Privoz-rynek, który istnieje od początku założenia miasta Odessa, nasączone różnymi ludźmi. Po urodzeniu dostajesz miasto, powiat. To twoja przestrzeń, to część ciebie. Oto i Privozi też staje się notorycznie twoim z dzieciństwa. Ci pokazują, jak korzystać z przesiewanie wagą, gdzie dźwig, żeby natychmiast umyć zakurzone owoce, że trzeba odpowiadać, jeśli cię oszukali. Potem stamtąd wywieziony do domku, przechodząc przez szeregi z rybą. Wydaje się, jeśli polizać powietrze, to on będzie taki sam słony, jak i ryby. W samodzielnym wieku znajdujesz go jeszcze bardziej kuszące. On zamienia się w atrakcja. Wszystko tu można zobaczyć i usłyszeć. I znaleźć to, czego nigdzie nie ma. Jest to idealne miejsce, jeśli chcesz być zauważonym. Można wypowiedzieć się na temat i bez. Ubrać się prawidłowo, czy nie. Obmacać jędrność kurczaka, i zginać, jeśli nie jest daleki od ideału. Obowiązkowy program-zwiedzanie mlecznej serii. Wziąć palce szczyptą i próbować, a w drugiej ręce trzymać torbę ona bezwładnie zwisa, pokazując swoją pełnię. Tak i warto kupujący, choć mało prawdopodobne, aby potencjalny, w czarnej, zużyta, skórzanej kurtce do kolan. Raczej spękana, niż zużyta. I jest cała biała pajęczyna pęknięć. I jeszcze ubrana czapka "uszy" na zewnątrz. I lecą te twarogowe okruchy, jak płatki śniegu, luzem w czarnej kurtce na ziemię. Ale sprzedawcom nie szkoda. Każdemu oferują. I zawsze w pobliżu jakiejś jednej, z jakiegoś zasadzie wyselekcjonowanego, tłoczą się u niej i próbują kolorowe czapki z smutnymi, pustymi torebeczkami. Cały mleczny odzial  jest wypełniona szumem. Kłócą się, śmieją się, oferują. Pytają, zastanawiam się-dlaczego jest tak drogie, z pogardą patrzą i poruszają się dalej wzdłuż szeregu. Tak, to taka ceremonie. Bez tego w żaden sposób. Bez tego nie smakuje. Zakup musimy cierpieć, czuć się w pełni. To nie jest bezpłciowy opakowanie w sklepie. To wszystko, co żywe - płynie, sypie się. Trzeba spróbować, trzeba wiedzieć, gdzie ten upragniony twaróg. Specjalnie dla tego ludzie przyjechali i ubrali się.  To znaczy, że zakup musi być uzasadnione.

Odessa is a lot more spread out than I thought, and the beach is a long way from the city centre. Today we got a walking tour of some of the main sights with our tour leader. Lucky for us the weekly fresh markets at Privoz were on that day, so we got to have a quick stroll through them. I am always fascinated with markets that have little or no requirement for food safety - dead chickens, rabbits etc just lying on a table or in a tub , no ice, waiting to be sold, gotta love it - these guys must have iron guts!

Some of the sights we took in were the mother in law bridge . It was constructed in 1968 and acquired its name when the former head of Odessa, Mihail Sinitza, took this route to visit his mother-in-law, apparently he got sick of walking through the gully or around the ridges, so used city funds to construct a bridge for easier access. We took in the Duc de Richelieu monument and rubbed the money bag in the hope of some financial luck ( remember I said that the Ukrainians are superstitious about touching stuff...) we took in the grandeur of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral and the Odessa passage, a late 19th Century building that was groundbreaking at the time as it held a hotel as well as high end stores. We also stopped at the Potemkin stairs as they are one of the number one tourist attractions of Odessa. Great to look at from the top, and said to not only be an attempt to mirror the Spanish steps in Rome, but also created as the grand access from the sea, and Odessa is all about the sea!

Lucky for us we then got to go out to a restaurant on the beach for dinner- so yay I got to paddle my feet up to me knees in the Black sea! It was too cold for swimming even after a couple of vodka shots... did I mention how big Vodka shots are in Ukraine?? “Bud’mo, hey!” - A drinking chant that shall forever be with me....

We are heading to Moldova tomorrow - can’t wait!
