loved their absolute gift of a son enough, leaving him lonely and forgotten in that big, cold house. He freezes as soon as he has the thought, remembers that spell. It's nothing, of course. The spell was to repel love, not get Steve Harrington into his bed.
They keep sleeping together, spend almost all their time together. Eddie's enamored but it doesn't matter. Steve isn't his, not really, and never will be. Eddie made sure of it.
But one day Steve comes over and sees this old Casio keyboard Gareth brought over.
Steve flips it on, starts hitting notes; at first dicking around, but then sliding into Clare de Lune.
"You play the piano?" Eddie asks. He knows he has a dopey smile on his face, his heart doing something terrible in his chest even though he's not in love.
"Took lessons until I was ten," Steve smiles up at him, blushing when their eyes meet.
Eddie has to walk away or he's going to do something like drop to one knee and propose. Steve keeps playing, transitioning from Debussy to something infinitely sweeter, so sad it makes Eddie's heart ache.
He stands in the doorway to his bedroom for at least thirty seconds, before storming back into the living room. "What are you playing?" he demands.
It startles Steve, whose fingers still as he looks at Eddie with giant eyes. "Uh, I don't know. It gets stuck in my head sometimes. I thought it was Ozzy or Dio or whatever. It only happens when we're together. You don't recognize it?"
Eddie recognizes it. Eddie recognizes it and Steve shouldn't know it. Eddie didn't write it down , just like he didn't write down the words of the spell.
"Get out," he says. Mean because he's trying not to fall apart.
"What? Eds, what're y--"
"No, you need to leave, Harrington. Right fucking now."
"Eddie, tell me what I did. Let me fix it, please."
"Not on you. But you have to go," Eddie is shaking and Steve's eyes fill with tears.
He doesn't fight, though. His mouth pinches and he shoves his way outside.
Eddie panics and cries, tries to remember as much of that fucking spell as he can before Wayne comes home.
The first words out of Wayne's mouth when he sees Eddie curled up on the couch are, "What'd you do this time, kid?"
He spills it all, every last detail, and Wayne listens in silence, eyebrows peaked.
"It's that Harrington boy?" He asks when the tale is told.
"How'd you know?" Eddie asks.
"Are you kidding me? I see the way you look at each other. You love him?"
Eddie nods, burying his face in his knees. "He doesn't want this, though. He only likes me because I fucking spelled him to."
Wayne rests a hand on Eddie's shoulder. "Kid, I thought I taught you magic better than that. Better go make things right while you can. Then we're going to have a long talk."
Eddie wants to ask what the point is in making it right. It's already too late, after what he's done. Still, he makes the drive to Loch Nora.
Steve opens the door in sweatpants and a stretched out t-shirt, his hair undone. He's sad, Eddie realizes.
"You here to tell me what I did yesterday?"
"Like I said, it wasn't you. Can I come in?"
Steve nods, steps aside.
"Well?" Steve prompts.
Eddie explains exactly what he did four years ago, what it lead them to. When he finishes, he braces for Steve's anger, for yelling. Instead, Steve throws his head back and laughs.
"You're not mad?" Eddie asks. "Or you're so mad that all you can do is laugh?"
"Not mad," Steve confirms.
"Why not? How can you trust me now? Trust this?" He gestures between them.
"I don't know, dude. It's not like you...designed me, or something. I didn't wake up one day when I was fifteen with a bunch of new moles. I told you about my mom. Plus, that would be medically concerning. And I definitely already had crushes on other boys. So, you didn't make me bi."
"What about being kind? What about the kids and being protective?"
Steve just shrugs. "I think a lot of that was due to Nancy, but I guess I can't stay it wasn't the spell."
"You're too calm about this. I took away your free will!"
"Did you?" Steve raises an eyebrow, way too unbothered. "Maybe the spell brought us together. Took a damn long time to do it, but I don't feel like I have no choice in this." He turns more towards Eddie, taking his hands. "I like what we have. But if you don't feel that way, we can end it."
It's Eddie's turn to laugh. "Not feel that way? Harrington, I don't know if you've heard, but you're the man of my dreams. I am, unfortunately, wildly in love with you. I just--this isn't what you want, right? Not forever. You want a wife. Kids. All that shit."
"Who says? We could have a family, Eds, if we want. Hell, we already do! We're raising six kids. And, yeah, maybe I will decide I want a wife and all that one day. I'm 90% sure nothing magical is stopping me. The only thing that is, the thing that matters, is that I want you. Not because of a spell." Steve smiles, face turning a delicious pink. "But because I love you too."
He squeezes his eyes shut to force back the tears that want to fall, kisses Steve instead. Their mouths slide together in perfect sync, and Eddie wants to get lost in it forever; in Steve's lips on his, the snag of his teeth, the way he clutches at Eddie's curls.
When they pull apart, Steve starts laughing again. "I can't believe I'm your perfect man."
"Oh my god," Eddie's face flares with heat. "You have to forget this ever happened. Your ego's too big as it is."
"Nah, this? This I'm remembering forever."
They kiss for a long time before Steve says, "I think I understand why that song was so sad now. You should write us a new one."
Eddie pulls Steve close, thinking that he'll write Steve whatever he wants for the rest of their lifetime.

