A few things about Gustav and Carina:
The will of Gustav's grandfather was not overturned. The will said that if an heir was married, he had to be married to a woman who was of noble birth, protestant and German(ic) (it didn't actually say the word aryan). The court ruled that since Gustav was not married, this marriage clause did not apply to him.
Gustav's father's cousin had argued that Gustav and Carina's relationship should exclude him as they had long been living together 'like a married couple'.
What the will said was actually pretty standard for a head of a noble family at the time. But while most people would have gone with the time and changed their wills at some point, Prince Gustav Albrecht died during the war and due to him installing a pre-heir the will had to be applied when it's views were long outdated. (In the 1940s and decades after, all European Royal and Noble families had rules that said heirs would have to marry women of noble birth, and this also implied white and Christian.)
The Princes title of the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburgs are actually not titles recognized in Germany. All German noble families lost their titles in 1918, but in a compromise they were allowed to keep 'the titles' as part of their last names. Gustav, Carina and little Gustav Albrecht literally have 'Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg' as their last name, but it's not a real title. As far as I know, Benedikte's children officially have the real HH Prince/ss styles/titles in Denmark, but I don't know if that would be hereditary. I don't think Queen Margrethe II took these away from Gustav, Alexandra and Nathalie, but also they would still be called Prince/ss by everyone in Denmark anyways, because of their German surname/title.
None of Princess Benedikte's descendants are in line of sucession to the Danish throne.
Thanks anon

HRH Princess Benedikte's 80th birthday On Monday, April 29, 2024, HRH Princess Benedikte will celebrate her 80th birthday. The milestone will be marked with a series of official events, while the birthday itself will be celebrated privately with family and friends.
Tumblr media
Princess Benedikte was born during World War II during the reign of her grandfather, Christian X. The Princess is the second child of Crown Prince Frederik (IX) and Crown Princess Ingrid, and Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg was the setting for her upbringing. In 1946, her younger sister Princess Anne-Marie was born, and the following year her parents became the Danish King and Queen. Like her two sisters, the Princess completed her schooling at Zahle School in Copenhagen. Subsequently, Princess Benedikte studied first at Benenden School in Kent, England, and then Brillantmont Ecole in Lausanne, Switzerland. Later, Princess Benedikte completed her education with a course in dressmaking and design at the Margrethe School in 1965. At the age of 22, Princess Benedikte became engaged in March 1967 to Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. The wedding took place the following year in Fredensborg Palace Church. After the wedding, the couple settled in the northwestern German town of Bad Berleburg at Prince Richard's birthplace, Schloss Berleburg. Here, Princess Benedikte and Prince Richard became parents to His Highness Prince Gustav in 1969, Her Highness Princess Alexandra in 1970 and Her Highness Princess Nathalie five years later. After 49 years of marriage, Prince Richard passed away in 2017.
The birthday will officially be marked with the following events: April 19: Birthday dinner at Sølyst The Friends of Dressage and a number of Princess Benedikte's equestrian patronages have joined forces to mark Her Royal Highness's 80th birthday with a dinner at Sølyst. Throughout much of her life, Princess Benedikte has been interested in equestrian sports and horses, and since 1992 the Princess has been patron of the Danish Equestrian Federation. In addition, the Princess is patron of Danish Warmblood, Hestens Værn and the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. April 24th: Official opening of the exhibition "Princess Dresses" at Koldinghus As honorary patron of the Royal Collection at Koldinghus, Princess Benedikte will open the exhibition "Princess Dresses" on the occasion of her 80th birthday. On display is a selection of the Princess's gala dresses, which have been created by Jørgen Bender over the years. More than 20 dresses are on display, ranging from birthday dresses, a silver wedding dress, a selection of party dresses to a maternity dress and the Princess's bridal gown. In addition to giving an insight into Jørgen Bender's detailed craftsmanship, the exhibition also provides a view of four decades of fashion history, as the selection was created between 1968 and 1999. May 2: The Princess hosts a reception for her patrons at Rosenborg Palace In the Great Hall at Rosenborg Palace, Princess Benedikte will host a reception for the Princess's patrons and others. Princess Benedikte is patron of a number of Danish and foreign organizations that work within humanitarian or artistic purposes or sports.

I was reading about the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau Tiara and I'm confused. Princess Theodora, Queen Margaretha and others from different royal families have worn it. So who owns it? Theodora is a Princess of Greece and Denmark. Does that mean she has access to Danish jewels? Thanks in advance. (p.s. I'm really sorry if this question was sent twice. I don't know what happened the first time.)
No worries, I only got the question once. Tumblr is weird sometimes.
The Turquoise Daisy Bandeau is owned by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark who happens to be Princess Theodora of Greece’s aunt. Queen Anne Marie of Greece and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark are sisters along with Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Since it's a privately owned piece, not something that's owned by the state like crown jewels, she can loan it to whoever she wants. She could even loan it to me if she wanted...and now I'm day dreaming about Daisy calling me up to offer to let me wear one of her tiaras.
Tumblr media
The weird thing is that the ‘of Denmark’ part of the Greek royal family‘s titles does not come through Anne Marie instead it's because they are male line descendants of King Christian IX of Denmark. Currently the Danish royal family does not have a limit on how many generations out someone can be and still be a prince or princess. I think it’s something they’re going to have to deal with soon because now that they no longer withhold approval for non-dynastic marriages there’s going to be a bunch of princes and princesses running around. It's generally assumed that the reason they haven’t limited it yet is because Queen Margrethe doesn’t want to take away the only legal titles her sister and her sister's family have but this is getting a bit off topic for a tiara blog.
Queen Margrethe has also loaned tiaras to her nieces, Princess Alexandra and Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Her mother, Queen Ingrid, was really the best at sharing tiaras. It didn't matter if you were a niece, distant cousin, or in-law if you needed a tiara for an event Ingrid was probably going to loan it you. You don't see that kind of thing happen often anymore so I always like that Daisy still does it a bit.
