While ramen, chicken hoisin, and pho are three different dishes, here's a recipe for a fusion dish that combines elements of all three:

Ingredients:

4 cups chicken broth

2 cups water

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon grated ginger

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 boneless, skinless chicken breast, sliced

1 package (12 oz) ramen noodles

Bean sprouts, sliced scallions, cilantro, lime wedges, and sriracha sauce for serving

Instructions:

In a large pot, combine the chicken broth, water, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, grated ginger, and minced garlic.

Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce the heat to a simmer.

Add the sliced chicken breast and cook until the chicken is no longer pink, about 10 minutes.

Remove the chicken from the pot and shred it with two forks.

Meanwhile, cook the ramen noodles according to the package instructions.

Divide the cooked noodles among four bowls.

Pour the hot broth over the noodles.

-pokes your cheek to make sure you’re still alive if you start dozing off because it makes him nervous

wow two posts in a day.. this is what happens when you pick up no shifts at your job

Notices you aren't in class and shoots a quick text asking where you are, when you respond that you're sick, he's on a scavenger mode for you w/ class homework and notes.

Any class you both have he's got those notes for you and any class you DONT have, he's finding someone to give him notes.

"You don't have this class, Kyle?" "Yeah it's for (Y/N), they're sick Wendy."

Making sure you don't fall behind, it's been just one day but he can't let the idea of you trying to catch up in classes be a thing.

NOW...say what you want...but Kyle can cook..idc..he's got that soup maker in him locked down. (malewife Kyle...)

ANYHOW, he's making butternut squash soup (if you're allergic he's making the good ole standard chicken noodle, he probably's making multiple soups tbh) for you and he's making side dishes. He's literally going all out.

Def learned cooking tips and tricks from his mom

Side dishes are just crackers or almonds LMAO, he's good at cooking but when you're sick your energy tends to be lower so he doesn't want to overwhelm you with too much food, just stuff to power you through <3

Eating and drinking is important when sick and he wants you feeling better asap.

Aside from the food, he's got himself that he's bringing. Like he'll come over with his school work, your school work, whatever else, because he's gonna spend the night with you.

Don't try complaining about him getting sick, he's made up his mind that he's helping you out, won't care if he gets sick at all.

"Kyle..you'll get sick too if you stay with me, go home, I'll be fine." "Nope, I don't care if I get sick, taking care of you is what I have got to do."

Goes over the class work and notes for you if you're feeling up to it, if not, he'll wait until you are, or writes out how to work on the problems so you can learn on your own time if he isn't actually there to help.

Now.. cuddling with you is a weird thing. He'll definitely cuddle, but he's got such a physical germ issue and if you're sneezing a whole bunch, runny nose, anything.. snot related sick, he's helping you while keeping a little distance.

If you're on the drier side of sickness like a dry cough, stuffy nose, fever, things like that, he'll be fine keeping you close distance/cuddling/etc.

No kisses from Kyle though when you're sick :( (boooooo)

Makes up for it with letting you have comfy clothes of his.

Also does chores for you around the house. If you have laundry you needed to do, dishes, house cleaning, etc. he's handling it, you just sleep and rest.

He does manage to get sick though :(, now it's your turn!!

Didn't know you were sick at first because Kenny was skipping class. Found out because he received a text from Stan like "yo are you and (y/n) both sick?"

Cue him skipping school to take care of you instead, he's got a mission to do and that's operation make (y/n) feel better.

Since he was skipping class he has no idea what happened in your classes or his own, so hopefully you don't have a lot of new material to work on when you both come back.

Kenny can most definitely cook too, he just acts like he can't. (canon bc of that home ec episode, he was definitely good at home ec that teacher was just a hater) but he isn't bringing you food, but he's cooking in your kitchen instead.

Makes you chicken noodle soup because it's easy and he's a lil basic. Gives you the dark blue gatorade to go with it though because that gatorade is the best one.

Also is another one that doesn't care if he gets sick (doesn't care because he can just.. die and then wake up the next day not sick)

He's kissing you because he's never been one to be afraid of germs or sickness. Doesn't want to hear complaints.