Of all of your AUs, which one is the most insane about celebrating Halloween? Is it Anthony or Kate that is more invested in the costumes in the theme and the decorations? Do the Bridgertons get into any kind of neighborhood competitions for the scariest haunted house of the block?
To be honest, I think the only AU where they do it up big for Halloween is my practical magic AU Woman Taken by the wind. Kate’s a witch, so obviously Halloween is a pretty special time for them.
And Anthony’s first Halloween with them seems pretty special, honestly. He laughs when he sees Kate dressed like and actual witch, with a pointed hat and a black dress and a broomstick.
“Oh well well well.” Anthony chuckled, flicking them brim of her hat, “I thought we agreed these hats were a harmful stereotype.”
“Well, I need to give the people what they expect today of all days.”
Anthony laughed as Kate clicked her fingers and a black cat appeared, settling itself on the porch of her mother’s house.
“I thought magic wasn’t supposed to be about little tricks.”
“And then I fell in love with a cute little policeman who can never find is keys and i figured that doing minor magic is okay.”
“Oh, you’re funny.” Anthony rolled his eyes, leaning forward to brush their lips together, “You’re very funny.”

this was random today, a Charmed/Practical Magic au? Idk, this just happened lol
So Daniel is a witch, he knew he was because his mom, Grace, is a witch. His dad, Joe, is a shapeshifter and chose to be Grace's protector. And his big brother Mark had gotten his powers of foresight two years ago.
Michelle came into her own last year, a shapeshifter like their dad. That meant that Daniel and Oscar were the next in line to gain their witchy gifts. They had to complete the power of three or whatever.
Oscar was still too young, a baby by anyone's standards so it truly was just Daniel. Mark said it would be soon but he couldn’t tell just how soon. Because of course, the visions don’t like work like that.
Daniel was antsy because truly, he just wanted to know if he’d have a physical power like telekinesis or freezing time or something elemental. Or if he’d have a more passive power like spell writing or potions or whatever. He was down for anything but he truly just wanted to know.
Enter Max.
Daniel knew he was coming because this morning before he left the house, a broom fell in the doorway and blocked his path. It also knocked over his mom’s favourite blue agate crystal and chipped off a bit.
Grace hadn’t even batted an eye, she only handed Daniel the chipped bit and told him to have a good day. He’d been walking on campus looking at his new crystal in the glare of the sun when he, quite literally, walked into Max. Daniel went sprawling, all tattooed limbs and Max had tried to catch him, only to end up being pulled down on top of him.
Max blushes hard and stumbles over apologies and hefts them both up and Daniel can only pay attention to how his eyes are SO blue like the agate crystal that broke this morning. And then he realizes that Max is who was coming and he looks at the chipped bit thats still in his palm and hands it out to Max who looks at him confused but helpless to resist. He touches the crystal because Daniel hasn’t really said anything and he’s new around here and maybe he was like non verbal? And this was his way of apologising?
And then that's when Daniel realizes that the whole world froze around them.
And well fuck, because of course he would have a chaotic ass power that happens chaotically.
“Fuck.” Daniel mumbles looking around. Literally everyone but them was frozen in place, the birds were stuck, the trees were in a weird tilt because of the wind that had been blowing. Curiously Daniel watched Max who was also looking around in wonder and awe. It was interesting that he also wasn’t frozen. He didn’t know what it meant, but he knew someone who did.
“What's going on?” Max whispered, head flashing from person to person who just seemed…stuck. As if someone pressed pause on a video. It was eerily quiet and still.
“I’m Daniel.” Daniel reached his hand out with a disarming smile. Max took it tentatively, the small crystal nestled inbetween their palms.
“Max.” Max was torn between being worried as hell and dumbstruck by Daniel’s smile. He didn’t have a chance to think though, because the world startled back into movement around them.
We got a part2???

Dark Lena AU
Its actually a possession a la Practical Magic. Lena and Ruby or Esme are messing around with a ouija board, and a spirit comes around, senses Lena's power, and jumps aboard.
She doesn't even really know whats happening as her personality is slowly influenced by this dark entity. Until the aforementioned argument where Lena tries to throw the rift in Kara's face and Kara is like "nuh uh. Not happening."
Kara calls on other witches in National City for help containing Lena and expelling the dark passenger. Having been found out, the entity begins devouring Lena, and her struggle to hold onto herself is made physically apparent by the time the other witches come to help.
Together, they weaken the entity just enough to expel it from Lena's body. And once freed, Lena has just enough strength and magic to vanquish the thing once and for all with a piercing light that banishes back to whence it came.

