What comics do you read weekly, or do you trade wait?

Well, single issues usually come out on a monthly rather than weekly basis...but to answer your question, I have a digital pull list of comics I subscribe to, because I don't have the space for physical copies of either trades or floppies.

Due to the way that Amazon has screwed up Comixology, my pull list is a bit of an odd mix of past, present, and future books (because of Marvel's shift to five-issue minis over ongoings, there's a lot of finished books on the list that haven't been formally cancelled by Amazon, and sometimes subscriptions break).

My current pull list includes:

Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain.

Dark X-Men.

Immortal Thor.

Immortal X-Men.

Jean Grey.

New Mutants.

Once & Future.

Realm of X.

Rogue & Gambit.

Sabertooth and the Exiles.

The Great British Bump-Off.

Waller vs. Wildstorm.

X Deaths/Lives of Wolverine.

X-Men.

X-Men: Before the Fall.

X-Men Red.

Uncanny Avengers.

And when Marvel finally gets its act together and lets me pre-order G.O.D.S, and Ms. Marvel: the New Mutant, I'll add those.

Also, I have Marvel Unlimited to catch anything that gets good reviews but that I don't want to do a specific pull for.

August 2022 comics stack.

Another post in which I should just be writing a blog at this point.

Bigger pull this month than previous months. There's a handful of promising new first issues and starting points out this month with Heart Eyes, 20th Century Men, Predator, Ultraman: The Mystery of UltraSeven, and Detective Comics 1062 + 1063.

There's also some special annual issues from Love & Rockets and the always great Demon series by Peach Momoko from Marvel.

Coming to an end this month was the conclusion of The Closet (I thought this was a fine short series but I don't think I'd recommend it) and Swamp Thing (which I need to catch up on and finish reading).

Favorite Cover: Heart Eyes by Dennis Hopeless + Victor Ibanez on art. Ibanez did the art for the cover and interiors, which just really caught my eye. The first issue is solid - hoping the rest of the series is worth it.

Favorite Page: Demon Days: The Iron Samurai by Peach Momoko. This could have easily also been my favorite overall pick fit the month. Peach Momoko's cartooning is so refreshing to see on the stands, I love everything about it. I savor each issue since they only ever come out once for about every 3 months.

Favorite Overall: Do A Powerbomb by Daniel Warren Johnson. The story is about the daughter of a famous wrestler entering an otherworldy tournament to win a chance to use necromancy to bring her mom back to life. So far this book is another great entry in DWJ's bibliography. When it comes to wrestling I'd say I'm a casual enjoyer but I cat recommend this book enough.

reading any good comics these days? keepin up with any runs?

So these days, I’m buying pretty much the whole X-line and that’s about it - I’m enjoying myself broadly, although I think Al Ewing and Kieron Gillen are pulling ahead of the pack somewhat, although it’s hard to outperform Tini Howard, Vita Ayala, and Ben Percy for any length of time, while I’m not enjoying Si Spurrier and Steve Orlando’s work as much although I think that’s more a character/style clash than any comment on their skill as writers.

I probably should to do an evaluation of my pull list soon - it’s been a while since I followed anything indie from Image or Boom or the like, and I’m probably missing some good stuff out there (any recommendations, mutuals?); likewise, since I have a Marvel Unlimited subscription I might want to drop some of the books I’m not enjoying as much and just use MU to keep up with how they’re shaping the broader X-plot.

Birds of Prey - The last issue artist change really threw off the momentum of this issue. My goodness was that art not up to snuff. Still intrigued on what's coming next.

Fantastic Four - I'm not gonna bother I am woefully behind. Gomez is on art and I usually like his stuff.

Fire & Ice - I am not a big JLI fan so I'm not surprised this series didn't hit for me. And to that one fan who absolutely hated this series from the jump: sucks to be you!

MMPR: The Return - Excited for this. Really keen on what AJJ has to say here.