"Kenny I am SICK, you can't kiss me." "Oh word? I can't? Still going too though." and he swoops in for a kiss.

Tries taking your mind off being sick by distracting you. It sucks to be sick and just laying there so he wants to make sure you have at least some fun.

Like I imagine he's turned on those random youtube karaoke vids to try and sing along to them with your back turned but he's either singing the wrong song or the video has a minute left and he just started singing the song.

"ITS ALL ABOUT YOU GIRL ON A 16TH BIRTHDAY" "The song is earfquake by tyler what are you doing??" "What."

Would also do a few house chores like your dishes, but isn't going to go into a whole bunch of effort. He'd rather spend his time directly with you.

Lets you snuggle into his bright ass orange parka and he's holding you against his chest as you snooze. Places kisses at the top of your head as you sleep, also rubs circles into your waist/hips as you sleep. He's so content with you in his arms.

Decides to do a movie marathon with you since being sick is simply the best time to do a movie marathon.

I could imagine you guys watching the barbie movies tbh.

Cue Kenny dancing the same as those dancing dogs from barbie and the diamond castle

Let's you pick the movie though, Kenny is just there for the ride and to be with you while you're sick.

Got covid, so here is a collection of sick!141 headcanons:

• When someone gets sick, Gaz will bully the hell out of them. Last time he told Ghost he had the worst case of sniffles known to man (god knows how he didn't get disintegrated at the spot). But, he's also the one to make ginger tea, bring some snacks, flirt some lemsip out of that pretty nurse for his sick teammates. His actions really balance out the jokes.

• When he gets sick himself, he usually gets all of that back, everyone makes sure he's got everything he needs, and he ends up with way too much snacks, tea, and medicine. He's usually quick to get better, yet it warms his heart to know they care about him just as much as he does about them.

• Soap gets dramatic when he's feeling off. Not on missions, he knows how and when to push through, but God forbid he's going though a cold back on base, he'll let everyone know how fucking miserable he is. If he has an option to take a day or two off, he will do it, screw everything until he's back on his feet. Also, Ghost would usually ignore the rambles but then check up on him every now and again, just to make sure he's actually OK, and there's nothing major going on.

• Ghost usually gets more gruff and moody when he's sick. He also tries to avoid everyone, and he just sleeps it off if he can. Having a runny nose when you wear a mask all the time is not fun, it gets wet and awful. He doesn't like to miss the gym, too, but he usually goes easy if he's not well. The only thing Soap really scolds him for is that he keeps smoking anyway.

• Sick Price is a nightmare for the rest of 141. Not only the man is a fucking workaholic, he's also stubborn as hell. He'd be sitting in his office working his ass off even if his head is stuffed, and he's really not in shape to deal with all that paperwork. It requires a joint effort from all of them to get him to drop it and rest some, and him getting more irritable doesn't help it. That attitude also makes it worse for him, so he's usually sick for longer because he doesn't really allow himself time to recover and jumps straight back the second he feels just a smidge better.

• Soap usually has these awful high fevers for the first couple of nights, he's shivering and all that. Ghost brings him extra blankets and stays with him sometimes, especially when it's really bad. He's seen Johhny being really out of it because of how high his fever was, the guy couldn't even figure out how to use his phone, had forgotten about the meds and was a complete mess. So, Ghost tracks that for him, and makes sure he's OK, and that his fever doesn't fry his brains ("god knows you haven't got a lot left in that noggin, Johnny, you need every braincell").

• Price has a secret family recipe for chicken noodle soup that he refuses to give away, but when one of his guys is really not OK, he usually makes some. Even Ghost can't resist it. He's reluctant to let anyone in, but the smell really hits home, so he opens the door. The small "thank you" he blurts out really tells Price a lot.

"You're welcome, Simon. And you're off for tomorrow, get some rest, OK?"

Also, the only other person that he just can't not let in is Soap. Gaz would just drop off a tray full of things at his doorway, shout him a quick "get well soon, Lt" and be out of his hair, but Soap is a whole another story. Soap is relentless. One time he stayed at his door for hours, so now Ghost knows better than to resist him, it's a fight he cannot win. God knows he tried. Having him is honestly good, too. He somehow makes it easier just by being there, he reminds Ghost to drink his water, makes him comfortable in a way Ghost would never care to, not when it comes to himself.