Got tagged by @daffi-990 for Tease Tidbit Tuesday, so have a little bit of Practical Magic!
Eddie holds the ball of light out to Buck and says, “Look. This is one of the first spells any witch learns. All it’s doing is making the magic visible. I want you to try it.” “How?” Buck asks. The light blinks out as Eddie drops the spell and reaches for Buck’s hand. “All you have to do,” he explains softly, turning Buck’s hand over in his own so that Buck’s palm is facing up, “is close your eyes and feel your magic. Once you feel it, reach for it with your hand and the light should show up.” Buck closes his eyes for a moment, then lifts his arm and reaches across the table blindly. “No,” Eddie laughs, “your magic’s not over there. Keep your hand still. Close your eyes. Focus on feeling your magic.” He grasps Buck’s hand and cups it gently between his, holding it still at the center of the table. Buck frowns at him, but closes his eyes as instructed.  “Can you feel it?” Eddie asks. A little furrow appears in Buck’s brow as he concentrates. “I- I think so?” “Ok, now without physically moving your arm I want you to reach for your magic. Reach toward that feeling until you’re holding it in your hand.” Buck’s hand flexes and tenses as Eddie holds it, but doesn’t actually move this time. His face screws up as he concentrates, and after a few moments a tiny pinprick of light begins to shine just above Buck’s palm.
And I'll tag (no pressure!) @machtaholic, @zahlibeth, @ladydorian05, @piratefalls, @poetry-protest-pornography, @911-on-abc, @indiearr, @onyxmoonstone and of course anyone who wants to be tagged but hasn't been yet, please consider yourself tagged now!

Okay but have we considered a marauders Practical Magic AU? (for spooky szn)
My pitch is that Remus and Lily are sister witches- Lily is Nicole Kidman (obviously) and Remus is Sandra Bullock. Lily runs off with Snape and Remus casts the “never fall in love” spell, and then years later Lily calls Remus in a panic because Snape is abusing her and so Remus goes to her and they “accidentally” kill Snape and then magic him back alive and then kill him again and bury him in the backyard.
And then private investigator duo Sirius and James come to town investigating Snape’s disappearance (possibly they are both girls in this or maybe just Sirius, we’re definitely doing sapphic Wolfstar, but I will abide hetero Jily) (also they are PI’s instead of cops because cops are not sexy)
Anyway of course they all fall in love and banish revenant Snape back to the spirit world and break generational curses and all that.
Let me know what you think!!!

Biscuits and Moon Magic a magical Tedbecca AU ✨
“She hadn’t planned on going there intending to meet someone, but of course, her best friend had to go and have a bit of harmless fun.
Ted was a sweet, kind-hearted man who ran a bakery and coached the town's high school football team. A sweet, handsome man who had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Or, if you ask her other best friend, Keeley, right where he should have been.”

you're in my blood, like holy wine (chapter 2)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, have some Practical Magic AU!!!
Tumblr media
"Your eyes," Kara says. There's something charged in her voice, something emotional and unstable as she seems to drink in something Lena can't comprehend. Something urgent.
"What about them?"
Kara's eyes dart back and forth between Lena's, like she's been searching desperately for something all her life and only just found it there. It makes Lena's heart hammer in her chest.
"They're – they're different colours."
Kara is so close. Her breath is warm, and with her gazing so intently Lena can see all the details in Kara's eyes – the variation in the shades of blue, the warm flecks of hazel, the jagged ring of grey around her iris. It's like spiral hypnosis, and Lena's voice is low and whispery when she manages to speak.
"Yes?"
Kara swallows. The slow bob of her throat almost draws Lena's eyes away. Almost. "I thought they were green. But – one is…"
Kara's hand, which had been reaching out as if to touch Lena's cheek under the eye in question, drops suddenly when Lena glances at it.
"Blue."