Poison Ivy - Retelling and reexamining Ivy's origin is tricky, but we are nineteen issues into what was originally a six issue miniseries - it was bound to happen.

Shazam! - Ha! Space dinosaurs! Waid why are you leaving this title? Oh the things to come.

Feeling kinda weird, so I pumped this out quickly enough.

Please, if you can, take a moment to read and share this because I feel like I'm screaming underwater.

NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) stigma is rampant right now, and seems to be getting progressively worse. Everyone is using it as a buzzword in the worst ways possible, spreading misinformation and hatred against a real disorder.

I could go on a long time about how this happened, why it's factually incorrect (and what the disorder actually IS), why it's harmful, and the changes I'd like to see. But to keep this concise, I'll simply link to a few posts under the cut for further reading.

The point of this post is a plea. Please help stop the spread of stigma. Even in mental health communities, even around others with personality disorders, in neurodivergent "safe" spaces, other communities I thought people would be supportive in (e.g. trans support groups, progressive spaces in general), it keeps coming up. So I'm willing to bet that a lot of people on this site need to see this.

Because it's so hard to exist in this world.

My disorder already makes me feel as if I'm worthless and unlovable, like there's something inherently wrong and damaged about me. And it's so much harder to fight that and heal when my daily life consists of:

Laughing and spending time with my friends, doing my utmost best to connect and stay present and focused on them, trying to let my guards down and be real and believe I'm lovable- when suddenly they throw out the word "narcissist" to describe horrible people or someone they hate, or the conversation turns to how evil "people with narcissistic personality disorder" are. (Seriously, you don't know which of your friends might have NPD and feels like shit when you say those things & now knows that you'd hate them if you knew.)

Trying to look up "mental health positivity for people with npd", "mental health positivity cluster bs", only to find a) none of that, and b) more of the same old vile shit that makes me feel terrible about myself.

Having a hard time (which is constant at this point) and trying to look up resources for myself, only to again, find the same stigma. And no resources.

Not having any clue how to help myself, because even the mental health field is spitting so much vitriol at people with DISORDERS (who they're supposed to be helping!) that there's no solid research or therapy programs for people like me.

Losing close friends when they find out, despite us having had a good relationship before, and them KNOWING me and knowing that I'm not like the trending image of pwNPD. Because now they only see me through the lens of stigma and misinformation.

Hearing the same stigma come up literally wherever I go. Clubs. Meetings. Any online space. At the bus stop. At the mall. At a restaurant. At work. Buzzword of the year that everyone loooves loudly throwing around with their friends or over the phone. Feels awesome for me, makes my day so much better/s

I could go on for a long time, but I'm scared no one will read/rb this if it gets too much longer.

So please. Stop using the word "narcissist" as a synonym for "abusive".

Stop bringing up people you hate who you believe to have NPD because of a stigmatizing article full of misinformation whenever someone with actual NPD opens their mouth. (Imagine if people did that with any other disorder! "Hey, I'm autistic." "Oh... my old roommate screamed at me whenever I made noise around him, and didn't understand my needs, which seems like sensory overload and difficulty with social cues. He was definitely autistic. But as long as you're self-aware and always restraining your innate desire to be an abusive asshole, you're okay I guess, maybe." ...See how offensive and ignorant that is?)

Stop preventing healthcare for people with a disorder just because it's trendy to use us as a scapegoat.

Stigma in the DSM

Common perception of the DSM criteria vs how someone may actually experience them (Keep in mind that this is the way I personally experience these symptoms, and that presentation can vary a lot between individuals)

Death of Superman 30th anniversary?!? 😲 I can't believe it has been that long ago!? 😮🤯 time truly does fly, I was a kid when all this originally went down, I remember going and getting my "Black Bag" issue and the excitement surrounding it. 😃 So here is both my regular Superman #75 and my Black Bag version that I bought 30 years ago next to the 30th anniversary special that came out this week 😄