Y/N woke up and let out a long groan. Her head was pounding and blurred visions from the night before slowly entered her brain. Then suddenly she realized she was parched. Water. She needed water. She crawled out of bed and stumbled into the kitchen. Her water bottle was about halfway full when her roommate, Carol, entered the room, back from a morning run.

“Well you look like shit,” she said.

“Feel like shit,” Y/N added.

“What exactly did you get up to last night?” Carol stretched in the living room as Y/N chugged down her water.

“Went out with some asshole. It was a mistake.”

“Oh come on, he couldn’t have been that bad. He got you home.”

“He got me drunk, I made a fool of myself, and then he rejected me.”

“Oh you left out the part about maybe having a concussion.”

“Ugh…don’t remind me about that.” She drank more water and then the realization hit her “Wait, how…?”

Carol smirked, “The ‘asshole’ left this under my door,” she held up a small handwritten note, “Wanted me to keep an eye on you and make sure you were okay.”

Y/N had no response to that. She enjoyed her disdain for Bucky. She didn’t need to go around catching feelings just because he did something sweet. Y/N grumbled and retreated to her room as Carol watched her with a knowing look.

Bucky woke up the next morning and his first thought was about Y/N. He hated to admit it, but he was worried about her. And he knew he had his work cut out for him since he had bruised her ego the night before.

So he put himself together and headed to her apartment. He stopped to pick up a couple coffees, hoping to bribe her into liking him again.

He softly knocked in rhythm on her door and heard shuffling from the other side. He could almost sense her looking through the peephole eyeing him up.

“Go away,” she said firmly.

“I brought coffee,” he retorted.

“Oh, well in that case, leave the coffee and go away.”

“Come on Y/N…”

“I made myself perfectly clear. Leave.”

“I just want to make sure you’re okay.”

“Why do you care?”

He sighed and let out a chuckle, “Because I like you!”

There was a long pause before she said, “Well, I don’t like you.”

“That’s the best you could come up with? Damn, you must be really hung over.”

“I’m walking away from the door now,” she said.

He chuckled at her stubbornness, but respected her commitment. He scrawled a quick note on the coffee cup that read Call me once you’re feeling better with his phone number.

He sauntered off, knowing it wouldn’t be that easy. He started considering his next few moves.

He wasn’t surprised that he hadn’t heard from her in a few days. In fact, he anticipated that. So he moved on to phase two.

He approached her front door and knocked, this time hiding from view of the peephole. He heard the lock switching and knew he was in. As soon as the door was open he barged in, taking Y/N by surprise.

Before she could say anything he started unloading the stocked grocery bag. 

“I have everything you could possibly need. Gatorade, ginger ale, homemade chicken noodle soup, saltines, lemon ginger tea…” He pulled out each of the items as they were announced and placed them on her kitchen counter.

“Bucky…what the fuck?”

He looked at her with raised eyebrows encouraging her to continue.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Well you never called me. So you must still be very sick and I thought ‘Hm, if I were really sick, I’d want someone to come over and take care of me.’ So here I am with all the best remedies.”

She was so close to smiling but she kept her composure and responded. “I’m not sick you asshole. I just didn’t want to talk to you.”

“Now that cannot possibly be true. We had such a lovely time together on our date.”

“It wasn’t a date.”

“Whatever you say sweetheart. Just remember I was the perfect gentleman. I picked you up, I walked you home, and I didn’t take advantage of you in your vulnerable state.” He hoped the last part of his statement would help her understand why he declined her advances that night.

“What a shame, I don’t remember any of it.”

“I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it then. Oh, did I mention that you agreed to go out with me again?”

“Liar,” she joked.

“I do,” she opened the front door wide and signaled for him to make his way through it.

“I have to say Y/N, you are really good at this whole hard to get thing.” He made his way through the door and turned to face her, shooting her his winning smile.

“Bye,” she said as she shut the door in his face.

“I’ll see you later!” he shouted through the door.