WIP Wednesday 8/30
i'm so glad people wanna read this omg!!! here you go!!
****
Andrew woke in the middle of the night and snuck down into the greenhouse. He picked leaves and flowers from various plants, trying to remember what magical properties each possessed. Rue for protection. Borage for bravery and courage. Chamomile for luck.  Devil’s Ivy for resilience. And of course, some rose petals for love. Once he was satisfied with his ingredients, he began to think about his plan.
Andrew had never cast a spell on his own before, but how hard could it be? You just gather some magical things, say a few words, and believe really hard. Or at least, that’s what he gathered from watching Bee perform her spells from his hiding place on the stairs. Technically he and Aaron were too young to really start lessons, unlike Nicky, but he was curious so he’d sneak in and watch them work from time to time. He could do this.
He looked over the words he had scrawled onto a scrap piece of paper, even though he knew them by heart:
He will hear my call a mile away
He can run faster than anyone else
He’ll have hair like fire and eyes like ice
He will be mean and kind at the same time
He will be a liar but never lie to me
He will always know what I mean even when i’m not saying anything
He will never hurt me on purpose

Terra kept looking between Kat and the letter.  “Like I said, your letter really resonated with me.” Kat looked away.  “Why?”  “You ever read something and it’s like someone put into words exactly what you were thinking? That’s how it felt. It was like you understood me… Like you called to me, you know?”
or as Bex put it quite eloquently, "The Practical Magic AU no one asked for, but everyone needs."
@imfunnyandrude you are utterly insane and i adore every fic you create. thanks for being my katerra partner in crime. thank you for putting up with my insanity, and thank you for this lovely fic!!!!!!

Surprising no one (excluding myself because I'm plenty surprised), we have a part 2? Truly flying by the seat of my pants here. This happened because I tried a new tea blend today..
Part 1 of our Charmed/Practical Magic AU
Part 2
So Daniel takes Max back to his house because there's no way they’re going to sit through hours of lecture after this. Max is….freaking out a little. Rightfully so. But Daniel knows that Grace will fix him right up!
They’re at the ranch and Grace is waiting for them in the kitchen, she places a cup of tea in front of Daniel’s favourite bar stool.
“Mama, this is Max. I think we saw him coming.” Daniel announced, attempting to offer her back the agate crystal. She shook her head, motioning for him to keep it. She didn’t even try to touch it. Daniel shrugs and puts it back in his pocket because, well he’s used to his mom’s witchy idiosyncrasies.
“Hi. I… I don’t like hot drinks.” Max didn’t want to seem rude but he also figured it would be ruder to not drink the drink she offered.
“Good, so Mark was right this time.” Grace hummed before offering a glass of iced tea to Max instead. He took it hesitantly because he was sure the cup on the counter behind her had been a mug instead.
Max looked around the house, well the kitchen. It was one of those older designs, before everyone knocked down all their walls for an ‘open concept’ design. It all seemed normal, but something wasn’t right about any of this. He was tense, shoulders at his ears. Because the whole world paused…but this guy, Daniel, didn’t seem to be weirded out as much as Max had been.
“Hi Max, my name is Grace– I’m Daniel’s mother. Just have a seat and drink up and I’ll explain everything I can.”
“Something did happen!” Max’s eyes widened. He was just about ready to compartmentalize and pretend it didn’t happen but now… Now answers were being offered. He looked down at the iced tea in his glass warily.
“It's just tea, some chamomile, rose and mint with some honey. To calm your nerves a bit. I promise.” Grace smiled a very maternal ‘I’ll take care of you’ smile at him and Max nodded and sipped the drink. He tasted the earthy tones and it didn’t taste like there was anything extra. But then again, he didn’t know what poison tastes like.
Everyone and everything looked normal, but Max thought there was….something about this house. He’d felt it the moment Daniel had pulled into the driveway. It wasn’t spine chilling per say but more like he needed to pop his ears. They weren’t high up in any altitude, if anything the house sat in a valley.
Max watches Grace as she bustled around the kitchen, mixing things in a bowl. It smelled lovely like there was bread in the oven. He felt like he was out of his body a little. Daniel was beside him watching him closely, he could feel his eyes on it. Max thought that the most interesting thing about this day would have been him fantasizing in class about how pretty Daniel was and maybe beating himself up about not getting his number.
Now though..
Max turned to Daniel, “everything froze today, that– that happened right?” He’d asked him that in the truck already on the drive over and Daniel had said yes then. He nodded again, saying yes now. But that made Grace freeze and rush over to Daniel and hug him.
“Congrats my baby!” She gushed and Max was even more confused now.
“Thanks mama, I figured we’d talk about it after.” Daniel was sheepish and Grace kissed his forehead. Max didn’t think he’d be jealous of someone's mom, but here we are. Today was a day of wonders.
“What’s going on, truly.” Max whispered and Grace turned to him, she didn’t touch him he noticed.
“Max, this is going to sound like a shock, but our family, we’re supernatural beings. Daniel and I are witches.” Grace said calmly, watching Max’s reaction closely, Daniel looked stressed as fuck.
Max’s eyes widened, no shit. Well that’s….that’s something. But how did he come into all of this?
Luckly, Grace continued before he could ask. Because he didn’t think it would come out very politely.
“We think you might be one of us as well.”
Well, fuck. Not exactly how he expected this day to go at all.