Bucky continued to pursue Y/N for the days that followed. He tried out a few different tactics but most of them involved buying her coffee or walking her to class. Her defenses came down a bit, but she still declined any date suggestions Bucky threw out there.

“What’s your endgame here?” she asked him at one point.

“What do you mean?”

“Why are you doing all this?”

“Because I have never met a girl as interesting as you. And I want to spend time with you and get to know you better.”

She rolled her eyes, “I bet you tell all the girls that.”

“Not a chance.”

“Hate to break it to you but sweet talk doesn’t work on me.”

That was the moment he realized he needed to step things up so he began planning. His friends were constantly telling him to give up, that the dare wasn’t worth all this effort. omg hii girlie how's your day today?

My day wasn't too terrible, I am working on trying the jellies in posted so I can get a more descriptive flavor profile for some one, so I ate 2 with hours apart and all it said on my tracker was 6 cals and I was so vibin. I packaged up some of our sweet potato purée and had like a tablespoon of it and it was rly good, tracked it and it only said 15 cals and I was like feeling rly good, then it kinda went downhill? I was packaging up some chicken noodle soup and lowkey binged, so I purged (my reminder to DONT) and it was a rly rough one, like I haven't had a rough one like this in a couple years. I cleaned and organized our freezers (there's multiple bc one broke and some spare space in the chest freezer and it's just a mess [also our landlord is coming over to check out carbon monoxide sensors since our neighbors' went off and our house is not messy so I was cleaning there too]) so after I was exhausted and my sister comes home from work being pissy at me which made me feel kinda shitty esp since I was tired, I made dinner (miso soup with tofu, chicken stir fry, rice, asparagus, dragon fruit [if y'all want recipes for this lemme know ♡) whilst making dinner I was like on the verge of a panic attack and was super shaky (nearly cut off me fingie a few times) then as it got closer it went into a nice big one (⁠눈⁠‸⁠눈⁠) from there it's not bad, I made some lunches for my sister and finished the project from earlier via the refrigeration, now i am laying down with a nice cool cup of water and a warm heat pack

That was a lot sry, also ur SOOOOO sweet for asking! Atm I'm taking a short break from schooling bc I'm doing a med change that totally sucks and I was dropped off the old one cold turkey so I have headaches often

Ok this might be long but I'll try!

Mortal kombat characters and their food preferences.

Liu kang:

He likes bold flavors, spices and savory dishes are his go to. He likes dry heat but not so much he can't taste anything. He also likes sweet fruits like peaches and mangoes. He likes mango flavored shaved ice

Kung lao:

He mostly eats vegetables, fresh and delicious with noodles is his go to. But he does rarely eat chicken (don't tell his white lotus masters) and on very special holidays he eats pork (again, don't tell his white lotus masters.) He adores soup dumplings and thats his favorite.

Sonya:

It might be typical, but she loves a nice juicy classic all American burger, fresh off the grill. Other than that she drinks a lot of coffee and prefers light and quick easy meals to get her through the day.

Jax:

The man is simple, he loves a good barbecue pulled pork. Anything high in protein that's also delicious. He also loves strawberry ice cream.

Kano:

Barbeque, beer, and mochi. Surprising to some, kano has a varied palette. While he can eat anything (had to at some points) he also knows whats delicious and whats mediocre at best.

Johnny cage:

The most well coordinated diet you expect from a well active celebrity. But Johnny prefers homemade and authentic food, which often he goes to any obscure family owned ethnic restaurant. His favorite is one noodle dish from a restuarant owned by a very old Chinese man who taught him how to make it, after Johnny practically begged on his knees to know.

Sub-zero/kuai liang:

Kuai is simple, rice and vegetables with beef. But his absolute favorite is ice cream, his eyes light up whenever he sees the delicious frozen treats.

Sub-zero/bi-han:

Bi-han has similar tastes to kuai. But prefers his meats to be burnt to a charcoal. Loves chocolate ice cream.

Scorpion/hanzo hasashi:

Hearty, warm, homemade dishes. Lots of fish, lots of rice. He likes spicy but prefers to be in the mood to fully enjoy it. Likes citrusy desserts.

Raiden:

He loves spice an abnormal amount. Giving him spicy chicken is the quickest way to earn his favor. He also loves milk too. Even his brother is unnerved by how much spicy food raiden can eat and not suffer tremendously, he's just built different. He likes lightly sweet desserts like marshmallows or cotton candy. Or dango.

Kitana:

Edenian dishes are as colorful as delicious and varied. Herbs and spices are used generously and most are vegetarian. Kitana's favorite is an edenian dish with an outworld goat meat marinated in a special edenian orange. Peaches do not exist in outworld but kitana loved the white peach liu kang once offered her. She longs for it's taste again.

Shang tsung:

He loves vegetables, fresh and well prepared. Noodles and broth must also be to his liking. There is one dish that will make him feel so content and at peace, it's a simple peasant dish from a long time ago in china. Shang tsung also loves fruits that are especially juicy and sweet, or tangy. Loves lychee and mango the most.

Bonus reptile/syzoth:

Saurian's diet consists of fish and special leafy greens no longer found in outworld as the plantlife went extinct (thanks shao kahn). But a similar dish is catfish and collared greens.

Slow Cooker Cream-of-Mushroom Chicken with Rosemary

As part of my journey toward smarter food budgeting and more frequent home-cooked meals, I've implemented a weekly meal prep schedule. Every Sunday, I make large portions of protein and vegetables that can be mixed and matched for additional meals throughout the week.

This week's Sunday meal prep - Cream-of-Mushroom Chicken with Rosemary.

Ingredients:

5-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts (my go-to protein)

1 can cream of mushroom soup, 8oz. (I used the low-fat version)

Lemon juice

Seasonings: Rosemary, roasted garlic, onion powder, cracked black pepper, lemon pepper, parsley, dill

Optional: A pinch or two of salt, white cooking wine

Trim the chicken if needed and slice into bite-sized pieces. Coat the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick spray and load in the chicken. Add 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and about 2 tsp lemon juice. Stir together.

Add the seasonings, using the list above or your own preferences. Measure with your heart or to taste, but always use twice as much garlic as anything else and go light on the salt and cracked pepper. I used about 2 tbsp roasted garlic, 1 tbsp onion powder / lemon pepper / parsley, and 1/2 tbsp dill / cracked black pepper. I also picked a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and minced them for the pot. Dried rosemary works fine if you don't have any pet herbs in your house.

Stir everything together and add the wine or salt if you wish. Put the lid on your slow cooker, put it on LOW, and let it cook for about 90min. Check the chicken, give it a stir, and cut a large piece in half to see if it's done. If it's tender and done through and the juices run clear, turn off the pot. Be careful not to overcook the chicken or it will get tough. Serve right away with your favorite starch and seasonable vegetables.

This makes about 6 servings, or dinner for two with plenty of leftovers. I packed our leftover chicken (and the delicious self-made gravy) with some egg noodles and separate pods of roasted brussels sprouts. It goes equally well with rice or potatoes, if that's your preference.

Altogether, the whole dish took about 15min of prep time and about 90min to cook. Very easy and very quick, and it didn't take a lot of spoons...or dishes.

Dating a mafia boss.

Never something you expected to be easy, but also never something you expected to be so difficult.

Gone, for days at a time. Sometimes even weeks. Not a single word would be peeped from Luca during those times, leaving you sick to your stomach with worry. Every room felt empty without his bright smile, his laugh. You felt so cold without his hugs, without his hands to hold.

It wasn't his fault the other mafias were rising up and getting ballsy: he had to put them back in their place. You knew that.

But knowing that didn't make it any easier, especially since this had been going on about 9 months now. Him gone, returning for a few days, and then leaving without a word again. The days he was back, you could tell he was stressed; it's why you never said anything.

You're only human, however.

A human that wants to feel loved, not sick with worry, not constantly on the urge of passing out from exhaustion, and most certainly not sick the way you were.

The stress from the worry had taken it's toll on you. You were, quite literally sick, constantly. With no others to rely on but yourself.

It was, in short, hell.

"(Name), I'm home-"

Speak of the devil. Right as you're in the bathroom vomiting, Luca comes home.

"One m.. one moment!"

You called, taking a moment to ensure nothing else was going to come up, before aggressively brushing your teeth and repeatedly using mouth-wash; it tasted like shit, but it would make the shit taste go away.

As you exited the bathroom, you were greeted by an exhausted Luca Kaneshiro sitting on the couch. He gave you that singular, tired smile, and you moved to sit besides him. "Are you hungry?" Despite your voice being raspy, and tired, Luca himself didn't seem to notice.

"Hmmm.. yeah." Luca nodded, tearing off his fur coat and letting it rest on the edge of the couch: you nodded slowly and turned to the kitchen to make food. You settled for chicken noodle soup and buttered bread: it was easy enough, and would be gentle enough on your stomach, and filling enough for him.

Luca brushed past you as he walked to the fridge: likely to get some cold water. You wanted to ask how his time was- but you'd given up asking long ago. Most times, he wouldn't answer, and when he did, Luca would go into such detail you felt sick to your stomach.

You were dating a killer. A man who had blood on his hands.

Maybe that's what he was doing to you. On purpose. He lured you in with his sunshiney smile, only to kill you slowly. He had your heart, and now, he acted as though your heart was something he could walk upon.

He wanted to kill your spirit.

"Hey.. do you mind if I hop in the shower?" "Go ahead. Dinner should be ready by the time you're out."

What an odd smell. Smells like sickness..

By the time Luca got out of the shower, you were putting dinner on the table. He took a very, very long shower.. And when he returned, Luca looked even more tired than he did before.

But that was fine.

Dinner was silent as it always was.

"Tastes good." Luca said after a long while. Your sick heart latched onto those words. "Glad you like it." Luca was quick to pick up on the raspiness in your voice. But it had yet to quite click, that was, until, you shoved your chair back and shot up.

"Excus.. excuseme."

Your voice rushed, Luca shot up with you and followed you. Barely making it to the bathroom before the vomit erupted from you. Luca was panicking, but he had enough sense in him to snatch your hair and hold it back, crouching beside you.

Technically a good call, but emotionally a horrible one.

Hiccuping as your body lost all will to stay upright, you slumped against the bathroom counter. "Nonono- oh god. You're so sick!" Luca gasped, trying to cushion your collapse with his hand whilst also reaching for his phone, dialing the mafia's doctors- he ahd the best of the best, after all. Speaking frantically, he pulled you close. Your heart was quite literally being ripped to shreds. It burned. Tears streamed down your face, coughing, swallowing, trying not to vomit again. His touch was oh so welcomed, yet in this state, you had to get him away.

Hands weakly shoving at his chest, you shook your head. "St.. go. Go.. away.. Luca. Can't.." Can't get you sick, is what you intended to say, but the words were so hard to get out.

And thats when you blacked out.

Gentle violet eyes were the first thing you saw when you awoke. Luca immediately reached out to you. "(Name)! Oh god.. you're awake!" Mind foggy, all you could think was how nice it felt to finally feel his embrace again. "Yeah.. how long was I out?"

"Three days.. The doctors said-" Luca was going on a long rant about what the doctors told him, explaining everything. But you weren't entirely listening. All you could think of was the one question you'd been asking yourself for months.

"Do you.. love me? Do you even care.. anymore.."

Luca froze. Your words were enough to strike him in the heart. Oh.. Suddenly, all the times he'd left without warning, the times he'd be gone for weeks at a time and return covered in blood..

The coldness he showed you when he returned.

He'd put you through hell.

"O-of course i do!" Luca panicked, pulling you close, not minding that the many chords attached to you were yanked a bit in the process. "I.. I'll always love you."

"I couldnt imagine a world without you.."

He did this. He did this to you. If you'd done the same to him- he'd.. he'd be the same.

Showering you with words, change was quick to come. He'd do his best to warn you when he left, and left much of his work with his co-leader, the most trusted member of his mafia. Within reason, he warned you of everything.

And you both made sure.. every day, to remind eachother that your love is never-ending.

First, it was chicken pox at eleven. Despite having it as a kid, his mom wanted nothing to do with a scratching, whining boy, and his dad used work as an easy excuse. So, it fell to you, the next door neighbor who wasn’t much older than Steve, but had already gotten sick years ago and couldn't get sick again. 

Then, strep throat at twelve, which you didn’t catch from him, either. The flu at thirteen, and a nasty cold at fourteen, and so on and so forth. Always Steve in the sickbed and always you tending to him with an ease he was jealous of. 

For someone who walked around the world like a burden, to Steve’s surprise, he didn’t feel that way when you force fed him chicken noodle soup and laid damp cloths on his forehead. 

And also to his surprise, you never faltered. Never seemed scared or overwhelmed, even when you were too young to be playing nurse. 

One would think that after years of being taken care of, some of that caretaking would have rubbed off on Steve. 

It didn’t. And now, you’re the one in bed, with a scarily high fever, your skin gleaming with sweat and your limbs trembling. 

Give him a monster to kill, and he’s good to go. But this isn’t his territory. This isn’t his territory, and he’s trying very hard not to lose his shit, and he’s not doing that well. 

“Maybe we should go to the hospital,” he says. He’s going to wear a hole through the carpet after so long pacing over the same spot, but he can’t stop. “Make sure this isn’t something more serious than the flu.” 

“It’s the flu,” you say. “I just have to ride it out.”

“Ride it out? Really? That’s your medical opinion? Cuz, I gotta say, I doubt an actual doctor would agree with you on that one—”

“Steve,” you say, voice low and raspy. He pauses in his pacing, frowning. “You’re freaking out. You need to sit down.” 

Steve’s frown deepens as he sits on the edge of your bed and immediately pops back up. He’s all nervous energy and twitchy limbs. 

“You made it look so easy,” he says. “When we were kids, you handled it like it was nothing. You never looked scared. Never got pissed at me when I puked on your shoes.” 

“I wasn’t exactly thrilled about that,” you murmur, eyes half lidded, a tiny smile on your lips. You reach out a hand, and Steve takes it, letting you pull him back down onto the bed. 

Your skin is warm and clammy, but Steve just holds on tighter. Your eyes flutter shut. 

“Our whole lives, you’ve taken care of me," Steve says. "And you did a damn good job of it. But now, the one time you actually need my help, and I’m—” 

Your eyes are all the way open, now. Your brows furrow, and you push yourself half into a seated position against the pillows. 

“Stop,” you say. “Just because I didn’t always need you to… I don’t know, fight my battles, for me, doesn’t mean I didn’t need you.” You swallow thickly. “Doesn’t mean I don’t need you now.” 

Steve wilts, and he draws your hand against his chest, pressing it to his heart. He’s crossing a dozen invisible lines he’s set for himself over the years, but you’re not stopping him. 

“Besides,” you murmur, “I don’t love you for your bedside manner. Which gets a B- at best.” 

And it’s hardly the first time you’ve said those words, but in the last few years, love came less and less on either side. For Steve, because it meant more than it used to, and saying it like he would to a friend felt like some kind of betrayal. 

This is different. The hesitance in your tone and the quick aversion of your gaze. 

“You—” Steve starts.

“Don’t make me repeat it,” you say. “I know you heard me.” 

Steve inhales. Holds his breath for a long moment and gathers his courage. 

“I did,” he says. “And I love you too.”

You smile, and your eyes flutter shut, but not before you say, “I know.”  

A laugh slips out of Steve’s mouth, and he brings your hand to his lips, kissing your knuckles, your skin warm. And even though your eyes are shut, he smiles back.

Another day, another swim.

I took it easy today. A quick walk with Gus down the block then a swim. Stopped by the clubhouse in the afternoon and was invited to speak at an event. Got to chat with a few friends.

Tomorrow Gus has a dental cleaning and I completely forgot. His drop off time is usually when I get my swim in so I’m going to attempt to wake at 5 for a quick workout. 🤞 Swimming is a priority not a suggestion. As I have learned after not swimming for 6 weeks.

Hypomania is still present. I overbooked myself this weekend and needed to cut back. My mom noticed before I did.

I had chicken noodle soup without the chicken tonight. My friend got sick last week so I cooked up some homemade soup for him except I had some leftover ingredients. It seemed everything was good but the chicken. It still tasted delicious. Just needed a bit of salt.
